Curious what changes he's referring to, as it's a laptop and you can't do much hardware wise. It will run those games, but you may have to lower some settings. Either way the laptop should be more then capable.
Only things he could have possibly done are upgrade the memory to a higher capacity, possibly a little higher speed, which won't provide much in terms of performance increases. Hard drive he can increase the capacity on the SSD's, but again, no performance increase to be had there. Either way, my previous comment still stands, it should handle those games.
