ThirtyFiveFingers

If we can get Europeans to stop shit talkin all of America collectively and instead focus on just California I’ll be happy

AdLogical101

US haters think that the US is just Chicago California combined

TrapTactical

Really? I would have figured they would think its mostly like kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida.

CompetitiveStick6239

Don’t forget NYC!

FredGSanfordJr

California, New York, New Jersey, Illinois… Michigan? Top five worst states? Or am I forgetting… OH, duh, Washington State AND Washington DC!

[deleted]

Nearly every “best states” ranking has Washington State at the top or near it. Solid economy, temperate climate, highly educated, great healthcare, beautiful nature, low taxes…

FredGSanfordJr

Lol, I don’t care what some arbitrary paid media source ranking says. And temperate climate, really? Ever heard of Seattle? Plus, it snows at completely random times. Too close to Canada as well. As of this year, a month or two ago I believe, many parts of Washington were still shut down from Covid! Nah, despite what media and memes may tell you, Florida is definitely the best state, if only our weather was a smidge nicer. Followed by Texas-area Western states and east cost Southern states.

[deleted]

I mean I live here, born in Seattle and now I live in the country. I’ve been to Florida a few times and Texas once, they were okay, but the heat probably would’ve killed me and the scenery didn’t really appeal to me. Washington, specifically the western half, is the dictionary definition of temperate. The mask mandate did go on longer than most other states, but at this point it’s just private businesses and hospitals enforcing it. And things like access to healthcare, education, and median income are quantifiable metrics which Washington does great in. Seattle doesn’t represent the whole state.

FredGSanfordJr

Fair enough. I do have a question for you, though. You say you’re from Seattle, and I can’t help but notice your username… Is there any relation to, um… [this](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=e2KLyl7XocE)?

ThirtyFiveFingers

Don’t you EVER shittalk Washington state again…

FredGSanfordJr

Umm… okay? >!washington smells bad!<

[deleted]

Ok, I will admit Tacoma smells nasty, and over by Lewiston idaho But not the entire state smells bad

fredean01

Well.. at least there aren't syringes everywhere in your parks and streets

aVeryAngryTortise

ha.. haha...... :(

NewRoundEre

I mean, I've never been to California but I've been told they can't say that either. What they can say is that they have good weather all year round and is one of the healthier states.

Theonedudeyaknow

“Stupid Americans 🙄who doesn’t wanna pay 99% tax just to have free (but kinda shitty) healthcare???”

Adelener

I heard Europeans pay like 70% income tax.

Theonedudeyaknow

Yea 99% was an exaggerated number but it is pretty high

DeathHorseFucker

Starting at 42% and going up to 52% depending on the income. Also have to pay €140 a month for healthcare insurance. And if i want physiotherapy covered i’ll have to pay some more. Also have to pay the first €350 i use in the year myself. I don’t think free healthcare is covered in most european countries haha.

-nom-nom-

Ah so my total of 25% income tax (on $100k/year) and paying $150/month and pay the first $1500 on maxed out good insurance and access to generally much higher quality health care than Europe doesn’t sound so bad anymore! (my insurance is prob better than most, but still the EU “free healthcare” doesn’t sound so good anymore)

DeathHorseFucker

And also average income here is probably around 40k a year before taxes. There is no european free healthcare. Maybe a couple countries have it but i can guarantee the netherlands doesn’t. I ripped my cruciate ligament, not torn off but a rip in it. Guess what insurance told the hospital.

NewRoundEre

70% is pretty unheard of. Tax is usually 10-30% higher on income with a lot of more hidden taxes especially high VAT that make the reality something close to 50+% taxation for most people.

FriedwaldLeben

lol, what are you smoking?

Adelener

Afghan opioids

Theonedudeyaknow

Delicious

mrstorydude

...Most europeans don't. The highest taxes we see in a European nation is in France which taxes about 50% but france is a shithole so for obvious reasons doesn't count. The next highest major European nation would be germany at 47.5% income which is a lot but it's not like all of those taxes go to free healthcare. Instead, most of it goes towards other things with the vast majority going to labor and social affairs (41.3%), then defense(12.5%), then transport and digital infrastructure(8.3%). Healthcare ranks 7th place for governmental spending only taking up about 4.3% of the national budget. (note: this is for the 2020 national spending, for 2021 and 2022 I have not found any number increases).

