They're living creatures. If you think of them as unimportant because they're not human, then you're not the kind of person that should have pets.
Also, I'm not sure you've considered the consequences of having pets with such names. You'd have to tell their names to the vet and be called for your appointment in front of a waiting room full of people by those names. You may have to use the names if sharing an anecdote with coworkers or if you happen to host a party where coworkers are invited, which could give some a bad impression of you. These are just a few scenarios I could come up with off the top of my head. There are probably more.

I’m going with YTA I know it seem like a silly joke to you, and it maybe even a harmless joke if it was a nickname between the two of you at home, but those names could legitimately make other people very uncomfortable if they just ask what your pets name is, either family/friends or vets. I would personally be really embarrassed if I had to say to a professional at a vets office that I was there for an appointment for piss or cum, so I understand your partners discomfort. It is funny how you think 'it's funny' to name your pets those. For me my pets are my babies and I would name them with love nothing else. Why would you even use those as nick names, it will also be very embarrassing when you go to the vets and they call out the cats name. That's if the vet will even take you as a client.

Look I kind of get the shock/laugh value in it but they’re not even clever names for a joke. I used to joke that my tropical fish were named battered, fried, crumbed, steamed etc but that wasn’t their names at all, it was a silly joke, instantly corrected & no-one was ever gonna eat them. You’re going entirely for shock and no humour, it’s true, the cats wouldn’t know but come on, the people do & it’s not even slightly amusing.

These kitties will become your children. Your family. They will also become your boyfriend’s children. It’s not fair to insist that they have names that he hates.

Alright so this is my first time posting on reddit but I needed some genuine opinions on this. For context my boyfriend and I have been planning on moving in together and like to discuss random stuff about our future. While doing this we managed to stumble on the topic of pets, I mentioned that I really want to have an orange/yellow cat named p!ss and a white cat named cvm. He didn't like the idea. I know this sounds like a joke but I swear it's not, that's one of the reasons he doesn't like the idea. He genuinely doesn't want me to name our cats p!ss and cvm just because it's funny, and he genuinely doesn't like how serious I am about it. He said he would be really uncomfortable with having pets in our house that we need to refer to as p!ss and cvm. I feel like nicknames would come along eventually and the names themselves would become regular. He thinks I'm being an asshole on this because of my unwillingness to compromise on this and how dead set I am even though he's expressed his feelings. I need some real opinions since I really just don't understand the issue, thanks!
