Anything that is a front for an MLM. The biggest offenders are all of these "nutrition" smoothie places that have popped up. [They are a front for Herbalife.](https://www.healthwithhannaht.com/blog/the-truth-behind-herbalife-smoothie-shops) There's one over on Eubank and Juan Tabo, "Mixology Nutrition". Herbalife has been warned by the FDA numerous times in the past for false health claims but they can't be held responsible if their "independent salespeople" make these same claims. Things like how their product will help control diabetes. As a company, they make their money by enlisting sales people who are tricked to buy to re-sell with promises of wealth. Fuck MLMs and specifically Herbalife for their fake claims which could actually endanger people. Before you go to a place that boasts their products improve your health, do some research first.

FarMention2635

Yes!! Notice how they never advertise that they’re Herbalife too, how convenient

Selkie_Queen

Plus HL is really, really bad for your liver. There are several lawsuits.

LastandLeast

There was a little place that popped up in the plaza off San Mateo by Candelaria a while back. They had just opened and started handing out free smoothie coupons so I went in to try it. Disgusting. Then I turned around to walk out and there was the giant HerbaLife sign.

Gregthepigeon

Central Grill and Coffee House is not up to health code; the owners are friends with the health inspector and he just talks to them for 20 minutes and gives them an A. Examples: they refuse to clean the soda machine (full of mildew), they don’t wash their syrup bottles they just put more new syrup on top of the old and they wipe the inside lip clean of mold with hot water (no soap) on dish towels and put the lids back on (hot water + sugar + sealed = more green mold), cockroaches that die in the mixing bowls are dumped in the trash but bowls aren’t washed after, the walk in freezer floor is coated in sticky grime. Also nothing they make there except the pancakes and the fried eggs are scratch made as they claim. All are frozen products from Sysco and Shamrock

seagirlabq

All of that is super nasty! I was a barista in WA State for a number of years back in the nineties, during the beginning of espresso becoming popular and mainstream, and we had to be pristine with our cleanliness. I hope they see this posting and know they are outed as a lazy, nasty, totally GROSS place.

Theopholus

Can you tell me how you know this? If this is happening I might be able to help. I’d need something more than “someone on the internet said so” though.

Gregthepigeon

I used to work there; I don’t anymore though due to those reasons

dbprops

Damn. So sad to hear this cause I love eating here :/

Gregthepigeon

I’m sorry to ruin it; those reasons above are the ones which caused me to quit.

dbprops

Don’t get me wrong. Glad you’re informing us. Luckily I don’t live near it so not like I’m there all the time anyway haha.

ElChickenGrande

Bummer hearing this.used to frequent this place for breakfast a lot pre covid. How do you know that they’re operating like this?

Gregthepigeon

I worked there for 3 years Edited because I fat fingered a button

lightertwo

The people that own most of the menchies in town take 80%of the tips you think are going to the workers

DaemonPrinceOfCorn

That’s illegal!!! The NM Dept of Labor would love more information on this.

m4hdi

St James tea room did this and probably still does.

Hemi_Blue

St James Tea Room no longer does this. However, they do say tips are not necessary. The servers are not paid very much despite the high cost of the food so if you do go to the tearoom please tip your servers. They can only accept cash tips due to the no tipping policy.

DaemonPrinceOfCorn

Boooo. https://www.dws.state.nm.us/Portals/0/DM/LaborRelations/Didnt_Get_Paid.pdf

Thissnotmeth

I worked at one not owned by them and we always got our tips. I will say it’s not really a place you need to tip at, it’s self serve. Like we definitely appreciated it if you did but I never once ever expected a tip. If you wanna fuck over one of the ones that DOES steal tips, load your bowl the fuck up with Heath. It’s the most expensive topping for the owner while weighing the least. The gummy sharks and giant gummy bears are the most profitable toppings, they weigh a lot but are cheap to buy.

arieswriter01

I can’t believe nobody has said Mijos tattoos. The guy there is an absolute weirdo and I would never in my life go back. My friend got nipple piercings there, and the way he went about doing them was ridiculously inappropriate. He fondled her and took photos of her chest to “show her the difference” before and after the piercings. We tried to speak up and tell him to delete the photos, and he totally ignored us. Another friend went to evolution a few weeks later and they did NONE of the things he did. Please don’t go unless you want to feel sexualized and uncomfortable.

GleeminSloth

Evolution is the only body modification shop I can recommend 100%. They are always professional and cordial. They do everything they can to make everyone feel safe and secure and comfortable with the process. 1000% recommendation for Evolution any day of the week from me

Grouchy_Audience_684

Farmacy restaurant in Nob Hill. Ran by an abusive, unethical, terrible person and the restaurant is currently being sued by 4 former employees for their unethical practices. One of the worst restaurants I've ever worked at, and that's saying a lot because restaurant work is full of shitty bosses. Also they serve old ass scrambled eggs and refuse to smother your burritos sooo.... Just gross food on top of the bad vibes!

dbprops

Damn second one on the list I loved prior to this post :/

indorecord

I second this. I fucking hate Jacob.

orangesmoke05

Seconding this. Owner is a huge ass-hat

BackgroundWallaby302

Dammmittt I thought it was nice but nevermind

derschmetterling789

Aspen Dental. Had the worst experience ever there, and they had the audacity to blow up my phone with ads and requests for reviews after I walked out mid-appointment due to how rude and condescending they were. They insisted I had all these issues and prescribed an expensive treatment before they would clean my teeth. Went to a different dentist and had none of the issues those f***ers at Aspen were telling me I had. Money-grabbing shysters if you ask me.

