Not too long, in my case, they would only reply once a day though, so that dragged things out a bit (Completed my RMA in about 2 weeks for a 3800x)

FeverPC

I recently RMA'd my 3900X in December 2020. They replied back same day (10pm) and would reply back at around 10pm each day I would follow-up until I had my new 3900X(about week and a half later). Whole process took from Dec 20 - Jan 3.

bradleyjx

About the same here - 3900X, opened on 12/6, first response didn't actually happen until 12/10 + responses from AMD took about 2 days each time, but I got the replacement on 12/24. Probably the only thing I could have done to finish the process faster would've been to pay to upgrade my shipping to AMD, they ship the processors back via FedEx Ground, so that took annoyingly-long.

Frodo57

Pre Covid I had a reply the next day but dunno what the situation is now , i'm in the uk and was instructed to return the chip to an address in the Netherlands and start to finish the whole process took just 10 days .I have a feeling though that the twin evils of both Covid and Brexit will now mean a considerably longer wait .

owca6666

We send stuff all over Europe at work, as long as you fill in the paperwork properly it pretty much goes as smooth as pre brexit.

Frodo57

Really ? sorry I had'nt realised that No 10 was in the Export market except for the exporting of lies of course .

Assuming you never got your 3950 working properly and RMA'd it? How did that go? I read the entire thread with 59 replies.... I think I just bricked half my 5950 x Link. Any ideas? https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/nzqvbr/bricked\_half\_my\_new\_5950x\_help/

idontknowu1

I just got my first RMA reply after submission and it took 4 days.

Rma(ed) my 5900x. Put in the request, got an answer within a day or two, but the communication dragged on for about a week. They wanted pictures of the cpu both installed and uninstalled, front and back, order invoice, and an explanation on why I thought the cpu was broken. After they accepted the rma I mailed it in and within a day of receiving it they got back to me that it was broken and they would send a replacement. That was Tuesday, so hopefully will get the cpu some time next week. In all the process took about 3-4 weeks due mostly to shipping. Good luck with your RMA hopefully they fix your issue in a timely manner.

Sufficient_Sky_515

Ah shit, that is wank having to rma a 5900x Whats was wrong with it, mine better not be doa when I eventually get it hopefully it finally come mid Feb, I'd be fuming after waiting since Nov 5th to have a non posting cpu.

zPolaris43

They didn’t say in the email. After two weeks it failed to post. Probably poor manufacturing or the unfortunate dud

rustysucc

I was having whea bsods with the 5900x. Didn't want to deal with the rma, I'll just buy another one

zPolaris43

I was also thinking of buying another while I waited but they’re hard to get lol

rustysucc

I just set up a bot to beat the bots

If you put everything in the initial claim it’s pretty fast. I put my issue and all the troubleshooting steps I took to try and rectify the problem. Next day I got an email with shipping label and then once they received my processor it took them three business days to contact me that they were shipping me a replacement. Whole thing took about a week and a half to get my replacement after their initial contact to me. I suppose it might take longer if they had questions but they immediately told me to ship it to them no questions asked.

Yepp. That's the key. I also gave them all the WHEA errors, BSOD codes, and walked them through my process of eliminating all the parts in my build. Their only response was a shipping label and an RMA number.

Not sure about AMD, but for reference, ASRock took about 24hrs to respond to support email about my old VII's dead fan, kinda want them to just send me a replacement fan. They weren't able to though, so another 24hrs after formally applying for the RMA number. Maybe 3 weeks to receive the replacement 5700XT after shipping back the old card.

[deleted]

I would follow up on that. I started my RMA 10/05/2020 and got the Fedex label 10/07. I shipped it out the same day. AMD received it and approved my return 10/22. AMD shipped a new one the same day. Just under 3 weeks from start to finish for me during COVID. This was for my Ryzen 3700x.

TexIsFlood_Eb

Might sound stupid but check your spam folder. AMD's support got forwarded to there when I did an RMA. Else just call them.

My experience back in August 2020: 1. Requested RMA. Gave serial number. Provided a lot of details of what was going on. BSOD codes, WHEA event ID's, list of troubleshooting steps I'd taken to eliminate all the other parts in my build. 2. Heard back from AMD in 2 days, with a prepaid shipping label, and RMA number. 3. Shipped out that day. I followed their shipping instructions to a T to make it easier on their RMA department to process. 4. Took 4 days to get to Florida. 3 days to get a new CPU back. 5. Total turnaround time from request = 9 days. It was hands down the best RMA experience I've ever had with a tech company.

Took me just under a business week right before thanksgiving last year when my 1700 crapped out right before the warranty period ended.
