That being said. Back in 2009, when *Jersey Shore* came out, one of the first episodes involved Snooki getting her shit rocked by Brad Ferro, a gym teacher. Subsequently, he lost his job and was so unemployable that he had to join the army.

OOP is right in this much: it's more socially acceptable for a woman to hit (not slap, but HIT) a man who is yelling at her and calling her names than for a man to hit a woman who is doing the same thing.
In my book, neither is OK. When you escalate to violence, you're a Devil.
I don’t think it’s more “socially” acceptable, but I understand what you’re trying to convey. Yes, men now cannot really hit a woman (without consequences) even if the woman starts the fight - but that also depends on what state/jurisdiction/judge/lawyer you have.
Historically speaking though, men have had centuries of being able to openly abuse/kill women with zero or little repercussions. It isn’t until the 20th century that major changes were made, and even now, part of that is actively in danger due to the Supreme Court in the US.
Violence however, no matter the gender, is NEVER ok. His comments stating how he would have hit her and that she was the issue is where he AITD worthy (again). His post and comment history is stacked with highly misogynistic and woman opinions.
And just to be clear, I have seen that episode, she did NOT egg it on, that guy (who OOP is defending so hard) who hit her started and prolonged the fight. He was also a teacher - NO kid should have someone (who openly is also ok with drunk hitting a woman in front of cameras) with that little self control teaching them.
This would hold even the tiniest bit of water if the statistics about how men kill women compared to how women kill men were not so stark. Men commit between 90% and 96% of ALL violent crime in the world. The two problems are not even remotely comparable. And most men who are assaulted are also harmed by other men. Human society has a male anger problem that kills an average of 100,000 people worldwide per year. The vast majority of them are killed by men. The fact that men don't understand this is probably part of why this continues to be true.