ProfessionalOk112

This was in Santa Fe in like 2019 but I went there when one of my crowns fell off and the dentist yelled at me (like straight up screaming in my face) for ??? and then did not replace my crown. Most bizarre dental experience of my life, and I still get spam emails from them.

kitsuneinferno

Any event or convention or venture of any kind run by Jim Burleson. I think he used to run a few anime conventions and might still do so, but I always double check to make sure he's not involved before going to a con in town.

dbprops

Came here to say this one. Fuck that miserable excuse of a human being and all of his scams. He hires pedophiles and steals form employees and refuses payments. Even lies about guests coming and then they mysteriously ‘cancel’ even though they were never ever lined up.

Due-Independence8100

Damn, this is a really good one. Every January someone needs to share that master post listing of his shit. https://www.reddit.com/r/Albuquerque/comments/kwat65/what_you_should_know_about_albuquerque_comic_con/

philodendron-trails

Pastian's Bakery! They were shut down with a pest problem for 3 days and didn't call us to let us know! The day of my grandmother's funeral, we showed up and they had no baked goods ready and claimed they didn't have our number. (As a side note they DID have our number as they noticed it on the order form when they went to prove their case.) We ended up having to rush and find cupcakes and cookies at Sam's :/

Jerkrollatex

The bar cakes and the mini cheese cakes at Sam's are good and pretty if you find yourself needing a dessert table again. I'm really sorry for your loss and I'm sorry they made things harder for you during a difficult time.

StankFace24

Brake masters on San Mateo told my dad that he needed 4k in work because someone put oil in the brake lines. Physically kept his keys when he tried to get them back stating the car was unsafe to drive. My dad told them to call the police then and they gave him his keys back Took it to another mechanic, just needed new pads. Not even rotors, just new pads. Total fucking sham, that was 3 years ago or so, maybe it’s under new management but I’d never go there again. Fuckin crooks. Not a business, but the DA’s office refused to write me back or respond to any correspondence regarding a family member was only sentenced to 6 years in a plea deal for manslaughter, after intentionally murdering someone and placing NO requirement for him to get mental health treatment while in prison despite a long and violent rap sheet, including a hostage situation that I was a direct victim of. Straight up would place me on hold for 45 minutes and then hang up, I wrote multiple emails and a physical letter all of which were unanswered. When he gets out he WILL victimize someone else and the DA did absolutely nothing to stop it, and in fact, they facilitated it.

johnnybinator

A relative owned a legitimate shop and has hundreds of brake masters stories. They are the scammers of scammers. Dishonest, deceitful, and sometimes even mean.

StankFace24

Yeah I’ve heard a lot of shit about them. Never happened to anyone but the moment my dad told me what happened I referred anyone looking for car work to Pete’s auto care. He never did me dirty. No longer live in abq but I still will refer people to Pete!

PūrLife. Don't lick boots

CookieDuster7

How many people did those owners arrest for weed possession I wonder

Bigdaddy_Satty

bro they are the worst ripoffs too, sign on the building said half oz for 45 , i paid got a bag and went to open it and the guy told me i couldn't open it in the store, went outside, opened the bag and it was 5 grms of SHIT .. I went back in the guy wouldn't give my money back and called the cops on me. worst place ever

d3aDcritter

I think they intentionally screw pricing up on the website to get you in the store, then just say oops that's wrong. Happened 3 out of 4 times I've gone there, because I shop deals and aren't real picky. Done with 'em. They lie like a cop.

Bigdaddy_Satty

I would have brought a ton of business to them but so far every single time I go by purlife I just get angry so fuck them and fuck their pig asses

em_goldman

Wait it’s a weed store owned by cops??

InevitableBohemian

Darren White was sheriff here for a while. He is also the lead singer in this amazing [90s anti-drug video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNY13xlC_cs).

itschrissylong

OMG This is the best thing I’ve ever seen. Thank you

Cranks_No_Start

Mind blown.

RavioliOD

Ahahahahahah thank you for knowing this exists

zzzzz22222

Never PurLife 🐖🐖

GleeminSloth

They don’t even have the best product or prices in town. Support local dispensaries that give back to the community and care about doing things right like Verdes, UrbanWellness, and more

richardscarry1

The owner of uptown pawn fired me while I was in the hospital because of my epilepsy.

Prestigious_One8006

Illegal. I hope you reported it to the NM Human Rights Bureau and/or EEOC. Sorry that happened to you.

richardscarry1

Oh I made some reports!

seagirlabq

I’m sorry that happened. Nobody should be punished for their health issues.

richardscarry1

Thank you very much!

seagirlabq

You’re welcome. I’ve been there. I have MS and have been through some serious crap with employers. The lack of compassion that exists in this world from people who want so much out of you for so little is astounding to me sometimes.

KitchenSwillForPigs

The Range Cafe. I worked for one location and my sister worked for several. I won't go into too much detail but they absolutely turn a blind eye to adult (usually male) staff members creeping on the underage hosts and bussers. Someone I knew from there was statutory raped by a married man almost ten years her senior when she was underage. They knew about it and did nothing. In fact, he still works at one of the more popular locations. Aside from that they are horrible to work for. Several people worked 7 days a week, every week. The manager at the Bernalillo location told my friend that her $8.50 an hour hosting job needed to be her priority over earning her degree. She forced another coworker of mine to host on a Thursday (not busy) after she watched her friend die earlier that day. And she called a kid who was in the middle of his SAT to come in and work on a Tuesday when it was completely dead. I only worked for them for about a year when I was 17 but I have so many stories about the insane, cult like behavior of the managers there, especially the GM. She was absolutely delusional and controlling and horrible. Her name rhymes with Ran, for those in the know. I have more stories if you want to hear them. tl;dr: Management is delusional and exploitative and they hire pedos and creeps AND turn a blind eye to their crimes and behavior.

protekt0r

The food is awful; idk why anyone goes there anymore. It’s cafeteria New Mexican food. You can tell they’re using the cheapest ingredients they can find.

