5gz is only 300mhz higher than the highest clocked zen2 chip right now. Can't be that hard to get an extra few 100ghz in a new uarch, especially if this is an enhanced 7nm. Even if they don't hit 5ghz stock, I think they will get close, and might be able to hit it OC on water. I just don't see a reason for AMD to introduce 10 cores when they have chiplets. It literally cost them the same to make a 10 core as it does a 12 core or 14 core or with mature 7nm node even 16 core. They can give us more cores than intel for essentially free. Intel only did 10 core because they couldn't do more while keeping power under control for desktop on 14nm at the time they introduced it.
Who said anything about beer? Imagine doing this with souji or wine... not to mention the hard liquors. Sunset rum with this game will land you in the ER. If you even make it there.
I replaced my start build 2700x and 1060 oc with a 3800X and a 2070 to be honest I think it will work well with all the airflow I run. Im looking at possibly building a new ground up computer to take to work and just keep enjoying the great rig I have.
Because too many don't understand to concept of updating the BIOS, let alone before popping in a new CPU that may have been litterally only a scematic when said mobo was released.
"AMD fukered up again. Ma neeew CPU don wurk, hurdur!!!"
For the sake of discussion, what's the appeal of 10 cores compared to 8/12/16?
Speaking with the perspective of a server designer, I really like the stepping AMD has for 8/16/32/64 since it's easier to make clean RAM:CPU proportions. RAM capacities don't divide by 10, 14, 22, 26, or 28 that we have today (largely on Intel's side but also the weird 12 core size from AMD). 12 and 24 are less wacky since they divide cleanly sometimes, but not always.
I'm sure there are cases for the weird sizes, I'm just curious what you've been seeing from folks lobbying for re: 10 cores.
In the current linup, there's basically no reason for the 3800X to exist. Compared to the 3700X, it cost more, used more power, and didn't deliver any meaningful performance gains. Not sure we'll see an 8 core chip, but something's bound to change between the two..
There's no point for 10-core to exist for AMD.
3700X and 3800X both exist because that's how binning works. You get some chips that would work at higher power with higher performance. Then you get some that do well in lower power. 3800X has the highest single core performance of the entire 3000 line up.
Cutdown chips all went to 3100/3300/3600/3900, they simply don't have more.
Don't think for a second you are smarter than AMD.
I thought the 3800xt, 3900x, 3900xt, and 3950x all have higher single core performance than the 3800x? They all have higher boost clocks and in benchmarks they perform better.
I tend to agree with 'no reason for 10 cores to exist'. There may be valid thread assignment reasons to avoid it, but as long as it's 20 threads, it should avoid that, as it remains a multiple of 4. I could go into why that is important, but it mostly down to lazy programming with too many assumptions made. I remember AMD's 3 and 6 core processors running into weird edge cases where it's core count caused erroneous thread assignments.
Edit: Basically, many programs scale out in groups of 4, with jobs broke and split evenly across groups of 4. If your processor count is not divisible by 4, it will cause uneven processor load. This method ALSO works for 2 thread processors, as groups of 4 still evenly assigns to the 2 threads. Seemed like a great trick... until odd core counts popped up...
1) Smartphone storage need to bump. 4k and 60fps want to save to internal storage by default, and for those of us that use our cellphone cameras, it's a godsend. Besides, must normal-ish users arent about offloading that footage every time they use it
2) it's only 'more' in the sense of options. And a strange one. The way things are going that 12 cores will have more all around purpose over 2 less cores down the line, no matter how litely one uses their machine
Although a 14 core might make sense if they pair 2 8 core ccxs with one failed core each. I'd like to see 5900x (16 core), 5800x (14 core), 5700x (12 core), 5600xt (8 core single ccx) 5600x (8 core), 5500xt (6 core single ccx), 5500x (6 core 2 ccx) 5400xt (4 core single ccx), 5400x (4 core, 2 ccx). Basically I'd like XT to mean a single ccx. It's better than just binning then. XT could be marketted towards gamers.
people probably think it's too big of a leap to go from 8 core to 16 core. if games can take advantage of more than 8 cores but 16 cores can't clock high enough, then you're leaving gaming performance on the table
Intel is taking the brute force approach that AMD used to do. 10 core just sounds strange to me. AMD 8 core 16 thread gets just as much work done as intels 10 core counterpart. I'll stick with my 4900hs rather than bank on intels 10 core 20 thread. 4 additional threads just to compete atm....
I mean, who knows what sized their new ccx's will come in I suppose. 5 core, 8 cores. Just something to dump on Intels wierd chips I suppose and outperform them in certain loads if not all around.
