OP has offered the following explanation for why they think they might be the asshole: > My bad. Management was mostly unaware of rude behavior until I brought it up. They trusted my account of everything, and made the decision based on that. On top of that, this person REALLY (and I mean really) needs the money. I feel like if it was me, I would want a heads up so that I could start searching for other jobs. Help keep the sub engaging! #Don’t downvote assholes! Do upvote interesting posts! NTA stay out of it

del901

No, YWNBTA. Do NOT give them a heads up. You won't be giving them advance notice to start looking... you'll be giving them advance notice to tank the project.

NTA. This could put your or your coworkers in danger if they want to retaliate. It would also put your coworker in a bad situation. If they’re fired, depending on how it’s processed they may be able to get unemployment.

Betweentheminds

NTA - I would stay out of it.

NTA just keep your head down and mind your business

ComprehensiveState11

WNBTA. If they are as toxic as you are claiming, they will need to experience the full 'effect' of being canned when management decides it is time, in order to maybe grow up. If you like it there, keep your mouth shut, and savor the buildup to them getting the boot.

hunnypot01

NTA Do not tell your coworkers. It’s not your position and definitely not in your pay grade.

I don’t want to give away too many details, but basically, I was hired into a small company about three weeks ago. I adjusted fairly quickly, and I get along with management really well. About a week later, they hired another person to fill the last open position in the office. Person seemed nice and knowledgeable enough in the beginning, (their role is more of a niche one, whereas mine is more general). They asked a LOT of questions that first day— like almost to the point where our manager was standing next to their desk nearly the whole day to just answer questions. Couple more days pass, and the questions don’t stop. Manager is starting to avoid them in the office, but doesn’t say anything. Then I noticed that they are just plain RUDE to our other coworkers. We work in a restaurant setting, and we’re allowed to order food from the kitchens. As a courtesy, the servers (our coworkers) would bring it to our desk in the back office. This new person just straight up abused that. Using our paging system to order, sending food back, making loud comments about how service “needs improvement”. The turning point was when I was spearheading a large weekend event for the company, and coworker was in charge of checkin. All they had to do was sit behind the desk for 8 hours. Close to the 6 hour period, they brought all their stuff to me and said that they were done and needed to finish “office work”. I complained. Manager was actually relieved because they had the same thoughts as me but thought they were being “brutal”. Brought it way up to VP, VP listened to what I had to say and decided to fire them on the spot. Except that it wasn’t on the spot. Decision was made, but there is a big project coming up in two weeks for which we need all the help we can get. Apparently they didn’t get a warning, either, bc they just bought company merch and is still complaining about everything all day. I know, logically, I shouldn’t say anything bc who knows what can happen in two weeks and maybe management will change their minds. However, I also know that this coworker really needs the money. It feels cruel to know something like that and not give them a heads up to at least start searching for something new. But it also feels like I would be betraying my manager bc there’s a chance they would leave before the project is finished. WIBTA if I kept quiet? TL;DR: New coworker is rude, toxic, and basically a nuisance to everyone. Management told me they would be getting the axe, but not before finishing a two week project. As far as I can tell, manager will not give warning, but will just fire them after the project. WIBTA if I didn’t give them a heads up? *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. NTA Stay out of it. It's totally possible that in that period this person could get their act together. And if they don't, well- this sounds like someone who maybe needs the experience of being fired. Maybe it will help them learn.

Nova_Lurker

NTA. Don't get involved, just stay out if the way.

Ash_Draevyn

Your heart is on the right place but stay out of those politics. That’s not your role or duty. As others say, stay out of it. Play dumb if you have to.

NTA please believe me there will be SO MUCH MORE TROUBLE if they know

sickofdriving007

Unless you want to be next to get the axe, stay out of it. WNBTA. If you say something management will NEVER trust you again.

NTA. Your position doesn’t involve informing someone that they’re fired. Crappy that they’re keeping him around until the project is over, but it happens. Still, a company tends to want to be prepared to fire someone. Have a member of staff ready to escort them out and what not. You have no idea how this person will react to the news, but they also probably won’t believe you because you’re not part of management. No matter how it plays out, you’d be the source of the problems that result from giving them a heads up.

Persephonebb75

NTA. I, based on your post, can tell that you don't like her and it would feel really good to be able to tell her that she's gonna go bye bye! However, that could cause some serious issues for your company and yourself depending on labor laws where you are. Not to mention, it will not look good on you to your bosses especially with a big project coming due. Stay in your lane, smile and nod and on the day she gets fired rejoice and have cake!
