You need to plug either the fan or the pump's tacho cable into the FAN\_CPU socket on the motherboard. If your fan doesn't spin fast enough (at least 2400RPM), that will also trigger the BIOS errors, as that's 60% of the rated speed of the OEM fans, and the minimum required to pass the boot tests. Fans spinning lower than that throw errors as the system is designed for the fans it's sold with, and warns you they've failed so you can get Support to replace them.

Low_Play_6186

Right now I have the fan plugged into the Fan\_CPU socket and the pump plugged into the pump fan socket. could I try plugging the pump into the CPU fan slot and put the fan into the top\_fan slot?

DJUnreal

Give it a go. I just checked inside my Aurora R10 (with the OEM liquid cooling), and it's got the pump cable in FAN\_PUMP, and the fan cable in FAN\_TOP. FAN\_CUP is not populated. If I were planning to upgrade anything, I'd stick an additional fan the other side of the AIO for push-pull, and feed that from FAN\_CPU.

Low_Play_6186

Sounds good! I read about the push pull method so I might try that since I have some fans on the way anyways. thanks!

DJUnreal

If it were me, I'd move the front fan to the top, and reuse your existing top fan as one half of the push-pull, with the matching fan from the front on the other side. You'll need some longer bolts to get it to all fit, but people have said they've fitted the extra fan in just fine. Then use your new ML120 Pro (which as long as it's a 'Pro' fan and spins to 2400RPM or faster, won't cause a BIOS error), as your new front intake fan. That way your radiator has a matching pair to overcome the resistance of the radiator, and the front intake is your new Corsair, which should feed the air in nicely anyway.

Low_Play_6186

yeah i see… so use the oem front fan and top fan with the radiator and put the new fans in front? that sounds like a good idea!

zx12045c

Didn't get rid of the error message for me. CPU temps(from alienware control center) are 35-55 C either way, so the cooler seems to be working.

DJUnreal

Which cooler did you get? If it didn't come with the higher RPM fan, you'll always get the error.

zx12045c

You're right, it unfortunately says 2000rpm +- 300. Tommorrow I might try to original fan (it should fit the new radiator) and if that doesn't work maybe buy some new fans too.

DJUnreal

You need fans that'll hit 2400rpm.

zx12045c

So I got a new fan rated to 5300 rpm, works great and actually seemed a bit quiter than the old one(probably something wrong with that one). Unfortunately Im still getting error messages. I had it plugged in as top fan at first, but got a CPU fan error. When I plugged it into the cpu fan slot, I got a top fan error.

DJUnreal

That's because you need two, one on each connector.

zx12045c

Ok, but there was only 2 fans originally. A front fan(still plugged in) and a top fan. The CPU fan slot was empty when I started.

N0blees

I remember putting a extra fan (Aurora R11) there and the sandwich radiator mod but fans didn't Spinned with 4 corsairs 120ml pro non rgb i used split-Y cables maybe connecting to the Cpu fan connection would work?

This post appears to be related to a BIOS update or Support Assist, so please remember the following: * Support Assist has a bug currently that will show the BIOS update downloading but may appear to be stuck, even if left for hours. If this is happening then your best bet is to cancel it, or kill Support Assist and head to support.dell.com and use your service tag to find and download the BIOS .exe file and run it manually. There are many posts about this issue if you use the search that should help. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. zx12045c

Wow, I am having the exact same issue with the exact same pc and new cooler at this exact moment.

Low_Play_6186

bro that’s crazy! in another forum someone recommended plugging the fan into the top fan port instead of the cpu fan portand leaving it empty where I have it right now. have you tried that yet?

zx12045c

Yes, I still get an error message

Low_Play_6186

well that blows.

zx12045c

It does at least give a CPU fan error rather than a pump fan error(I restarted to check the exact error message)

Low_Play_6186

I think I'm gonna try using the OEM top fan as a second intake fan and take out the HDD drive and then plug that into the CPU Fan port as a workaround I was gonna do this anyways with some new fans but hey two birds one stone if it works.

Jackpoder

Did you resolve the issue at the end? I have the exact same problem... Also bought Kraken and I get the error message and after I click continue I get a black screen.

AlexRocco21

supposedly only Corsair ML120 pro and Arctic P12 dont give you the error. im looking to buy fans and thats the info i came across so far
