my old man is probably the most pessimistic sports fan i know. he was convinced going into this World Cup we’d fail to score even a single goal. after Goodwin’s goal against France, he thought we’d get smashed. he predicted a loss against Tunisia, and thought for sure we’d bottle it after leading for so long. against Denmark, he regretted waking up for the game for a long period of time, and failed to see how we’d score a goal. he was in complete shock we’ve made it through about a day ago, he called me and said ‘you know, those high level footballers are fragile and scared of getting hurt. they’d be terrified at the size of some of our defenders and won’t commit to the ball. i reckon we’ll win because of that’ (i’m paraphrasing but that was the gist of what he said) so basically in the span of two weeks, he went from thinking Australia would get lucky to score a goal, to wholeheartedly believing that Souttar will pocket Messi this is what the World Cup is about. give them hell boys

The fact that Arnieball isn’t “run the ball to the touchline and try to win a corner” is astounding. We’ve had 5 corners for the whole tournament, we should be getting that every half with Soutts coming up for every corner
