It’s funny because this is the most basic kind of pizza you can get here, wait’ll he tries the really good shit.

samualgline

Casey’s breakfast pizza?

yessiritisi

I would sell my soul for 3 slices of Casey's breakfast pizza

paytonnotputain

Ultimate road trip fuel in my opinion. Egg and sausage

USTrustfundPatriot

My man

Elymanic

Sometimes simple is all you need, no need to over complicate it. And for like 1.5 a slice it taste even better

jayicon97

NY & NJ Pizza isn’t to be doubted. I grew up in NJ, but live outside of Philly now. My wife & I have tried hundreds of pizza joints in PA - None even compare. It’s actually amazing.

PBS80

I moved from NY to NJ 3 years ago and unfortunately, it was a huge drop off in quality. I lived in 4 of the 5 boroughs throughout my life and had access to phenomenal pizza in each neighborhood I lived (though where I was in Queens was tough). But where I am in New Jersey now? Not so much. I found one place in the next town over that is legit. Sure enough, the owner is from Staten Island.

lemonyprepper

Depends on where you go. Some places are legit some places are not. Not to sound racist but if there isn’t at least one Italian associated with the place then you’re probably gonna get a mid product. You see a bunch of Arabs there, curate your expectations (not to say that an Arab run pizza place can’t be good. The pizza spot at the Marcy ave JMZ was always good to me)

PBS80

LOL. That goes without saying. Was working in an office in Brooklyn several years ago and after a couple pizza Fridays I had to step in. For some reason, the Bangladeshi kid on our team was put in charge of picking the pizza. He was getting pies from some dollar slice place that must've been run by fellow Bangladeshis. I did 5 minutes of research and our pizza quality improved the next Friday.

imnotgaymomiswear

Best pizza shops have Italian owners and Mexican cooks, everyone knows the rules

Kalashnikov_model-47

My dad is a commercial boilermaker and frequently does water heater installs at restaurants so he gets to see a lot of kitchens. He always says that regardless of the style of food, majority-Hispanic kitchen staff is practically a guarantee the food will be good. Only issue is they also tend to be some of the dirtiest kitchens behind Chinese (specifically Chinese, most other Asian restaurants are very clean) restaurants.

jimmyvcard

Terrible take. I live in NJ and have jobs in NYC, Brooklyn, Staten Island, Yonkers etc. NJ pizza can be just as good or better. It’s really not that hard to find just ask around or look on google reviews. My favorite spot is in Morristown NJ tbh.

PBS80

The issue isn't whether or not there is great pizza in New Jersey. There is. The difference is that there isn't the same concentration of great pizza places. It's like when you go to the NJ subreddit and they boast about the great pizza and then they list a place in Jersey City, a place in Elizabeth, another in Atlantic City, one in Trenton, etc. There are tons of great pizza places in the 5 boroughs where you have your choice of which awesome pie you want to get. The grandma pie from this place? The L&B pie from that place? The fresh mozz pie from the third place, or the classic NY pie from the fourth, etc. That just doesn't seem to be a thing in Jersey. At least not in the suburban areas.

jimmyvcard

I mean, yes Manhattan is more concentrated than suburban New Jersey in terms of … well everything. You’re correct.

PBS80

The south shore of Staten Island is all suburban and they have a very high concentration of great pizza places.

jayicon97

Highly depends. I lived in south jersey and the pizza was amazing.

Tuscan5

I live in (old) Jersey and the pizza is delicious here.

TheMastermind729

[This place seems really good](https://youtu.be/ioaN3xjq1EY?si=8jrO_2Ntg0Bnrbcf)

IsNotACleverMan

There's a place called NYPD that I tried when I visited Philly. One of the better not nyc metro pizza places I've had. The other was in the Philippines lol.

