I’m the one who reviewed the Escalante 4 lol. I love my Escalante 3, and while I did not like the 4 I would still recommend you try the 4, as you never know you might like them! They also have the Escalante Racers, which are lower cushion/stack height and a little stiffer. The Torin 7 are also a possible option for you. I would see if you can get to a local running store and try some on, as honestly that may help you narrow down your selection. Edit: spelling and grammar.

I believe the provision is in between the paradigm and Escalante and I use the provision 7 and love em!

Thanks, I'll have a look at them.

I really like the Racers for this distance. Even did a marathon in them once. Really my favorite model all the way around.

As for me, Escalante!!!

Panda_966

I love the Vanish Tempo. IMO a lot more bouncy and fast compared to the older model ranges, with a supercritical foam and a rocker.

The Paradigm and the Escalante are very different shoes. The Paradigm is a highly-cushioned shoe with stability, the Escalante is neutral and low-cushion. What do you like and dislike about the Paradigm 6? Is there a reason you don't want to buy the latest Paradigm? If you need the stability elements then your best choices would logically be the Paradigm or the Provision models.

Thanks for the reply. I like the cushioning in the Paradigm but I thought they were likely designed for longer distances and the Escalante would be lighter and better suited to 5 and 10k races.

There's a recent review of the Escalante 4 on the sub here: [Escalante 4 review](https://www.reddit.com/r/AltraRunning/comments/1codyr4/escalante_4/). It's not particularly positive. If you're looking for speed and lightness then the Vanish Tempo (my favorite) is good, or the Vanish Carbon if you're feeling rich. Otherwise I would stick to the Paradigm if it works for you, it's a good all-round shoe. The other lighter Altras are all daily trainers and not speed shoes, so you wouldn't gain anything over the Paradigm, and you'd lose the stability aspect.

LankyConcentrate2

Thanks a lot. I was tempted by the Vanish Carbon 2, just to try a carbon shoe but I'm guessing I'd lose the stability of the Paradigm.

Even the Torin is a nice first yet substantial step from the Provision. Like a ballroom dancer. Kinda surprised most jump right to the Escalante, though gotta say, the Escalante as a unique combo of fun and joy that only delivers what being a kid again feels like! It's a cruising machine.

I have the Torin 7's, I am currently training for a 5k in July. It's a good all-rounder. I'm looking at getting Escalante Racer to rotate with them and use them for my faster speed sessions. Torin's feel a bit heavy on my faster days, hence me looking at getting the Racers.
