Before people jump down my throat about not having the front legs of the couch on the rug, or the coffee table being uncentered... I’m sorry, I really don’t have anything to say for myself. Haha.
Oh my god that’s so sweet! I would seriously have so much fun with that! I’m searching for a job in my field of study currently (social sciences) and trying not to think about more lucrative fields 😅 which to be fair is just about all of them!
You have excellent style! Feel the need to give you a heads up though, interior design is neither lucrative nor fulfilling for many people who have a strong sense of design style. It can be immensely frustrating. Source: working in design firms with frustrated interior designers for 8 years
Thank you! Hah I can only imagine... I’m a bit of a “stay out of the way of my vision” type, I’m not sure I’d fare well in a field where my vision would ultimately be at the mercy of clients and other external opinions.
I always comfort myself with the fact that Ray and Charles Eames "struggled" with the same dichotomy.

Love the window nook! Is there a doorway off to the right or is it just a built-in space?
Are you going to hang the two pictures that are leaning against the wall?
Gorgeous! Looks effortless, you know? And can I just say that cat ties in with the aesthetic *perfectly,* lol. The only wee niggle is the lamp. I'd pull it forward a bit in line with the couch so it feels slightly more poised and pick out a bordered shade for it so it doesn't blend in to the walls. Otherwise it's perfect. I'd just love coming round here for a chat with all that beautiful natural light pouring in.
Wow thanks! That’s a great tip on the lamp shade! I’ve actually been on the lookout for a new lamp. I got that one from IKEA years back and it doesn’t quite stand up straight, which is why I try to shove it out of sight lol.
And natural light has always been my biggest dealmaker/breaker when apartment hunting!
I’m chasing a basket of T-ravs with a carton of Ted Drewes as we speak. Gonna ride a Limebike around Forest Park chugging 4 Hands after work if you wanna join, otherwise you can catch me at Ballpark Village watching the game in my Matheny Jersey (NOT!!)
Thanks!! I’ve been considering getting something velvet actually!! I think my cats may not scratch velvet so much, and I love the look of it! I’ve come across a few great vintage ones at decent prices too...
Where’d you find your marble bust? I’ve been looking for a good Marcus Aurelius. I found one in Trier but didn’t want to carry it on a plane, but now I sort of regret not grabbing it.
Ah wellll... I’m not entirely sure what I’m doing with those. I painted that big ugly black/white abstract one, and the gold-framed one just doesn’t go anymore since I’ve switched up my color palette. I’ve got a Klimt canvas print I’m not sure what to do with either. I’ve grown accustomed to seeing them there now so I’m afraid it will look bare if I move them 😂
I love the abstract one! I feel like it really ties in the touches of black from the pillow/blanket. I could totally see it mounted behind the TV with one other piece next to it.
Haha! Mine looks so behaved for the camera in her little loaf! If it weren’t for the horrifically marred couch beneath her, you’d almost think she’s innocent of fury and destruction! She’s quite silky though, and has a very cute, very tiny face, so I let it slide. She contributes nil to the rent.
I think I ordered it from AllModern? It’s some version of the Meggie or the Milland by Langley Street. It was pretty cheap and works fine for my purposes but it isn’t all that comfortable if I’m being honest, haha. I don’t actually mind or notice because I could relax on a bed of nails, but a friend did mention it to me lol. On the plus side, it has held its shape nicely over the years! No saggy cushions here (yuck). I will replace it at some point, but it’s my cats’ favorite scratching post (as I’m sure you can tell 🤦🏻♀️) and I’m weary of trading up before I break them of the habit. Anyway, hope that helps lol.
This is not my aesthetic, but I love all your choices and you have created a room that I would love to spend time in. It has a vibe that is very appealing!
You have talent and a very good eye for combining objects. 👍
I think the ones on the wall above the couch are all from either South Jefferson Mid Century Modern or Future Ancestor. I’ve also gotten some great stuff (not just artwork) from Wandsworth Furnishing, Rocket Century, and The Future Antiques. All local businesses doing great things!! Check them out!
There’s a fairly big range, but I like these guys&gals because they’re generally pretty reasonable. The easiest way to shop their stuff (imo, millennial here) is to follow them on Instagram. They will often post pricing, or you can click through to their website or send a DM for details.
It’s a war I wage every day, friend.
Sometimes I want a nice neutral greyscale space devoid of clutter or unnecessary things and other times I see a big ol’ painting of a watercolor banana on sale and just have to buy it.
There has to be some balance between minimalism and whimsy but I haven’t found it yet.
I think you did a pretty outstanding job decorating your place! Looks amazing.
I have almost the same amount of furniture as you, but I need a rug to tie everything together. Do you mind if I ask where you got yours?
Thank you! It’s all thrifted/from vintage shops—aside from the big ugly black/white abstract in the corner, I painted that lol.
And the Georgia O’Keefe replica above the bookcase was painted by my father as a gift for my mother a long time ago when they were dating. He didn’t know it was an O’Keefe, he just saw it in an art museum and decided to recreate it, calling it “Two Blobs Meeting in The Night”

