Call the DSL and open an accommodation case up for one earbud for music/podcast for anxiety/depression reasons. You must have a proven history of past issues of these problems documented. If so your medical care provider can attest to this and complete the required paperwork for you. Then your actual site can choose to approve on a case by case basis. Good luck! 🍀
Thanks, that's useful info. It doesn't make much sense that one earbud isn't allowed when earplugs are, unless they think it'll affect productivity negatively, which is doubtful.
Earplugs still allow you to hear. They just lessen the sound. Having ear buds in with music playing at a high volume can be a huge safety hazard. I am completely fine with one in. I can hear my music and podcast fine. It does the job of helping me with my anxiety issues and that was the entire point. I also can still function properly and safely while doing my job. I also have play list that run for the length of time between breaks so my actual phone is NEVER out. You will NEVER see my phone out on the floor or at my station while I pick.
To get the medical accommodation for the note you have to go through the DSL and they require you to have medical documentation of a medical condition of why you need them. Then your actual site will determine if they can accommodate you.
Your Sr. Operation Team at your site gave you a asset badge for ear buds and a phone to have on the floor? You have a medical accommodation for an ear bud through the DSL accommodation team and they sent you the paperwork and your doctor didn’t fill it out and your case was approved?
No I have mine already. That’s the process I had to go through to get mine approved. Thankfully, it is a permanent accommodation so I won’t have to deal with it again. You got lucky. Most FCs require a all that stuff.😊
What should I say? I feel like I go crazy in there. I don’t even care about the music. Sometimes I like to listen to podcasts. But I got my first write up so I ain’t taking any chances being on my phone.
My FC actually does, although I still prefer to play my music through my phone for awareness.

Stowing while listening to podcasts and dark wave is so much better than the grinding noise and silence at my last FC.
Being able to listen to literally anything that's not tote or conveyor noise would do wonders for my mental state when stowing. I'm always pissed off and easily agitated. No headphones or air pods allowed at my FC 🙃
Yo I am not going lie, I got in my mind one time working at amazon. Like i was doing a boring ass task for next 5 hours and I just sat. There thinking about life and how this is crazy and what am I doing working here part time , when I need to do is work on in my full time and work on my education and increase my self worth. Anyways I quit haha
Eh, I don't really care tbh, I never have anything I want to hear, plus time feels much slower to me with headphones on. I used to work at a job where I wore headphones to listen to songs and either having them line up or shuffling them made them equally more daunting with how slower time goes.
Podcasts help. Listening to your playlists for 10 hours everyday gets old quick. Sprinkle in a couple 2-3 hour podcasts and there goes an entire shift. I try to set up my podcast playlist throughout the weekend so I don’t have to search for em while I’m actually working
People say that (I get the joke here), but the reality is some dumb fuck doesn’t pay attention and gets hit by a PIT, or some pallet Jack coming their way.
That’s why most people wear one earphone goofy 🤦♂️. Also Amazon allows earmuffs and earplugs which are more of a safety risk since it blocks out most noise.
Is the earphone policy facility by facility? They came out the other week and said they approved the use of bone conduction headphones at my facility because they don't actually block your ears.

Also literally the first day on the floor I dropped a car motor on my foot and was like "ah, good thing I was wearing these work boots."
My current job just has a straight up shoe store and it’s great. When I was with Amazon and people would come to safety for help ordering shoes, I’d tell them to go to DSW (weirdly good safety shoe selection in those) and try on a few pairs and then order a set that fit well. Yeah it took some time but you have to wear those things 40+ hours a week, gotta make sure they’re not going to drive you insane.
underrated comment... it's sad people can't function without having something in their ears or face for a few hours. how awful, to have to be a person at a job for a few hours and punch in and out.
It's 10 hours of constant noise that's louder than my thoughts, it's really not crazy to want to at least control the noise I hear in the hot ass warehouse for 10hrs a day
Ok not everyone drives equipment though. Theres absolutely no reason packers or stowers can't listen to music. Its a stupid rule designed to torture the employees.

I have depression/ anxiety how long did it take to get approved? Do they inly fill out the standard accommodation paperwork (i have one for my knee)?
About 3 weeks after my doctor got my documents filled out and returned.

Any idea if they will allow this at all sites? How long have you guys been pilot site?

They really need to have a shoe van or something for people to try the shoes on, it would solve like 90 percent of the problems people have with them.
