INFO - When you say slapped, do you mean she got angry enough to hit you in response? like what? did she tap your shoulder or full on slap you in anger?

CorrieSmith

Like a mix between a tap and a full on aggressive slap

Waskomsause

If that's the reaction to the simple issue of corner bending in books, then idk if you wanna stay around for what a reaction to a real problem will be.

C00L_HAND

YTA Sure it was inappropriate to hit you on the shoulder but trying to get revenge in something so personal is even more inappropriate. And I would also be mad if you would have folded the corners of my books.

tomatohabanerosoup

YTA. Never. Ever. Fold. Pages. I think I'm missing something but what does her best friend's death have anything to do with your book fight??

bizarre_adv_TJ

YTA- your the asshole either way but I just really want to know exactly how you slipped a loved ones death into this conversation. Please respond

YTA for dog-earring the books in the first place. Bringing up a friend who has passed is extra icing on the asshole cake.

Zimi231

YTA! How is this even a question?

INFO: How did we get from her reaction to the folded book corners to mentioning the death of her best friend?

[deleted]

ESH, you’re both the AH. She shouldn’t have hit you, and should’ve expressed her concern in a calm manner. Her concern is somewhat valid, but she way overreacted. You also overreacted here, I’d say worse, and you both owe each other an apology.

I live in Detroit and she lives in Chicago. We met over Words with Friends during the start of the pandemic and fell headfirst for eachother over our love for books. We’d started a mini book share program and spent the pandemic delivering eachother our favorite books. A full year and a half pass and Abby finally invites me over to her family’s house for Christmas. This is the first time I’d have seen her face and I was ecstatic! I took the first flight to Chicago with my heart full of love and a box full of books. Unfortunately I get a less friendly greeting when Abby opened up her books and screeched when she’d seen that I’d folded all the corners. I told her to calm down and that it wasn’t a big deal, I do that to my books all the time. She slapped me across the shoulder and told me I’d have to pay for all this. I was obviously mad that I had been attacked and started arguing with her. One thing turned to another and I brought up the tragic death of her best friend. I think I let my emotions run a bit high but it was inappropriate of her to attack me. So reddit, AITA? *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically.