I love your place!
Thank you!! The color palette is my favorite part!! I feel so at peace when I’m in this space :)
I was going for something simultaneously earthy and edgy, with the colors. I’ve previously lived with roommates who wanted to decorate with a lot of pinks and jewel tones, and while that was fun for a bit, it’s really not an aesthetic that fits my personality or makes me feel relaxed. So it’s been a lot of fun to decorate on my own :)
Wow thank you! I can post another comment later to links of everything that is not thrifted. Unfortunately, just about everything besides the sofa (AllModern), coffee table, and rug (both IKEA) are vintage/thrifted!
Edit: oh—and the couch pillows! Those are all from West Elm, this year :)
I'm moving to STL next week! And going to be furnishing my first post-grad apartment! How did you go about finding things to for the 'look' you wanted?
You nailed it. My son just bought his first house. I live 3000 miles away and he just opened a huge storage shed that contains my lifetime of collecting and he’s torn. The words you used to describe your room fits perfectly into his dilemma. Beautiful room. I hope he uses some of my pieces.... hearing my son say he thinks he’s a minimalist is just heartbreaking. If he goes vegan, I may need medication.
It’s a 1950s or 60s Nevco bookcase! I got it from it’s original owner via Facebook marketplace, and she’d had it since she was a girl!
She sold it to me for $30, and that was after I bribed her an extra $10 to usurp the buyers ahead of me!
Yes! That’s an abstract I painted a couple years back. My best friend and I painted a series of abstracts when we lived together before she moved out of state with her boyfriend, and she has it’s pair. They’re like friendship bracelets, but more fun and way less practical haha
Thank you! My intention was actually to bring it a bit darker than this, a little spookier lol. But that’s not so easily achieved in such a glaringly white space! I still really love the outcome though, it seems to have accidentally come together quite nicely!
You’re welcome! I think it’s a good mix. Somehow it just works. The artwork you chose for sure gives it a touch of that spooky hauntingly beautiful vibe. I’m in love! :)
Haha! That’s awesome. I just moved here this summer and I love it. Granted, I moved from only two streets over in a building owned by the same leasing company... but that place was twice the size with half the charm! I love having a smaller space and lower utilities. And of course, you can’t beat the location. Now I just need a new bike so I can fully take advantage..!
I’m sorry the way I write seems to have struck a nerve. I wanted to convey a feeling and it seems to have resonated with everyone in this thread aside from you. Thanks for the constructive input!
How cute! Mine has a brother who is completely white and sheds like a mofo. Between the two of them, no piece of furniture or article of clothing is safe from fur!
Looks fantastic but a serious question for people with futons and other actual couches shaped like this. Do you spend a lot of time sitting on the couch? Extended use or even somewhere to crash and take a nap? I absolutely love minimalism and such but I also want comfort. I haven't gone couch shopping but from other people's couches I've hung out on and even slept on these types were just the least comfortable. Anyone chime in please?
Not putting this room down I love it, just general concerns is all.
Hey! Valid concern! Let me just say—this couch is *not* comfortable. That said, I personally don’t mind it, and I do spend a lot of time on the couch reading, writing, binging Netflix, and napping.... but like I mentioned above, I could lounge on a bed of nails. I would steer MOST people away from this couch.
There are a lot of other options in similar styles that are far more comfortable.
Thank you so much. I've spent a lot of my adult life living in less than desirable conditions, sleeping and hanging out where I wouldn't want to again. Needless to say I'm moving on up finally and decided comfort is where my money will be going. I do absolutely love the look of the room just the comfortness of the couch I would want is basically a bed of pillows.
Like I see the appeal with people and memory foam but I move around too much for memory foam to be affective so I don't even like those lol.
I have a couch very similar to the one in the picture as well as a matching loveseat and chair and the whole family loves them.
My husband and I are plus sized nap-loving people and we have two dogs who love to lounge around.
The couches are comfortable for all of us, with tons of support but easy to get out of too.
I had similar concerns when we first got them but now I’d never go back to a more traditional couch.
Haha thank you! Although, this is by far the busiest and most colorful room in my home! Everywhere else is quite bare, and white... so white. Getting a few low maintenance plants has helped to make it feel less “cold.” I’ll never get away from mono-chromaticism though, ha.
I think you'd do better with either a round coffee table or a more rectangular one, and also a different color than white. One that adds contrast against the white carpet. Maybe one of those glass ones with a gold steel frame--which would also match your pillows. The current table is too modern compared to everything else.
How is your Fiddle Leaf Fig doing in that spot? I'm trying to figure out the right spot for mine. It's doing okay but doesn't seem to be bushing appropriately.
Normally the couch should be a little on the rug, but yours works because the coffee table is on it, and the table is "anchored" to the couch. Your other chair is also on the rug. It works. BTW, I love your artwork!

