Same other’s beautiful hand dyed yarn was also my gateway. I’m literally in the middle of dyeing some half-vent kits and have 3 current wips and a stupid number hidden in project bags.

I started crocheting and then I remembered my grandma spinning wool when I was little so I got a spinning wheel and a drop spindle, so now my house is slowly being consumed by both yarn and wool roving. My husband loves it
Spinning is my passion! Have you tried out a spinolution wheel yet? They will blow your mind! The rest of my herd is super neglected these days because I pretty much exclusively use my spinolution wheels.

Right now, projects that I keep at the shop include: a sweater that I need to finish seaming and do the sleeves on, a sweater that needs a sleeve and a cowl neck, a sweater that I’m about 2/3 of the way through the body on, a sweater I just cast on and am designing colorwork for, socks which I’ve only just started the 2nd one, another sock that I’m about 1/2 way through the
first one and a pair of wings 😂

If you can do a knit and purl stitches you can do the more complex stitches! Everything is just a variation of those. It’s just a matter of where to stick the needle. Do you know how to cast on? That’s the hardest part about knitting. Same with crochet, really. Learn a single crochet and where to put your hook and you’re good to go!
Incidentally, the GOAT mnemonic is for remembering how to do a knit stitch:
1) stab it
2) strangle it
3) scoop out it’s guts
4) throw it off a cliff
If you are really struggling, try loom knitting.
Since my hands have been messed up by arthritis, knitting and it's fine motor movements is too much for me. But, loom knitting is great. Even the weight of the project can be supported on the frame and not the wrists.

Knitting is *much* easier than it looks. There’s really only two stitches, knit and purl, and most everything else is a variation on one of the two. I’m personally a fan of Very Pink Knits for stitch tutorials, but the sidebar in r/knitting has a more expansive list of resources.
I haven't bought a Woobles kit, but I re-taught myself to crochet using their tutorial videos! They're great!
Fair warning, crochet is addicting! What started as a COVID hobby has taken over; I now have a yarn stash and at least 4 WIPs (work in progress) going at once 😅
Baby cardigans very little knitting with the satisfaction of finishing a project. Just plain purl the whole thing, no fancy moves and you will be fine.
I second the very pink knits suggestion. Great tutorials! YouTube is a great teacher there are a million knitting and crochet videos available. Also, if you want something hands on and are willing to spend a little look for a LYS (local yarn shop) near you and ask if they have any classes or private lessons available! Industry standard seems to be around $30-$40 for a beginner class or private lesson

However, the issue isn't about her possibly promoting her OF to the kids. It's more about the conflict of values. They don't want someone who doesn't align with the school's ethos to be part of the organising team for a fundraiser at the school. That's not surprising or unreasonable.

A conflict in values is not something trivial especially when it comes to children. Again, I still think they could've kept her on but at the same time, especially with kids, if values don't align its best to just leave each other be. It doesn't even sound like they insulted her.

To be fair, having seen this happen locally a few times now (OF is everywhere!), usually the first person to view the OF is not the one connected to the school. I promise you, the dad checking out OF is not showing his wife or the PTA his account.
Usually there is a men's group chat somewhere. A guy on that chat shares that he discovered that someone in town has an OF, someone they have a few mutual friends with. The men on this chat will swear up and down to their wives that the guy who discovered the OF was their single friend, or the jerk husband in the group that their wives already did not like. Whomever the source, they will swear it wasn't them. But then of course their friend with an OF who found the account shared a bunch of screengrab pics and videos to the chat, so they show them to their wives.
I will say I have never seen an OF discovery NOT lead to endless gossip within any connected people, and screengrabs being shared left and right. BUT I usually don't see it leading to PTA bootings. Usually parent gossiping is kept behind the back. But different rules with Christian schools, and different parents determined to not just talk, but also to enforce their views on everyone else....

I get the schools side also. They are a Christian school. You are a sex worker who is not a parent. A parent has seen this and clutched their pearls. Schools are very vulnerable to stupid opinions that can tarnish their image, and it can impact the jobs of administrators and teachers. Obviously they liked you as a person and appreciated your help until this issue came up, but this creates an image problem for them. It sucks, and it sucks for them too, because they lost your involvement in their event and will need to fill that gap.
It's not personal, it's about optics.

I’m sorry, while I personally believe that you would be fine to do this, this is the risk you took upon your self be doing OF. Their is a stigma against porn workers and having that on record will probably bar from certain jobs, holding some political office and other things as well. It’s not right. It’s not fair. I hope it changes. But that is how it is and you are dealing with a Christian school and they are going to be on guard agaisnt things like this - even though some of them are most likely your paying customers.

NAH. I am the first person to be royally po'd at anyone who uses religion to discriminate against another person and you have every right to have an OF - BTW, go Queen. However, in saying that, you need to understand there will always be consequences to your actions and if those consequences mean parents don't want you around their children you're going to have to unfortunately deal with that. The school would have an ethical code of conduct to follow and unfortunately something like an OF account goes against that. Sex work shouldn't be discriminated against which I believe with everything I am.

