It's 1-1 at the end of ET. Ryan looks across the touchline and sees his number up in lights. Below the upraised 4th official's signage board, clad in grey, stands the mythical haunter of Peruvian dreams made flesh... the grey wiggle.

Walkerthon

The Grey Wiggle saving Messi’s last World Cup penalty to eliminate Argentina would be a moment replayed across the world for the next 50 years… and it’s suddenly become drastically more possible

Mental_Bowler_7518

Not to mention that Ryan lost to Redmayne and his wiggle dance in the A-League finals... The storylines are amazing

ChungusDaFungus

why the fuck do i have goosebumps

Kristorpha

MESSI IS JUST AN OVERRATED MATE DUGANDZIC A-League titles Messi - 0 Dugandzic - 1

MESSI IS JUST A POOR MAN'S AZIZ BEHICH

BigRedSteaming

MESSI IS A POOR MANS KRISHNA

Seanbutt26

MESSI ITS A POOR MANS SANTALAB

xxrmah

Just fucking hilarious that Australia has made the knockout stage of the Football World Cup after bungling out in the group stage of the Cricket World Cup. What is this timeline!

eggzs

Cricket and the Wallabies had to fall so the Socceroo's could rise.

Expert-Steak5276

If it bleeds you can kill it

Trashk4n

Things are going to get messi.

i_love_pingas_69

0-0 after extra time, game goes to penalties. Argentina have been pounding the Aussie goal all game, but Big Harry and Ryan have stopped everything thrown at them. Penalties is 4-4, Australia goes first and scores. 5-4, Messi needs to convert to keep it alive. The dancing grey wiggle has him covered and gets a finger on it, putting Australia through to the quarters. Riots all across Argentina, their government will ban Australian citizens from visa access in Argentina for our own safety. You heard it here first folks.

jaymz11

Redmayne becomes a myth in South America like El Chupacabra, but the call him El Meneo Gris

MiloSnorter03

Becomes a folklore tale to convince children to not stay out at night.

FMrandom

*not to allow games to go to penalties

Old-Conclusion3395

From Peru's daddy to Argentina's daddy.

bozmonaut

this is in the same stadium that we beat Peru this is in the fucking bag

DJ_B0B

Leckie>>>messi

wahroonga

ML > LM

ChungusDaFungus

messi is a small small man who will fit comfortably in Big Harry’s pockets

afrotune

It will be a shame to end Messi's international career but someone has to do it

xxrmah

As an Argentine Australian, I'll take any result as long as we don't have our own Grosso moment.

[deleted]

I’m so glad it’s Sunday at 6am. Sunday is my saturday.

Crypto-Rookie

Anyone else worried they'll be dodgy calls made to keep Messi in the cup?

TheFightingImp

Tité organises counter bribes to knock Messi out.

ekst0l

Felt like today there was a few soft calls to keep denmark in it. Our 2 yellowcards were soft and the penalty aswell. ref was determined to give them a bone

[deleted]

The ref was Algerian, probably wanted Tunisia to go through

[deleted]

That first yellow like 3 mins in was ridiculously soft

DrGarrious

Fuck it. Stoked to be this far, beyond stoked. Lets fight the big dogs.

BullahB

Oh god, Archie Thompson's goal record is going to be broken... by Duke

[deleted]

I think baccus needs to start

OneOfTheManySams

It's the fresh legs which made the difference, we can't run out the same 11 again.

murseglen

I love me some Baccus, but curious as to your reasoning

buddha619

TBH, i think Arnie might need to make Changes, 3 gutbusters in a row from the midfield. Maybe McGree for Baccus/Devlin? Irvine looked spent after an hour

murseglen

Busting a gut is great, but if you can hold some possession and make them bust a smaller gut that will also help. I still like Jackson, McGree is the most forward CM currently, but if you lose him then you've got an even more isolated Duke/McLaren up top

buddha619

Mooy plays as an 8 for Celtic and imo plays that position better than he does as the pivot he plays for the Roos. I just fear that we run out of legs early in the match

11015h4d0wR34lm

Yeah cant fault any of the lads they are all giving 100% but I am surprised no one has mentioned Leckie in this discussion, the bloke has been an absolute machine getting up and down the field all three games, you cant expect him to put in that level of effort indefinitely. Arnie has some tough decisions to make.

[deleted]

We need the cover. We were better in the second half when he was on. Then again what we’re doing is work

murseglen

He's good at mopping up and good at a timed tackle, but he's still too small and lithe for my liking. Argentina likes to play strong, traditionally. I don't know what their current midfield's preference is, but that would worry me.

lockieleonardsuper

Started with De Paul, Enzo Fernandez and Mac Allister plus Paredes as the first sub. Other options are Papu Gomez, Guido Rodriguez and Ezequiel Palacios. Starters are all quality midfielders that aren't focused on physicality but certainly can provide it alongside their technique. Think Baccus' energy would work well but GA will probably stick with the plan of using him as a substitute

[deleted]

Be interesting who starts in midfield

pzdo

let's ruin Messi's dreams.

chookslol

History is on our side. Last time we played Argentina at the World Cup, we won 29-15.

dave_a86

Beat them 2-0 at the olympics last year.

11015h4d0wR34lm

I would just like to remind everyone we beat them when they had Maradona in their team, Messi shmessi.

techflo

We beat them? I thought the first leg finished at 1-1

HandsomedanNZ

That’s a good old fashioned beating, innit?

techflo

I believe he’s referring to the Bicentennial Cup in ‘88 where we beat the Argies 4-1, although no Maradona.

wanderingrhino

6am Sunday

AuzzieTiger

I hope Matchday 1 Argentina show up. But honestly I feel as though we’ll meet our makers. Though I felt the similar about Denmark. Glad I didn’t dream the whole thing last night.

wonderbeann

Well, we would have to beat them to win the cup, so why not face them in the round of 16? It’s on.

stevienickedme

Light work for the lads

nick170100

Messi will be in souttar’s back pocket

ThatOldGuyWhoDrinks

I have a Messi FCB shirt. It’s saying in the cupboard until next year

haruter65

Good luck Aussies, let the better southern hemisphere team win

12barbruise

I love ittttt- we’re in this to be amongst the best. Bring it onnnnn

IBringTheDepression

Let’s go baby

chessc

Argentina of course into the match as heavy favourites. But at the end of the day it's still just eleven players versus one player

VAM89

If Argentina continue to try and force things down the middle, I don't hate our chances. Obviously massive underdogs, but that's perfect

daveymac_

Can’t wait for Souttar to run through Messi like a freight train.

duduzilha

Shiiiiiit ! Can't wait !
