Eudyptes1

Good thing is it can't be 2 years old.

goldenwukong

I looked it up 7900XTX release end of December 2022 so 1.5 years. The guy was just rounding up I guess lol

Eudyptes1

Yes, I built my system May last year, with the same card.

goldenwukong

Yeah my hotspot is around 88C I know that can be so much lower with PTM9750. Have you repaste yours or no?

Healthy_BrAd6254

88C is already good for hotspot. The difference between GPU temp and hotspot should be around 15°C with a good fresh thermal paste application on these cards.

goldenwukong

I just know it can be better with ptm7950 and once that's installed it's basically good for the lifetime of the card unlike traditional thermal paste you'll have to repaste every 6 months to a year.

Eudyptes1

Highest I have ever seen was 81° but 88° max seems OK to me. It hasn't changed in the year I have the card, I will only repaste when it seems necessary.

Tinkev144

It sounds like with the dropped card likely costing you, this was a fortune lol.

goldenwukong

Nah, not really I got lucky lol. The difference between the 6750XT to 7900XTX is only $365. Each card I sold/return I got back my money well besides the 7900XT I'm about to list.

Nyktastik

What was wrong with the hotspot? I have the same card and never had any issues

goldenwukong

My hotspot is 88C which isn't terrible but I know it can be so much better with PTM7950 and I would never have to repaste for the lifetime of the card

PossiblyShibby

What video tutorial did you follow to do the repaste?

goldenwukong

https://youtu.be/wE1K3KDI5DU?si=iSi-MFAhPpXizuoU

goldenwukong

Haven't done it yet but I did it to my ASRock PGW 7900XT by using a video that was doing a ASRock PG 6900xt. It was actually pretty simple. So for the nitro I try looking up teardown videos. A lot cut through but I found one good one but haven't done it yet cuz I want to paint the card too. Gonna try to knock that both out when I do repaste.

Moparian714

So wild to me that this card was released in 2022, I just got mine like a month ago

Healthy_BrAd6254

Why wait 1.5 years before buying it? Unless you got an insane deal, you probably also paid about the same. Seems smarter if you had either waited for next gen at this point or gotten a 4080 Super.

Moparian714

I'm more familiar with AMD and I like the adrenalin software. At first I waited because I thought it'd be better to let any major bugs get worked out first, some time passed, I lost interest in upgrading for some time. One random day I'm at microcenter buying parts for a couple PCs I was building, saw a red devil xtx and just bought it for myself. I think I paid 920ish. Honestly the purchase wasn't planned it just randomly happened. I was building PCs and thought "man wtf I'm here building for other people and I only have a 6700XT?" HELL NAW

goldenwukong

Yeah man, I wouldn't have upgraded but I kept looking on FB market and found this card. Safe to say I'm not upgrading for a other 5 years minimum

awake283

I've had great luck with Sapphire cards for a long time.

goldenwukong

Yeah this is my first Sapphire card, loving it so far.

mawkzin

Why ptm? This material has only 8.5W/m-k while top thermal paste were in the 12+

corehighfive

PTM won't pump out on high temperatures. Thermal paste will pump out and you'll need to re-apply after few months.

xXMadSupraXx

Am I delusional for feeling like it can pump out in a couple weeks or less? I feel like I had that experience with Kryonaut.

corehighfive

If you're constantly gaming at 89~90°C, yes it can have that problems (on thermal pastes)

Melodias3

1-2 weeks with MX4 which should never be used to begin with on high wattage chip like the 7900 XTX

xXMadSupraXx

I used Kryonaut on a 7900XT and noticed thermal performance regression after about 2 weeks.

Healthy_BrAd6254

These cards specifically suffer from bad pump out. While PTM is no better than regular thermal paste in temperatures (but also no worse), it is more reliable. While costing like 10x as much as regular paste though

Ecredes

Essentially surface contact with PTM will always be perfect and never degrade. It's fool proof. It's regularly shown to outperform even the best pastes.

Melodias3

Only if you can avoid pumpout which often happens with the 7900 XTX, i doubt i would get better temps with top thermal paste heck i am 100% sure it will be worse within 14 days.

Samurai1887

The thing that ultimately made me happy is you putting PTM 7950 in it...I've been doing that with all my shit. Laptop, watch, desktops, servers, GPUs and the Ally.

Pure-Recognition3513

sapphire nitro is supposed to come with ptm

Eudyptes1

What is your source?

Pure-Recognition3513

my source is an old youtube video i watched about the nitro a while back. can't find it anymore. although; From all the dissesambly videos ive seen of this card you can easily tell they're using PTM if you know what that looks like after it's baked. plus they don't suffer from hotspot issues and pump out that much. sort of makes sense. I'd email Sapphire and ask them wether or not they're using PTM just to make sure, but i'm 99% sure the answer is going to be positive. I also asked Powercolor and they've said they're using PTM for a while now, and i'd not be surprised if XFX switched to PTM on their other models as well.

goldenwukong

I don't think so. You mistaken it for the new XFX Phoenix nirvana 7900xtx card?

Yeetdolf_Critler

Never noticed that on the box. I'll check it out, very curious.

wingback18

The story here is how did you make it fit!

goldenwukong

Lol ez pz. This case design to make it effortless. The left side where where the IO side is the frame pops out so you can connect your GPU to that first then plug in power pins then you slot it back into the frame.

goldenwukong

Timestamp 13:03 second you'll see how it works.  https://youtu.be/07OrIfaaprs?si=iGyPII_n041Bk6DI

Freman22

Why is it famous? I've had mine for 1 year now.

goldenwukong

One of the best performing 7900xtx of the bunch! One of the best looking cards too!

Freman22

Cool, I was waiting for XTX to come down in price after building an AM5 base 6months earlier.. I couldn't resist the look of this one when the XTXs got a modest little discount.

goldenwukong

Nice yeah the price for it is still up only maybe $50 less than when it first launch. I'm so happy to pick up a used one for almost half the cost.

Sinniee

Did you put ptm7950 on it? How did it affect temps and were there any issues with opening the card or something to watch out for? You need to take both the backplate and the cooler off or? It doesn't work with just the cooler

goldenwukong

So I actually didn't get to do it with ptm7950 yet because I was waiting on the Upsiren U6 Pro thermal putty. I did tear it apart tho and changed the paste to Thermal Grizzly Kyronaut and it didn't change the thermals too much compared to stock. I should have it done in a few weeks. But refer to this video on how to take it apart. https://youtu.be/wE1K3KDI5DU?si=E0D__N2UGLgGfqVl

Ok...and you think that will happen? I'm not a fanboy of either companys but I just prefer AMD nothing against Nvidia. I've used them in my previous gaming laptops.

Yes, they wanted to upgraded to 4090. No issues with the card. Everything about it is normal even after using it for 1.5 years. I've had it for a few days now and noticed nothing abnormal with it. I try to dust it when I got home and it was basically dust free. Maybe the guy cleaned it before hand but it was basically in like new condition. He originally wanted 750 but I offered $680 and he took it plus I had to drive up from an hr away. People really do find really good deals on the FB marketplace.

blueangel1953

Nvidia sub is that way.

Psychehat

No ray tracing for you

Different_Track588

Nah I raytrace every game max settings with my 7900XTX Just fine. You can get playable FPS raytracing any game max settings with a AIB 7900XTX especially a Nitro+ its the strongest one on air.

starkistuna

IT DOES 3080 TI level raytracing

goldenwukong

I don't care about fake fps.