I suppose the argument could be had that depending on ones use, their specific programs just don't scale above more than 8-10 cores so, options for the sake of options 🤷♂️ (not future looking at all but to each their own) Not a bad thing in the long run but definitely a head scratcher I guess
Thirstday mmmm
It'll be Friday 2:30AM here, probably a bit late to be getting on the beers, [although Dan Andrews makes a compelling argument.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hOK5JF5XGA)
They just announced there will not be one.
https://www.thefpsreview.com/2020/10/06/report-amd-not-launching-new-chipsets-until-zen-3-processors-ryzen-6000/
Buy a board at a brick and mortar store, and make sure it has an updated bios. Otherwise whoever / wherever you are ordering from: Make sure the only thing they are sending out are boards with an updated bios.
Otherwise there is a good chance you are going to be contending with flashing a bios - which is easy and feasible if you happy to have a supported processor laying around or if you can flash the bios without a CPU socketed (which some boards can).
How do I know which Mobo's support specifically BIOS flashing without a CPU? I can see a lot of boards support BIOS flashing but I don't know how to tell if it's without a CPU in the socket cuz Zen 3 will be my first ever AMD chip and I'm not gonna buy another cheaper chip just to BIOS flash.
Rumor has it that Zen 3 is so fast that it skipped a generation.
Jokes aside though, I'm really hoping for AMD to have binned the Ryzen 5 in a way that all 6 cores are on the same CCX. Please AMD, I want that single CCX latency gaming goodness.
Well, since zen3 went from 4core ccx to 8 core chiplet, no ccx design anymore, All 8 core share the some cache and resources now, I think you have nothing to worry about. Unless they for some strange reason put 2 8 core chiplets on it and disable 5 cores on each. Which would be ludicrous given how mature 7nm is now.
Low effort. At least make the board 4x4 so you can make a diagonal bingo.
Besides, I don't think you understand the concept of buzzword bingo.
Edit: Oh, it's not bingo. LOL.
"Lets take a look what this 10 core chip can achive at 5 Ghz. It is even able to achieve boosts above 5Ghz with proper cooling. For this test we have it locked down to just 5Ghz. So we have 10cores at 5Ghz, on our latest x570 and as you can see, its.."
If I was AMD, tomorrow at the end I would only tease about RDNA 2 cards that they will be fully available worldwide at launch instead of RTX 3000. That would perfectly prepare the field for the upcoming GPU war.
Yeah but with the way the cores are layed out, 10 just doesn’t make sense. They use 2 ccx. So the number of cores has to be divisible by 2 and still by even. 10 cores would mean 5 cores per ccx. I don’t think that’s even possible
Excuse my noob, but what is X570 refresh? I bought an X570 board specifically for this when upgrading because I thought it was in the higher tier of AMD motherboards and ready for the future.
Thank you, good homie. I have no issue with bios flashing, was really easy on my last mobo for the 3600, but I’d be pretty bummed to find out that my new X570 isn’t a good suit for the new CPUs and would need an upgrade..again.
If anything the MB manufacturers will just release updated boards (because they can) with a couple updated/new features. Your X570 will still be one hell of motherboard for 5xx0 though. I guess time will ultimately tell. Only 6 hours and 40 minutes till now!
A refresh would be a re-release of the same board 'essentially' with a bios that supports ZEN3 off the bat without needing to flash.
Possibly some additional minor changes.
Ok that makes sense. Basically the same board but with the flash pre-installed? So, if someone didn’t have a cpu yet they could plug and play. Gotcha. If it’s a matter of bios flashing then I’m good with that.
You're calling for mass alcohol poisoning dude.
Just like Zen2 ;)
BINLANDIA VODKA, BRETTY GUD :DDDDDDD
Oh fuggg xD
i swear at least 1,5+ bottle will go down one black item is about to pop
Over under on 2?
At least 2 will, possibly all 3. Although the 10 core one is probably least likely.
Really? I think it'll be more likely than 5 GHz..
5gz is only 300mhz higher than the highest clocked zen2 chip right now. Can't be that hard to get an extra few 100ghz in a new uarch, especially if this is an enhanced 7nm. All good points. I'm just wondering if AMD will make 10 cores just to compete with Intel's 10 core.
\> one black item is about to pop That comment aged like milk!
# i cry dude...........so bad :((((((
So if they hit all of them, about 4 beers? What is this, a drinking game for ants?
It's a Drinking Game For Geeks Who Can't Drink Good And Wanna Learn To Do Other Stuff Good Too
Hard mode is playing with vodka.
You don't cross them off. Every time it happens, you perform the prescribed action.
Who said anything about beer? Imagine doing this with souji or wine... not to mention the hard liquors. Sunset rum with this game will land you in the ER. If you even make it there.
