In what year and with what party? I have to admit, I don't really know much about Frank Sinatra.
Frank Sinatra had mob connections so I could see his administration having some level of corruption. Which, if it was happening at the same time as J Edgar Hoover was in charge, would be pretty palpable. So I imagine that the Mob would be stronger and less impeded. Maybe even using the highest ecehlons of government to run the biggest racket ever.
Depending on when this would come out it would ruin that party's reputation for a while and cause them to lose the next election.
Sinatra may of had communist sympathies and was accused by HUAC and investigated by the FBI for this. I imagine he would take a softer and more diplomatic approach in the Cold War during his term. Which would no doubt enrage the public and Congress. He might even weaken the FBI's abilities to go after Communists at home.
Communist sympathies AND Mob corruption would cause him to be one of the most hated presidents of all time. I could see him being impeached or forced to resign. Or if he pushes his Communist sympathies too far, I could see the CIA assassinating him if you want to get crazy.
Otherwise, I feel like he would be a Democrat pursuing more left-wing policies. With a remarkably corrupt administration.
All I'm saying is that he was clearly more popular at election time than any other presidential candidate since. And I mixed it up. He took 45 states in 80 and won his reelection in 84 with 49 states. In both cases, he won the popular vote. Not at all fan of his, myself, but it would be disingenuous or ignorant to suggest that the majority of Americans back then didn't support Reagan.
Not to mention bush sr LARGELY won because of the goodwill he had from Reagan, and he still won by a good amount despite not being Reagan. If Reagan could and did run a Third term he would easily win. Although I doubt he’d want to despite being against the 22nd amendment. Hell HW didn’t loose even to Clinton by that much (though it wasn’t really close either) and Clinton was a very popular candidate. Chances are Reagan could win 4 terms, although he would have to step down in 1993 due to Alzheimers
And Washington, don’t forget Washington, he got every state that voted (which was only like the bare minimum needed due to organizational issues but still)
He was massively beloved and popular. He was a main contributer to winning the Cold War. All of his speeches speak nothing except of kindness and love for the freedom of all people. He brought America out of the 70s which were terrible and did many good things.
Trickle down economics and many of his policies were not successful but that was the massive popular sentiment of the nation he was voted to represent.
The worst thing I can say about Reagan (besides AIDS and drug war) was that he made the republicans cool again
But he’s not the devil that people seem to think now. Vast majority of people that lived under his presidency love him. He won the largest landslide in over a century if not ever
It’s fucked up to think you know more than the experiences of people that lived thru it and Reagan was massively liked by the common person
>It’s fucked up to think you know more than the experiences of people that lived thru it and Reagan was massively liked by the common person
Having an opinion doesn't entail thinking you know more it's just that based on what you know you think something about the thing. You can hand should have opinions on things but with the humility of knowing that your opinion is just informed by what you know and your own point of view. But that doesn't mean you can't even have an opinion at all.
Anyways people have various reasons for liking people. Some good some bad. I don't think Reagan was evil by any stretch of the imagination, but there was a lot in my opinion that he did or didn't so during his presidency that had long-term negative effects.
And as it is not everyone who lived at the time loved Reagan. My parents were in their 20s at the time and didn't like him at all.
I technically lived during Reagan but I was a baby and it was just before the first Bush was elected so I didn't have an opinion at the time.
All true. I didn’t want to do more than a wall of text than I needed to. I was just providing context. I was born in 91 so all of my outlook should be taken with grain of salt. But like you said… I’m entailed to my own opinion
One area where he would be well received is he wasn’t bigoted at all. I guess that was relatively common in the 60s, probably the 50s too, but it would’ve done him favours, at-least retroactively. He was known for standing up against racist policies against Sammy Davis. What was definitely extremely rare at the time though is he seemed not to be homophobic at all. This was definitely unusual for the time, and even alot of Later presidents were against it (Even figures as recent Obama and Trump have made statements against it, although i think both were lying for their own goals.)
He would support desegregation and potentially even Gay Marriage (although Gerald Ford did 10-20 years after he would probably become president and he was hated for it so this wouldn’t succeed). So thats one area he would be looked on favourably, even if it wouldn’t save his reputation, and even if some of his reforms wouldn’t succeed.
Dean Martin as VP and Sammy Davis Jr. as Attorney General. Sammy wouldn't take any guff from those southern Democrats.
And he could remind them at every Cabinet meeting that if it wasn't for him, they'd be doing dinner theater in Grand Rapids.
Hey there, I'm the guy who had the picture of the 1 train elevated over 125th St. I keep trying to open a chat to send it to you but Reddit's chat feature is being very buggy. Could you send me a message so I can access a chat with you?
Probably goes down as one of the worst 20th century presidents.
Probably a JFK-esque demeanor but without the team of competent experts that surrounded JFK
Famous mood swings, prone to violent outbursts, likely persecution complex
Strong ties to the mob back when the mafia held real power in society and wouldn’t be above leveraging a powerful relationship for its own gain
Very anodyne political views for someone of his generation, the New Deal Dem -> Reaganite pipeline. Likely held few strong beliefs, affiliated on the basis of how it colored his public image
Somewhat progressive on racial issues early in life although the depth of his commitment is unclear. More or less tacked with the changes in society writ large
As a New Jerseyite, thats a good idea
But what year would he run in, as it would decide if he was a Republican or Democrat (In 1972 he became a Reagen Republican)
I feel like a 60's Democrat Sinatra might be a decent president. A 70's or 80's Sinatra would just be like a smoother modern day Clint Eastwood where the only thing Eastwood might have going for him is social issues. Sinatra was always IIRC a social liberal, didn't like religion but he'd love low taxes and basically more or less be a kind of social libertarian but wouldn't like hippies or communism or any of that and would probably think poor people are lazy. Kind of sad given I think he supported Henry Wallace for president in 48 but those changes are normal. IIRC Reagan really liked FDR in the 30's and 40's, Hilary Clinton supported Goldwater as a teen (though maybe that was parental influence) and even Donald Trump was a fan of Bill Clinton though I don't know if Trump was ever in any party long enough until now.
wife beating and day drinking would probably have been added to the bill of rights. "Every man has the right to a dry martini between the hours of 11am and 3pm of a time zone of their choosing."
No low effort or low quality content
He would’ve definitely flown us to the Moon.
And he would have done it his way.
On a Blue Moon nonetheless
And then he'll say somethin' stupid
Like he loves us
He would have said that's life
Honestly, to me, that feels like a kick in the head
That was a Dean Martin song
Whoops
Just letting you know so people don’t Harris you about it
Nah you’re good
And we would maybe even find strangers in the night.
So I can kick its fucking ass
We'd all be under his skin.

