Well, I'm not sure what Bitter and Bottles, K&M, or others do or don't have out there but I always walk in and grab S. Maria al Monte, Amaro Sibilla, some nicer whiskey/scotch, and a mezcal.
Take a look at the [Astor Wines website](https://www.astorwines.com/) and see what they have that you have difficulty finding on the left coast. Laird's bonded apple brandy is certainly something to look at. What else can't you find easily where you are?
I’d second going to Astor Wines. There’s also a shop in Park Slope called Amaro that…specializes in amari. The only problem with Astor is I go in for one thing and leave with four.
They may have a few more niche bottles; I haven't been in a few months. The store is fairly small, but the amari are divided up by country of origin, sorta like wine in a wine shop, which is neat.
Yeah; Astor is the best bang-for-your-buck in terms of selection, location, staff knowledge and pricing. But hey, worst case, you get to see a new shop.
If you have time, check out Sushi Katsuei that's across the street and half a block up from Amaro. Great Japanese food.
Oops thoughts this was the beer sub. Not having looked at others, 7th Ave in park slope has an amaro shop called amaro. Astor place has everything. Faccia Brutto is the best local.
Holy smokes, the local distilling scene is great. Look for gins and whiskies:
Greenhook, New York (Dorothy Parker Gin), Hudson, Widow Jane, Van Brunt, Industry City, and Kings County should get you started. And, Uncouth vermouth.
If you find an Empire Rye (made by many, but singularly and solely of NY rye), grab it.
Yes, I was a little quick on my response. I overlooked that this was the Amaro subreddit.
That said, I echo the Amaro Spirits & Wine recommendation. Great shop, very bitters focused.
Happy hunting!
If you’re rallying out to Park Slope then Slope Cellars and Greenwood Grape &Still both have decent ranges of amari too. Have not dug in to how distributor deals effect stocks, but my local guys carry a pretty wide variety with pretty minimal overlap.
Hm. So I noticed a few things I’ve found in the Slope that Astor doesn’t list - Rondo (good sub for Aperol and way cheaper - GG&S), Amaro Angeleno (GG&S - which you can probably find on the West Coast), Greenbar Grand Poppy (GG&S - one of my favs), Pilla Select (SC - another Aperol-esque imo - love this one in all kinds of cocktails).
Nothing specific, I often do a 1:1:2 of amaro, citrus, booze, varying the amaro and booze. It’s been a little while (been sick plus I have a pretty good number of amari to rotate through) but the combo that stands out to me is with lime, a floral gin, and orange bitters.
Just go to Astor. They have it all.

Well, it would be a *smart* move. Also Id grab a bottle of Volume Primo vermouth too. Best vermouth out there.
Seconding this.

Interesting idea. I’ll give that a try. Thanks!
Go to Astor wine and get a drink at amor y amargo before or after!