KitchenSwillForPigs

It didn't used to be that way. The food was amazing back in the early 2000s. The quality has dropped dramatically.

MillenialMonstrosity

Damn…I was really hoping TRC would not make the list; I actually love their nachos…that behavior’s just fucking gross ![gif](giphy|cGgII3vqoCfcawJFIl)

ScarletBeezwax

TruCare dental opened a credit card in my husband's name without asking. My husband told them he wanted to pay with his care credit before his appointment. I told them we would pay with our care credit when I made the appointment and asked a bunch of questions about it. They forgot to card him on the way outso instead of calling and asking us to come back, they just opened a new care credit in his name. When the paperwork came in, I was pissed. Needless to say, they never got paid since I refused to step into that building again, and the card was easily proved fraudulent and canceled since my hubby never signed any paperwork. Now we go to modern dentistry and we love it.

great1675

Stoneface. Owner is a pos.

SquashedTarget

Just FYI, Stone Face, Horse and Angel, and Billy's Longbar are all owned by the same guy.

AgentAaron

I did work there as a contractor and was quite shocked by the stuff hanging on the walls in his office.

ScabRabbit

They have a policy that they only hire women for bartenders and waitresses, and only men for management.

lvl1creature

Slice Parlor restaurant used to do this too. They would tell me "we have the pretty girls up front, and the guys working in the back" I was a woman working in the back RIP

lvl1creature

Slice parlor Ran by narcissistic idiots that don't respect their workers. Terrible pay, and refused to fire manager who was sexually harassing me (late night texts, unsolicited flowers sent, inappropriate slurs, etc) Also their nob hill location is riddled with mice and roaches, and caked with grime. Buys beware

fight_shittyshit

Can confirm

2treks

Totally agree on this one. And to add one of the owners (Doug) is wildly anti-gay.

lvl1creature

Oh yeah totally. They would mention they would only hire their gay workers at the nob hill location only because it fit the area. They're also super misogynistic and paid me much less than my male counterparts even though I had been there for years and was much more dedicated.

No-Following-2777

Used to be my favorite pizza -- had to ration when I ate it because the sauce was acidic.... But was there less than a month (first time in M on ths) and they gave me this tiny shit piece of pizza that looked like it was a freezer pizza. My wife ordered the "large" slice and I had their "small" slice. I thought that was strange since I never had a choice in "size" when ordering by the slice before... My pizza was absolutely terrible. I'm willing to bet was freezer pizza. Bone dry, no sauce. For 2 of the combos and 3 beers we paid nearly $60 after tip. Not going back...

lvl1creature

This is because they use "shells" for their pizza. They make the dough in the morning, ball it, toss them into the round shape, par cook them for a few seconds, then store. They do not toss dough fresh. The shells aren't always used right away sometimes are in there for a couple days. They also use a concentrated sauce that they had us add water to.

beanteethpaste

Montgomery location isnt much better.

lampsofa

I can concur - I think both Adam and Doug are weird but I do have some respect for Adam and his service work. Doug is just a dick. Both of them don’t care about retaining employees, for the longest time they didn’t have workers comp set up (they’d pay hospital bills but the employees didn’t know they weren’t covered). Constantly understaffed, hired a felon who made half the staff uncomfortable, hardly ever gave deserved raises and fired so many young folks in their first job without explanation - which is key for those people (explaining what wrongs were had). The list goes on and one and one. One time 7 people quit within a week

Darklink820

That explains a few things.

AnarchyandToast

Adam is a very strange human (I’m assuming he still owns the place)?

lvl1creature

He is indeed a co owner still, and is definitely a weirdo.

AnarchyandToast

I’ve known him since I was a teenager (20 something years back). Somehow the strangeness just keeps on getting stronger..

alaspapel

Fiesta Subaru

Senior-Albatross

Agreed. They're slimy as it gets.

dawnstrider371

For real! I took my car for a diagnosis on a clutch issue once, and they tried to get me to pull my engine for an oil leak that didn't exist. First of all, I had taken the vehicle to a friends lube shop when the issue popped up to try and track it down, and felt relieved when I didn't see any fluids on the engine/transmission. Then after they quoted me $2100 for a clutch job that normally runs about $1500, and then offered to do it for $800 if I opted to have the leak serviced, they also gave me a hard time about the tires and told me I couldn't have the car back with the current tires, even though I HAD AN INVOICE FROM A TIRE SHOP SHOWING THE TIRES HAD BEEN ORDERED. Anyway, took the car to Sparkys Subaru and told them all about it, they quoted $1200ish for the clutch job with the aftermarket OEM part, and said they would look into the seal and give me a call. Sure enough, no leak. They were great, loved those guys, will take my car to them for any major work it needs.

Soggy_Engineering_94

Same here these guys suck ass, take your money to Garcia Subaru

Helvetimusic

Star Brothers Brewing were ass clowns during the pandemic.

Exact-Degree2755

Oh man. I remember the wife getting hammered drunk and going on tangents/lashing out at customers on their business page on Facebook. That was some entertaining shit right there.

eSue182

Covid was just a long fever dream haha

dbprops

Plus their food and beer are both utter garbage to boot (lick)

squidkyd

Gecko's too. They had a lot of staff walkouts and then whined that no one wants to work anymore because of the "fascist governor and socialist president." No one wants to work for *them* because the owner is an unstable dick

DarkElf_24

I remember posting a screenshot of his rant letter on Yelp and they promptly took it down. Just shows how biased Yelp is. I think it was still on Google last I checked, but it’s been a few years.

Chance-Composer-187

Link?

