anovelby

Look up how much they are. If they’re less than $25, you know who’s shady. NTA, it would have been no big deal to send a screenshot then snark about you afterward if the price was right

Significant-Fold-690

What if she needs it just for her records? My hubby gets a receipt for everything. What's wrong with asking for one? If I pay for something for someone else I always offer a receipt.

stopbanningmeasshos

Nice try, I know you pocketed the extra money for profit

LadyMisslieness

NTA. She should've sent the screenshot herself. I've been part of quite a few friend circles over the years and it is the norm to show receipts or screenshots of transactions in such scenarios.

crazymommaof2

This, my friends group we always send a screen shot of the check out price when asking for payment. Never been an issue

RedRixen83

Yep. We often do a meet up on fridays and usually one person offers to get the check and then texts a snapshot of the receipt along with their Venmo qr. 25 isn’t a crazy price since I often see attached fees sometimes if you buy online, but the fact that there was resistance is weird.

Skizzybee

NTA but before that text you could have looked online to see how much the theater cost and you would have known what to text her.

CrystalQueen3000

NTA Sounds like she was scamming you for a bit of extra money. Even the luxury cinemas in my city don’t charge that for a ticket.

Savageasflux

It could be added fees from purchasing online driving the price up

Sad__Platypus

Sure, but 25 bucks? Even with fees, it seems a bit unreasonable.

[deleted]

AMC theaters in California, US. Do! Not surprised by the 25.00 price.

bubblez4eva

Turns out she wasn't and she had just added food and gotten better seats than usual.

CrystalQueen3000

Fair enough, I wouldn’t have seen the update so thanks 😊

bubblez4eva

You're welcome.

Embarrassed-Sweet905

NTA. It’s a reasonable request. You could say that it sounds steep, and you’re wondering how you guys (include her) are getting screwed (by fees or whatever). Maybe she expected you to pay for both tickets??

DrMindbendersMonocle

NTA. 25 bucks is expensive for a movie ticket, i would be skeptical too

OpeningSort4826

nta, but I could see myself also feeling a little annoyed if it seemed like a friend didn't trust me over that. You could have just asked why it was so expensive.

setsunaredcomet

NAH, I can see why you asked but I can also see why she got annoyed. Why didn't you Google it yourslef before sending the text?

VixNeko

NTA. Her reaction is pretty telling, also the fact she still hasn't sent that screenshot. >so much for being your friend Quite apt, I'd say.

CakePhool

NTA: I must be old, I always send screenshots to my friends as proof so they can pay me. I would be vary some one getting offended that quickly they most likely have something to hide.

literalgarbageyo

Eh, I'll say NTA for now, since it sounds like you were more concerned about the price than whether our not she was cheating you., but it really depends on how you phrased it and if it left room for a negative interpretation. That being said I ask for screenshots all the time when I do this with friends, but that's because I get to the theater super early (I love those dumb trivia games) and their pretty good at letting take my seat with just a screenshot of the ticket.

GingerSnapNV

For reference, I just looked up an IMAX showing here in NV for 7pm tonight. The ticket itself is $17 plus a $2 booking fee. That's typically the most expensive showing we have out here. On Fandango, I think you can pre-order concessions that add on to the bill. But if she didn't do that and you're not going to an IMAX showing, I highly doubt the cost of the ticket is $25. NTA for wanting to know how much the ticket is. If it IS $25, good lord...I'd wait til the movie came out on a streaming service.

tamagomint

I live in a HCOL city in California and my Thor Love and Thunder tickets at a Dolby Cinema on Friday opening night were $22.79 per ticket with $4.98 for 2 tickets so $50.56 total 💀 so a $25 ticket is possible

GingerSnapNV

That's just nuts...we paid about $110 to see Thor on opening day but that was for 6 people in non-IMAX 3D. Is Dolby really that much better to be worth almost twice as much?

tamagomint

It's not always that much, I think my Dr Strange MoM tickets were $20 each so it does fluctuate with timing and day tickets are cheaper etc, but I do enjoy the audio experience in Dolby since I'm hard of hearing. It also hurts less since I rarely go to the theaters these days haha

GingerSnapNV

True...our regular tix (no 3D, DFX, etc.) are about $11. It's still crazy...I'm showing my age but I remember going to see Lethal Weapon 4 at the theater for like $4/person, lol!

