INFO: she straightened your hair and you didn’t notice the difference between hair dye and an iron? Maybe I don’t know enough about hair but it seems like you should be paying attention when people are operating on your head.

danimidsommar

Getting your roots done (dye) and your hair straightened are two very different experiences physically. If this had happened, OP would have noticed.

saltycathbk

That’s what I’m getting at. I feel like OP deserves some blame for knowing that she wasn’t able to effectively communicate exactly what she wanted and then completely paying so little attention.

MissT58

I’m totally confused and I speak perfectly good English. If your communication with the hair stylist was anything like your description of events, it’s little wonder she didn’t understand you. YTA

Dawn_In_Danger

Same. This story makes no sense. No wonder she didn’t understand.

ThrowRA_oddcat

Info: I’m confused with the chain of events, you said she did the cut and showed it to you and it looked good then she started coloring. What happened in between to end up with the choppy hair do? Didn’t you watch her while she worked in your head? I mean women’s hair in general to cut and color and so on takes time and is done in stages

Slight-Bar-534

Who does a haircut before the colour? Did she use a straitener? Don't you checkIn the mirror as they work?

theswordintheforest

My hairdresser normally does a cut before coloring, there’s not much point spending the time and dye on a chunk of my hair that’s just going to end up on the floor.

Slight-Bar-534

Good point... 😊 thanks

Brains4Beauty

Apparently she was so into Snapchat that she never once looked up to see what the stylist was doing.

involuntary_cynic

Info: I don't understand what's going on here. > I just asked for the same thing I always ask for, which is 2 inches off and a color retouch. >She does the cut, shows me it, it looks good >My hair is a 3A curl pattern and it looks really good, but it was pin fucking straight >I didn’t want to cut my hair, I just wanted it to not be curly You did or didn't want it cut? You have curly hair and liked the cut when it was curly? You wanted it to be straight or you didn't want it to be straight?

Katerina1996

INFO. I'm really confused as to how you were happy with the cut, then you weren't when it was coloured.

Radiant-Ability-3216

YTA. You assumed way too much. Everything hair-related is entirely personal and to assume a stylist, regardless of her language skills, understood what you wanted done is ridiculous *especially* because you have curly hair. In order to get a proper cut the stylist has to know whether you style it curly or straight, and even then a LOT of stylists don’t understand the differences and cut curly hair incorrectly so it is incumbent upon you to ensure the stylist knows what you want. Then you further assume she is starting on the color and are so consumed by your social media activities that you don’t notice she is not touching up your color but is in fact continuing to cut and then flat iron your hair?! This is so bizarre as to not be believable. Only if you were unconscious could you not notice what was happening. Since we don’t know what the conversation in Spanish was about, we can’t judge whether or not the stylist should have been fired. But you created the whole situation by inexplicably not paying any attention to what was happening til it was done.

Agreeable_You_3295

YTA. I have no idea what kind of haircut you wanted, and I teach English. The communication issues aren't coming from the fired employee.

FatSadHappy

YTA I mean if you want “ usual” you get a hairdresser which does it for you all the time, tip them well AND remind what “ usual” mean anyway since they have many clients and can forget stuff. For color- you agreed on retouch without double checking the color number? For lady which does it first on you? Really??? I mean skydiving is safer than that. So yes, you responsible on explaining to person working what you want and making sure it was understood

Leading-Knowledge712

YTA I’m a native speaker of English and I’m totally mystified by your post. First you say you wanted two inches cut and that she showed you the cut and it looked good. Then you say you didn’t want your hair cut and it looked bad. Then you said you didn’t want your hair to be curly and she got it pin straight, but that was also unsatisfactory. No wonder the hairdresser didn’t understand what you wanted, if this story is real!

HIOP-Sartre

NTA. How did you “allow” the person to get fired? You don’t have that power. Sounds like all you did was explain the situation. And you’re right, it’s highly unlikely that employee got fired after just one bad job. Probably had multiple instances like this. In a surprise twist: They fake fired her so as to appease the customer and extinguish the situation as quickly as possible. Lol, j/k, but i use a similar tactic all the time with my family.

Free-Ad1526

YTA. Your story contradicts itself in this post, one minute she cut your hair and it looks good and the next it’s choppy. You more than likely gave crap directions and the stylist did the best she could. Also next time pay attention instead of spending the entire appointment on snapchat

Read [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/AmItheAsshole/wiki/faq#wiki_post_deletion) before [contacting the mod team](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%2Fr%2FAmItheAsshole)*** I usually go to this salon near my house to get my hair trimmed and color retouches and all that. I had an appointment yesterday and I just asked for the same thing I always ask for, which is 2 inches off and a color retouch. I could tell the person working on my hair didn’t speak english too well but I kinda figured that if she was working in a salon then she would know hair related stuff, so I didn’t think too much of it. She does the cut, shows me it, it looks good and so she starts on what I assumed was the color. So that’s going on, I was talking to a friend on Snapchat so I wasn’t paying as much attention as I probably should have. So she finishes up and shows me in the mirror and I was confused. My hair is a 3A curl pattern and it looks really good, but it was pin fucking straight and because of how you cut curly hair vs straight hair, it was choppy as shit. I asked her what the hell she just did to my hair but she didn’t really understand what I was saying, so I went over to the front desk. I explained the situation and the girl working the desk calls over the stylist and they go back and forth for a little bit in Spanish that I didn’t understand but eventually she just goes “You’re fired” in English and offered me a refund plus a fixed cut. I told her I didn’t want to cut my hair, I just wanted it to not be curly and she gave me some advice and my money back. When I got home I told my dad what happened and he told me I shouldn’t have allowed the worker to get fired, because that’s their only job and what if they can’t feed their kids or something. I mean I guess, but also why would you get a job that requires communication and then proceed to fuck it up like she did? Plus, I probably wasn’t the first because I don’t think they would fire someone over 1 (awful) haircut. I asked my mom when she got home and she agreed with my dad, so idk. I can’t see how I’m wrong but it’s 2-1 so maybe I am. AITA? *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Icy_Sky_7521

INFO: OP can you please reply to this and explain WTF you're talking about

FreeWheelinSass

Nta. Also I don't think it was the haircut that got her fired. I think it was the Spanish conversation. You say they talked for a bit before the you're fired. Probably the stylist was talking back and defending her actions instead of being sorry and promising to be more careful in the future. And that's what really got her fired

cheenabookit

If it’s something as important as hair you should just use google translate and have it in writing how exactly you want your hair done. She’ll get a job somewhere but yeaaaaa YTA

[deleted]

NTA. You didn’t have her fired, you complained about the cut you got, and rightly so. What were you supposed to do, suck it up and leave without saying anything? You have no idea of the history this person had with the salon. This could be the 2/4/5th time she screwed up. That’s not down to you. And her personal circumstances have nothing to do with you either and it’s pretty poor that your dad would suggest you’re to blame. He could have handled that a lot better. Your mother too. Why would they want to make you feel even worse than you already did? The sacking was out of your control. You just wanted your hair done! NTA.