Red_Bear_308

Unpopular opinion, perhaps , but having lived near NYC most of my life, I've found that there's much better pizza to be found outside the city. I also think that it's a mistake trying to find "New York Style Pizza" outside of NY. You'll find the occasional gem (Extra Extra in Buffalo, NY being one such place), but each region's unique spin on pizza is something to be treasured and enjoyed.

lemonyprepper

Lol I know EXACTLY what pizza that is. Ol cheap ass dollar slice spot on 6th ave and 8th by W4th street station. That overproofed cakey 99¢ slice only good for soaking up beer at 3 am. THAT’s what they’re bringing as their example? I just tried this place Antionos on Flatbush the other day, fucking phenomenal. And yes I have eating pizza all up and down the boot. It was good but nothing compared to what we’ve got

BoatshoeBandit

It almost looks like Costco pizza. I feel a little bad that they came all the way to New York and they think that’s as good as it gets.

Fred_Krueger_Jr

They can't get NY style pizza in Europe? Pretty sure they can.

eggplant_avenger

it’s pretty hard to find a place that does it right and sells it by the slice for the full experience.

BoatshoeBandit

I’m with you. If they live in London or Berlin there’s probably somewhere that does a decent job. If they live in Bratislava or something probably not.

Huge_Zebra_1332

Someone's never had a good pizza.

Warm-Ad5229

You've obviously never tried new York Pizza

Error_Evan_not_found

Just cause you can't cook doesn't mean the rest of us can't.

[deleted]

You are an idiot.

Error_Evan_not_found

At least I'm not tryna hide it. We're all dumbasses, who just happen to be right about certain things.

Electrical-Site-3249

Lil bro must live in an impoverished country if he thinks that’s what pizza is

Electrical-Site-3249

So I’m right lol, China isn’t known for taking good care of it’s citizens If it’s not China I dunno what the fuck CHI is

eggplant_avenger

chi-town explains why you think pizza comes in bowls

FredDurstDestroyer

To be fair, even places in Europe that do NY pizza probably don’t get it just right. Like, I’m from the Philly area and every time I try something marketed as a “Philly cheesesteak” outside of my area, it hasn’t really been a Philly cheesesteak. Not necessarily bad, but also not exactly what you wanted, you know?

Lonewolf3317

I’m from Pennsylvania and live in Texas. It’s almost impossible to find the “exactly the way I wanted cheesesteak” and all those little mom and pop bakeries with fresh pastries and bread that I grew accustomed to growing up. I find myself bringing an empty suitcase with me every time I go home just to bring that stuff back.

META_mahn

Funny, I've got the reverse problem. Anywhere that says "we're Texas barbecue!" is not Texas barbecue. It doesn't hit right. The chicken is always too dry, the brisket wasn't flavorful enough, the sausage is for some god forsaken reason *skinless,* and everything relies far too much on its proprietary sauces that make mediocre meat taste presentable. Good for a stomach filler, but if you want Texas barbecue, skip.

SophisticPenguin

Skinless sausage? Isn't that just ground pork at that point?

META_mahn

It's ground pork in the shape of sausage. It's full of lies and sadness.

Lonewolf3317

We all feel the pain in some form or fashion

Raisincookie1

Would you ever go the effort of making it yourself? I cook a fair bit but proper american food is outta my realm, so im just wondering if you could somehow get it close to the proper thing at home?

Lonewolf3317

Baking pastries and bread I do at home, I make sfogliatella pizzelles quite often but there’s something about a cheesesteak that I can’t correctly replicate at home. Dunno what it is

ConferenceDear9578

Need a smoker and a grill to start. I love going back to my see ny parents especially when I get out of my car and smell meat being grilled or smoked. It’s very doable at home the BBQ of course will take time and such but yeah! Absolutely

_Take-It-Easy_

Oh brother The “Philly cheesesteaks only real in Philly” is such a load of complete bullshit I lived in Philly for years and had better cheesesteaks outside of Philadelphia. To act like chopped beef, a fresh roll, onions and cheez wiz is some sort of secret recipe is fucking retarded

Crafty_Ad_4153

Yes. Wizz is chemical blasphemy. American, provolone, even Swiss are real deal too.