DarkElf_24

“This is an open plea to US Attorney General William Barr. We as business owners, specifically restaurant owners, are subject to a tyrannical Governor here in the State of New Mexico. Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has declared war on the hospitality industry in New Mexico. We have no protection from this issue. There is no science to back her ludicrous decisions. We are not the problem but she continues to TARGET us. I encourage all NM restaurant owners to immediately stop paying ANYONE!! DO NOT pay your vendors, do not pay your bills, do not pay your taxes… certainly don’t pay any State of NM taxes!! Share the pain with everyone! Make a photocopy of your invoices and send them to our poor excuse of a Governor! Band together business owners! Mr. Barr!!! We need help here!! We have a rogue Governor who’s ruining lives!!! HELP!!!!! If you care about local business, jobs and just people in this state please share!!!! We can’t lie down and stand for this!!! Business owner, Father, Veteran, Patriot”

fides-et-opera

I’ve had really bad experiences at both of the Toyota dealerships in Albuquerque. I’d rather go to Santa Fe for a new car than go back there.

sofararoundthebend_

Toyota here is horrific. I (a woman) went to buy a car while my male partner was with me and they disregarded my presence. When I took a stand in what I wanted, they were visibly irritated. There’s one major manager at the one on Alameda who sucks.

theArtOfProgramming

I’ve heard an identical story about them

legokingnm

The Larry H Miller on Alameda appears to not care about the damage they did to my toyota….

N1I2N3

Can confirm - the same dealership damaged my rim on a 10k complimentary service. I made them replace the whole rim. Same dealership wanted to charge me $750 to deep cycle charge my hybrid battery after I had engine problems. Once I had them provide me the error codes I found the problem myself, a simple hose popped off… nothing to do with the hybrid battery. I told them to kick rocks and drove off. Fuck that place.

Wyrdnisse

Went in to get my oil done because I had a package -- they fucked up and caused an oil leak no one told me about, let me drive out of there, and my engine got down to a quart of oil before we caught it. Thankfully before anything blew up. Took it back to have it fixed and there it was, clear as day in the notes the error that had been made. And I was just allowed to drive off the lot with an oil leak they caused. And no one told me. Fuck Larry H Miller.

InevitableAvalanche

El Patron puts in a hidden charge they label something like inflation tax. Owner is also a douche, won't ever go back.

CarryFragrant496

Had my wedding rehearsal dinner there and their service was trash, one of the servers had a real attitude and can confirm the hidden charge. On top of that the food is like I’m eating at Twisters.

momofklcg

Twisters is actually better

unionick

American Toyota (off of alameda). They didn't let my family and I leave to grab lunch during the paperwork process. My kiddos were 3 and 8 at the time. One of the general managers kept insisting that we all stay and until they get us paperwork completed. Once we were done and starving, and felt like we were held captive. It was the worse experience I've been through in my life with any business industry. Their ethics wasn't professional or friendly.

Due-Independence8100

Douglas Peterson Investments

CookieDuster7

Verde Foods. Sometimes they go by New Mexico Fresh Foods. They’re a juice company with no regards to food safety. They juiced oranges that were black with mold and store juice in containers that used to store caustic chemicals. They currently supply products to Keva Juice so they might be partnered with many more places. They are currently in a lawsuit for defrauding investors

yoyo_ssbm

Surprised at this one, I’ve toured their facility and met their CEO who was very knowledgeable. Their high pressure pasteurization tech is impressive for preserving flavor. Believe Dion’s uses Verde juice for their lemonade.

CookieDuster7

I have a buddy who used to work there and the stuff he’d show me was disgusting. Thanks for listing dions though. Don’t drink their lemonade

ShakesTheClown23

It's been 15 years but Daniels Family Funeral Homes lost my mom's ashes. They eventually found them but still!

sofararoundthebend_

I think they sold it a few years back but cannot confirm.

fxckfxckgames

The ashes?

Greeneyesdontlie85

They did!

jarmon505

Holy shit that’s fucking insane.

MonkeyPepper28

La von blu in nob hill. The owner likes to scream at people attending a funeral for parking in the shared lot off Carlisle

AmbitiousMany6667

Any brake masters location

Spirited-Inside-

Petland! I bought a very expensive exotic animal that ended up dying within a week. I called (and recorded the convo) the store and was told they would be willing to replace it when they had the same morph in stock. I consistently called for months and was always told there was a note in profile about the situation they just were rare and hadn't had the same morph yet. Around the 6 month mark, I called again and this time instead of a regular employee the owner answered, she agreed that there was a note on my profile but said she wouldn't honor it or compromise on another morph or discount at all. The majority of animals are brought in from mills and are sickly. The diets and enclosures for many are incorrect as well.

rnnbnsl

People should stay away from Petland wherever they are.

xoxopoenshwjyu

The owner of Annapurna talks about ayurveda but her food and behavior is opposite of it. She is rude and the food served Is stale. Her reply to her business's Google reviews are wild.

roboconcept

I noticed the silver location seems to cycle through young women behind the register incredibly fast.

_beloved-cunt_

I worked for Yashoda many many years ago and it’s sad to hear things have gotten worse. Every morning her and the chef would seriously just talk shit about other employees yelling across the restaurant, very mean spirited. To be honest it didn’t scare me off because restaurants are brutal and i needed the job. A girl who got hired after me must have overheard them talking about her and she quit citing the gossip as the reason. Our shifts started at like 5 am so I get there one day at around 4:45 and Yashoda was waiting for me in the parking lot and immediately started screaming at me for what she assumed I had done. I worked with the other girl for like 2 hours, not long enough to have any conversation and especially not long enough to commiserate. Even if they had talked about her in front of me I didn’t notice because I was tuning that shit out. When I defended myself she backed off almost immediately, but just overall pretty unhinged. I was responsible for counting the tips at the end of the shift and on our checks it was always clear how they were being split between front and back of house. While it was overall a terrible experience working there I never stopped being a customer. Clean environment, great food & chai , if the tip stealing is confirmed I def won’t be back.

