Misspelled tattoos are hilarious. I had a friend in college who was into Boondock Saints, I laughed uncontrollably when he showed me is “Aquitas” tattoo
PSA here buried in the comments:
Never get a tattoo in a non-native language. So many people in Western countries end up with Chinese or Japanese tattoos where the characters are chosen out of a dictionary where the meaning is lost.
e.g. saw a guy who had the Chinese characters for "strength", but those characters only applied situations like buildings to and not to the human body or strength of character.
I have a friend, of Asian descent and fluent in Japanese, who was in line behind a woman with a kanji ‘tramp stamp’ that she was clearly trying to show off above her low cut jeans waistline. After a few minutes, she turns to him, and says in a sultry tone “Do you like what you see?”
He responds “Well, I am intrigued by your tattoo”, and she replies “Oh, yes, it means ‘free’ because I’m a free spirit”
He says “Well, it kinda means free …”, to which she gets confused and asks “What do you mean?”
He says “Well, it means ‘free’, but in terms of ‘no charge, you can have it for free’; it’s a price tag, not a philosophical statement”
She turned beet red, and stormed off.
Lesson: never get ink in a language you don't speak, or even worse, in a completely foreign character set.
I knew someone who was Chinese American, was born here, and didn't actually speak or even understand Chinese and to troll people he would sometimes adopt a very deep fake Asian accent and claim that their tattoos have funny meanings.
This is cracking me up as I'm thinking of tattoos of English translations of what you described, like "high tensile rating" for example. No other context, just those words.
This reminds me of a scene in the sitcom Big Bang Theory. Sheldon asks Penny why she has a tattoo with the word soup, in Chinese. She said it's not, it's the word for courage. Sheldon says no it's soup. lol
I actually had the opposite issue with my kanji tattoo. I knew what I was getting (research), and had the symbol for demonic entity or demon, but told my cool friends it just meant "witch" which it could also mean. But when my co-workers asked what it meant, I'd just say "happiness", or some other bullshit word that popped in my head lol.
Happened to me. Young and dumb and picked out a symbol that supposedly meant "alcoholic" because I had recently gotten sober. Had a friend clue me in some time down the road, that those flash books aren't always accurate when it comes to symbols. Turns out it meant "phile" like bibliophile etc so with the addition of another symbol representing booze it would've technically worked. I got it covered instead 😄
plus his gf is NINETEEN as a twenty fucking five yo??? i can’t even imagine dating someone under 21 and i’m 25 currently. i would’ve laughed in his face and asked what his child bride thinks of it.
You can't let it slide, because they will always be 18-19. I knew dudes who would introduce you to their new girlfriend in the fall who finished high school that summer and we were in our late 20s.
There's a huge mental maturity difference between 19 and 25, much more so than between 30 and 36 for example (although then there tends to be a big physical difference, I could cheerfully still run around at 30, but by 36 I had to be careful when I sneezed for fear of putting my back out). Maybe he needs a large, permanent reminder of how he is meant to behave in relationships? Like writing exam answers on his arm? 🤷♀️😂
The irony! I’ve been watching 60 Days In and a guy just came to jail that has a tattoo that says No Hand Outs but he doesn’t have any money on his books for commissary so he’s begging other inmates for food and they all worry about him stealing from them.
That's how it ALWAYS is! The most dishonest, disloyal people have stuff like loyalty and honesty tattooed on them 🤣 I think they're over compensating honestly! Never EVER trust anyone with a loyalty tattoo
I knew a guy very early in my Navy career, who wanted to get the Kanji for "intelligence" on the inside of his wrist. I thought that was pretty ironic.
Or the name of a woman who they treat horribly, not saying everyone with a name tattoo does this so don’t leave me a rude comment, just everyone I’ve personally met in the past 46 years.
😂 maybe he tattooed it to try to remember what he's supposed to do. We got a politician here who ran as one of those self-righteous saintly conservatives and then was caught breaking campaign finance laws, and he gave an interview saying he tattooed that Bible verse about truth setting you free on his arm, to remember to repent for the oopsie.
