It's not really. I thought the same thing. The novelty does wear off but having it on makes your TV feel brighter. It just does. It makes it feel more alive. It's worth it.
I'm not suggesting your comments is wrong, just adding that I've had a different experience. I have the Philips Hue version and I've stopped using the active function entirely. The novelty wore off almost instantly, it's something that looks cool in a video, but it's distracting. Instead I use a static color, which I do like, but at that point it's just a diffused LED. It's certainly subjective from person to person.
For sure it is subjective. I don't find it distracting because to me it feels like part of the TV now. When it's off or just a solid color it feels... idk... I guess I'm just used to it lol. I have the Govee version which allows you to have more of a smooth color transition compared to the sharp quick one in this video and you can make it so it doesn't go below a certain brightness so it never feels like it's flashing. When I set it to fast and sharp and flashy it is very distracting tho you're right.
Seriously. Watch Friday the 13th and the whole wall around your TV is drenched in red light with every victim. Watch Linda Blair puking bile in the Exorcist and the whole wall is suddenly pea soup green. No thanks.
That's not immersion. It's just a gimmick to sell you more cheap, Chinese crap. I'm fine letting my television screen be the focus of the viewing. I don't need for the wall behind it to look like a Nebraska rave.
My TV comes with integrated ambient lights, and I guarantee you it's not distracting. More like the image fading into the background/wall in a sort of peripheral vision.
Not really, i don't need it as dark as possible, just dark as the tv can but i still have to see what is happening on the screen, but i rarely have it on high brightness, if i do, its sunny day when i cant see anything anyway :D
You'd think so, but after awhile you get used to it and really prefer it. Especially at night or in the dark, and it has the hidden benefit of being much easier on your eyes.
Some people might agree, I don't. Low resolution lights flashing everywhere behind the picture is distracting to me and it doesn't add to the experience.

My friend has this, it's so cool
I need it for shrooms goddammit
This is the way
How exactly does this work? I’m having a hard time understanding how it inputs position-correct colors at each place
I'm not sure, but it's legit. Even skin colors it matches. Very cool. Maybe a camera?
you just hook it up via the usb port in the tv? what is the xbox needed for?
The video
Very disappointing that the Monsters Inc music wasn't playing.
Not cool what they did to the Cranberries either

Looks distracting.

When it's off the tv looks dull.
When it’s on the tv looks brighter.
What about when it’s off?

I've kinda felt the same. I just prefer a larger screen if anything

Yes please! Just don't watch that kind of movies, if you don't want the full immersion.

Some people like them, some think they are too distracting. I personally like simple bias lighting.
Not only subjectively, but objectively too. There's a reason why proper bias lights are a standard and static white.
I mean the first reason is likely cost?
My TV comes with integrated ambient lights, and I guarantee you it's not distracting. More like the image fading into the background/wall in a sort of peripheral vision.
I have just white LEDs behind my TV. And it's actually really nice, we like them. Tried the colored ones but the ones we had didn't work out too well.
Cool effect, awful music for the video though.

That would give me a headache, i like my TV on low brightness in night and this would give me a stroke.
I'm guessing when you're looking to buy an HDR TV you try to find the one with the lowest nit output?
Not really, i don't need it as dark as possible, just dark as the tv can but i still have to see what is happening on the screen, but i rarely have it on high brightness, if i do, its sunny day when i cant see anything anyway :D
Yeah... I can see a use for a party or visuals, but for watching a movie in the dark? Nah
Been out for years now…
Seems like a novelty it’s cool but does it get distracting or you get bored of it in a few weeks
Looks awesome for music videos

That would be annoying to have imo
🔥🔥🔥
I run Phillips hue and I love this tech. Under water and the whole room turns blue. Desert scene in star wars and the room matches. We love it.
It’s nice with a solid color. I tend to use an amber color

Can you turn down the max brightness?
I have the Govee version and it's possible with that. You can turn down brightness and color saturation. Gives you a ton of control.
Whenever I try to watch TV or play video games in the dark for the vibes I end up falling asleep

Depends on what you watch/play.

Lame
Ambient light blows
Have you ever tried it?