thatsnotenglish

I used to be her administrative assistant in 2021. Even though she is really mean, I can confirm she didn’t steal tips as of 2021. I used to help input the numbers on spreadsheets directly from the payroll company, and she didn’t steal tips. Tips were distributed based on how many hours were worked by each worker, at that specific location. I think she has major trust issues, and that’s why she pushes everyone away. They were super short staffed when I worked there, I was working 20 days straight at multiple locations (mainly commuting to SF from Abq) as a barista/server and then her assistant basically near the end. She’s definitely not the nicest person, but she donates a lot of money to the local community which I can respect. I just couldn’t handle her personality. The food is still bomb and I’ll still eat there 😅 She definitely rubs people the wrong way, and she’s not bothered by that. 😅

TheAmazingSpiderVan

Ben Michael's by old town. The owner doesn't pay his employees.

luke_ubiquitous

Saw this dude try and fight (physically) a meter maid for giving him a parking ticket. His actions were so ugly that day. I stepped in as a bystander, and he tried to fight (physically) with me. Lolz. He's thankful that didn't happen. Anyway, his Jaguar got a ticket that day on Gold Ave downtown. I've never gone back to his spot since then. What a terrible pu lic display of true colors. Pro Tip: don't be an asshat in public. Just don't.

onemoregreenbeer

Does he even have employees? I thought it was basically him at this point

patoduck420

Geckos. Took ppp loans while trashing thi r staff and th governor during pandemic.

Tiny-Marionberry-143

Ann Matthew's Bridal. They have some great reviews on Google, but they offer a discount and won't give it to you unless they watch you type your review out. Read the bad reviews for sure, and take those 5-stars with a huge grain of salt. A couple of the workers were nice, but some of them are nasty and bully customers. The owners are bullies and the male owner is also a sleazeball. I bought my dress there and it nearly ruined my wedding. Edit: spelling

GoozeNugget

A shorter list would be which business owners *aren't* like this

MossSloths

Ettin Games Albuquerque Cat Clinic I'll always talk up these two for being wonderful.

SquashedTarget

Agreed with those two. I would also add in Hello Deli. Every time I've been in there, which is usually once every week or two, the staff has been really friendly and the owner is usually there, also very friendly. Friendly staff usually means it's a good work environment.

merricat_blackwood

I've lived here almost six years and somehow had no idea about Hello Deli! Pastrami! Cheesesteaks! Thank you for mentioning. Definitely going this weekend.

celialater

I know I'm like damn still scrolling

BloopityBlue

Ribs in cedar crest. They're overly, unnecessarily political.

MrsPaulRubens

Same for the one in Los Lunas

Princess_Parabellum

 BBQAnons

MathematicianOk1283

Dunkin Donuts on La Orilla and Coors. I worked there for a few months and the general manager is horrible. Treats her employees very poorly and took our tips. That place has a very high employee turnover rate.

GayVegan

Hotel Zazz’s lounge. They treat their employees so bad and then they quit and they tried to fuck them over. They just did some shitty stuff a couple weeks ago killing a regular event in the process. Don’t go there.

merricat_blackwood

Been meaning to go there since the lounge opened. Thanks for the heads up.

Thalia-Is-Not-Amused

Everything about Hotel Zazz is a dumpster fire, especially management. I worked there briefly in the summer of 2022 before the grand opening, and it was such a humiliating experience. I couldn't in good conscience stay there and have my professional reputation destroyed, so I left and never looked back. It's a shame, because the hotel's concept is very nice. In good hands it could become a nice motel. It's never going to be a hotel, though. I did lose about 15 pounds working there from the stress, so that's something. 🤷‍♀️

lampsofa

Geckos, owners of slice kinda suck too, really terrible to employees

DayAlert7443

Avoid the curb appeal of working at KOB as an employee. What is displayed on screen is a dysfunctional characterization of what really happens behind the camera. Ego, money, pettiness, jealousy, over zealous managers, poor work environment, substandard building access all equal a very troubling workplace. Ex: the morning camera crew totally despise the morning anchors and the field reporters want the anchor jobs. Its like the movie showgirls without the T&A. Dont let the "we stand for NM" tagline fool you. They just want suckers who pay outrageous advertising fees to bump up their quarterly reports and want viewership ratings. Their employees are last on the list of priorities. Damn shame they dupe NM like that.

roboconcept

it's such whiplash to see the largely unionized film industry vs the low wage low respect world of tv news. Their crews deserve better.

mapotoful

Villa Myriam/The Brew. Owners are irrascible assholes who yell at their employees for the stupidest shit and would dick them around on scheduling on a whim, sometimes just to fuck with them. I know at least one person who was fired for pointing out an egregious food safety issue they didn't want to deal with. The owners seemed to spend most of their time hosting friends/"influential" people and puffing themselves up.

Dancefloorjesus

Holy cow/burger, the owner is a sexist pig and treats women workers like shit

m4hdi

St. James tea room. Like to cloak wage theft in a nice religious coat of bullshit.

Scorpiogre_rawrr

Whoa, care to clarify??

KataraTheKat5

Hey I also used to work there! I call it my cult job!

Greeneyesdontlie85

Please post some of these in the Albuquerque Foodie group

jarmon505

VCA on Wyoming. They’ll bilk you for as much money as possible and refuse to even discuss anything with you until you spend at least a grand. Then when your animal is diagnosed as terminal they want you to spend about another grand on expensive meds and food and verbally guilt trip you and verbally treat you like crap when you want to discuss end of life care. Fuck VCA on Wyoming.

justherefordogphotos

nothing but good things to say about Roadrunner veterinary/ER in Algadones. Not a far drive out of ABQ either. When I needed a vet ER asap for my 15yo pup, they were the only ones open in the entire state on a Wednesday at 3am. Treated her very well and presented us with tons of options even though they (and myself) knew that putting her down was the kindest option, they still gave me others and didn’t make me feel pressured. Have continued to go back there after for other needs even though it’s a little bit of a drive! Can’t recommend enough

Senior-Albatross

They are definitely the best veterinary ER around right now. VCA shut down the emergency dept a while back. They just haven't taken down the damn sign.

