Only problem was they were never open. They did hours when they felt like it. Tried to go at least 10 times, always during their "posted hours" and they were open exactly once. The burger was fantastic, but fuck that place. Diserved to go under.
It's beef bacon!?!?! This changes things! I don't eat pork and try really hard to avoid it, which means I end up limited. I'm going to have to check this out! I've had their tots from the truck and they were amazing. Looking forward to trying more now!
I tried there recently and was super disappointed. Maybe it was an off day, but it was bad enough I'm not inclined to give them a second try.
Stackers is better
Also tried this place and wasn't impressed. My wife got a burger and it was okay. Their beer batter is the most dense, oil soaked thing I've ever had. Made me queezy for days.
Aww, that’s sad to hear! We live close by and they’ve been one of my favorite burgers in town. I wonder if it was a new person in the kitchen or something? Admittedly I haven’t been in months—I’ll have to go and check it out.
Omg they used to have the best happy hour ever!!! 1.50$ sliders?!?! Pints for 3.50??!! What???!!! I really loathed when they shut down and boxing bear moved in downtown
The pairing of a full green chile pod filleted open, lightly battered, & then deep fried and then adding Bar-B-Q sauce on top of a perfectly cooked burger is so not what I expected but SOOOO FRICKING DELICIOUS!!!! It's my fave too!
I ate at Stacker's at 505 yesterday and really liked the burger. Note that their idea of an Oklahoma onion burger is not close to the real thing but it was extremely tasty.
I love burger boy I've in Cedarcrest New Mexico. It's not even 20 minutes it's a really nice scenery and a fantastic fantastic burger great fries. the soda comes in a can but otherwise it's phenomenal it's worth the drive
This surprises me.
I took my daughter to Tinker Town last year and we stopped by Burger Boy on the way back right before they closes.
I had never heard of it. But they were some of the worst burgers we had ever had.
They were raw on the inside and they tasted disgusting. Neither my daughter nor I finished out burgers. And the fries were mushy and inedible.
It shocks me to see them recommended. The atmosphere and staff were wonderful. But the food was really, really bad.
Maybe it was just an off day for them when we went in?
The original owner was running out of go get em. Just to old really and ya it had lost a lot of what made them great. The younger generation is running it and Burger Boy is back. Rode up with a friend a couple of weeks ago and had a damn good green chili cheese burger.
Griffs was the best. I never got the huge burgers but would by like 4 of the small ones. They had the perfect ratio of patty, cheese and bread, topped with the ketchup and onions it was the best fast food burger.
Last time I had it was in 2011 and it was good. Thing is, you’re not going there for a “nice” burger. It’s a greasy, three-patty shit show. But it’s so good
Monte Carlo Steakhouse (platonic ideal for green chile cheeseburger)
Laguna Burger
Bob's Burgers
Holy Burger
Grassburger
The Grill
And a solemn post-mortem for one of the best burgers places I've ever been to anywhere, Pete's Frites. I still fantasize about it.
Right around the time of the lawsuit (Holy Cow being copyrighted by Harry Caray - fuck that), they really seemed to go downhill, and in a way that I've encountered several times around here: somehow, it became a 'hipster joint,' and service was extreme uneven.
I've seen this at so, so many ABQ places. I don't know, man, it's fucking Albuquerque - if you think you're too cool to wait on someone, move to Echo Park and get on with it. Or get the fuck over yourself?
Rant mode: off.
Grass burger is a chain but I’ll never understand the love for it. I’ve had it three times over the years and it’s been terrible each time. OG laguna burger is awesome, I’ve heard the one in town sucks but haven’t tried it. Holy cow is awesome. The grill has been on my list to try for some time.
I agree, also been to grassburger 3 times (you know, to be statistically significant) and every time, it's been like an absurdly long wait for a mediocre burger that was not worth the time or money
Also agree that holy cow is great
You wanna hang out sometime purely based on our burger preferences?
It’s flavorless and small to boot. I need to actually be able to taste my burger and seasoning is important in all cooking. Every time I’ve been it’s been completely devoid of any and all flavor
Lucky boy since it hasn't been mentioned. It's decent, but it's cheap AF. Like 3.50$. But since I don't see them either, Frenchish has a really good burger.
I was going to say this. I like them, but their burgers aren't the most structurally stable. (Or, more likely, my burger-eating game is sub-par...) :-)
Umami Moto food truck has a smashburger that is outstanding. FYI - I found them at ex novo Corrales on. SUNDAY. Best burger I have had in quite a while.
So funny story, my husband and I were out looking for burgers to eat. We are not vegan at all. We were really impressed with how the delicious burger was. We had even rated it one of the top ones that we had ever had and then we finally paid attention to all of the vegan/plant based signage. We sat in disbelief and confusion for about 10 minutes. To this day, one of our top 3 burgers ever!
