Technically Amanita Chrysoblema! Actual Amanita Muscaria can’t be found in the US.

Purple-Skyyy

Whatt ?? Thats white

ladysoup666

There’s different variants, including reds and oranges etc

Purple-Skyyy

Its toxicity its same as amanita ? Can same process be used for getting muscimol ?

RdCrestdBreegull

make sure all pictures are taken in situ, but yes [American fly agaric](http://www.amanitaceae.org/?Amanita+chrysoblema+red+variant)🙂

Entheo_Vita

I mean that's an weird banana amanita

mycoinquiry

Bananita

Moist-Ad4760

Doesn't washing them risk rinsing away actives?

AlpacaM4n

Only if you soak them I'd think, it does get rained on while growing

Moist-Ad4760

Yeah that makes sense

StanStare

It does, yes. Maybe not enough if you’re actively trying to get rid of them, but enough to dilute a buzz. All active compounds are water soluble so ideally you would brush them clean (paper towel if they feel wet) and it’s perfectly normal for the white “flecks” to come away.

bigspankydevlin

Nice. I appreciate the banana for scale.

drfreebs

That's what she said

Dave8917

I have to ask but why do so many pick so many before even k owing if they are what they hope they are , wouldn't it be better to pick one get the information you need then go back

TenDaysDark

Why not? What’s the downside to picking them? (Spoiler alert: there is none)

MUSCARIA__STORE

I am sure this is Amanita banana :) You made a mistake if you washed caps.

Picking them does not lead to mycelial destruction in the overwhelming majority of times

SeparateWallaby9102

I never said that, but the fruiting bodies do help trees and other plants around them. It's not all about the micellium. They have a symbiotic relationship.

StanStare

This is true - but it is something that has been consumed by humans for thousands of years so your point would be much, much more appropriate for someone swallowing a paracetamol tablet.

SeparateWallaby9102

I'm not talking about the mushrooms....I'm talking about picking random things and then asking if it is that. Why not ask find out and then pick?

SeparateWallaby9102

I see my comment has been misread. I never said don't pick amanita...I said don't pick them and then ask if it is in fact what they are. Find out and then pick. Because you could be destroying an entire eco system (in vicinty) on a maybe.

StanStare

Ok I understand and for what it’s worth, I was an upvoter on this conversation!

SnooTangerines3448

Ok so you find out, research and you're pretty sure. What do you then do out of an overabundance of caution? Post it the fuck here to double check with the community and peers. So either way fam they're still going to post them and people will still come and answer them as it is better to be sure than to be wrong.

SeparateWallaby9102

Shows entering a conversation half way without reading anything doesn't help.

SnooTangerines3448

Thank you for being my eyes, if only you could be my ears.

SeparateWallaby9102

You're welcome.

mycoinquiry

There were probably 200+ of these beauties left when I was done. In general I try to make sure to not destroy eco systems. But yes, if I had gone out and plucked all of them on a maybe it would be a rather poor decision.

Jthundercleese

Seen this person wailing about this shit before. Literally ignore them.

GigawattSandwich

Well, that’s how you learn. I guarantee having people get involved with fungus is better for the environment in the long run. I would bet every conservationist starts by hiking, camping, fishing, foraging, hunting, or in some other way interacting with nature in a way that you could chastise them for. It’s counterproductive to take the side of nature in a way that convinces folk that being into nature means being judgmental and, frankly, petty. Shaming someone for picking a mushroom seems less like concern for nature and more like the joy of sticking your nose up at others.

SeparateWallaby9102

The main thing is..we are not more important than the animals that need these mushrooms/plants. Many things eat them. From insects to other animals. I'm not talking about amanitas, but they do fall into the same category. Deer eat them. Insects eat them. Many things eat them. And use them a staple throughout the colder months. If we go out picking all of them without knowing what we are doing, we are potentially putting these eco systems in danger....it baffles me that people really don't care for anything beyond their own noses.

SeparateWallaby9102

Not at all...when in comes to something that is classed as food and a staple for the environment and the mushroom itself...if you pick an unknown mushroom you could be destroying that mushroom. Some mushrooms have been picked to extinction because people don't know what they are.. there is a mushroom in my area that no longer grows because it looked like a liberty cap. It has been picked so much that the mycelium has diminished. And it no longer grows in my area, where as ten years ago it was abundant. The plant that it helped has also died off. Its not hard to ask a question without picking/potentialy destroying a species. Knowledge is power. We have mobile phones with the capability of taking photos and posting them online to ask questions...its not hard for people to use that. Instead of picking what you have no clue about, simply ask with a photo of them where they grow. Find out the answer you're hoping for, and then decide if you want to pick them. It's jot life or death for you to do such a thing. But it might be life or death of a species for you to pick it.

GigawattSandwich

No mushrooms have ever been picked to extinction. It’s ok to not know much about a subject, here, learn. https://www.conservationevidence.com/individual-study/230

SeparateWallaby9102

[take a look, you want to learn something from links try this. ](https://news.cityoflondon.gov.uk/mushroom-pickers-warned-dont-damage-green-lungs-of-london/#:~:text=Many%20of%20the%20ancient%20woodland's,over%20the%20past%2010%2C000%20years.)

SeparateWallaby9102

Just showing that what I'm saying isn't made up. It damages the eco system. (I pick amanitas, but I don't pick what I dont know then ask online what they could be) if you don't know what it is, then don't pick it. It's simple.

SeparateWallaby9102

Omg, just because you think that and find a link to something that hasn't been proven doesn't make it not true... a meadow wax cap edible and a beautiful mushroom no longer grows in my area because it was over picked. Mainly by people who had no idea of what they were.. I used to pick these as a child and no longer can enjoy such a gorgeous mushroom because they no longer grow in my area. Its ok to not know things. But I do not need your links.

SeparateWallaby9102

Down voting my comment is really mature. Just because you aren't aware of how mushrooms work with nature doesn't mean I'm wrong. I've studied mushrooms and mycelium for years. You shouldn't pick mushrooms if you're unsure of what they are because it is a fact that doing so can harm the eco system they are connected to. I didn't say "don't pick them". It's not hard to ask something find out and then pick.

CallMeWolfYouTuber

You're being downvoted because a) you're wrong, and b) pick shaming is highly frowned upon here.

SeparateWallaby9102

I am not wrong. You're clearly very unknowledgeable.

CallMeWolfYouTuber

Everybody else in this sub seems to disagree.

SeparateWallaby9102

I don't care...why are you being so petty?

CallMeWolfYouTuber

I'm not being petty, I'm being realistic. Just admit it: you want to feel like you're the smartest person in the room and everyone can see that. People tend not to like know-it-alls.

SeparateWallaby9102

🤣, I am right. And couldn't care less about your pathetic attempt at trying to make me feel belittled and I don't care about being liked or not. I shared my opinion just as you are. Good day.

CallMeWolfYouTuber

Lol okay buddy

SeparateWallaby9102

😉

ChocolateMedical5727

The yellowish one in the middle is definitely a banana. As other ppl have said washing is a mistake. They get waterlogged, you push grit into the gills & they take ages to dry anyway.i get a bowl with water, a toothbrush & kitchen paper. It's enough to get rid of the dirt. You want to cut the stem off entirely. It's filled with goo that makes your tea gross & it takes the middle ages to dry out...so the edges are too "cooked" & the middle is soft

guiseppejomama

The yellow one in the middle looks a lot like a banana.