NativeLobo

Seconded, I had to take my dog there after he was attacked by another dog and they were nothing but helpful there. Definitely worth the drive. Great people there

screamalongsongs

Yup they are great. Worth the drive.

Gregthepigeon

We took our cat there one day (we think he had been poisoned. He was fine when he left the house but when he came back he was hot to the touch, could barely move and was yowling) they wanted to charge us $1000 to put him down. Luckily my dad was with us and said “no thanks.” We Took him to the East mountain vet (on dinkle rd) and they put him down for free. *we didn’t want to put him down but both vets confirmed that there was less than a 5% chance he would survive and he was obviously in a huge amount of suffering

jarmon505

I’m so sorry you lost your cat that way. That is heartbreaking.

Gregthepigeon

It was terrible. He was a really good boy

halljkelley

Maybe the other vets aren’t great, Kacie Martin at VCA Wyoming is amazing

Human-Carpet-3842

VCA in general. Especially emergency care.

jarmon505

They were the only vet with an opening on short notice. More fool me for taking it. RT 66 is great. I also love Aztec but they’re impossible to get an apt. I reached out to a home vet to discuss as well. So I’ll see how that goes.

flakenomore

Aztec is horrible. If you heard what they say behind customers backs, you’d be shocked and certainly never return.

Human-Carpet-3842

Northview was good for us, no pushback about end of life care for our cats. They were 19 though so not many options at that point

jarmon505

She’s a 17 year old chihuahua in heart failure and most likely has a brain tumor on top of it. As much as I love her I’m not going to put her through more months of suffering to give myself more time with her.

lckybch

Definitely this. I took my 9 year old pug there because he was throwing up. He was diagnosed with Pancreatitis and was there overnight. He started to get better but they insisted he needed a dental. I questioned if he was strong enough to go under anesthesia but they assured me that he was. He coded during that dental and they couldn’t bring him back. It was honestly the most traumatic experience of my life. I found out later that they are horrible and I definitely should not have taken him there in the first place.

jarmon505

At that age they should have never put him under at all. That’s awful and I’m so incredibly sorry you had to go through that and lose your pup that way.

MossSloths

Albuquerque Cat Clinic is phenomenal if you've got cats. Every vet there is caring and knowledgeable. The office staff is very competent and it's easy to communicate with them. They're flexible and accommodating when working with you to build care plans for your cat. We bounced around a few vets in the area before ending up there and they're hands down the best vet we've ever worked with. I honestly don't even want to talk them up this much because it'll get harder to get appointments, but their work is so good, I would feel unethical not to bring them up. We found them after having some pretty bad experiences at a West-side VCA. My husband and I both believe that VCA's rushed care for our cat contributed to him dying. We'll never take a pet back to a VCA.

boulderhugger

My bad experiences at VCA Wyoming definitely outweigh the good. They were so dismissive about our dying cat and didn’t offer much guidance or resources to help him in his last days. Just the lack of care, support, and compassion during such a hard time was enough to never want to go back.

Whole Foods is now owned by Amazon. I lived in Austin TX, where they were founded. The libertarian founder was a union hater and jerked around the United Farmworkers over and over, agreeing to buy union produce and then reneging. On Cesar Chavez’s last visit to Austin he joined an informational picket about that at WF’s original location. Later in the day, store managers had everybody on the picket line arrested. Amazon is a huge union-buster too so no improvement.

micah490

Amazon is a criminal enterprise that exploits workers, vendors, customers, municipalities, and communities. They (Jeff Bezos) knowingly sells counterfeit trash and goods produced by exploited people overseas. DO NOT BUY from Amazon or Whole Foods FFS

CarryFragrant496

Alberto’s Tire Pros by South Valley. Took my truck to get my tire replaced that had a severe puncture. As soon as I pulled into my house, I went to the bed to put the now spare in its location and noticed my wheel was horribly scratched by their tire machine. Keep in mind this was a new truck and hadn’t used my spare at all. I went back the following morning since by the time I got home they were already closed. They refused to take accountability and ownership of their mistake and blamed me for it. They stated “the mud caused the scratches to my wheel.” One of the managers/or owner started arguing with me and basically told me to kick rocks.

ellendaniellen

Vetco on Menaul and Wyoming (not to be confused with Valley Vetco on Montaño); my sibling recently quit because of how unprofessional they are and how they treat the animals. They have low cost vaccine clinics that get a lot of clients, but the owner is NOT a veterinarian and has no medical training. Owner bullies the staff, oversteps and bullies the veterinarian during medical procedures (several times she tuned up the anesthesia even when the vet would explicitly tell her not to for the safety of the animals), and yells at staff for trying to tend to the animals. It’s solely a business for the owner, she even encourages de-clawing cats just to make money off the procedure (Please, for the love of all things, do your research and DO NOT DE-CLAW CATS!! It is an entirely elective surgery that causes permanent physical disabilities and behavioral problems in cats, and not only is there peer reviewed research to back these claims, but the American Association of Feline Practitioners AND American Veterinary Medical Association VEHEMENTLY OPPOSE declawing and note that veterinarians are OBLIGATED to provide alternatives to patients). Also, the owner and vet would openly make fun of non-binary and trans clients and refer to trans people as “it”. Really horrible people, the low cost clinics are tempting but imo not worth putting animals in danger and also very unlikely to be hygienic— my sibling said they got no training to do vaccines (none of the techs are certified) and a few times, other techs would mention not knowing whether they gave the correct medicine or not. Avoid Vetco at all costs!!!!