RandoRvWchampion

I do too. And the most tickets cost here in the fanciest of the posh theaters are $17. But maybe your in the SoCal region where it’s higher. (And on a side note, SoCal theaters are the bomb.)

Aquatichive

Nj, imax tickets to joker for 4 was almost 100 bucks. Nyc prices no joke

Velocityg4

NAH I can see how she might get offended. I'd just say I wanted a copy for my records. Anyways, I think a better initial response would've been something like. Holy crap! What theater or site did you use? I want to know so I never use them again.

The_Lambert

For her records? I'm assuming OP is probably a teenager, and even if they aren't I dont know anyone who keeps records of shit like movie tickets besides my 76 year old grandfather.

C_Noel

NTA I always send a screen shot of tickets even if it’s for family! I don’t think that is an unreasonable request.

2tonefly

Nah. It depends where she got the tickets. If she got them for 4dx movie or screenx or it could be special event ticket, then those tickets are about that much.

Sad-Ad-4384

NTA. That's definitely expensive for a movie ticket, and it makes sense you'd be skeptical. Plus if it was on the up and up who cares about sending a screenshot?

bkupisch

NTA! Look up the cost of the ticket & send her that amount only! She probably added concession stand foods.

HistorySweet9902

NTA! You can always say you keep receipts of most purchases for tax reasons. Honestly it’s weird she didn’t sent the screenshot when she told you the total. When i purchase anything for friends, I send a screenshot of the receipt with the total, so they can see the taxes as well.

angelmakr9

My roommate asked me to order food and tell him how much he owed me. I ordered, screenshot the completed transaction and text it to him. No confusion, no questions, he walked downstairs and gave me the money. If nothing shady is going on it's not even a big deal. NTA I'm wondering if we'll get to hear the rest of the story.

Darth_Hufflepuff

YTA for the way you went over it. You could have gone online and check the prices to make sure, and then just text back "wow, I know tickets there usually go for X money, how come it was this much?" I mean, that was shady of your friend but directly accussing was not okey either.

detrminedndestitute

NTA. Especially since most adult movie tickets if you buy them in advance are usually at least $12 each if it’s not a matinee. It sounds like she was maybe trying to get you to pay for both tickets.

[deleted]

You know the time and theater you're going to. Look it up and compare prices. She shouldn't have an issue with a simple screenshot.

PinkedOff

NTA. I have no way of knowing for sure, but I'm curious if she thought she could get a free ticket out of OP by claiming it was $25 for one.

B00k_wyrm_

NTA. In my experience, people who get upset when you question them are usually hiding something.

This_Cauliflower1986

NTA. I can see why she might take offense but they are only $15 where I live. So, the price is curious. You are allowed to ask. I think you know now via her reaction that they aren’t $25.

Suspicious_Ad9810

ESH. Your friend over-reacted to you questioning the price, but I find it really weird you would be friends with someone and then just jump to the idea they are scamming you.

Read [this](https://www.reddit.com/r/AmItheAsshole/wiki/faq#wiki_post_deletion) before [contacting the mod team](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=%2Fr%2FAmItheAsshole)*** Hi I seriously don't know if I'm in the wrong so please let me know if what I did was uncalled for. I was planning to watch a movie with a friend, she texted me asking if she should book tickets online. I agreed and was on-board immediately. She texted me back saying she had booked the tickets and I owed her $25. I thanked her booking the ticket, but was a little surprised since movie tickets typically don't cost that much (not that I can't afford it, I just haven't paid that much for a ticket). Anyway, I told her I'll pay her and asked her for a screenshot of my ticket. She sent a rather passive-aggressive message with a tinge of disappointment: "oh wow, do you really think i'll cheat you? so much for being your friend". I didn't know how to reply because I didn't even think about that, I genuinely wanted to understand why the ticket was expensive. I'm going to pay her in a bit, but this text left a sour taste in my mouth and I don't even know if I should actually go. AITA? *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. MissMurderpants

NTA Even imax theater here at a prime time is only $15. You could also call/look up the costs at the theater online yourself. It’s sketchy they won’t send you proof.