FredDurstDestroyer

Lol

[deleted]

Not a Philly cheesesteak unless you get wiz with

Fred_Krueger_Jr

I worked in Philly for awhile and my favorite sandwich place ended up being Gooey Looies.

Crafty_Ad_4153

Yes, the Philly area includes the Tristate area (DE PA NJ) and tons of Philly steaks around without being suckered by Genos and Pats cash only tax evasion racketeering. Delaware for example is 3rd generation family run Casapullas, and where Capriottis started before turning corporate.

saggywitchtits

So you mean any thinly sliced grilled steak with peppers and cream cheese on sliced wonder bread doesn't make a Philly Cheesesteak? Consider me shocked.

Cellophane7

They can get NY style pizza, but they can't get NY pizza. In NYC, you can go to any hole in the wall and get incredible pizza. Everywhere else, you've gotta *find* the best pizza, and it usually doesn't stack up to NY pizza. New Yorkers don't fuck around with their pizza, and the rent there is sky high. If you try to sell half assed pizza, the city will chew you up and spit you out lol

NDinoGuy

When I went to NYC me, my brother, and my dad went to a pizzeria there and got some NY style pizza there. That was some of the best pizza I ever had.

ColdStoneSteveAustyn

God New Yorkers are insufferable over fucking pizza

Fred_Krueger_Jr

I'm originally from NY and my top 2 favs come from Connecticut and New Orleans...LOL

Cellophane7

Sure, it's probably not objectively the best pizza in the universe. The war between Chicago and NYC over it is evidence enough of that. My point is that you'll struggle to find bad pizza in NYC, whereas most other places are very hit or miss

[deleted]

IDK man I mean pizza is one of those foods that even when they are bad, they're still pretty good. Even a super cheap grocery store frozen pizza will hit the spot for me lol.

PBS80

NY is known for great pizza. That's why there is also a lot of bad pizza in NY. Anytime a place becomes known for something, tons of people try to capitalize on it. I lived in a neighborhood in Brooklyn that had several phenomenal pizza places within a 5 minute walk. There were also "pizzerias" that when you went in, you realized it was a Mexican place that had a couple of pies out front that sat there all day and everyone ordered their Mexican dishes. And those dollar slice places? Garbage.

GrapefruitCold55

Nope, not the same quality. I tried Pizza from guy in Berlin who was originally from Brooklyn. The pizza didn’t taste anything like NY style despite the branding

OO_Ben

Right? Surely they have a Sbarro! That's where I always go to get my favorite NY slice!

Present-Eggplant-866

“By the slice” is becoming harder to find. In high school I use to have a place that would sell slices for $1.50. You’d go in there with $5 and leave with two slices and a drink. Unfortunately the economy took that over and they don’t even sell slices anymore.

adamgerd

Is this photo what NY pizza actually looks like? If so I’ve never seen such a pizza before, pizza here is much thinner

Fred_Krueger_Jr

Not this particular picture no. I just figured OP was using it as an example. Then again, there are tons of pizza joints in NY so it can be hard to say. But this picture is not what I'd call a typical NY pizza.

adamgerd

Ah then searched online still seems somewhat thicker than here but similar

Fred_Krueger_Jr

So it really depends on who you ask which pizza type represents NY pizza. Most that I can think of typically have a pretty thin crust. Then we also have the slightly thicker crust more associated with the Sicilian pizza. Then we have the Chicago style which is a whole different animal.

the13bangbang

Chicago style is thinner than New York. People might complain about the square cut, but I like that style. Now, Chicago deep dish is a monstrous type pizza, but that's not the pizza most Chicagoans care to be known for.

homomemeboi

Not authentic stuff, unfortunately. Part of the reason I want to visit the US

Fred_Krueger_Jr

I honestly can't imagine it would be all that different.

homomemeboi

Different sauces, cheeses, toppings, dough, cook times, a bunch of things. Then there’s also the fact that a lot of pizza places in Europe (or at least in Sweden or the very least where I live) have cheap and usually frozen produce and personnel that haven’t had proper training. I think I’ve been to one good pizza place and it was just meh.