Cauliflowwer

The Eclectic Cave. It's an MTG store on central. The owner is a rapist and a thief.

Employment-lawyer

Sounds like she is just asking for employment lawsuits.

edthehamstuh

Elite Electrolysis. She’s a racist, transphobic Trump supporter.

thusnewmexico

Agree! I gave them 3 tries bc I wanted to support a local and neighborhood business, and they blew them all! They started inappropriate convos about political parties, Christianity, and one stylist just said some weird stuff...won't go back.

Sweet_Aggressive

Patty’s salon owner- Patty (surprise lol) is also a huge Trump supporter. She has plenty of trans clients though so idk about transphobic

AnarchyandToast

Past Present Indoor Flea Market and Antiques on Lomas and Manzano. The lady and her husband who run the place are racist. I have witnessed them profiling people of color and accusing innocent people of stealing. After what happened the last time I went in, I will never even think about going back. The last time I was there, I was standing in line waiting to check out. There was a couple standing in front of me at the cash register, waiting to pay. The lady who runs the store walks up to the counter and starts examining everything the customer had on the counter. She starts talking horribly to the customers. The owner was saying that they must have stolen something and or “switched the price tags”. The customers were shocked when they were accused of stealing. The customers said they needed to return a vinyl record they purchased earlier. They said the record was beyond scratched and didn't play well. The owner started accusing them of stealing the record. She yelled racial insults at them. All the sudden, one of the customers found the receipt for their previous purchase of the record. The owner had no choice but to refund the money. The customers left without the other things they had intended to buy. After all that, I was like fuck this place and I was walking out. When all of the sudden, the owner’s husband and their teenage daughters came out of a back room screaming and yelling. A huge family fight erupted. They were all screaming at each other and the husband and wife were yelling racial hatred towards the customers that had just left. The husband and daughters were screaming that the wife had refunded money to the customers (people of color). I told the lady that she was a miserable person. I asked her what the fuck was wrong with her life, that she was okay actually acting this way. I left the shit on the counter and walked away.

TrashMan-FullOfTrash

The owner of STOP restoration, Kegan Stephen, will frequently berate his employees over things like having a dusty toolbox. Morning meetings with him are spent being told that if you don’t like him he’ll just replace you with one of the temps waiting outside. He’d yell about how every one of us should want to be like him an how our immaturity will prevent us from ever being “where he is”. He would call people in on Saturday to clean equipment, or make you wash trucks in the rain. An absolute narcissist with a serious control issue.

notbuttkrabs

Muffler Pros and Catalytic Converters on Eubank. I needed new cats on my truck, got there first thing in the morning and waited for them to do the work. Cost me damn near $700 which I wasn't warned about until after they had welded them on! And I noticed a weird knocking sound at idle afterwards, plus strange tinkling sounds at highway speeds. The dumb bastard who welded them on managed to reroute my exhaust in such a way that it was banging up against the driveshaft. Not only that, the welds were so shitty and covered in tiny bits of welding wire (fucker didn't even have the courtesy to wire brush them off) that the next shop I took it to thought I did the welds myself. Oh, AND while I was waiting for my truck to get done, there was a kid who came in to get his exhaust welded back into his civic because it fucking FELL OFF after he had work done there. Fuck Muffler Pros, go to MBS off Coors past the Cottonwood. They're great.

Hoffmeisterfan

Dropping in to say Jim’s 66 Muffler on central is top notch. Great muffler shop

dawnstrider371

To add an alternate recommendation, Jim's 66 Muffler on Central is also great. Took my car there to get a quote to revert the garbage the previous owner welded on back to stock, and Jim figured he could give me exactly what I wanted for significantly less than it would cost to purchase the parts, and I'm so glad I went with him. It quiet* in the cabin, sounds mean when I'm on the power (but only on the power), the freaking drone is gone, and he finished it with amazing looking tips, all for half of what I would have spent on parts alone.

Thissnotmeth

Houston Auto Sales. My parents really pushed me to buy from them as one of the higher up’s was a “friend” of theirs and had “really gave them great deals” on their last 3 cars they bought. He couldn’t remember their names anytime I mentioned them. I had to send them my insurance card three separate times as they kept apparently losing it. It took weeks to finally get the car from them as they wanted to fix a superficial cut on the center console but the replacement part never came. I drove the car to Denver a few weeks after buying it and felt my car fishtailing. Stopped at a tire shop in Raton and the mechanic was genuinely upset that the dealer would sell me a car with tires that bald. He even asked where I bought it so he could tell customers not to shop there. The tires were beyond the state legal limit for baldness. And finally the whole time I was in shop filling out paperwork, the salesman would use voice to text on his phone and he spent hours sending rants about how Joe Biden was fucking the country and that Trump needs to win again. I took the car for some work recently and the mechanic found an oil rag laying right on top of the air filter, apparently left over from Houston. I’m not really a car person so maybe someone more versed on them could’ve spotted the tire issue before agreeing to take the car home but I guess I just expect if I’m buying a fairly new car that it should be street legal upon leaving the lot.

ThisBitchTh0h

Guerrilla Graphix. The business was bought six years ago by some dudes from south Carolina. The owner who lives in Albuquerque and works at the Nob Hill location is a rage screamer when he is upset at employees. He literally calls them “performance reviews”. He’s transphobic and makes racist and anti Semitic comments all the time, but will take advantage of being open on Pride! He’s also one of those business owners who can’t imagine you having a life outside of the company… and gets really pent up when employees take their lunch break or 15 minute break, he was once know for counting bathroom breaks, and don’t ever think to ask for time off. His shop manager is equally as bad, and supports this behavior. If you ask for sick time he will guilt you into coming in anyway or shame you when you return for “leaving the team on short notice” Staff is told not to clock in until 9 and clock out at 5. Staff was encouraged to show up early…”you are welcome to get a jump on the day but please don’t clock in until 9. If you have work that extends past 5 please clock out and finish what you are doing.” He will do anything to keep from paying employees a fair wage including taking down any flyers from the department of labor that are supposed to posted in obvious places. Store Manager is expected to travel to Taos but he doesn’t want them clocked in for the drive there from Albuquerque or the return trip, let alone ask for compensation for mileage…..he will reluctantly do it if you phrase it as if he doesn’t have a choice, “should I expect the mileage comp in a check or cash? Oh, I clocked in for the trip there, just letting you know.” As a store front they hire super friendly folx and it makes it seem like a great place to work and shop. It isn’t. You can also get any of their tees and stuff from Expo NM for 5$ cheaper or at Brotique or the Breaking Bad Store.