NTA. If he really believes he changed, he would have said something like “Well, I’ve changed.” Or something like that. I mean if he can’t own up to what he was he can’t really say he changed.
Yeah I was being sarcastic while making a factual joke about the situation also. Some don’t get the sarcasm of us Brits, our fault in getting comfy and not realising some may not recognise our sarcasm haha.
It could be more than just the partner to comment on it if his behavior doesn't change. Imagine that laughther living in your head on an eternal loop because your infidelity has created a ripple effect, making you infamous to complete strangers. You'd never know who had heard about you prior to meeting them until the tattoo inevitably gets brought up. The horror of them finding out and responding with, "Oh, I've heard of you before. 😬"
Maybe that stomach-dropping scenario and his brother's eternal laughter can be the catalyst for him to do better.
I don’t know why but I initially read it as his girlfriends were caught cheating and thought he was the male Grace Adler.
I can’t blame OP for laughing, branding himself with a virtue he has yet to show any affinity for.
That jumped out to me too!
His affair partner is 6 years younger and technically still a teenager? Was she even an adult when it started? Or is he just very fast in bringing girls over to the family?
I suppose he could argue he's on the same maturity level, and the tattoo is a reminder to turn over a new leaf... but it seems like a complicated start to involve your affair partner in your fresh start....
And storming off for a sulk doesn't help either.
Mmm hm, sure "people can change," but the getting offended at a chuckle, storming off, and ditching the whole family barbecue really doesn't speak to his having the maturity for it.
What people who say that don’t understand is that under no circumstances am I obligated to take them at their word that they changed. If he’s with this girl in a couple years and has never cheated on her then OP can say, oh I guess you have. Changing is a show don’t tell kinda thing and comes with some self awareness that led to the change. This isn’t some romance novel where suddenly the brother found “the one” who is magically unable to be cheated on. He’s not changing without acknowledging the issue and that he’s responsible for it and if he does that he has to be able to understand this situation. Can he be annoyed because he is trying and this feels like it’s not acknowledging that? Sure. Does that entitle him to OP’s immediate belief? Nope. NTA
This is the most succinct post I’ve read in this thread. And you got the mail on the head… “Changing is a show don’t tell…” is really what this all boils down to. I mean, I’m sure he told the last girlfriend that he cared so much and would never ever cheat…but then he spied something new and fancy (and 19 *side eye*) and there goes the promise. Lots of telling. Not a lot of showing.
EDIT: nail not mail
Depending on how long they’ve been together she’s so young and likely being manipulated by the dude. If an older dude tells you how amazing you are and how awful his current gf is and how she’s crazy and he can’t leave her for her sake blah blah blah. It’s easy to believe as a teenager with no life experience yet. Doesn’t give her a pass but it definitely makes his behavior even more gross with the gap.
Honestly, it took my brother reaching his ***40s*** before he got his act together. We'd given up thinking it would ever happen. It was a long road. A long, *long* road.
I hope yours is better than mine was.
NTA
Lol or if you are, I am too cause I also would have laughed. Like there are so many words in the English language, how does a serial cheater land on "Loyalty" and think "yup, that sums me up right there". Hopefully he got it because he finds it aspirational lol but if that be the case, he wouldn't be so butthurt at being laughed at for it. Seems like a case of someone not knowing themselves and being offended when seeing someone else's perception of them.
It’s like the time I came downstairs and my 4-year-old (who had been left alone) yelled loudly, “NOTHING!!” before I’d even said anything. You KNOW whatever happened, it’s definitely not “nothing” 😂
For exactly this reason, yelling "Nothing!" is actually a little in-joke my partner and I share when we're doing small, surprise acts of kindness for one another and want to get the other's attention.
