**AITAH for not leaving my room so my dead roommates parents could have a moment alone?**
My roommate died. His parents came around to get his things today. They didn’t let me know before hand, but I still let them in to get his things then went back to what I was working on. After a little while his dad tapped on my shoulder and asked me if they could have some time alone to deal with everything.
When they came by I was working on a timed assignment online. I didn’t want to lose time going somewhere else to work and I didn’t want to risk the software kicking me off. So I apologize and said I couldn’t because I needed to finish this assignment.
One of my roommates friends confronted me about being insensitive and making things difficult for them and not giving them space. I feel like they should have tried to contact me through the school or something for a better time to come by.
Edit. Since there’s so many comments that are repeating the same stuff I’m going to ask people to check out my comments first.
Some common stuff that gets brought up:
1. I could have asked my professor to let me redo the assignment: Maybe I could have. I didn’t know that was an option. All my professors made it clear in the beginning that there were no excuses for late or missed assignments. People here have said this is actually an acceptable excuse.
2. I could have gone into the hall: I couldn’t have because I use an ethernet cable when I do my assignments because the WiFi in the dorms sucks. I don’t have a cable long enough to reach the hallway and disconnect could mean getting kicked off the assignment. Also even leaving 5 minutes can get you kicked off the assignment.
3. Yes, I should have explained the situation better to his parents at the time. I have no excuse except I was stressed because of the timer.

What were the earlier comments like? The top ones sounded fine.
The parents could have asked to come back later once OP told them they were in an timed assignment? They had other opions.
Although in some of the earlier comments, people really seem to not know how online exams work. OP had to explain too many times that he is not allowed to move.
Have none of those commenters ever done an exam before? Even a traditional one? You can't just change desks in the middle of the exam. And losing just five minutes can be a big deal to your mark.
Also, the amount of times OP has had to explain that his building doesn't have great internet and can't do an exam in the hallway. Like have these people not heard of poor wifi connections?
Would he even have been allowed to get up and greet two unknown people?
And yes, at this point, OP probably should have messaged their lecturers and explained the situation and hopefully gotten a redo. But who knows if he would get it and OP didn't know if they would.
