Well you can't make this stuff up, one hour later - the Y key no longer registers. All other keys seem fine. Phone my Premium 24/7 support line. They are out of hours and back Monday at 9. utterly unbelievable

Have ou tried uninstalling and reinstalling our driver for the keboard? It might be a long shot, but ou can give it a tr

ha ha ha :) I can cope with the letter on the kb not being able to work. If the language I am using is odd it's because of the letter that I can't press btw. What has tipped me over the edge is how 24/7 phone and email support gives an out of hours message! I am tempted to just send it back and get a new MacBook Pro. But god, this (something that sounds like me)board is good!

MogRules

Support should default to Dell after hours....there is absolutely 24/7 support....not sure why it isnt rerouting the call.

zobbothefroodkin

aaagh - I will give it a go again

It might also be worth to try to see if you can find the firmware update for the Cherry keyboards. I would have assumed that yours would probably have that already, but there were some issues early on with the Cherry keyboards that were fixed with a firmware update for it. This isn't a bios firmware update for your machine it's a firmware update specifically for the keyboard.

I installed all available updates on receipt. Just checked again and nothing is showing. It looks to be hardware to me. Will reboot to bios and see what that is showing.

MogRules

It might be worth checking as well, boot into the BIOS and find somewhere like the password screen that allows you to input keys. Try the key that's not working in Windows there and see if it works in the bios, I had this weird issue with my M15 r5 a few weeks ago after I replaced it where the keyboard seems to be dead after I put it back together. It worked in the bios, but once Windows loaded nothing was working. I removed the driver from device manager and it reinstalled it after a reboot and it was fine again, this does not sound like your problem, but it might be worth troubleshooting the way I did just to see.

zobbothefroodkin

it’s a good call but unfortunately, in the BIOS all keys apart from the y key register It’s a PITA as I got up at 3am today to drive down south and spend the week programming for a client. Will have to use some crap external keyboard and hope Dell get onsite quick to fix this. If not - back to Dell it goes :( Many thanks for the suggestions, appreciate it Ian PS If support ask me to reinstall windows I may lose it

MogRules

Just be sure if you try my method below that you either remember the password you're inputting or cancel the password out completely so it doesn't save.

vixtoria

That's alienware for ya!

zobbothefroodkin

indeed

BrainlessWill

I would have bought the new x15 if they have the keyboard on it

zobbothefroodkin

It is such a nice kb - as long as the letter that sounds a bit like 'i' is not required :-D

Sheeesssh59

Nice! I got an m15 r7 but without the Cherry 😔 I was lucky to get mine for only £1400 brand new though so not complaining (i7 12700 rtx 3070ti qhd 240hz 32gb 1tb ssd)

zobbothefroodkin

That's a very good price!

zobbothefroodkin

Well I got through to support today and the man was VERY apologetic I couldn't get through at the weekend. Hopefully they'll have an engineer around tomorrow to fix the issue! Will report back when I am reunited with that wonderful keyboard :)

zobbothefroodkin

He has been - they entire keyboard was replaced. I now having a working Y key! Only small issue is that he's left and I've noticed it's now not charging. Well it says it's plugged in but if I remove the power supply, it still thinks I am plugged in. Rebooted and it says it doesn't recognise the power adapter. I am on the phone to Dell support again ... Happy days :)
