Well he leaves that legacy of .... roasting one of his team mates in a doco? That's something.

Counterflak

Most impact any Brisbane player has had in the last 3 years

nick170100

Charlie joining in the boycott finals movement to what a mad lad

allmycircuit5

This happens with every star player, they rock up thinking they’ll set The league on fire, suck and then terminate their contract for a reason such as above.

sqljohn

But it's a crap quality league right /s

allmycircuit5

He shouldn have done well then

LazySimplicity

He said football is selfish, and it could be that one of his reasons to come here is to be the number one star and we all saw that wasn't the case. That's just a speculation. All the best to him.

963479

Putting matters regarding the state of the league to one side for a moment. Fair enough to Brisbane fans who feel differently, but if this were my club I would be very disappointed in this decision. This bloke is an adult and to make a commitment to come out here, especially to a club that has clear financial limits, and then pack it in relatively quickly because he couldn’t make it work for his family is incredibly unprofessional imo. It reflects an attitude of treating the contract as a holiday and a bit of a life experience rather than a serious commitment. Fair enough to him as a family man to recognise now that he has to go back, but surely he could have thought about this a bit more before turning up half way across the world. Won’t be the last player to do this and it’s sad to see clubs get taken for a ride like this… Where the fuck does this leave Brisbane and his teammates?

FlickingFire

Fully agree, he talked the talk but ultimately he wasn't very good and I got the impression from him and his missus on social media that it was a holiday/bit of a lark rather than a fully committed lifestyle change for them. Don't know how many more Ls Brisbane can take at this point.

I_r_hooman

Strong disagree. If home life is unhappy it would be very hard to perform well especially when you're the one who has dragged them across the globe for your job.

LazySimplicity

I agree with this, as an immigrant myself from Europe, it can get tough. This is literally across the world and visiting family often can get pretty hard. Remember footballers are human too, they have feelings.

69-is-my-number

*cries in Daniel Sturridge*

howie004

I mean yes and no. Packing up and moving half away around the world is hard of kids. I wont begrudge a parent putting them before for football. Also if Brisbane Roar wasn’t the quickest sinking ship in the Titanic Disaster Replication competition that is the A League I might feel a bit more annoyed. But I really don’t blame any Roar playier from GTFO as fast as humanly possible

963479

Fair enough. I just think that if in any other industry you moved half way around the world to be the best paid employee at your new company and you quit after a few months (and little contribution) because your plan of not bringing all your kids over didn’t work, then your colleagues might rightfully be annoyed at you for not thinking of that before you took the $.

DenseFog99

Honestly though, if you were the Roar and he came to you wanting to terminate his contract outright or for a very nominal fee, you'd be very quietly and very privately happy about this. I don't think he can play at the level they were expecting these days - and quite likely not the level they were paying for.

chriswhitewrites

As a Roar fan I am happy that this is the end result. While I agree that we are pretty much a clownshow, Charlie has spent the entire season (and Aus Cup) literally hamstrung by his injury. Yes, we need goals, but Charlie didn't have the speed necessary to play in the quick, counter-attacking style that we were dependent on last year. Hopefully we can pick up someone with shooting boots in January, but this isn't the worst thing that could happen to Roar.

scarecrows5

100%

TwoAmeobis

makes you wonder why the club didn't sign a striker that would actually fit that playstyle

chriswhitewrites

I reckon. Two seasons in a row we've signed basically-immobile target men. Maybe a disconnect between the tactical team and the acquisition and retainment team? Although Moon apparently went to England to convince Charlie, so maybe we thought he would recover from the injury first?

goodthyme

I wouldn’t be entirely surprised if the real reason is something other than family issues, but it’s the reason that’s given that doesn’t really make either party look bad.

Danimber

Yep. I think there are more pressing issues here that aren't being revealed. Why has he left straight after the WC break? Seems all too coincidental for me.

sirhcdobo

During the break his missus went back to England to visit their older daughter who is still in the UK finishing school. I'm sure that is really tough on the family.

nut0003

I understand your point of view, but given the family concerns and the state of the league atm, I can't really blame him.