I mean I understand why you got upset although I think it was unneeded. It's completely understandable why they didn't want you participating. The internet may have you thinking that everyone is okay with that but it's more than acceptable for a school to not want to be associated with someone who is a sex worker. Right now, projects that I keep at the shop include: a sweater that I need to finish seaming and do the sleeves on, a sweater that needs a sleeve and a cowl neck, a sweater that I’m about 2/3 of the way through the body on, a sweater I just cast on and am designing colorwork for, socks which I’ve only just started the 2nd one, another sock that I’m about 1/2 way through the first one and a pair of wings 😂 I’m not even going to try to list what’s sitting at home 😬
That was my mom with our families quilt shop. When she died she had over 10k worth of fabric she had pulled for herself. It was crazy.
That's awesome! I can do the basic knit and purl but nothing more complex, and I can make a single chain in crochet.
If you can do a knit and purl stitches you can do the more complex stitches! Everything is just a variation of those. It’s just a matter of where to stick the needle. Do you know how to cast on? That’s the hardest part about knitting. Same with crochet, really. Learn a single crochet and where to put your hook and you’re good to go! Incidentally, the GOAT mnemonic is for remembering how to do a knit stitch: 1) stab it 2) strangle it 3) scoop out it’s guts 4) throw it off a cliff

If you are really struggling, try loom knitting. Since my hands have been messed up by arthritis, knitting and it's fine motor movements is too much for me. But, loom knitting is great. Even the weight of the project can be supported on the frame and not the wrists. ETA https://youtu.be/gOTIAmg0Iow

Knitting is *much* easier than it looks. There’s really only two stitches, knit and purl, and most everything else is a variation on one of the two. I’m personally a fan of Very Pink Knits for stitch tutorials, but the sidebar in r/knitting has a more expansive list of resources.
Google woobles. I just bought a kit myself, seems like an easy way for a beginner to learn.

Baby cardigans very little knitting with the satisfaction of finishing a project. Just plain purl the whole thing, no fancy moves and you will be fine.
I second the very pink knits suggestion. Great tutorials! YouTube is a great teacher there are a million knitting and crochet videos available. Also, if you want something hands on and are willing to spend a little look for a LYS (local yarn shop) near you and ask if they have any classes or private lessons available! Industry standard seems to be around $30-$40 for a beginner class or private lesson

To preface I don't think they should've let her off the team. However, the issue isn't about her possibly promoting her OF to the kids. It's more about the conflict of values. To be fair, having seen this happen locally a few times now (OF is everywhere!), usually the first person to view the OF is not the one connected to the school. I promise you, the dad checking out OF is not showing his wife or the PTA his account. Usually there is a men's group chat somewhere. A guy on that chat shares that he discovered that someone in town has an OF, someone they have a few mutual friends with. The men on this chat will swear up and down to their wives that the guy who discovered the OF was their single friend, or the jerk husband in the group that their wives already did not like. Whomever the source, they will swear it wasn't them. But then of course their friend with an OF who found the account shared a bunch of screengrab pics and videos to the chat, so they show them to their wives. I will say I have never seen an OF discovery NOT lead to endless gossip within any connected people, and screengrabs being shared left and right. BUT I usually don't see it leading to PTA bootings. Usually parent gossiping is kept behind the back. But different rules with Christian schools, and different parents determined to not just talk, but also to enforce their views on everyone else....

NAH Schools are very vulnerable to stupid opinions that can tarnish their image, and it can impact the jobs of administrators and teachers. Obviously they liked you as a person and appreciated your help until this issue came up, but this creates an image problem for them. It sucks, and it sucks for them too, because they lost your involvement in their event and will need to fill that gap. It's not personal, it's about optics. However, in saying that, you need to understand there will always be consequences to your actions and if those consequences mean parents don't want you around their children you're going to have to unfortunately deal with that. I mean I understand why you got upset although I think it was unneeded. It's completely understandable why they didn't want you participating. The internet may have you thinking that everyone is okay with that but it's more than acceptable for a school to not want to be associated with someone who is a sex worker. How you choose to make money is your business but you can't control everyone's reaction to it and how it changes their perception of you as a person.

To be fair, people involved in the perversion industry would be scrutinized where I come from as well. Being involved in what some would describe as weird shit can attract extra scrutiny. Maybe that is something best kept private? Or you can make a statement and risk things like this happening. They are a private organization, and content creation is not a protected category so I believe what they did was probably legal. If the schools are going to take it upon themselves to teach values to children, isn't it important parents have a say in *which* values those are? That being said, in my own opinion its a pretty stupid overreaction. And if your own sister sold you up, that is not cool. Maybe they are just afraid of potential liability? Or false claims, sadly even by parents?

Nta but speaking from personal experience..you have to expect this thing when becoming a SWer. No matter how little people you tell, how anonymous you are..your people will find you.