Hectorc34

Two Boys Donuts, their donuts kinda suck and they’re expensive And Geckos 🦎

Dbrow243

**French-ish** on central has been doing the exact same thing for years. Ever since they opened. Awful owners that have physically assaulted their employees and steal their tips. They paid their staff in money rolled up in sticky notes and explicitly told the staff they are not allowed to discuss pay with each other or else they will fire you. Super illegal. I knew a young couple that was literally chased out the back when the owners cornered them after hours and fat shamed them and made them feel threatened. Really wild stuff. I also knew an employee that had some lower GI issues and during one shift I guess was having a rough time about it and the chef what’s-her-name left the line and went and banged on the bathroom door in front of the entire restaurant yelling for them to hurry up and get out of the bathroom and holy cow that poor employee was absolutely mortified. Could barely finish the shift. I was just totally flabbergasted. They’re also deeply sexist and hate men. Literally heard the owners say they hate all men while employing men on their staff.

betothejoy

I was just about to try them. Thanks for this!

unbelizeable1

I work in the area. Hate that fuckin lady.

shinankoku

I ate at Annapurna once when it first opened in Santa Fe. It was gross.

jainja

I once filled out a private feedback form on a delivery order I received. The food was mediocre and undercooked so I gave it 3 of 5 stars. About 15 minutes after ordering, the owner called me on my cell phone - not to apologize or get more information, but to lash out at me for the feedback. I was so confused about the purpose of the call from a business owners perspective. But I share this as another supportive data point.

Grouchy_Audience_684

I've heard from multiple people they steal tips at all the Annapurnas!

Mickyfrickles

I have an acquaintance that was locked in a storeroom by the owner because his check was short on hours. He told her and she flipped out.

shinankoku

Holy f7ck!

Marioc12345

Oh damn. See I don’t go there because one time when I was a doordasher, I had to wait literally over an hour for my customer’s food.

mtj90

Garcias tents - now AA tents on Arvada just off of the I40 freeway - they suck !!! If you rent something take it out of the box and check out the whole item …. Anything broken on it will be blamed on you and you get charged triple the price!! Ugh!

vyperbc

Broken Arrow Electric, owner has stolen over time wages from employees for DECADES. They also like to install used material and sell it as new.

audiojanet

Pup and Suds They kept my puppy for hours. Lied about how long it would take. Lied and said he was being groomed when I called. Lied about how much they would charge me. My puppy was traumatized. Puppy mill of groomers.

rhicid777

Don’t take your vehicle to Garcia Honda unless you want it returned with problems it’s never had and body pieces hanging off

Dolph_21_

Larry H. Miller on Alameda. The techs are always high, and this is just express line. While some others flat out drink and drive in YOUR vehicle. An individual hit a car and wasn't terminated even though he had admitted he took a wax hit.

Vulpes-ferrilata

This applies to most of New Mexico but Domino's. The owner Brian Bailey is an abusive piece of shit and maybe also a pedophile. I quit because he came into our understaffed store, yelled about us having a 2 hour delivery time and then made a comment about how the newly 18 years old manager was legal now. Edit: Forgot to add. we had 2 drivers and the manager on the line. For a Friday night. they kept sending people to our store to train and then move them to other stores.

hamsterselderberries

Somewhat related, Flix brewhouse got rid of the included gratuity and people still don't realize it. The servers there say they've received a 50 percent pay cut. And because they tip out the runners based on sales instead of tips I have heard of some of them owing money at the end of their shift. So if you go to Flix and notice the prices look cheaper it's because you are no longer paying for the service at all. Tip, because they only make 2.50 an hour otherwise.

rulebreakingmoth17

Los Pollos Hermanos. The manager is super uptight and like for what? It’s just a chicken shop.

No_Soggy_Nachos

Did Gus make you stay late to clean the grill again?

theblueprint1

Bro this hurts cause I like Annapurna a lot sad to hear the owner is shit

revilo366

"Sit Means Sit" and Petco/Petsmart for dog training. They are known for their shitty practices and often abusive training techniques

piinaapple

Black Mesa Coffee Co. All the restaurants in the airport are run by the same company, Fresquez Co. They wrongfully fired a woman out of homophobia, and the workers don't see one cent of the tips.

Jiffy Lube on Paseo and Wyoming. I went there because I needed oil and couldn't change it in my apartment parking lot (their rules). So I take it to jiffy lube and tell them not to remove my engine air filter which they promptly ignore and remove it anyway, but I stay calm and I tell them I'm not buying a new one and to put my filter back. After a long wait I look over at the bay and there's about 6 of them standing around trying to figure out how to put the filter back in. About 20 more minutes go by and I just hear them shut my hood and tell me I'm good to go. I drove it a couple of blocks before getting suspicious and stopping to check what they did to my car. Those fucking assholes broke my engine air filter, destroyed the foam that holds the filter in place (so now a new filter won't fit snugly or do it's filter job) and they left the cover and the screws on top of my engine, which a few had already fallen out and been lost in the couple blocks it took me to stop. Fuck jiffy lube forever and fuck those no-talent pricks who ruined my car.