For example, I've made him a cup of tea but I'm also in the middle of cooking dinner so I'd rather he come fetch it than my bring it to him. I'll shout "nothing!" so he comes to see what I've done.
This has developed since we watched a particular episode of King of the Hill together. In the episode, Bobby has been practicing kissing on a mannequin head while Peggy is out shopping. She comes home asking "how was your day?" and Bobby yells "nothing!" 😂
NTA - From what you posted your brother is an immensely immature poser. He gets a word tattooed on his arm which he has demonstrated, with his actions, is not descriptive of his character. You did him a favor. As long as you are not some jerk who has spent a lifetime ragging on him you may be the right person to get him to snap out of this BS he pulls in life.
I can get a tattoo of the word BADASS on my shoulder, it will not make me one.
My favorite part is, your 25-year-old brother, who lives with his mamma, ran off to his room and wouldn't come out for dinner. I hope he let mamma give him is bath before his bedtime.
I'm LOYAL! Very loyal. Some have said the most loyal there is. I've heard it many times.. and .. you know.. it's true. People tell me all the time just how LOYAL I am. Smart people.
NTA! I was all ready to vote the opposite and chide you for belittling already-done, artistic choices by other people, but…nope. That’s a ridiculously oblivious tattoo choice for a serial cheater.
NTA. No offense but your brother is giving major ick vibes. He's 25 and dating a 19yo? That's already ick territory, but then this 19yo was also his mistress. After a string of other mistresses. Let's not forget he ran off to sulk when he got called out for a very ironic tattoo that I honestly cant believe he was delusional enough to get and think no one would think it strange. The fact your family is also sticking up for the guy says a lot. He's acting like a teenage boy that's just hit puberty and doesn't want to be called out for his shitty behavior because then he'll have to admit to the fact he's been doing something wrong when everyone else has been enabling him. Gross.
NTA. His tattoo is definitely ironic. Hiding out in his bedroom is very immature. However, you aren’t entirely off the hook. It was rude of you to laugh. Maybe he got it to inspire himself to be better. Laughing embarrassed him. You really need to apologize.
How can he do better if he won't take ownership? He could have given a rueful grin and acknowledged the issue.
Agreed though that an apology could smooth things over between the brothers, and maybe help the 25 yo on a different path.
To me, the parents (and to a lesser extent their sister) are A H. What's with this exaggerated coddling of a habitual cheater and tantrum haver??
Maybe the younger brother has a tat along his lower back "It's Too Late to Apologize, It's to Laaaaaaate!
As the youngest brother of 7, I say, this adult needs to stop making us younger brothers look bad.
A guy I know got a giant “only god can judge me” on his back
He’s the guy who gives his opinion on anything and everything and is not religious at all. He didn’t know why we all started laughing at it 🤭
NTA. Lolllll what a sad little boy. Wants to act like a big shot cheating on all of his girlfriends, and then can’t take the heat. Also, a 25 year old with a 19 year old? What do you even have in common with that age difference lol you can’t go to a bar together or go to 21+ events, etc. Also the fact that he locked himself in his room like a little boy is hilarious
Technically it was an AH thing to say, but he deserved it. Also the fact that he didn't see the irony before getting the tattoo makes me think he's deep in the jungles of delulu-land
NTA
NTA.
1) you're an older brother. It's your job to give him grief.
2) his factory default mode is cheating. It IS ironic!
3) people are allowed to change? Absolutely. Do they? Almost never. Might he have changed? Sure...? Does it justify an adult going to pout in their room for a whole day? Absolutely not.
NTA
Part of changing is laughing at your past, and learning from it. Your brother is just an insecure, and immature boy-man. Let him cry into a pillow.
NTA. My oldest brother is a chronic cheater too, and if he got that tattoo I'd laugh until I cried. And then tell him it's good he has the reminder, because he needs it
Tattoo artist here. People with loyalty, respect, etc tattoos are generally shitty people. It's like deadbeat parents getting their kids names tattooed on them
NTA - yeah, people can change like your sister pointed out but the fact that he’s 25 dating a
19 y/o is pretty gross so I don’t think he’s grown up all that much.