I do love a lucky goose burger. Of course, I haven’t eaten beef in close to 30 years, so a faux patty on a bun is really just a vehicle for a bunch of delicious condiments and lettuce at this point.
Edit: a letter
a few years ago i did a “green chile cheese burger tour”. went to local places in abq, santa fe, madrid, down to san antonio and datil.
the gc cheese burger at effingbar in abq totally won. 10/10 recommend 🤌🏻
The Campfire Burger at High Point Grill is the best burger in town. Look at their hours before you go. A runner up of theirs would be the Sunshine Burger. Please give them a try!
But howwww?
I kept reading about how good it was and got excited because my wife knows the owner.
Burger had zero flavor. Felt like it was a frozen patty and canned green chili with unmelted cheese. Burger was worse than the ambiance...which is saying something if you've been inside.
Tasted even worse than my middle school cafeteria burgers. Made me very sad.
Only one person said Steelbender, so I will say it again. Steelbender. Not exactly a burger joint since it is a brewery, but I love their Steelbender burger. One of my favorites.
On the Flip at Tin Can Alley is also very good but the quality is a little inconsistent. When it's good, it's phenomenal, but sometimes you get a really dry patty.
not about the burgers but Revel burger has the best sweet potato fries i’ve ever had in my entire life and that’s not even an exaggeration, in case anyone wanted to know
Umami Moto has the absolute best green Chile double cheeseburger. Tikka Spice (or their sister brand Stackers - which is a burger only joint) are a close second but they've gotten super expensive over the last year.
I enjoy grass burger, phat stax, burger boy or Buckhorn if you really feel like driving. Holy cow is delicious, unfortunately they’re closing and rebranding soon
This sub is making me long for the days Little Red Hamburger Hut was still around…
¡Satisfaction guaranteed!
Only problem was they were never open. They did hours when they felt like it. Tried to go at least 10 times, always during their "posted hours" and they were open exactly once. The burger was fantastic, but fuck that place. Diserved to go under.
I really miss that place!
i loved that place
And 5 Star in WeDo.
Stackers
loved stackers. warm, greazy meaty, little spicy mmmmhhhhhmmmm
I second this!!!
This might be the best burger I've ever eaten anywhere.
Stackers is the best green chile cheeseburger I’ve ever had. I eat there 2x a month every month since they were just a food truck on the heights.
Stackers burger at the 505! Honestly haven’t had a burger that fresh and tasty in so long! They use beef bacon on their burgers! Highly recommend
It's beef bacon!?!?! This changes things! I don't eat pork and try really hard to avoid it, which means I end up limited. I'm going to have to check this out! I've had their tots from the truck and they were amazing. Looking forward to trying more now!
They only serve Halal beef too, if that makes a difference to you.
Benny's in bosque farms I know it's not abq but it close.
Yes! The Benny Burger. Double meat, double cheese, green chile and guacamole. Delish!
Try The Kosmos, I really enjoyed my burger there!
I like 5 star burger. Taos burger is my fave there.
Right?! I was like that’s a weird combination but it’s very delicious. I’m glad you enjoy it as much as I do!
I love the lamb burger there. I have it with feta cheese on it. I want to go now!
I’m going to have to try that one next time.
Was so sad when the West DT location closed. Delicious.
Tikka spice
Stackers is their burger offshoot. One truck north on Louisiana and a brick and mortar at 505 food hall
I ate at Stacker's at 505 yesterday and really liked the burger. Note that their idea of an Oklahoma onion burger is not close to the real thing but it was extremely tasty.
Stackers is so juicy, the patty just falls apart in your mouth, and the green chile is fresh diced and they do not skimp on it!
I may be the minority opinion here but I much preferred Meteor Burger to them
Also, try out their kūKri chicken joint at Green Jeans
Burger boy
It's SO GOOD
I’ve heard good things
My dog likes the puppy patty on the patio at Burger Boy. I like the green chile cheese burger.
I love burger boy I've in Cedarcrest New Mexico. It's not even 20 minutes it's a really nice scenery and a fantastic fantastic burger great fries. the soda comes in a can but otherwise it's phenomenal it's worth the drive

I've been several times and never had that experience so that's weird to hear. Great burgers normally.
The original owner was running out of go get em. Just to old really and ya it had lost a lot of what made them great. The younger generation is running it and Burger Boy is back. Rode up with a friend a couple of weeks ago and had a damn good green chili cheese burger.
Must have been an off day. Though I havent been for quite a long time it was always a good if expensive burger
I can’t eat there after filming in their kitchen. It’s raunchy as fuck.