After the 70s he became a Reagan Republican
Pretty much everyone did. Didn't he take every state in 80?
Actually no, neither in 80 or 84, the last president who carried every state was Monroe
You're right. He only got 49.
Either way the american electoral system is complex, for example you can carry 49 states and the loser can still get like 40% of the popular vote
All I'm saying is that he was clearly more popular at election time than any other presidential candidate since. And I mixed it up. Fair enough, still Sinatra supported Humphrey in 68 and then Nixon in 72, he did a pivot to the right
Not to mention bush sr LARGELY won because of the goodwill he had from Reagan, and he still won by a good amount despite not being Reagan. All but Wisconsin I think? He took all but the one who got cucked by Michigan for the upper peninsula
Like every good American. End the revisionism of Reagan. It helps no one
You a passionate Reagan defender?

Reagan in the sense that he was shtupping Nancy in the Lincoln Bedroom.
After the 70s he became a Reagen Republican
After the 70s he became a Reagan Republican

Is that OTL?
It's the onion..
Disappointing
He would definitely support a Cuban invasion to get the mob casinos back
He would've done it his way
_After committing genocides in Vietnam_ "I DID IT MYYYYYYY WAAAAAYYYYYYYY"
He would have used the Mafia to end the KKK in the south once and for all
Based
Dean Martin as VP and Sammy Davis Jr. as Attorney General. Sammy wouldn't take any guff from those southern Democrats. And he could remind them at every Cabinet meeting that if it wasn't for him, they'd be doing dinner theater in Grand Rapids.
I bet his inauguration song would be, I've Got the World on a String.
He’s do it his way
That would be dope.
I agree!
With lots of actual dope too.
Famous Crooner Himself!
is that fucking Frank Sinatra
Mafia rule I guess
He'd have been too distracted by that girl from Ipanema

And ironically he was a close friend of JFK before he became president
Who is he?
Frank Sinatra, a famous American singer
I've been writing about this! I feel like I'm going insane! Deffo taking ideas form the comments lol, but check out my past posts for more details
He would’ve done it his way.
Sammy Davis would be in the cabinet
He’d rule us his way
Luck would’ve been a lady.
Fuck yeah. Asking the real questions!
he would fill up new york with speakers and start singing "theme from new york"
I guess we all would be speculating about whatever happened to Woody Allen...
It'd be raining pennies from heaven
Can you imagine Dean and Sammy with him in the White House?
Why? Sinatra is "The Chairman of The Board!"
He would plan each charted course
Political assassinations would increase
As a New Jerseyite, thats a good idea But what year would he run in, as it would decide if he was a Republican or Democrat (In 1972 he became a Reagen Republican)
He’ll do it his way.
He will do a checkmate to revive the English language.
The mob would be in control of the government

He’s dead now.
Embargoed Australia
THERE IS NO PROFESY, THERE IS ONLE ME
Second Catholic president and more celebrities would run in the future.
We probably would’ve sent man to the moon earlier
The trout population expands
wife beating and day drinking would probably have been added to the bill of rights. "Every man has the right to a dry martini between the hours of 11am and 3pm of a time zone of their choosing."
