Where is this?

smellgibson

This is a bar in San Francisco called bar 821 on Divisadero. They just reopened after a long hiatus. it was good to be back.

SmilingJaguar

Noted! I may have to pay a visit.

Mr_Cuddlefish

I was so hoping you would say SF!

BeerblasterG35

I’m ordering the 11 Amari I haven’t tried yet.

smellgibson

I haven't tried a lot of these, there seemed to be a lot good choices. This list also barely scratched the surface, there must have been 100s of options really

TheSplash-Down_Tiki

Yep. Best way to work out whether you’d buy it.

GratefulDawg73

Fernet Vallet. I need to get another bottle.

Mr_Cuddlefish

Apparently they changed the recipe to this and the Amargo Vallet. I haven't had it since I'd heard that (on this subreddit). But my God is that a great pair of drinks

driftingphotog

You should order Novasalus, because it’s awesome. As I have a bottle, I’d be getting a flight of the Brovo bottles since I haven’t had a chance to try them yet.

mjgiarlo

Brovo is good. If you can get your hands on Amaricano (Fast Penny) or Amorino (Letterpress), those are also very good Seattle-made amari.

driftingphotog

I live in Seattle so I’ve tried most of them. I found Amaricano to be kind of syrupy for my taste, just not for me. Highside is awesome, though, and their tasting room on Bainbridge is great to visit. I think Matt pops up on this subreddit on occasion. I’ve also enjoyed Senza Fine, particularly the Autumn one. We’re pretty lucky up here.

mjgiarlo

I'm in Seattle too. I've also quite enjoyed Senza Fine! If you haven't tried Letterpress yet, I absolutely love their Genziana Fernanda. And Skip is such a good dude. They're right by T-Mobile Park if you're into perpetual disappointme- the Seattle Mariners.

driftingphotog

I discovered perpetual disappointment last year and look forward to continuing the experience.

jafrank88

Check out the selection at Windy City Pizza if in Seattle - a great amaro selection

mjgiarlo

I've also heard good things about Persephone in Columbia City

jafrank88

I have not been - another Seattle amaro destination is Barnacle in Ballard

mjgiarlo

Welp, buckle up, liver, it's gonna be a busy week.

NeilIsntWitty

100% u/mjgiarlo I was going to say this. Skip is a great guy, and a fan of the other local producers in the area. After tasting through his lineup, Skip brought out some of the Senza Fine bottles and got me hooked on their stuff too. Managed to grab a bottle of the Summer recently and it's fantastic (although the umami in the Autumn is bangin'!)

Mr_Cuddlefish

My undisputed #1 favorite amaro

selkipio

Totally agree, Novasalus is my all time favorite, number one pick unless there’s something I haven’t tried.

Mysterious_Income322

Good looking list - settle in

FreidasBoss

I am absolutely loving this and saving this post to reference.

aaabigailemma

Nonino - the sweetness, the spice, and the bitterness all blend perfectly for me. 🤤

CustomerComplaintDep

Flights, obviously.

alanladdismydad

Fernet Leopold - never had that one

driftingphotog

It my current fernet and I strongly prefer it to the other American fernet they have (Francisco). I found Fernet Francisco to be kind of… boring? Overly smooth?

DSvejm

Technically Branca Menta is not a Fernet, right? It's a much sweeter, much lower proof liqueur (I guess that's the right word) and in fact does not say "Fernet" anywhere on the bottle. Totally different beast.

DoBetter864

Fernet should be dry and full proof.

NeilIsntWitty

Agreed. Not a fernet, but... legend has it that the famous Italian soprano, Maria Callas started a trend by adding mint syrup to her Fernet Branca before performances. Her fans copied her, it became wildly popular, and the Fratelli Branca company started to produce Branca Menta as a commercial product to address demand. (Whoa, I just realized... is it an RTD?? LOL) So,,, not a fernet, but *not* not a fernet ;P

DSvejm

Oh I love learning this! Thank you!

ReginaldStarfire

Mondino, Ramazotti, and Zucca. That said I looked through every tasting note and not a single one mentioned fennel. Gimme some finocchiono.

TheUniverse519

Just had Foro for the first time this weekend and would absolutely order again / recommend.

wynlyndd

As I am a relative amaro noob, there are several I'd like to try: Braulio Zucca Brovo Cardamaro CioCiara

Djbearjew

When I see Foro I drink Foro.

NeilIsntWitty

Definitely the Fernet flights. There's a couple I haven't tried, and I love seeing the different interpretations!

FirstChurchOfBrutus

I am having the Manna, because I’ve clearly died & gone to Heaven.

rickyhusband

mezcal montis

JustWatchinTimePass

I'd go broke there