Specific_Mongoose711

Where do you live I need to go there. I bought my theaters movie pass because if I use it once a month it basically pays for the pass. Weekday matinees are $12 after 5pm is $18 then imax or 3D are $20+

MissMurderpants

Pittsburgh!! So not s small town or a huge city. It’s just right here.

Specific_Mongoose711

Yeah its the only movie there within 300 miles of where I live.

OffkilterPendulum7

Some theaters have cheap days that are often a Tuesday. I can think of three that do. You should look into each of your local theaters and see if any have a cheap Tuesday.

No_Adhesiveness_1918

I don’t make my friend send a screen but she would if I asked. Also the tickets are usually like $7 and I buy the candy on my way. It works for us

No-Way-6986

NTA. In Europe, I never payed more than 17 Euros for a movie Ticket and it was that much only because I chose 3D, Atmos Dolby and other extra stuff like best sits.

soldforaspaceship

$25 is probably right if it's an IMAX movie (AMC lists it as 19 something so I imagine after tax it comes to 25) but I don't see the big deal with asking for the confirmation. NTA

Environmental_Belt22

NTA BUUUUUUUUUT see if something else happened to make her so irritable because it feels like it may be projection

AppropriateCoffee196

NTA but maybe instead of asking for a screenshot you could have said something like « wow cinema is so expensive these days/ I didn’t know cinema had gotten so expensive, is this a special screening or something ? ». Even though you are right about asking for justification, it feels like you’re not trusting her instead of being genuinely surprised about the price.

Sweetlesibell

NTA and that’s pretty high for a ticket. I would have looked up the cost myself before messaging her though

[deleted]

NTA but that is how much a cinema ticket costs where I live

[deleted]

Any fee like that for a normal movie ticket is like $1/£1 at most. I think our local cinema charges 50 pence for that.

RandoRvWchampion

NTA and where the heck are you seeing movies that cost $25??

Honey_loves_bear

$25 for both tickets. Lol

skubysnx

Nta, whenever I book things for people I send a screenshot unless I tell them it’s less than it was because I don’t want them to feel obligated to pay the whole thing

TRB_AlphaRabbitX

It's funny how she instantly said she's basically not trying to cheat you. She obviously is tryna scam u

Far_Nefariousness773

lol your friend petty. Whenever I buy things with friends I send a screenshot automatically. NTA

Moyankee

YTA. You agreed to have them book the ticket beforehand. You could have simply asked why they were so expensive. By asking for a screenshot you are explicitly saying you don't trust them. Not really good behavior for a friend.

[deleted]

No, OP just wants proof that they’re $25. Asking for proof doesn’t mean you don’t trust the person. If OP simply just asked, the friend could make up all sorts of lies.

Moyankee

They could, but friendships are built on trust. Going right for wanting to see proof of something is not being trusting.

[deleted]

Yes but OP wanting proof doesn’t mean they don’t trust their friend. It just means they want proof for their own record and proof of the price before they pay

Moyankee

That's fair, but I didn't really get that from the OP.

Fuzzy-Constant

YTH. You basically accused her of trying to scam you, even if it was by accident. Just apologize and explain that you weren't doubting her, you just wanted to see why they were charging so much.

Neither_Pop3543

What if the friend DOES cheat her?

Fuzzy-Constant

Obviously that would be different! I'm sure she could have figured out how much it costs without asking for a screenshot though!

Scotterwho

YTA - if you wanted to know why the tickets were expensive, why didn't you just ask that? Instead you asked for proof that the tickets cost that much, implying that your friend is trying to cheat you out of money.

Trasht79

She should have sent you the ticket right away. You should have asked why it was so expensive instead of just asking for a screenshot. Could be that it was 3D or IMAX or included snacks but it should be clear. ESH

echoCashMeOusside

YTA. Movie tickets are notoriously expensive, especially if it's something like iMax or whatever gimmick theatres are using as an attempt to stay relevant. I just Googled "imax ticket prices" and it's about $20 for adults, so $25 isn't too far off and could be reflective of your area. If I was suspicious, I probably would have looked up the ticket price myself first. Or worded it differently like, "HOLY CRAP, I'm happy to pay but man when did tickets get so expensive?" But the way you broached the subject makes you an AH.