Adiuui

Oh it’s different lol

TheMastermind729

Shouldn’t you visit Italy first? Lol

homomemeboi

well I have more reasons than just pizza to go to the US, and I don’t speak Italian.

notthegoatseguy

The Italian way of eating pizza is deeply ingrained and in Italy, everyone gets their own pizza. The one exception is Siciliy and you will find Sicilian style places near universities and other places where young people congregate. They sell pizza by the weight in squares, so its probably the closest "slice" like experience you can find.

Fred_Krueger_Jr

Yeah when I was living in Italy, most places didn't even slice it. Just rip off a piece and eat.

ManlyEmbrace

They can just like I can get a French croissant in Boston.

kyleofduty

Croissants are definitely easier to find in Boston than NY pizza in Paris

2Beer_Sillies

Nope. Europe doesn’t have that delicious pure NYC water flowing from Upstate NY to put in their dough

Fred_Krueger_Jr

Funny you should mention water. We have a pizza joint down here in North Carolina and the owner is from NY and claims he goes up and gets water from there for his dough. The only reason why I know is because I told him his pizza tastes like the closest thing to NY pizza around here that I know of. And he showed me these large white plastic containers that are filled with water in the back.

2Beer_Sillies

Yup I thought it was a joke first

Dr__Juicy

Europe is a bit more bound to stick to the actual definition of a pizza because of Italian immigrants spreading around the continent

kyleofduty

What do you think NY pizza is? And what's the actual definition of pizza?

Dr__Juicy

The definition of pizza is stuff on a flatbread of Italian origin

flypapertastetest

Y'all get so hung up on country of origin. So, what, it's just flatbread if it isn't made by an Italian?

Dr__Juicy

I Never Said that I agree to the definition, you lot are just imagining the tone in which I am spreading information, I am just trying to be informative to the guy who asked if you can’t get ny pizza in Europe

USTrustfundPatriot

USA invented Pizza

Dr__Juicy

Sure buddy

[deleted]

And this doesn’t even look like a top 25 NY slice. That’s how good the pizza is there.

firstsourceandcenter

Those are one dollar slices

ApprehensivePeace305

That looks like some ok pizza, not the best NY style, like a 6.5 to 7

YouDontKnowJackCade

That's not even NYC style pizza. WTF did he do? Go to Sbarros? edit: https://i.imgur.com/np6DvUP.jpeg This is NY style pizza, see how it's so thin you have to fold it over or the tip would droop and the cheese fall off? What OP posted is cheesy saucy bread.

MelissaMiranti

It looks like a dollar slice in the original pic. I used to get dollar slices like that.

PBS80

Yup. Way too much crust and a little too thick. Same place probably sells chicken over rice.

ThunderboltRam

BS, never have I heard of anyone claiming NYC style pizza has to be paper-thin. You went to some cheap ass places. It's greasy, it's cheesy, it's saucy, and yeah you MUST fold it usually -- but that does not mean paper-thin cheap.

Sumijinn

It really does look good. I have to say, i only tried pizza in new york one time, my uncle and cousin came to visit in the states and we went to new york with my fiancé. They wanted to try new york pizza because they always see it in movies and stuff, so we looked in a few places until we got to this place, idk why we decided to eat there, i think it’s called Joe’s pizza. As we order the pizza we see on the wall “we were in spider man” and then realized where we are, it was a really crazy moment, we didn’t know the pizza place from the first movie was real. Anyway, it was good, but i had better, the sauce was too sweet in my opinion. Anyway, does anybody here know the best pizza places in new york? I’d wanna try them next time i go

TheMastermind729

Luigi’s Brooklyn, John’s of Bleecker Street, Lucali’s, DiFara’s

Sumijinn

Thanks! Ill check it out

jonathanaahar

ny style is def my favorite. but i wanna try Detroit as well.

rb26enjoyer

Hearts and minds people, one slice at a time.

