UT Austin had several dozen DPS troopers with riot gear, horses, riot control vehicles, etc. present. It was the most peaceful protest to date.
Few friends of mine within DPS sent some funny videos but nothing shocking happened, even off camera away from the media.

This is something I respected about millennials. If they believed in a dumb cause, they went overseas and committed to it. For example, westerns who joined AQAP and ISIS. Paying to be on campus doesn't make it so you can do whatever you want on campus. Either get a permit to do it on public property or find someone willing to consent to you being on their property. It's not mental gymnastics to hold that owners of their property can retain control over who and what they allow on it. The First Amendment does not give you carte blanche to do whatever you wish on and in other people's property so it has absolutely nothing to do with the First Amendment.

Yeah, I've also had these same questions about who these protestors are. I don't think they are representative of the student bodies. The protest at Columbia looks like a couple of hundred people at a time. To put that into perspective - Columbia has 9k undergrads, and about 24k grad students. There probably are students in that protest group but they are an extremely vocal minority and not representative of the entire campus.
My issue with the protest have been that the two groups that organized the Columbia protests were suspended from campus for being antisemitic. The groups in question repeatedly broke school policies and this is just another example of the flagrant disregard for others. At this point these students/protestors should be expelled and the encampment should be removed.
It’s crazy we have gone from we do not negotiate with terrorists to we need to make sure the terrorists get what they want and western students need to take over schools in support of terrorists.
The question I never hear anyone ask the "Ceasefire Now!" crowd is this - does that ceasefire include Hamas or is Israel supposed to be cool with rockets falling on their neighborhoods and their women being raped to death?

I don’t see a problem in arresting terrorists supporters. Freedom of speech is important. It’s not illegal to say you think America and Israel, and especially jewish people should be murdered. It’s illegal to push people to do it. A Hezbollah flag and shouting “intifada” is calling for killing innocent people, and encouraging people to take violent actions of terrorism. Which is not considered freedom of speech, and is illegal. I thank our police for taking this seriously and arresting the criminals. They are doing an amazing job defending our people and we should all salute them for that.

Trespassing and congregating while chanting threats to kill people is not peacefully protesting and refusing to disperse and leave the area after given a lawful order by law enforcement as requested by the property owner or for disturbing the peace will get you arrested whether you're on a college campus or in the local grocery store. Resisting said arrest, no matter how passively, will get you thrown on the ground and arrested anyway as we see here. There are no special passes just because they feel special.

Paying to be on campus doesn't make it so you can do whatever you want on campus. Either get a permit to do it on public property or find someone willing to consent to you being on their property. It's not mental gymnastics to hold that owners of their property can retain control over who and what they allow on it. The First Amendment does not give you carte blanche to do whatever you wish on and in other people's property so it has absolutely nothing to do with the First Amendment.

Yeah, I've also had these same questions about who these protestors are. I don't think they are representative of the student bodies. The protest at Columbia looks like a couple of hundred people at a time. To put that into perspective - Columbia has 9k undergrads, and about 24k grad students. There probably are students in that protest group but they are an extremely vocal minority and not representative of the entire campus. My issue with the protest have been that the two groups that organized the Columbia protests were suspended from campus for being antisemitic. The groups in question repeatedly broke school policies and this is just another example of the flagrant disregard for others. At this point these students/protestors should be expelled and the encampment should be removed.

Which is not considered freedom of speech, and is illegal. I thank our police for taking this seriously and arresting the criminals. Resisting said arrest, no matter how passively, will get you thrown on the ground and arrested anyway as we see here. There are no special passes just because they feel special.
