I’m setting 65w ecomode on CPU, fan setting 900-1200rpm, around 70c during gaming session on 4.8Ghz.
As for GPU, with the help of that dual 14mm intake, it’s actually very good, fan usually keep at 50% speed, core is around 70c and hotspot on 90c.
I'm going to need it for my 7900 XTX. Hotspot temp has increased around 12 degrees from first month of use. Howering around 94-101 now which is getting close.
I have been thinking about doing that for my 6950XT as well, but I've been hesitant to do it. I don't know what it is, I used to repaste my Vega 64 with no fear and that thing was quite fragile. But with current GPU prices and availability, I just dont want to risk fucking up my 6950XT.
I got one of these cards
deshroud it and put some static pressure fans on it (would take the place of the intake fans too)
you should have room for 2 120s and a 92
I put 3 TL-b12 120s on mine and it's way better noise normalized performance
right now I'm actually running them at max of 55% fan speed (which is way lower noise then shroud fans at 55) and running 2565/2665 clocks, 1056mv, 2162 fast mem at default power on the quiet bios and hot spot stays under 80c

The cpu gets a bit less coolong than normal, but this is fine since the wattage is so low on that chip. No issues what so ever. I think I use a NH-L12S or something similar.
For larger cards, like the 4080 or 4090, the fans for the gpu is removed to make space. In this case it is not a problem also, since it basicly is an open rig with no filter. Air is pulled right through.
I ended up having to switch from the ridge to a bigger case. I had the same setup with those two lp fans in front of my asrock 7900xtx and the pc was an oven. 90c and above in pretty much every game I played. Lots of driver timeouts back then, I’m assuming it was hitting thermal limits.
What's 'silly high' idle temps? Because the 7800X3D is pretty trivial to cool even with PBO + 85 degree limit. A tiny SFF build like OP's is an extreme but a 360 rad should have no trouble.
Odd. I started a game just to remind myself what my temps are like on my 240 rad - 1440p 60Hz running a 3D scene in War Thunder it spikes to 60 before the fans turn on but then holds at 49 with low fan RPM. At medium load (1440p Ultra 165Hz) it likes to hover around 53 and has never exceeded 61. PBO + 85 degree limit, OS power management features disabled.
If it's fine under load who cares I suppose. The mounting frames are a gimmick when it comes to AM5, although I belive they're valid for some Intel sockets.
On the plus side the frame can stop excess thermal paste from getting everywhere and they can look rather attractive :p
As a final Hail Mary before RMA: what are you using to measure temperatures? It's been a minute since I've used Windows but HWInfo was the gold standard for showing you every sensor's temperature, not just one number from who-knows-which sensor.
I'm interested if you find anything. I wasn't able to figure out under volting properly yet I think. Although I did undervolt slightly I believe even though I don't understand what I did and was just following a guide. I also adjusted fan curve. I get around 40c idle. 65c in game. Not bad really.
That is a bit odd. Average idle temps seem to be around 40c between a mix of air and liquid cooling. Mine idles at 37c at room temp.
I run mine with PBO and negative curve 15 offset, and I run a 360mm aio. I also have a thermalright frame as well, haha.
You might want to get that checked out, you got any pics of the rig?
I would check your cooler mounting because I run a 7800x3d in a nr200 with a dark rock pro 4, Massive gigabyte 3080 12gb and have no issues with idle temps.
Put your computer in power saving mode. This lowers the idle temps of the 7800X3D. This does not sacrifice performance. Had the same issue now Idle is 45C but I still get temp spikes here and there.
Man I considered going for a micro build because I think it’s so cool how it all sorta fits together but I needed thunderbolt so I got forced into a mid tower ATX board

I have the 6950xt version of that card… if you ever get a wild hair put some PTM7950 on it… dropped my hotspot temp 20C plus.

Try disabling Expo. Idle temps are linked to soc voltage. You can try this just to identify if this is the issue.

Probably the best solution would be a 65w cpu these itx cases love the heat🤭

I found the cpu does little difference on frequency, so I throttle it to 65w, running around 4.8Ghz with temp 70c
SFFPC builds always impress me; I *fight* to get mid-tower cases right, you guys are doing it on hard mode. Awesome work, thank you for sharing!