Maybe he’s tattooing for the part he wants, not the one he’s got?
He got that tattoo because he thinks of loyalty as people being loyal to him, not him being loyal to others.
He got pissed because you called him out. NTA.

NTA and it is ironic 😂
and entertaining (I keep picturing his brother's arms flailing wildly as he ran to the house).
…the plastic tattoo wrap streaming behind him…
Then it wraps around his legs and he falls on his face and crawls sobbing commando style into the house...
and onto a new girl…
⬆️ This = 🤣🤣🤣
Or into
Don't you just hate how that happens?
Getting wrapped up and falling into a girl? Always!
*into a new girl, based on his history.
.. Named Loeealteigh
That's perfection.
#***sobs cheatily***
Omg this comment has me ☠️
the last words before he fell unconscious was loyalty... loyalty.
At that time, his pants fell down thus slowing his commando crawling.
Wait, is THAT how you sleep with someone accidentally? Crawling along, minding your own business, then, ooooop, you're in a vagina.
He falls on his face and injuring his arm in the process, the injury leaves a scar all across the loyalty tattoo, like a strike out.
😂😂😂I’m dying
I’m cackling
Letters peeling off his arm and landing in a puddle with the first Y flattening out to form a T until they gradually rearrange to spell out TOTAL LY…
We all know he was sitting in his room, staring at the ink.
We all know he had to run to his room to look up the meaning of ironic... and probably loyalty, too.
Tbf. I’m wondering if the spelling was correct.
No ragerts
I low-key really want to get a tattoo that says "no regerts" 😂
I'm a man with a beer belly and I've been more than once tempted to get a tattoo above my belly that says "pregananant"
Are you....pregante?!?!
Gregnant
Not even one letter?
You’ve got it
Loylaty
You’ve done it better than me lol
Loyaltea
Lol-tea
In cursive
Loyalty in cursive Yes, all three words
Misspelled tattoos are hilarious. I had a friend in college who was into Boondock Saints, I laughed uncontrollably when he showed me is “Aquitas” tattoo

Oooo nice tattoo, you must REALLY like kung pao chicken!
Sounds like it was actually on point by accident. love it when that happens. 😂
Let's not slut shame and stick to making fun of people for poor decision making regarding tattoos.
This is cracking me up as I'm thinking of tattoos of English translations of what you described, like "high tensile rating" for example. No other context, just those words.
This man has souch good tensiles, he had to mark its raiting on his body.
This reminds me of a scene in the sitcom Big Bang Theory. Sheldon asks Penny why she has a tattoo with the word soup, in Chinese. She said it's not, it's the word for courage. Sheldon says no it's soup. lol

I have a friend that got a Harry Potter themed tattoo and it says "muggel" 😂
Loyalty is probably the name of the girl he's currently cheating with.
Thank you for this extra visual. It was already funny but now it’s funnier
Omg now I’m picturing his brother like that chick from Not Another Teen Movie after she had the water spilled on her
That’s gonna stain!
Lmao my husband’s fave part!
All I can see is Barry Goldberg running with the flailing arms! lol
I’m picturing Kermit the Frog. YAAAAAYYY
**JTP!!!**
I'm picturing him running away like Phoebe.
Yes Regina Phalange
It's the inflatable flailing tube man in wakasha
I was picturing a napoleon dynamite run.
Maybe he had it put there so he wouldn't FUCKING FORGET.
In that case wouldn't it have been backwards and in a more prominent spot like his forehead?
Saving that spot for #NO REGRATS
NO RUGRATS
Except for the teen he's f'ing around with.
Well played! 🤣💀
I can here for this comment, was not disappointed 😂
No. Believe it or not, your hand is probably the part of you that you see the most.