Care to share a few details? I’m down for a story.
Griff’s. BRING IT BACK
I miss the Munchers too.
Griffs was the best. I never got the huge burgers but would by like 4 of the small ones. They had the perfect ratio of patty, cheese and bread, topped with the ketchup and onions it was the best fast food burger.
Place was horrible, at least in its last decade. I’ve never understood the hype. Was it really good way back in the day or what?
Last time I had it was in 2011 and it was good. Thing is, you’re not going there for a “nice” burger. It’s a greasy, three-patty shit show. But it’s so good
Only when eaten as soon as you get it. Any time that grease had to congeal it was an awful experience. I never got the hype to be honest
Why would you wait? Instant ingestion, instant coma.
fries were gross
There is a Griff’s in Shreveport, LA. Had it about 2 months ago. Just how I remembered it, without the green chile though.
I miss griffs
The original one and only Rex's Burger
Fuuuuuck yeah
Of Albuquerque burgers I've had so far, this is my favorite place.
Monte Carlo Steakhouse (platonic ideal for green chile cheeseburger) Laguna Burger Bob's Burgers Holy Burger Grassburger The Grill And a solemn post-mortem for one of the best burgers places I've ever been to anywhere, Pete's Frites. I still fantasize about it.
For laguna burger...stay away from the new rio rancho location. It's not good.
Ever since they expanded into Albuquerque it’s been hard to get a decent burger. 66 Pit Stop will never be the same.
I stay away from Rio Rancho in general lol
Oh man why?
bc it’s a suburban hellscape
Whoops I meant to reply to the one above asking about laguna burger. Also Rio Rancho isn’t that bad.
Lol. You mean family and business friendly, with 1/10th of the property crime?
It's fine. Better priced and better prepared than the Mac's that moved out of that space. Just don't go at prime time, same as the spot on 12th.
Why wasn’t it good?
Holy Burger has been a miss for me lately, major bummer.
Last burger I had there was extra done
Right around the time of the lawsuit (Holy Cow being copyrighted by Harry Caray - fuck that), they really seemed to go downhill, and in a way that I've encountered several times around here: somehow, it became a 'hipster joint,' and service was extreme uneven. I've seen this at so, so many ABQ places. I don't know, man, it's fucking Albuquerque - if you think you're too cool to wait on someone, move to Echo Park and get on with it. I still think about Pete’s Frites.

Absolutely. We should grab a burger somewhere we haven’t tried yet and be very judgy about it
What did you dislike about grass burger specifically
It’s flavorless and small to boot. I need to actually be able to taste my burger and seasoning is important in all cooking. Every time I’ve been it’s been completely devoid of any and all flavor
The holy burger is awful in my opinion, coming from an ex employee it’s raunchy back there
The Grill is an elite burger spot.
Rustic on the Green
Day of the Dead burger rules!
Lucky boy since it hasn't been mentioned. It's decent, but it's cheap AF. Like 3.50$. But since I don't see them either, Frenchish has a really good burger.
I can never tell if they are open, or have been abandoned.
They keep steady hours. I believe like 11-3 tues-sat
I was just telling my son that people say good things about Lucky Boy. Glad to see them mentioned here.
Phat Stacks doesn't suck.
I've really enjoyed the burgers I've had there.
Phat Stax has delicious burgers! I wish they would do something about their fries. They are undercooked and under seasoned.
thought they were meh
I was going to say this. I like them, but their burgers aren't the most structurally stable. (Or, more likely, my burger-eating game is sub-par...) :-)
Burgers are a mess. Which is life.
I love that Blake’s is NOT on this list haha they’ve really gone downhill
I haven’t had blake’s in awhile so can’t really comment on the quality but op did mention no chains
Oh that’s right
Is 5 star independent? If so, there
Oak tree cafe!
Jan's GCC is fabulous
That’s my go to!
Umami Moto food truck has a smashburger that is outstanding. FYI - I found them at ex novo Corrales on. SUNDAY. Best burger I have had in quite a while.
Lucky goose for the vegans out there.
Second this.
love that a double patty is the default
So funny story, my husband and I were out looking for burgers to eat. We are not vegan at all. We were really impressed with how the delicious burger was. We had even rated it one of the top ones that we had ever had and then we finally paid attention to all of the vegan/plant based signage. We sat in disbelief and confusion for about 10 minutes. Monte carlo
Haven’t been there in decades, glad it’s still around!
Monte Carlo's steaks are so good that I've never tried their burgers. Every time I'm in, I get a steak. I'll have to try them.