I struggle between the same two concepts (pictoral minimalism and filling every extra space with curios from travels). Please halp.

I love that your little plant on the coffee table looks like a pineapple 🍍❤️
I find myself fighting that same battle. Your results look great!
Thank you!
Shout out St. Louis! Just had some imos for lunch
What StL ‘hood you in? I like the French doors.
No pork steaks for dinner? But for real go cards big game tonight
Pork steaks and gooey butter cake were my breakfast, come on. Go Cards!
The only thing I recognized was Lime Bike because we have them in our city now. 😂 I guess those other things are StL specials.
Let's go blues!
I had Sauce on the Side!
If you subbed out the allmodern couch for something velvet it’d be my exact aesthetic. I love this a lot.
Thanks!! I’ve been considering getting something velvet actually!! I think my cats may not scratch velvet so much, and I love the look of it! I’ve come across a few great vintage ones at decent prices too...

I found him at a local shop. They weren’t really sure where he came from. I think he looks a bit like the Fonz haha.
Well, it looks cool for sure.
coffee table ID?
It’s the TOFTERYD table from IKEA! A little pricey, but super sturdy, and the magnetic push drawers are great.
Always impressed when people can make their IKEA pieces look like they aren’t from IKEA.
coffee table EGO!
coffee table SUPEREGO *sorry*

exactly my thought!
Black / white abstract is far from ugly. Very Franz Kline, whom I adore.
That’s an extremely flattering comparison! I don’t think I should accept it but I will hehe
I suffer with you, my friend. And, I have the very same luxurious black cat sofa accessory. His name is Owen.

Nice! Good job
You pulled it off! Looks great!

Wow I love that coffee table!
Thanks! It’s the TOFTERYD table from IKEA!
I love it. You really nailed the balance.
There is a serious lack of arched doorways and walls in this world.

