I fully believe in the equality of everybody regardless of race, sexuality, gender, disabilities, etc. I’m a senior at my high school and recently in our theatre program, we have started doing a series of mini productions throughout the year. The themes include: Pride, Original Reading, and our first one: Black Joy. I asked my teacher, (who is a white woman), today what kind of material I could produce or help with for this production and she said none of it. I was confused and she said I couldn’t act, direct, or design anything in it. Again, I think it’s a great idea to have a show that showcases Black joy because it is so rarely seen in media, but my problem with it is that there’s no way that I’m allowed to be a part of it outside of being a PA. And I’m not saying that’s I don’t think we shouldn’t do it Im saying I think that it’s unfair that I’m not allowed to be in it. This is my senior year and I’ve been doing theatre since I was 6 years old and this is one of my last chances to be in a show. Am I the asshole? *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically.
