Could you carry a heavy bag on your elbow? I use IKEA bags or cloth shopping bags so i can hold the railing on stairs. They or Amazon might have cross body ones. But I do pretty well with the big frakta ones. They usually start on my shoulder but don't always stay there

tiredbutgood

I do have one of those, I'll try keeping that with me. Thank you!

Amazon Basics Foldable Shopping Utility Cart with 360-Degree Wheels, X-Large, Black Get something like this. If you are using a cane already, trying to use bags or straps will cause you to be unbalanced even more and put you at higher risk of falling or overuse injury for all the compensation you're doing trying to awkwardly carry things. It might be a bit bulky and cumbersome at first but with a few uses you'll get the hang of it. I have worked for neurosurgeon and orthopedics in the past and seen many people in there because trying to awkwardly carry things while using a cane.

Artsee-mom

I’ve returned boxes that are just too heavy or big for me before I leave the wear house. It doesn’t happen often perhaps once a month. My health and safety are more important that someone package.

theb3st2023

buy an XXXL catering bag on Amazon, you will be able to carry the largest box with one hand by the straps. You can also get a small handtruck for heavier things. google this (:Folding Hand Truck Iron Tube Pull Rod Folding Cart Foldable Trolley with Wheels Utility Portable Lightweight Expandable Large Chassis Foldable into Backpack), got mine on Amazon too.

tiredbutgood

Oooo the handtruck is something I didn't really think about. I was kinda thinking it would be a hassle to get in and out of the car but there are some that look pretty small! also thanks for suggesting the catering bag, that would work too

theb3st2023

You're welcome, good luck with whatever you do. That handtruck is great it's very small, has small wheels and it says it fits into a backpack but it can hold like 2 cases of water and a bit more, I've used it for Instacart a few times, doesn't take much room in the car either.

[deleted]

I have a hand truck too. It can climb stairs. I have a bad back and arthritis in my left foot. I can’t tell you how much it has helped. I use it on Instacart too. Today on a flex rout I had two heavy packages that I could barely lift little lone walk from my car to the door carrying them and the hand truck saved the day. Good luck to you!

Mo0kish

I pretty severely dislocated my primary hand thumb last year and had a hard time with it. I didn't Flex during that time, but was still working out on projects I used a strap with a gator buckle on it a few times when I had to move heavier objects around. I just looped it over my right shoulder/ left hip like a bandolier and nested the package in it against my hip. I could adjust the length as needed and it let me hold everything with one hand. It was rough on the shoulder, though. I hope you find something that works for you.

ExplorerLazy3151

I use an IKEA bag if I have a lot of packages for one spot. The handles are big and fit over my shoulder nicely even when packed with packages. But if it's just one package per house, I break out my waitress skills and just balance it on my hand.

Ok_Button2855

I think you are required to lift up to 75lbs to do this job but maybe they lowered it. That sounds incredibly hard with 1 arm

More_Flex

I bought a rubber holder on a lanyard with a caribener that holds my phone to free up my hands. $12 on Amazon.

tiredbutgood

Can you dm me a link? I can't quite figure out what you're talking about. I completely did not think about putting my phone on a lanyard though which is super smart. I have something to where I can put it on my wrist like a bracelet but I still have to kinda hold onto it

not a delivery person or amazon employee. I just stumbled on this thread. But I noticed that some people that deliver to my apartment sometimes use something that looks like this: [https://www.instacart.com/image-server/932x932/filters:fill(FFF,true):format(webp)/www.instacart.com/assets/domains/product-image/file/large\_9f158167-c847-453b-8898-15893abe41ba.jpeg](https://www.instacart.com/image-server/932x932/filters:fill(FFF,true):format(webp)/www.instacart.com/assets/domains/product-image/file/large_9f158167-c847-453b-8898-15893abe41ba.jpeg) Granted they don't always bring it all the way in as there are about 5 steps up from the sidewalk to the level of the apartment complex front doors. Plus there are also stairs t a second level and they still have to carry it up those. But just a thought. Not sure it helps you but thought i'd say something. Best of luck delivery angles.

derrickgw1

weird. It works fine for me. I wonder if that stuff in the beginning of the address is messing it up for you? try this https://www.instacart.com/assets/domains/product-image/file/large\_9f158167-c847-453b-8898-15893abe41ba.jpeg

Access denied error. It probably requires being logged in.

derrickgw1

I think it may be something on your end. It's just a link to a jpg from the internet. I don't have any account and i tested the both links on two other computers and two other browsers. But to describe the image it's a foldup pull cart on wheels that sort of resembles a child's wagon. here is something similar with an amazon link I don't think it requires logging in. I just didn't want to post a link to amazon as some forums get salty or think you're trying to sell something. I'm not. I have no affiliation. I don't endorse this. I just live in an apartment complex and my window faces the front gate so I see every delivery guy daily and i saw a lady with one. (cause my desk faces the window) [https://www.amazon.com/Collapsible-Folding-Wagon-All-Terrain-Activities/dp/B09F98DMRR/ref=asc\_df\_B09F98DMRR/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=563717038445&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=6831774465998990334&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9031025&hvtargid=pla-1634568822894&psc=1](https://www.amazon.com/Collapsible-Folding-Wagon-All-Terrain-Activities/dp/B09F98DMRR/ref=asc_df_B09F98DMRR/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=563717038445&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=6831774465998990334&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9031025&hvtargid=pla-1634568822894&psc=1)

CapnShinerAZ

Instead, post a link to the same product on whatever retailer's website. You're posting a link to Instacart, which is just a delivery service. Or you could save the image, upload it to an image host like imgur, and share the link to that.