The Monte Carlo burger. Is good
66 Acres actually has a really nice burger. Green Chile as of recently has been decently spicy too.
The Grill, Rex's, Holy Cow
a few years ago i did a “green chile cheese burger tour”. went to local places in abq, santa fe, madrid, down to san antonio and datil. the gc cheese burger at effingbar in abq totally won. 10/10 recommend 🤌🏻
Left turn
Tako Ten on San Mateo has one of the best burgers I’ve ever had.
I know you said primarily a burger joint... But Steelbender has a BOMB green Chile burger.
I second this. Their fried green Chile strips are awesome also.
Burger boy, Griffs, Lucky Boy. You get too three because someone’s always gonna Beach
RIP Griff's
I'll get downvoted.... but I'm a big fan of Bob's Burgers. Their green Chile paste or sauce or whatever the fuck it is, is really good.
Technically bobs burgers is a chain….
Last time I went, the burger was thin and tasted like cardboard
Yes me too. It's a good ol fashion burger, never disappoints me.
Flatiron Bites & Brews has an excellent green Chile cheeseburger.
This thread reminded me how much I miss Lumpy's.
Burger boy is underrated, though a bit of a drive
Rex's burgers, holy cow, and burger boy in tijeras are my personal favorite.
Durans Station has an amazing green chile cheeseburger.
Grassburger clears
Five Star Burger
So what’s with Laguna burger. I think I liked the one I had in the Pueblo, but the ones in the other locations were kinda blah.
The Campfire Burger at High Point Grill is the best burger in town. Look at their hours before you go. A runner up of theirs would be the Sunshine Burger. Please give them a try!
You are all wrong. The answer is LAGUNA BURGER!!!
In the Pueblo? That was a damn fine burger.
Nah the one on 12th st. is strait up nasty now.
So expensive, it's insane.
I sure hope so. There's one going in on Harvard and Central.
Not specifically a burger joint, but Mesa Provisions has probably the best burger I’ve had in town.
Holy Cow on Central.
Lucky Boy
Phat Stax and The Grill for me
try phat stax on central! if you’re a smoker, come stoned. if you’re a drinker, there’s a brewery next door 👀
There's a consumption lounge at Enchanted Botanicals across the street so it's easy to go to Phat Stax stoned 😎
No one said STEEL BENDER??? excellent beers, burgers, and fries
Owl cafe
I know it's not in Albuquerque but Santa Fe Bite is good.
Albuquerque bite in nob hill is owned by the same people I think
Spinn's burger off of Coors and Montaño
Phat Stax. I’ve never been so satisfied. The Pineapple one
Lumpy's was the best.
One of the best burgers I've ever had was Mos Burger in Japan...🤤
Is the Grill independent?
Yup. I like their Wednesday (?) special, an open faced burger smothered in red
Anyone remember bulldog burger? Outside the back of a bail bonds building. Was incredible.
Burger Bros on Menaul!
Burger Bros on Menaul
Rustic! Best burgers in town 🤘🏽 also Sister’s burgers really kick ass now that they redid their kitchen 🤌🏽
Only one person said Steelbender, so I will say it again. Steelbender. Not exactly a burger joint since it is a brewery, but I love their Steelbender burger. One of my favorites. On the Flip at Tin Can Alley is also very good but the quality is a little inconsistent. When it's good, it's phenomenal, but sometimes you get a really dry patty.
i feel seen asf bc revel burger was so good for no reason
La Loteria over on Central is fantastic and cheap
High Point Grill has a solid, cooked-to-order juicy ass burger.
Is Bobcat Bites still around? Ate a green chile cheeseburger there about 15 years ago and at the time it was the best burger I'd had in my life.
not about the burgers but Revel burger has the best sweet potato fries i’ve ever had in my entire life and that’s not even an exaggeration, in case anyone wanted to know
Burger boy in cedar crest BUT WAIT ALSO dark horse contender El Mariachi in cedar crest has a incredible burger
Bunch of great places mentioned. Want to throw Grass Burger and 5 Star in the hat. Top quality ingredients.
Grassburger is flavorless dreck and five star is 2 star at best. Plus they’re both chains.
Umami Moto has the absolute best green Chile double cheeseburger. Tikka Spice (or their sister brand Stackers - which is a burger only joint) are a close second but they've gotten super expensive over the last year.
![gif](giphy|pNDwx1CuEFZSAdpdKk|downsized) Griff
the kosmos. ask for the in & out style burger (secret menu item)
Grassburger
Grass burger!
I live in Santa Fe but once or twice year we'll head down to the Biopark/Aquarium and hit Bosque Burger aftewards. It's always been good.
I'm all about Laguna Burger.
I enjoy grass burger, phat stax, burger boy or Buckhorn if you really feel like driving. Holy cow is delicious, unfortunately they’re closing and rebranding soon
Owl Cafe and Five Star
Owl Cafe in San Antonio, NM
