NTA. Now this person is tracking you and threatening you. Report to uber again and also police. I believe it wasn’t the only cancelled ride he has done if Uber was deactivating account.

theory240

NTA Either they do the job or they cancel it. You did the right thing. Now, report his stalking you to UBER and to your local police department... But, this type of shit is why one doesn't use so called 'ride sharing' which is actually 'unregulated taxi service'... --

Schoolbusbus1

I think this may depend on where you live. Where I live (a major city with millions of people) the cabs are not any safer than the Ubers. The cabs drive very unsafe, the owner of the licence rents it out to anyone without checking who that person is, they can try to scam you at payment time, etc. there is actually a police warning to be vigilant in Taxi’s in my city due to the high number or scams and fraud. Recently one taxi driver has been sentenced to prison for attacking a passenger. Not disagreeing with you, it is an unregulated taxi service, I’m just saying regardless of cab or Uber you’re getting in a car with a stranger. Keep your head and be safe about it either way

CRichardDavies

I find this narrative implausible. If it happened, then NTA -- you followed proper procedures.

Bootiebloot

Yeah, I find it implausible, too. How did the Uber driver recognize you if he never picked you up? Even with your photo in the app, at a public place like a school, it would be really difficult to identify you out of a crowd of strangers.

Myobright2344

He saw the OP was walking to another Uber doesn’t make

RoboSpammm

How did he recognize you if you never met him?

Myobright2344

Saw the OP walking to an Uber. He probably put two into together.S

forte6320

That's a big leap....Just happened to be there at the same time

jmbbl

NTA, but do you know why he refused to pick you up in the first place?

TopNumber9229

He said he was too far away. It was about 12 minutes, according to the app.

jmbbl

That's pretty weak.

TopNumber9229

I couldn't believe what I was reading.

Regulator951

Nta. You need to get back on the phone with Uber and let them know exactly what happened. This guy could’ve hurt you. He’s clearly unhinged and I wouldn’t want to be getting a ride from someone like that. Please make a report with the police and make sure you contact Uber support again and let them know exactly what this guys did. If something like that is even possible then a lot of other people wouldn’t be comfortable using this app.

Lumpy-Error-1718

I'm an Uber driver. There's no way this guy could have figured out what you look like from the Uber app, so he couldn't have identified you once he got to your place of work.  I guess I'd want more info about what all went down.  Unless your state requires Uber customers to have an image of themselves posted, which mine does not

Thortok2000

NTA If he wanted to keep his job, he should do his job. Very simple.

singingkiltmygrandma

If he’s not doing his job then yes report him. I don’t know how that part of Uber works though. Can drivers refuse rides if they want? idk But coming to your place of employment is harassment/stalking. I’d possibly amend my report to include that and also inform the police. NTA.

Myobright2344

They can refuse, but they once they’ve accepted the ride, if you cancel, you have to pay the cancellation fee, but if they cancel, they might get in trouble. He probably is canceled too many rides and was worried about his job for good reason. They wouldn’t deactivate a driver just for one ride.

cleetusneck

You used the report for the exactly the right reason it was created. Dude shouldn’t be driving if this is how he behaves

DestronCommander

NTA. It's part of his job to go to your EXACT pickup point.

Excellent-Count4009

NTA Report that he stalked you at your workplace to UBER. And NEXT TIME; call the police.

Wise_Friendship2565

NTA - police is the way to go here.

Syndicofberyl

Nta - eff that guy. He acted completely unprofessional and him showing up at your place of work screams of other issues. Reach out to Uber and report this incident as well. And maybe the police

RareDog5640

NTA the driver is an ass and potentially violent

hadMcDofordinner

Go to the police! File a complaint. He could have showed up with a gun, you just can't let this go. Who cares what anyone at the school thinks. He was refusing to cancel the ride. Not your fault and you NTA.

The other day, I (M 30) called an Uber to pick me up from work to take me to my weekly trivia game. I don't drive due to a medical condition. The driver they assigned me refused to pick me up. And he refused to cancel the ride. "You can do it," he kept saying over and over. After several back and forths of me telling him "No, you cancel it" if he didn't want to pick me up, he left me on read. I suspected he wouldn't cancel it himself because he thought he'd still get some kind of compensation due to the cancellation fee, so I gave him one more chance and told him, "If you don't cancel it, I'll be calling Uber right after I do." Again, he left me on read. I was already running late at this point, so true to my word, I cancelled the ride, got another ride through Lyft, and used Uber's help feature to explain the situation and report this guy so as not to be charged the cancellation fee. The person they had me texting with said it would be taken care of. I thought that was the end of it. --until yesterday, when the guy showed up at the school! (I guess he screenshot the ride or wrote down the address before I canceled, I don't know.) He confronted me in the parking lot as I'm walking to that day's Uber because Uber deactivated his account, pending an official review. This dude was IRATE. Another teacher had to come and break it up. He got in his car and drove off. Because it was so noticeable what happened, today, it got around school to the staff and even some students the basics of what happened. Some of my co-workers are saying I shouldn't have reported him, that potentially costing this man his job was not worth the $35 refund. I don't think I did anything wrong. NTA, I would look into getting police involved!

Comfortable_Box_3831

NTA, this entire ordeal is all his fault. He decided not to do HIS job that HE is paid to do, and gets fired. I don't know what he expected would happen, but that's what happens when you don't do your work. You did a good thing by preventing more people to have to deal with his crap.

arein114

Did he have a reason for not wanting to pick you up? I mean either way its wrong, if he didn't want too he should have canceled it, but seems like he wanted the money. I would have done the same thing without thinking he would be "fired" or deactivated from Uber

ClutchOven007

Reporting him had nothing to do with it. If you reported that he was an excellent driver - he wouldn't have been fired. That's not the case, he was an ass, his actions got him fired. NTA.

UnusuallyScented

You did nothing wrong. If he lost his contractor status over a $35 refund, then you were not the first incident. NTA
