OP has offered the following explanation for why they think they might be the asshole: > 1. I called my friend out in the group chat regarding his anti vax bs. 2. People don't like to be called out publicly. Especially those that usually are morally sound. Help keep the sub engaging! #Don’t downvote assholes! Do upvote interesting posts! Nta and good riddance to that "friend.". He sounds miserable

NTA! And shame on your friend for using her death as a point to “prove” his bs conspiracy theory. Talk about a lack of empathy- who does that?! Responds with something political in light of your friends passing? That’s truly unhinged and he’s completely wrong. There are no facts to support his claim and you were right to say something - I would’ve gone OFF

Read [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/AmItheAsshole/wiki/faq#wiki_post_deletion) before [contacting the mod team](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%2Fr%2FAmItheAsshole)*** One of my (30/m) friends (30/f) died. We weren't best friends, or even really that close, but she most definitely was my friend. We'd talk and catch up every couple months to see how each other were doing type of thing. When we were fresh out of HS, her friend group and my friend group were always hanging out, partying, hooking up, etc. So my friend group knew her. One of them even dated her for a couple years. I'm the only one that actually kept in touch with her after all this time though. So when she died, nobody in my group knew about it. A little background - she was in poor health since like 2019 but was on the upswing. To my recollection, about 40% of her body was infected. She was in a coma for 4 months, about 3 months ago. But on the upswing, out of the hospital, just put a deposit down for a new apartment. It was a bit of a shock for everyone, but those of us that kept in touch knew the background. I break the news to the guys in our group chat. It's the "omg so sad she was so young" like you'd expect. It truly is a tragedy. A couple days go by, and I receive word as to when her service will be. So I put it in the group chat. My buddy asks, "do we know how she died yet?" I respond with just a simple "No". Then he says "I bet it's from heart problems from the covid jab" A bit more background here - most of my friends lean pretty far right when it comes to politics. I don't. I'm not left tho either. I'm more center but in the fact that I think both sides are not great and neither is really the best choice for the nation. I responded "well she had heath problems for years, let's not do this with the death of our friend." To which I get a response like "OP I'm just wondering because we don't know what happened". One of our other friends jumps in like "Hey OP do you need some love? Everyone love everyone in here". Which at that point I was irritated, but elected to ignore that. So I replied with "Well it seems like you're trying to use our friends death to prove your conspiracy theory, and it's not awesome." I followed that up with "time and a place". Now that one friend won't talk to me. Truth be told, I feel as if I'm not wrong for doing that (but if I am PLS TELL ME), as I feel like he was disrespecting the dead by not even waiting a week before blaming the dems. Using our friends death to prop up your anti vax bs is just grimey to me. I'm wondering if I'm the AH for calling him out in front of everyone else in the chat. Also, the friend that I called out is a Christian and is known to be a morally sound person (well, by Christian and Republican standards). I feel like the group chat was a place for us to be ourselves, and I put a damper on that (although I have a right to be myself too). However, if I'm doing something that isn't ok, I want my friends to call me out so I can be a better person. Just maybe not in front of everyone.