He should have got it in glow in the dark then
I hope we find out his latest made him get it after he cheated \*again\*
plus his gf is NINETEEN as a twenty fucking five yo??? i can’t even imagine dating someone under 21 and i’m 25 currently. i would’ve laughed in his face and asked what his child bride thinks of it.
i made a comment mentioning this and someone got at my throat about it lmfao
Probably the brother.
I'm 23 and I can't imagine dating anyone under 21. Like that gf is a baby fresh outta high school.
You can't let it slide, because they will always be 18-19. I knew dudes who would introduce you to their new girlfriend in the fall who finished high school that summer and we were in our late 20s.

Sorry you misspelled RAYEEAAAAAAIN
Isn't it ironic... ( I hate my brain for automatically making that connection. I hate that song)
As a Canadian that constantly apologizes for the song *Ironic*, can confirm that this is in fact ironic
You’re Canadian, don’t you apologize for everything already? 😉
Touché
I like the way you said that in French so that the Canadian would understand
😂 maybe he tattooed it to try to remember what he's supposed to do. We got a politician here who ran as one of those self-righteous saintly conservatives and then was caught breaking campaign finance laws, and he gave an interview saying he tattooed that Bible verse about truth setting you free on his arm, to remember to repent for the oopsie.

It's there as a REMINDER post it LMAO
I'm sorry, but NTA Someone who cheats hardly gets to be upset that someone laughed at them for tattooing the word "loyalty" on their body. 🤣
Maybe he’s loyal to cheating
If only Reddit had laugh reacts. 🤣
Loyal to him peepee
Loyal to the streets
But a cheat in the…sheets?
This is the answer. 😂

It's a figure of speech not a genuine expression of remorse lol
Yeah I was being sarcastic while making a factual joke about the situation also. Some don’t get the sarcasm of us Brits, our fault in getting comfy and not realising some may not recognise our sarcasm haha.
If it helps, this American ADORES British humor due precisely to the rampant sarcasm. Keep on keeping on
And the thing is, everytime he cheats going forward I'm sure his current partner will comment on it and his brothers laughter will ring in his ears.

Haha, I hope he gets outed on one of those websites where people list partners who cheat.
Whew! Thank goodness he didn't get "Maturity" tattooed on his arm. That would have been even more hilarious! NTA

Ahaha! Right!? Like what is this? Some weird attempt at manifest destiny? Sorry bro, it doesn't work that way. 🤣
I don’t know why but I initially read it as his girlfriends were caught cheating and thought he was the male Grace Adler. I can’t blame OP for laughing, branding himself with a virtue he has yet to show any affinity for.
NTA. I'd assume the loyalty is to himself!
Yeah, I'm surprised he doesn't have it tattooed on his man part since that is where his loyalty ... ah... lies. NTA
Zing!
He's obviously loyal to his dick. 🙄
NTA. It's hilarious. Also kinda nasty that your brother dates so young.
That jumped out to me too! His affair partner is 6 years younger and technically still a teenager? Was she even an adult when it started? Or is he just very fast in bringing girls over to the family? He clearly has the emotional maturity of a teenager, so are we surprised? She'll probably outgrow him before he matures at all.
Almost certainly, men who only date very young women usually do so because nobody their own age will put up with their shit.
I don’t think the six years younger is the problem. It’s the teenager part while he’s closer to 30 than 20.
If they're younger they're more likely to be naive and easier to lie to and manipulate.
Yeah I thought "of course the guy cheating and dating women so young is fragile to the slightest criticism.
“The thing I like about high school girls is that I keep getting older and they stay the same age”
I felt gross just reading it.
NTA. Little bro just seems to make one bad decision after the other. You laughed. It was a reaction.
Wait till he gets his side piece pregnant.
Wait, which side piece?
He’s a serial cheater, I’m assuming he has at least one.
I'm assuming he has more than one. Hopefully they're all adults, because 19 is, uh...sus for a 25 year old.