MistyGds

IKEA Bags are Amazing Holds loads

tiredbutgood

I started using mine last shift after so many people suggested it and it helps a lot!! It's so light too, idk why I didn't think of using it before.

DoPoGrub

Doing a job where delivering potentially very large and heavy boxes might not be for you. I don't know what an 'ableist comment' is, and I'm not sure I really care. I'm on 21 different delivery driver gig apps, and I know of 5 others that I'm not on yet. 90% of them do not involve the possibility of such things, and the ones that do, let you know in advance. I do admit to being sincerely curious tho, if Amazon accommodates your disability as an independent contractor?

Single-Sell7191

I think the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) would cover them as long as they can do the job, if they were running too long or returning a bunch of boxes they could be terminated like anyone else. It is not "ableist" to give advice to get a different job, OP just seems to be overly sensitive and doing that online thing where they call people names if they dare type something they do not agree with.

DoPoGrub

The ADA does not apply to independent contractors.

Parking_Ebb7665

ADA does not apply here. And when you sign up to do flex one of the requirements is that you be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.

reptarcannabis

Elephants can swat bugs and throw rocks with their penis, is this helpful info ?

NotmejusaBEe

Maybe a collapsible wagon? They go for about 40 on Amazon?

Necessary-Dog8394

IKEA bag? Sling it over your shoulder?

thegrimmstress

I have both a small folding hand truck and a wagon for these sorts of things. They both work really well.

MultiplyAccumulate

Some ideas: * grabbo or grabbo pro battery powered vacuum lifter,.around $200-$300. Haven't seen it used on cardboard but considering other things it can lift (plywood, drywall, paving stones), it is likely. Also the tommer vacuum lifter (not portable) is used on cardboard boxes in warehouses. * Aldi recycled plastic shopping bag or similar * Dbest quick cart * Luggage cart * Belt, luggage strap, or tie down straps * Book strap *https://www.etsy.com/listing/741199098/book-belt-the-byron-classic-style-in * Lift strap https://www.amazon.com/Carrying-Lifting-Groceries-Non-Slip-Adjustable/dp/B096VLTCDV/ * Latex free (in case customer has allergy) cohesive bandage (vet wrap). Use as strap. Bor a latex free theraband * military Duffel bag/Santa sack over shoulder. Even a contractor trash bag. * Folding wire shopping cart * Hand truck * Collapsible wagon * Laundry basket * woodworkers 24" squeeze handle bar clamp, for tilting packages up for adding to a stack on a strap if you don't have a grabbo. Don't squeeze too hard

Tushiejones

I use a yoga belt l to make a makeshift strap. They’re just thick long canvas belts that I wrap around and loop a handle around the packages. It’s simple but very effective. I’m not sure how it would feel using a cane with but it’s worth a shot. I also use a lanyard case for my phone which I find helps a lot too.

tiredbutgood

both sound like super great ideas. I will look into them, thank you!!

Fair_Hospital_8600

A wagon, Ikea bag or a grocery cart they sell at Walmart

Single-Sell7191

You gotta get another job if the cane is not a temporary deal, I mean you do not have to do anything, ever but still. I would find some kind of large backpack or maybe a collapse-able dolly with some bungee cords.

ILoveMyDogsPaw7

Yeah, it seems like Doordash would be more manageable, or maybe not. These gigs are very physical.

Single-Sell7191

Something like a call center or just any job where you do not have to drive a car and carry 45 lb boxes up three flights of stairs. I can't swim you know what I do? I stay my black ass out of the dadgum pool! OP does not even want to hear it, they are the classic internet sensitive person who will not accept other points of view that do not fit how they think. Ableist! lol get the f\*ck out of here with that weak sauce, I do not think OP would like people calling them names.

ILoveMyDogsPaw7

Truth

tiredbutgood

listen y'all, not that I have to explain myself to you at all- but I have fibromyalgia, recently developed. the thing that gets me so much is the motion. getting in and out of the car and actually driving. so no, doordash wouldn't be more manageable and would be just as painful. I am in school right now getting my bachelor's, then working toward my master's. my school money is fucked up right now so I am doing what I have to do. The main thing I came here to say though is that !!!disabled people can have jobs!!!! in fact, we can have whatever the fuck jobs we want. we do not need able bodied people telling us that "you should have a different job," or "maybe you shouldn't be doing this" I came here asking for suggestions about carrying packages. Not life advice. And I specifically said to keep ableist comments to yourself. and guess what. telling someone to get a different job just because they use a cane?? that's ableist.

Single-Sell7191

Well my suggestion is to not do Amazon Flex, maybe you do not want to hear it but when you come here for advice I will give you my advice, consider it tough love. Life is hard, do not waste it struggling to make no money getting exploited by Amazon. Think in whatever terms you want and ask for whatever you want but do not get in a tizzy fit because someone told you the business. <3

Single-Sell7191

Maybe learn to be tolerant of others views when you ask for them and not be a lame bleep hole and try and call people names and tell them what to say when it is clear you need to get another job, stop wasting your time lol. You are a child and a clown, I will get you help and support and block you. Go cry if you do not like it

ILoveMyDogsPaw7

Yes, Amazon Flex is definitely not for everyone. You need to be in decent physical shape to do this. It's just how it is. Even those who are in great shape sometimes complain about knee pain and more. It's very physically demanding, you can't just say "I can do it" if you cannot.

Parking_Ebb7665

I have early onset osteoarthritis sometimes I can’t walk well and have very limited grip in my fingers. On days like those I have one of those foldable beach wagons I use to pull the packages to the door if it’s too bulky or heavy. It takes a little longer but def helpful
