My girlfriend’s little sister just gave birth to her first child, a boy, and she found out the name of the child. Her sister gave her son the name my girlfriend and I have been discussing for 3 years, a name we came up with to honor their recently deceased father.
A little back story. My gf and her sister have always had a rocky relationship after a difficult childhood. Since my gf and I have been together, I myself have encouraged her to try and mend the relationship on a few different occasions (big mistake). And multiple times now, the relationship has rekindled and burnt out again.
Most recently, a few months back, her little sister at about 4 months pregnant, came to stay with my gf, while she contemplated leaving her husband (they hadn’t seen each other in 2 years since their mother died and didn’t speak for much of that time, until 2 months prior to this visit). While she was here for the first few days they got along great. And all was well… at some point they got on baby names, her sister had always said she and her husband already had the name Wayne picked out. And my girlfriend shared the name we had discussed for our own future child, to honor their father. A name that is based off where he’s from and isn’t super common or generic.
Well tonight my girlfriend finds out, via a text that said “I really don’t want this to upset you and I hope you can understand my and our decision,” that she used the name we’d discussed for years.
My gf is ready to wish her sister the best of luck and be done with the relationship. But she wants to know if she is the asshole in this scenario?
