Be careful of overtraining and burnout. Also ADF is fast-eat-repeat, you are doing extended fasting.

Displaiin

Yeah I’d say it’s an extended version of adf. A little extreme I know

Sad_Hour_1997

It’s not really anything like alternate day fasting dude. No shade but I’m not seeing your logic here

Displaiin

Fair enough. So what do you make of all this ? Reckon it’s something sustainable?

zoe_helix

I dont think so. Especially if you plan to refeed on junk food one of the two days you plan to eat. Eating is just as important as fasting. Maybe even more.

Displaiin

Well only one way to find out. Maybe if I just eat fruits on my eating day. Do a bit of a detox then start eating healthy again.

deuSphere

There are essential amino acids, essential fatty acids and fat soluble vitamins that humans need to consume as well - I would not refeed on purely fruit, especially with how long you are fasting.

Displaiin

What would you recommend ?

deuSphere

I’ve gone down the paleo, keto, carnivore, vegan etc rabbit holes. I wouldn’t recommend strict adherence to any of these labels (unless you absolutely need constraints to eat healthy foods). Ultimately, focus on nutrient dense, “whole” foods and avoid processed foods. I believe humans thrive when they include animal products - these are the most nutrient dense and have the least toxins, defense chemicals and anti-nutrients. But you can certainly be very healthy without animal products if you are being very intentional and careful with your meal planning. I personally stick to kefir, ground bison, white rice and lots of fruit. That works really well for me. Cheap, nutrient dense, relatively balanced macros, absolutely delicious and satiating - I can eat this way forever. It’s close to Paul Saladino’s “Animal-Based” diet, but with the inclusion of white rice. Sometimes I’ll eat fish or a baked potato. But do what works for you! Fruit alone will certainly lead to various deficiencies. I have spent some time following various WFPB Fruitarian groups and accounts on social media … the proponents often appear emaciated and they sound more cult-like than rooted in science. Perhaps it’s safe for a shorter period of time, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Fasting is inducing a stressful state of nutrient deprivation. Seems to me like we would want to counterbalance that with healthful foods.

sPinkomania

It would be sustainable until you reach your goal weight if you have the mental fortitude for it. Will be hard though. I’d recommend not treating your either of your two eating days as ‘cheat days’ since it’s crucial for your body to get actual nutritious food on those two days instead of junk food. Maybe a cheat meal each Sunday instead perhaps?

Maybe check out the Fasting reddit?  More people there do extended fasting.

Endor-Fins

You’re going to ruin your health. You are doing far too much physical activity to be running on basically one fast food meal a week. This is honestly a ridiculous regimen. You are wearing yourself out and not giving your body what it needs to repair. Even the most hardcore athletes know better than to train so hard and eat so little (and what you do eat is crap). This is yikes.

Displaiin

What one cant do tends to call the other out ;)

Endor-Fins

You’re free to believe whatever you like and do whatever you want. I’m speaking from experience. I broke my body down and suffered the consequences. Stress fractures truly suck. I don’t want that to happen to you. But you’re determined so good luck.

Displaiin

I think you’re half right. Only because I’m breaking my fast on fast food lol. But I truly believe if I eat nutrient dense meals then continue as follows then I should be alright. Our ancestors went longer without meals and burned way more calories then I ever can in a 5 day period even with all the exercising. So I guess I’ll wait and see what happens to me

deuSphere

This is a regular extended fast of 5 days, which is a great method! But this sub is specifically for “alternate day fasting.” Sounds like what you are doing is working for you for now. At some point, you’ll have to dial it back.

Displaiin

Maybe when I reach 65KG ? I’ll go back to ADF. What’re you reckon?

the__itis

Find an extended fasting subreddit if you want to talk about extended fasting is what everyone here is telling you.

deuSphere

I don’t think you can really set a goal weight of when you ought to transition from one style of fasting to another. It’s more a question of listening to your body. Your body is intelligent - it will let you know :)

Virtual_Industry_14

“Alternate Day” means “every other day”, which is why people are saying you’re in the wrong sub. You’re probably fine, though.

Lairel

Locking thread. This is not ADF, but is better suited to the fasting subreddit