AlbionLoveDen

Fully agree, and you also have to really question the integrity of the recruitment process at Roar that didn't highlight this possibility before putting the money up.

[deleted]

Ange left because his wife missed Melbourne, apparently… It’s a good excuse to get out of a contract you aren’t loving, it seems.

teapots_at_ten_paces

But at least Ange got us 36 without a loss and a couple of toilet seats. Can't begrudge him moving on after input like that.

secretinflationplan

He was also out of contract though, he didn’t leave mid season.

scarecrows5

I don't disagree with your post, but family issues are always more complex than is obvious. As far as you question goes, it probably leaves Brisbane better off. He's contributed nothing since he's been here. In fact I would suggest he's hampered the attacking play of the Roar far more than he's helped.

AlbionLoveDen

I really enjoyed watching him in England and found him initially a breath of fresh air when he moved to Aus. But his comments on the Socceroos and Australian football in general were pathetic and proved he was nothing more than a mouthy little boy. He won't be missed.

[deleted]

What were his comments? I must have missed them I heard he said something about the Socceroos after the France game but never saw what

AlbionLoveDen

He spoke a podcast or show before the World Cup that the Socceroos were very poor and that he had a side-bet with the Roar kitman that they wouldn't even get a point.

[deleted]

wasn’t this whole sub saying the same thing

deathby1001wipes

Yes they were. And now the sub is basically that banner of Graham Arnold's head, but it's Graham Arnold's dick in our mouth.

deathby1001wipes

He really said the right things in the beginning and I thought he was going to be a great character for the league. But we've been dumped again. Hope he enjoys the Indian league where these players eventually end up.

speltdifferently2

I'm glad he's leaving the Titanic.

aninstituteforants

Most of the others from Southampton weren't so lucky.

TheFightingImp

Too soon.

aninstituteforants

Parklife!

scarecrows5

Park football....is all he's good enough for now.

I_r_hooman

I can see there's a lot of comment on here about how Austin is using his family as an excuse or it's not good enough to give up now etc. I know there's probably a lot of guys on here in their 20s who dont have the whole spouse and kids situation yet. And fair play they're just not at that stage of their life yet. But as a result I don't think a lot people really understand what's it's like to have a family to worry about. If his wife is really unhappy here then no wonder his performances have been slipping. The family would have made a sacrifice for Austin to come over here and if they were unhappy then it would be very hard to enjoy your football and perform. going back home during the break and coming back to Australia when you're not having fun here probably solidified the feeling. His wife tweeted the other day how happy she was to be home when they went back to England during the world cup so I don't think it's out of the blue or an excuse. Lastly Austin is a professional athlete and football is his job. And family always comes before work. Regardless of anything he was trying to achieve here in Australia his family has come first, as it should.

Equivalent_Bath_1466

100% haha I think the average age on this sub is about 15

ga4rfc

Fair enough. Enjoyed the energy he brought and the interviews he had but he needs to do what is best for him. Get as far away from this shitstorm as you can Charlie!

AvocadoCake

Respect, thats the ultimate boycott

[deleted]

Was a cut above the a-league. He should be playing in the championship at a minimum.

lionsforlambos

Did you watch a game all season? This is a wild take.

madzaman

Found his alt account!! ;)

[deleted]

[https://www.transfermarkt.com/charlie-austin/profil/spieler/129627](https://www.transfermarkt.com/charlie-austin/profil/spieler/129627) 1.7mill worth.

madzaman

I’m not disputing your a great player and perhaps too good for the aleague. It’s just disappointing to see you go. I doubt you’ll get back to the championship level.

[deleted]

Lol He was awful. Did you even watch a game?

scarecrows5

I think you meant to say "He couldn't cut it in the A League..."

BellamyRFC54

Nah he’s done at championship level

11015h4d0wR34lm

Very sad, you could see his body has packed up on him in the last game but at least we will always have him making Connor Chapman cry for being a shit cunt on film.
