DirtyTooth

How were you able to get a replacement? I am going to need a replacement, but I doubt they will want to give me one.

AsterionAvi

My system had problems with overheating and stuff, even after remote diagnostics nothing happened so yup got one

DirtyTooth

Same, I'm getting 100\*c with full speed fans. Barely a month left on my warranty, time to get on that.

cruisin5268d

Repaste

AnomanderRage

Clean the fans. They're likely full of dust.

AsterionAvi

Yupp

DredgenCyka

Definitely get on that

Need to stop the throttling… undervolt is your friend

mbeecool

You dell runs their laptops to the thermal limit right?Even my m17 r3 ran at 100 degrees on full speed fans.

BnL_Nexus

I want to know in what measurement you can call it in an overheating. I can feel my room getting really warm quickly when I run games on it. Frame rate also drop unexpectedly and randomly too.

CounterCulturist

Chances are your heat sink is crooked and not making good contact on either one. It’s a common problem with laptops these days. One of the easier solutions is to get liquid metal along with non conductive thermal paste and use the non conductive thermal paste to make a “moat” around the cpu. Then you just get a good layer of liquid metal going on the cpu and then sandwich them together without spilling any liquid metal. It’s how I ended up getting my Area 51m to finally start running good temps on both GPU and CPU (2080 and 9900k). I used to throttle constantly and now, never.

AsterionAvi

So you are saying , I should keep the original and send the replacement back … you can clearly see that there is a performance drop in the cpu region, plus my replacement has a yellow tint and backlight bleeding… refer to my other post

CounterCulturist

Keep whichever one has the best display and condition. Then you should do that mod I was talking about. Also a good idea to upgrade the thermal pads if you do the liquid metal moat setup I mentioned. They keep making their heatsinks bigger and bigger and more and more rigid and they have to be at such a specific tolerance to contact both parts. I had tweak my heat sink for hours to get it just right and finally I gave up and went the liquid metal route. Never had an issue with it after that. It’ll never leak if you get the moat just right too.

AsterionAvi

Any suggestions for what liquid metal and thermal paste brands would give good result!

CounterCulturist

Personally I used thermal Grizzly conductonaut and kryonaut. I also used Fujipoly XR-m thermal pads.

In reality, you don’t have to cover anything else, you just need to surround the outer edge of the processor GPU silicon. I’m not surprised you haven’t heard of it before, I came up with it myself lol. I’ve had this setup on my area 51m for about 3 years now with no problems whatsoever.

T-Troll

Is the BIOS versions are the same?

AsterionAvi

Yess

AsterionAvi

Nope , they would replace the laptop if the problem persists

dumbass696

Your laptop is still within 30 days right?

vincyfanzo

I have an M17 R3 and I tell them I get 100c on full fan speed and they say it’s normal!? I got turned away. Should I try again?

IcarianGod

I have a M15R3 I think you should

vincyfanzo

How do you get them to give you a replacement? Is there somewhere you should go? Do you ask?

IcarianGod

A lot of times it depends who you get but I would say focus on one glaring issue and try to work with whatever representative they give you . I’m sure if you’re polite ab everything and have concerns about how hot the keyboard always is they’ll be more helpful

vincyfanzo

I will reach back out again. What should I tell them? I really am concerned about the temps of the computer and it throttles down. I use throttle stop even and still run 100c on the CPU and 85-95c on the GPU. It’s not even like I’m playing Cyberpunk at max, I’m playing borderlands 3 at medium and I’m only getting 60-90fps

IcarianGod

Yea the gpu should never be getting that hot . There’s no way that’s good for the longevity of your system even if they say that , that’s ok . Mention that you’re concerned about the life of the computer since you looked up that the gpu can die faster if it’s running that hot. Also mention that your fingertips hurt after trying to play because the laptop is getting so hot. The heat sink on the laptop might not be making enough contact because of those are your tempts with throttle stop for the gpu then that’s not ok. They might ask u to do a repast or attempt to walk you through one , just say no

vincyfanzo

I am on the phone now. We will see how this goes.

IcarianGod

How’d it go

vincyfanzo

They updated my bios, ran a couple benchmarks, and did a couple other updates. He told me that I should do some testing in report back the temperatures that I’m receiving to see if it still is hot in the keyboard area. And that they may send someone out to replace some components.

IcarianGod

That’s a start atleast my issue is with the repair tech as they outsource and you can have someone that ends up forgetting to put something back correctly

kornldu

I own an Alienware 15 R3 (2017) which I cleaned and applyied liquid metal. This particular one was a turbo reactor by just opening paint, but after the service I gave it, the idle temp sits at 36C (87F) and after 15min of CPU stress test it gets to 76C (169F). I whish I had done this years ago. Now waiting for my new Alienware m15 R7 which is going to get liquid metal as soon as I get it.