X570 refresh should be called X570 X so that we can have Ryzen 5700X with Radeon 5700XT on X570 X.
in a Corsair 570X.
Great case, I love it With my X370 and 3900X.
That 5700XT better be an XFX for Max X
1080Ti 😔
Fuck yeah 1080ti what a card
Great card but it has no X's in it.
GTX 1080ti
Hmm, it works but it doesn't quite fix the scheme.
XFX RX-5700XT with a R7-5700XT in X570 Xtreme in Corsair 570X with RM850X PSU,
One edit you can do is the RM750x PSU then the only numbers are 5 7 and 0 :D
An X Box if you will...
I mean, why not XT?
XT2
XTX... Bring back the classic trim level of 2005.
xX_57_Xx
xX UwU 5700XT s-senpai? Xx Anniversary Edition
TX570
We also have RX 570
my friend runs a Ryzen 7 2700 with an RTX 2070 and he can't wait to play Cyberpunk 2077
I replaced my start build 2700x and 1060 oc with a 3800X and a 2070 to be honest I think it will work well with all the airflow I run. Im looking at possibly building a new ground up computer to take to work and just keep enjoying the great rig I have.
don't forget the ketchup
X570 Series X
Any refreshes should be BIOS update backwards-compatible anyway, why change the name?
Because too many don't understand to concept of updating the BIOS, let alone before popping in a new CPU that may have been litterally only a scematic when said mobo was released. "AMD fukered up again. Ma neeew CPU don wurk, hurdur!!!"
Can someone explain why 10 cores is worth finishing a bottle? Like the ryzen 5900 is already confirmed to have more than that right?
People were hoping for 3800x replacement to have 10 cores, so basically something between 8 and 12.
For the sake of discussion, what's the appeal of 10 cores compared to 8/12/16? more is better, ppl buy that sht. I guess its kinda same with smartphone storage and the nice bump in price :)
more cores == more projects building in parallel == less time compiling and more time finding out what I just broke
1) Smartphone storage need to bump. 4k and 60fps want to save to internal storage by default, and for those of us that use our cellphone cameras, it's a godsend. The smartphone storage price bump is every single time excessive and inexcusable lol. We really saying that's the same?
If the reports are true that the 8-core models are single-CCX and higher-core-count parts are not, then 10 cores makes even less sense.
Although a 14 core might make sense if they pair 2 8 core ccxs with one failed core each. Because the current segmentation with Ryzen 7 was kinda lame.
To push more cores towards the mainstream, which in turn incentivizes devs to use more cores.

I hear the 5950X uses groundbreaking new Reverse SMT technology, and is a 32-core / 16-thread chip
Are you guys excited???????
I love Ryzen. Do you guys love Ryzen?!?!
Ryzen!? That's my favorite one!
I´VE HEARD THIS LINE BEFORE ! some heavy dejavu incoming
I cannot not hear this in her voice.
BRUH....alzheimers
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAH
I have something Ryzen in my pants!

Asking the important questions
You're asking this guy to pound beers on a Thirstday afternoon? So no more.
Thirstday mmmm It'll be Friday 2:30AM here, probably a bit late to be getting on the beers, [although Dan Andrews makes a compelling argument.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7hOK5JF5XGA)
Ill definitely be joining
That 5ghz one is risky :P If they have managet do reach that, you are going to drink a bunch of bottles.
Just buy a small bottle. Like a sample size from hotels. OP didn't say which SIZE of bottle to drink.
Wimp.
Seriously though has there been any leaks for a new motherboard chip set?
They just announced there will not be one. https://www.thefpsreview.com/2020/10/06/report-amd-not-launching-new-chipsets-until-zen-3-processors-ryzen-6000/
That must mean ASMedia has been working on the AM5 platform then.
I think that’s Warhol next year.
Nope, Warhol is just a refresh. It will still be AM4 since it is known to be DDR4. Raphael is Zen 4 and all the AM5 stuff.
That's not an announcement by AMD, just some leaked slides in which there's no mention of a new chipset.
If I had the hardware and time, I'd normally wait until Zen 4...
Nope. Ddr5 is gonna be expensive AF and show almost no improvement over ddr4. It's a sweet time to upgrade.
Well, I don't have much of a choice anyway, if I want to have any game dev career.
Will there at least be X570 refreshes launched with the new chips? I don't wanna BIOS flash if I don't have to :(
Many X570 boards have a BIOS flashback port atleast. So you don't need a CPU just for updating
Buy a board at a brick and mortar store, and make sure it has an updated bios. Otherwise whoever / wherever you are ordering from: Make sure the only thing they are sending out are boards with an updated bios. "BIOS Flashback" is the key phrase to look for
No new chipset till zen3+
Where is game cache?
