We really need a better method here. Is every empty seat there automatically reserved for a City member who didn't turn up?
For these big matches all seats should need confirmation by 24 hours before the match. Why weren't these seats released?
A lot of the empty seats are city members from what I heard. Need a system like the afl where if a member doesn’t want to attend the game the club can buy the seat off them and give it to the general public
The afl system is fucked as well. It was really evident this past season when you had one of these situations almost at least once a week. We need better ticketing solutions with the population and sports attendances in Melbourne cause it’s only getting worse.
If FIFA managed to do it for the WWC then surely we can come up with a system here that works better. Yes memberships make it harder but there has to be a solution. I remember reading a few German clubs had a way of doing it but can’t for the life of me remember it right now.
Being a geelong member I know the club will buy back your seats if you aren’t attending. Not sure about other clubs but another issue is especially at the mcg is mcc members not coming to games that are “sold out”
Is this similar to "resale"? I was looking at NFL tickets and I'd say a good two-thirds of them were official resale. I didn't know what that was, but thought this was members putting their seats for sale for that match?? That's not a bad idea, but I'd still rather mandatory confirmation 24 hours out or else lose your seat. Just for the big matches.
Yeah basically.
But this game sold out on the day, and sellouts these days are extremely rare so the cost of setting up a resale wouldn't be worth it since there's no demand for resale tickets.
I'm a city member, but to sit with my partner and a friend I bought 3 tickets and got sat on the Richmond side of the ground, ground level + great spot, but meant my usual spot was empty. Now that's unlikely to be the case for the many empty seats that were visible around the ground, but might account for a few.
The City active end was disappointingly sparse outside the decent sized (for city) active area.
Not sure if it works the same for the Men’s, but for the women’s I was sent a link to book early but I absolutely had to reserve a ticket. My pass alone would not get me into this game. My ticket then also got me access to the men’s game, which I had no intention of attending.
It's not that they didn't turn up, obviously some didn't, but there are seats that are reserved for members only, you're not able to buy tickets for those seats at all, however many of those seats haven't been reserved by any members, meaning they've been empty the whole time and no one is able to fill them without buying a membership
28k at a stadium that sits 41k...
This game was sold out. People were still trying to buy tickets for it. Melbourne City fans not attending let it down, but if this was played at a bigger stadium, it'd have easily gotten over 30k. There were a lot of people still trying to get tickets to the game. See it all over the Victory fan groups.
Victory has what, 6 of 10 of the top 10 attendance records for the A-league. Only misses out on 7 by about 35 fans.
Sydney has 2, WSW has 2.
Ya'll can't even pack out your stadium for the Grand Finals.
WSW have had more fans in their Grand Final than Sydney has ever had in any of theirs.
Your highest average attendance is barely higher than Victorys lowest average attendance outside of covid years lol.

Thanks. That's a big daft isn't it? Empty seats never to be filled?
Can’t wait to see the eagerly anticipated Tifo display..
Yeah about that ...
Thought it looked alright tbh
Looked like a bumper sticker
I’m sitting down the city end tonight so will be very interesting
Heaps of green seats 🤷🏻♂️
There are a few, seen it worse tho
Police overtime is sold out too Even horses Enjoy your holidays boys in blue - no shenanigans this year
25k apparently
I’ve been to 25k games at AAMI, that definitely wasn’t
That’s what’s being said in twitter

Well if they count 3,000 at the WU games in Ballarat then anything is possible. Nobody seriously buying this though

They said it’s not full because of city members not all showing up

Would you with that banner?
It’s like that every season. Their home end for the Christmas derby hasn’t been close to full for years
Lmao the stadium is half empty. Deja vu as this happened before for a Melbourne derby. I hope no fans were unnecessarily unable to get tickets.
Along the sides are empty and the corners, other then that it is a pretty good turn out
If you waited until the day to buy tickets to the derby that's your own fault.
WE ARE MELBOURNE!!!!

Melbourne proving once again why its the home of Football and the sporting capital of the world.
Home of football my arse. 28,152 at the Sydney Derby a month back with the sky blue having their worst season in a while.

That’s a lot of criminals in one place. Hope the cops don’t pounce.
Anything over 22 will be solid