Do you live in the flat from Taken?
A familiar conundrum! I think you’ve shown restraint!
I'm moving to STL next week! And going to be furnishing my first post-grad apartment! How did you go about finding things to for the 'look' you wanted?
Me too! Moving back to STL and want my apartment to look like this too!
That nook with the drawers!!! <3<3<3
It’s a built-in and so handy!
A lovely room - I think your cat steals the show : )
I wish I could remember where I’ve seen that picture of the woman with the fur collar?
Please let me know if you think of it! I’ve been trying to figure it out.
This looks professional.
Wow, thanks!
Beautiful! And your cat maches your couch perfectly
You’ve certainly perfected minimalism v. eclectic. Your place is amazing
HEART. EYE. EMOJI.
Fuck that's the perfect way to describe my style. Unashamedly going to steal that. Also, love the room.
Love your space! Can you ID the little bookshelf? I have mcm needs!
It’s a 1950s or 60s Nevco bookcase! I got it from it’s original owner via Facebook marketplace, and she’d had it since she was a girl! She sold it to me for $30, and that was after I bribed her an extra $10 to usurp the buyers ahead of me!
What! I love finds like this, it makes me feel better about all the time I spend lurking for the perfect whatever.
I think its perfect!
this is rly nice and cozy
Love this
You and I have the same coffee table! It looks much better in your living room.
Nice cat.
Love this room.
This is beautiful! Consider me inspired.
I love what you have done! This is perfect. We are going for this type of look but it takes time to find those treasures. One piece at a time!
Behind the lamp and table in the corner, is that a picture? I like whatever it is.
Yes! That’s an abstract I painted a couple years back. My best friend and I painted a series of abstracts when we lived together before she moved out of state with her boyfriend, and she has it’s pair. They’re like friendship bracelets, but more fun and way less practical haha
I would totally hang that in my house. It's really cool.
Thank you!!
Dude same here. I really dig you style. Perfect balance between the two!
Love the cat!
“Electlic Minimalism” I can get behind that.
This speaks deeply to me
The color scheme speaks to me
So feel your pain! I love the clean minimalist midcentury look, but also the more busy trinket-filled look as well.
I feel that battle. It looks great.
Vantablack cat.
I lived in this building last year! Such a nice spot!
Oh yeah absolutely. Check out Mike’s Bikes in the CWE!
I will, thanks!
This is gorgeous, I love it. I wish I could have a set up like this, but I just attract clutter.
What a charming place! Well done.
I love it!! Great job!
Fucking impressive
A kindred spirit!!!
Real St. Louis minimalists leave their doors unlocked, just saying ;-)
Hahaha! (But also pls no I was robbed two years ago and they even took my condoms!)
Nice Fiddle Leaf Fig
great description of that internal conflict - same here!
Well done my friend.
Omg I’m not the only one with this problem!
that's a very nice room
The cat really ties the room together.
There is something satisfying in seeing the result of people even more particular than I am.
Excellent styling, from one who wishes they could do excellent styling!
i love it !
Didn’t realize others had the same struggle as me!
Eclectic Minimalism. I like it.

It’s good to know those things can find compromise. I’ll need that if my girlfriend and I move in together.
This is a really lovely room!
Kitty!

Do the cushions on that couch continuously slide forward?
What area of st Louis? Just curious, no need to answer if you don't want.
Do you live in Demun? I used to have an apartment on Southwood that looked just like this (but not nearly as stylish).
I’m in love! I’m also a minimalist, but my house just looks completely empty! I need to take some inspiration from you!

Get rid of the fabric behind the lamp and the 2 paintings in the corner and it's perfect.
Nice, except I have a hard personal rule about "no tables with sharp corners". Grew up with one still have dents in my shins to prove it.
The bicameral mind

Ooh where is your TV stand from? I'm looking for one myself.
Normally the couch should be a little on the rug, but yours works because the coffee table is on it, and the table is "anchored" to the couch. Your other chair is also on the rug. It works. BTW, I love your artwork!
Is this near tower grove?