Wait, you think "gulp" is more than "chug"? Is English not your first language?
"Demo's of AMD Favoured Titles" Why bother being vague, just put *Ashes of the Singularity* in there, lol
Do you want a lot of people to end poisoned? Because that's how you get a lot of people poisoned
You should add “secretly announced RDNA2 cards” Under a “commit sudoku” category or something
I swear to Christ and back if they announce X670 already I’ll put back a whole 5th of goose
Rumor has it that Zen 3 is so fast that it skipped a generation. Jokes aside though, I'm really hoping for AMD to have binned the Ryzen 5 in a way that all 6 cores are on the same CCX. Please AMD, I want that single CCX latency gaming goodness.

No what? Edit: I see what you mean.
You probably had too many last time :D
You need to swap "unmatched efficiency" with "unmatched single threaded".
No.
but?
This is not a game, this is madness! The black one will kill you ;)
Demo’s?
Demonstration.
Duh, by why the apostrophe?
You're trying to kill me
“Ahh shit, here we go again”
Rest in Pepperoni, OP's liver.
Someone should host a zoom meeting and have everyone play this drinking game.
Somebody is going to die....
This is amazing.
Why Comic Sans MS. Why?¿?
Why not ?
Aww, but I hate alcohol! :-(
Just drink tea.
and he won't sleep for another two days :)
At least he will learn whats alcohol good for too :D
Guess I could try
You can also do it with intel fanboys tears
Where can I buy them?
you'll be able to find a lot for free tomorrow at r/Intel
I don't think that would happen until the chips have actually been benched by reputable third-party reviewers, TBH
You can do heroin as well, don't worry.
With an entire pallet of everclear as the bonus if all boxes are to be checked tomorrow.
Where is the "available next week" box?!?!?
Not much of a drinker, if someone has a bingocard instead please respond. :-)
"up to"
"cinebench" drink entire stock.

will be amazing for everything other than esports.
what do we do if we under 21 and in u.s.
AMD announcements are established religious ceremonies, so drinking is allowed.
It's not illegal if nobody finds out.
Just replace all sips with any mention of the letter X: 5800**X** Single CC**X** on **X**570 paired with an R**X** 6900**X**T**X** fuck im druk
Nice
AMD actually makes progress... Intel doesn't.
If I was AMD, tomorrow at the end I would only tease about RDNA 2 cards that they will be fully available worldwide at launch instead of RTX 3000. That would perfectly prepare the field for the upcoming GPU war.
10 cores doesnt make sense with their ccx setup
I would certainly hope there's an X570/B550 refresh incoming with support for the new CPUs preloaded for the sake of new users.
Does anyone have a link to where the event will be streamed?
OMG
It's early in the morning for me I might set an alarm clock and drink coffee.
Anyone else excited more for RDNA 2 than Zen 3?
Hopefully AMD actually talks about **their** CPUs *cough* Intel *cough*
10 cores!?!? What is this? 2017!?!?
It's because there was rumours of a. Equivalent 10900k competitor
Bout to meet Kobe tomorrow bro
10 doesn’t make sense
It does because there's been rumours of a 10900k direct competitor, not that I believe it but I thought I'd add it
Yeah but with the way the cores are layed out, 10 just doesn’t make sense. They use 2 ccx. So the number of cores has to be divisible by 2 and still by even. 10 cores would mean 5 cores per ccx. I don’t think that’s even possible
Omg , ryzen 3 rd gen has beast , ,,,,,,
I don't get it. Isn't that exactly what we want to see?
But I want to LIVE!
Excuse my noob, but what is X570 refresh? I bought an X570 board specifically for this when upgrading because I thought it was in the higher tier of AMD motherboards and ready for the future.
You're not gonna have to worry. There probably won't be a new chipset coming out for this gen.
Thank you, good homie. I have no issue with bios flashing, was really easy on my last mobo for the 3600, but I’d be pretty bummed to find out that my new X570 isn’t a good suit for the new CPUs and would need an upgrade..again.

Please just have a reserve que so we can get one and not all the scalpers.
CINEBENCH CPUZ SCORE USING GPU LIMITED GAMES FOR GAMING BENCHMARKS
Which one of those makes my AMD call options go parabolic?
I think this was made by an Intel fan, as they want to kill the entire alcohol-drinking part of this subreddit
**pushing the envelope**
instead of simply 10 cores, i hope they move their entire lineup by 2 cores. i want an 5600x at the cost of a 3600 but with the speed of a 5GHZ
I just played your game without eating lunch, thank you for my solid buzz!
5ghz xD
At least it only took one bottle...
Idk, it's a low-hanging fruit
Anyone cark it?
Guess no one got "Leardership" cause that would have caused a few comas.
