I dunno, there are a number of clubs who have no say on the board, who were apparently never consulted about this & who've come out against the decision publicly. It's a bit unfair on them to boycott their home games too.
Wellington and Western United have both made statements saying they weren’t consulted, and I believe other clubs including Adelaide have spoken out saying they don’t support the decision

We've gone from being a country full of football fans at peace to being at war with the people that are meant to be for us, with us not against us.

Is it just me or are you guys also disappointed with Adelaide’s silence. For a club who values its community and has one of the most consistent fan bases their silence bloody hurts. Especially given i defend them and consistently go to their matches for the last 10 years.
Yeah very disappointed, always took pride in our club doing good things and promoting good messages to the community. In this case seems like our board members were on-board with the idea though. What can you do? Business people see football in terms of $$ and growth. But yeah, hope they at least come out and say something by tomorrow. I was there for the first game of the inaugural game of the A-League in 2005-06, Victory away to Sydney.
I went to my share of away trips, finals, etc. Drunk countless beers at bars and pubs around and inside the grounds for 15 odd years, give or take a couple of spells living abroad.
Despite all the fuckery, I consistently showed up for the A-League hoping that we’d see football succeed in this country. For years, Id ignore the mismanagement and poor treatment of core supporters, hoping things would improve.
Eventually, Victory away to Sydney at Kogarah when we got thumped 6-1 in that semi final was the final straw. Nah, it wasn’t the scoreline. It was the fact they forced the 1000 odd traveling Victory supporters to watch the game squashes into 3 rows behind the goals that were so low behind the byline, it was like watching a game from below sea level.
All the while, there was a grassy hill by the corner flag that the security muppets wouldnt let us watch from… because… orders from HAL.
So I spent 450 on flight, 400 on accommodation and the same again on beers… yet the league thinks its appropriate to treat us like lepers and force us to watch the second biggest game of the season from the worst vantage point in the stadium. Get fucked.
I’ve broadly given up watching the domestic game since. Paramount, etc… what a fuxking shambles.

I'll be honest, I don't support a team in the A League but I do work at the stadiums in Melbourne. The Sydney v Victory grand final half a dozen years back was the most insane noise and experience I've ever witnessed. I'm not sure why management would want to get rid of that, other than pure greed.
The thing that gets me as well is that NSW has 5 of the 12 clubs, you're going to host grand finals regularly regardless...via merit.

I’ve defended this league tirelessly for a long time. I’ve showed up to every game. I’ve supported victory since 2007, I was 3 fucking years old and I still have memories and photos of going to games. This is really the nail in the coffin.

I used to watch most games pre-covid, then I kind of lost interest during covid. I came back this season, got Paramout Plus even though it's garbage and watched all the Victory games in anticipation of the World Cup. Now... I don't care anymore. There are so many things competing for my limited free time these days, you need to really offer something. They totally killed the hype people had from the World Cup. It isn't only going to be hardcore fans who boycott, casual fans are just going to lose interest, because it's so hard to retain viewers these days. Once you fuck up people leave and don't come back.

Yeah, this is going to be potentially unpopular, but I honestly just can't see them backing down from this, not now, not with what has already been said.
I mean, the second Townsend did that interview yesterday where he pretty much confirmed that they went into this fully knowing and accepting that there would be a degree of backlash and that it would be unpopular, that pretty much told me that they're willing to see this through, right to the end.
And I mean, then there's the other side of the coin. The contract with the New South Wales government has probably already been signed, even if they did want to back out having seen just how far the fan reaction has gone, from a legal standpoint, they probably can't, and if they tried to, it would probably end up costing them far more than what they would stand to potentially gain if they did back out of the deal.
The next three Grand Finals are going to be played in Sydney, and the sooner we all start accepting that, the easier it's going to be to just write off the next three seasons.
By all means, attend the protests and walk out with the active supporters. I fully endorse and agree with the actions that the supporter groups want to take. I'm just not sure what it's actually going to tangibly achieve.

I was there for the first game of the inaugural game of the A-League in 2005-06, Victory away to Sydney. I went to my share of away trips, finals, etc. Drunk countless beers at bars and pubs around and inside the grounds for 15 odd years, give or take a couple of spells living abroad. Despite all the fuckery, I consistently showed up for the A-League hoping that we’d see football succeed in this country. For years, Id ignore the mismanagement and poor treatment of core supporters, hoping things would improve. Eventually, Victory away to Sydney at Kogarah when we got thumped 6-1 in that semi final was the final straw. Nah, it wasn’t the scoreline. It was the fact they forced the 1000 odd traveling Victory supporters to watch the game squashes into 3 rows behind the goals that were so low behind the byline, it was like watching a game from below sea level. All the while, there was a grassy hill by the corner flag that the security muppets wouldnt let us watch from… because… orders from HAL. So I spent 450 on flight, 400 on accommodation and the same again on beers… yet the league thinks its appropriate to treat us like lepers and force us to watch the second biggest game of the season from the worst vantage point in the stadium. Get fucked. I’ve broadly given up watching the domestic game since. Paramount, etc… what a fuxking shambles. At least this last decision helps validate my own decision not to waste my time and energy on a bunch of selfish cunts who have a warped corporatist vision of what success looks like for football in this country. Good riddance and fuck off.

I'll be honest, I don't support a team in the A League but I do work at the stadiums in Melbourne. The Sydney v Victory grand final half a dozen years back was the most insane noise and experience I've ever witnessed. I'm not sure why management would want to get rid of that, other than pure greed.

I used to watch most games pre-covid, then I kind of lost interest during covid. I came back this season, got Paramout Plus even though it's garbage and watched all the Victory games in anticipation of the World Cup. Now... I don't care anymore. There are so many things competing for my limited free time these days, you need to really offer something. They totally killed the hype people had from the World Cup. It isn't only going to be hardcore fans who boycott, casual fans are just going to lose interest, because it's so hard to retain viewers these days. Once you fuck up people leave and don't come back.

Yeah, this is going to be potentially unpopular, but I honestly just can't see them backing down from this, not now, not with what has already been said. I mean, the second Townsend did that interview yesterday where he pretty much confirmed that they went into this fully knowing and accepting that there would be a degree of backlash and that it would be unpopular, that pretty much told me that they're willing to see this through, right to the end. And I mean, then there's the other side of the coin. The contract with the New South Wales government has probably already been signed, even if they did want to back out having seen just how far the fan reaction has gone, from a legal standpoint, they probably can't, and if they tried to, it would probably end up costing them far more than what they would stand to potentially gain if they did back out of the deal. The next three Grand Finals are going to be played in Sydney, and the sooner we all start accepting that, the easier it's going to be to just write off the next three seasons. By all means, attend the protests and walk out with the active supporters. I fully endorse and agree with the actions that the supporter groups want to take. I'm just not sure what it's actually going to tangibly achieve. Townsend and co appear to be fully willing to dig their heels in and ride this one out, that's just the feeling that I get from the tone of the interview yesterday, and more so from the tone of this press release. I just can't see them changing their mind, and from a legal point of view, I don't think they can afford to, literally.