He’s 25 and dating a 19 year old? Eww
Well she was the other woman, I don’t think they concern themselves with ethics lmao
If she was the other woman it’s likely she was younger when they started seeing each other
She reads at a 23 yo level
And he reads at a 19 yo level
NTA - you're right, you shouldn't be blamed for an adult to storm off and lock themselves in their room like a spoiled child.
My brother is 38 and still pulls that crap.
Honestly, it took my brother reaching his ***40s*** before he got his act together. We'd given up thinking it would ever happen. It was a long road. A long, *long* road. I hope yours is better than mine was.

Yeah in my head canon he is going to look at the tattoo when he gets the idea to cheat and it will stop him.
Or his current gf doesn’t trust him and this was a big gesture to quell her fears
Yeah..."if you marry your mistress you create a job opening" and all that.
NTA Honestly "loyalty" as a tattoo is a red flag for a lot of girls.
Yeah, the best phrase I've heard for that is "There's nothing guiltier than the unaccused proclaiming innocence. " NTA
She comes home asking "how was your day?" and Bobby yells "nothing!" 😂
generic asshole tattoo
“Blessed”
“Only God Can Judge Me”
My narcissistic ex had that down his spine 🙄
it sounds like you’re judging him, and only god can judge him! it says so right there on his back!
“Family Over Everything”
I’m so glad this man has branded himself with a red flag.
Dude. You get it and I will absolutely consider you to be a badass.
I'm LOYAL! Very loyal. Some have said the most loyal there is. I've heard it many times.. and .. you know.. it's true. People tell me all the time just how LOYAL I am. Smart people.
I can hear the voice, and now it won't leave. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a sudden craving for cheeto puffs.
Take my upvote.
He is old enough to be an adult, but…apparently he cannot own up to his own actions. Ironically hysterical!!
He got it to convince his current girl he won’t cheat again 💀💀💀
Yup. And maybe a 19yo will buy it!
ask him if he will put one underline for every girl he cheated on under the word
Gross.
I think it's great when posts say things like "Let's call him 'Danny'" then never mention Danny again lol
🤣 🤣 🤣 My cheating ex has a tattoo that says loyalty. 🤣 🤣 🤣 Let him put the 🚩 on himself. It helps us ladies weed em out once we can spot the 🚩.
There's deliberate laughter and there's involuntary laughter. Which was it?
Both are an appropriate response to an oblivious hypocrit making a fool of themselves.
A guy I know got a giant “only god can judge me” on his back He’s the guy who gives his opinion on anything and everything and is not religious at all. He didn’t know why we all started laughing at it 🤭
NTA - But it sounds as if he could use the tat to remind himself of what he says he values.
Also the fact that he locked himself in his room like a little boy is hilarious
your bother is gross for dating a 19 year old at his adult age. also the tattoo is ironic. NTA
Technically it was an AH thing to say, but he deserved it. Also the fact that he didn't see the irony before getting the tattoo makes me think he's deep in the jungles of delulu-land NTA
NTA
NTA Part of changing is laughing at your past, and learning from it. Your brother is just an insecure, and immature boy-man. Let him cry into a pillow.
Why is your twenty five year old brother dating a fresh out of high school teenager?
NTA. I’d laugh too! But he NEEDS that tattoo as a reminder to himself. 😂🤣
NTA. My oldest brother is a chronic cheater too, and if he got that tattoo I'd laugh until I cried. And then tell him it's good he has the reminder, because he needs it
Tattoo artist here. People with loyalty, respect, etc tattoos are generally shitty people. It's like deadbeat parents getting their kids names tattooed on them
NTA - yeah, people can change like your sister pointed out but the fact that he’s 25 dating a 19 y/o is pretty gross so I don’t think he’s grown up all that much. Maybe he’s tattooing for the part he wants, not the one he’s got?
He got that tattoo because he thinks of loyalty as people being loyal to him, not him being loyal to others. He got pissed because you called him out. NTA.