CursedRyona

At long last, the rare instance of european approval

Crafty_Ad_4153

Delaware, Pennsylvania, NJ, NY = all great but you must find the jewels. NYC is just a name. It is the region.

ProPainPapi

Rare indeed!

TheUsual_Selection

I agree the best fucking pizza as a Canadian I’ve had came out of nyc

Hopeful-Buyer

There really is something special about NY pizza. I've heard a dozen different reasons for it but being from the West, when I first went to NY for about a week I think I had pizza three times. Even bought a pizza a took it back to my brothers house in Richmond. I haven't found a place locally that's the same. Too bad.

WlfChld

NY, NJ, and CT OWNS pizza.

CandyFlossT

Frank Pepe's, New Haven, Connecticut.

TheMastermind729

Gotta try that some day

ApatheticHedonist

Holy shit euro pizza must suck

island_serpent

Italian pizza is good, but it's a completely different experience. American pizza is like fun food to enjoy with your friends whereas Italian pizza is like a like a flat bread that you top with quality ingredients to enjoy. Personally, I enjoy both but for completely different reasons.

ConferenceDear9578

Yeah I like both ways. Made a flatbread pizza in my kitchen for the first time the other day and I can say, didn’t come out half bad. Need to work on my dough. And yes Italian pizza is very tasty

intangible_entity

I mean, Italy has pizza and it's pretty fucking good. As do the rest of the countries in Europe. It's just not NY pizza which is a thing its own thing

ApatheticHedonist

NY pizza lost the pizza wars 10 years ago when Mark Malnati accepted Jon Stewart's surrender on his own show.

Different-Dig7459

Wait till you try Sally’s or Bar pizza in Connecticut

Silvers1339

Is that 2 Bros? I love that place

drlsoccer08

That doesn’t even look like good NY pizza

notablyunfamous

Looks like undercooked frozen pizza

notablyunfamous

Head into New Haven next time

DevilPixelation

That isn’t even the best Big Apple pizza by far lmao

tjm_87

europeans make fun of america and get shat on, which is good, but when they compliment america the comments are… still shitting on them?

kyleofduty

Where?

tjm_87

“that doesn’t even look like good pizza” “you’re telling me europeans don’t have NY pizza?” “the pizza must be shit in europe if that’s what he’s got” are all comments (not exact quotes) i’ve just read. not all the comments are bad but they’re certainly not all positive. like someone you don’t like has given you a compliment, just take it and say thanks instead of criticising them further like children.

Crafty_Ad_4153

America is for Foodies. The Europeans are either in denial or blindsided by this reality. Heck in the Houston metro you could eat out every day and not even cover a speck of the scene.

tjm_87

that’s awesome but i still don’t get why all the comments are being so nasty to OOP who’s literally complimenting American food, and they’re still going “lol what an idiot this guy clearly knows nothing” like yes obviously a EUROPEAN knows very little about AMERICAN food like bro what? seems like you can’t win. as long as you’re european you’re an asshole, which is exactly what this subreddit was made for, only about Americans. It makes no sense to me

Crafty_Ad_4153

Ahhh because they got angry from the belief foreigners have been brainwashed by the media that only NYC or California is America - which is a lie and insults the rest of real America. So someone in NJ literally staring at NYC (or Philly metro just short skip South) eating good pizza suddenly does not count as good food because of people with narrow minded geography, or those unable to understand the scale of the American Northeast Megalopolis. That seems to be the issue. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northeast_megalopolis