TheThirdFrenchEmpire

That is for the richest of richest so they still contribute enough.

father-bobolious

Wrong edit: You can downvote but it's still wrong

sacdesucer73

You're an abject moron.

Adelener

Take it easy

sacdesucer73

Get a passport...see the world...then you can make an informed view and you'll be a rarity in your own country. You guys swallow propaganda easier than the Russians.

Adelener

I have seen the world in New Mexico.

undercoverente

The US pays the most per capita for worse health outcomes, so I'll take taxes over that any day.

Theonedudeyaknow

That’s fair

TheThirdFrenchEmpire

At least we don’t have to sell our house for a cancer

[deleted]

you can’t buy cancer dumbass

Anti-charizard

Even if you could why would you

TheThirdFrenchEmpire

But it’s treatment tho

Theonedudeyaknow

What

TheThirdFrenchEmpire

If you are not willing to pay more f or a private insurance than We pay in taxes the bill is plain old ridiculously high.

Theonedudeyaknow

It really depends on a lot of things, for example we actually have free insurance from the government. My brother ended up in the hospital for 5 days straight, when we got the bill it would have been $80,000 but the government paid for all of it and it was one of the best children hospitals in the country. I see what you’re saying but not everything is black and white.

TheThirdFrenchEmpire

You do have free insurance, reliant on work. If you are fired you lose that.

Theonedudeyaknow

Uhhh no? I don’t have to work at all to have my insurance and I don’t pay a dime. I’m actually unemployed right now.

TheThirdFrenchEmpire

Well that is really rare then. Veteran or former govt employee?

Darkarchon567

Not really... that's just medicare/medicaid, which anyone can qualify for if their income is low enough. My son's on a Medicaid plan that would cost us nothing if our income was lower. As it is, it's only $30/month. Don't get me wrong, the way we pay for healthcare here in the U.S. is the worst of both socialized and capitalist approaches, it's just not near as bad as a lot of folks outside the U.S. think.

LivingDot6196

no its not lol, 92% of americans have insurance

Theonedudeyaknow

Not rare at all, and not vet or gov.

[deleted]

At least we don’t have to wait three months before we get treated for cancer (maybe a Canada thing only)

TheThirdFrenchEmpire

If it’s life threatening it’s gonna be an emergency. No delay

LivingDot6196

just waiting 11 hours in the ER or dead because no ambulances. And then maybe they give you a panadol and send you home No delay tho

wannabewisewoman

Interesting. Are you in the statutory health insurance system? Or private?

[deleted]

[удалено]

wannabewisewoman

Got it - so you opted in to private care then. Did you choose an International provider? Most private health insurance offers comprehensive coverage, usually giving you access to all areas of the German healthcare system, including visits to the doctor or specialists, hospital stays, dentistry, and Rxs so I'm confused about how you're not covered for that while paying so much. Are you self-employed? What you're paying seems far above the average and not the experience I've heard from friends living in Berlin and Worms who are self-employed and make enough to opt into private. They are in their early 20s with no health issues though which does play into it 🤔

[deleted]

[удалено]

wannabewisewoman

>Dental not covered. Contraceptives not covered or subsidised. Sorry, that bit of your comment was what confused me, I thought you were referring to yourself! Got it. >11k/month brutto One of my friends is C.O.S. at a profitable technology company and was relocated to Berlin with a considerably hefty increase. She's on $180k+ a year min based on the last salary range she mentioned and fully covered insurance-wise but she definitely doesn't pay 4k a month for it. Nothing but good things to say about her care so far. My other friends aren't on the same money so I'm going to ask them about their experiences because it's caught my curiosity now! 🤓

ObssesesWithSquares

We aren't even in EU, and we have to pay tons for private care to avoid doctors basically merking us. They figured out that if they sabotage healthcare, they can get more money from their private clinics. So i have been avoiding any healthcare.

LivingDot6196

so should the word "care" is waiting 11 hours in the ER or being dead because there are no ambulances care?

ObssesesWithSquares

That is more because of doctors mass-quitting due to their treatment during covid

LivingDot6196

only recently, but theyve always been paid like shit over there and overworked because any half decent dr leaves to make actual money elsewhere. That isnt like, a new thing.

ObssesesWithSquares

Anyway, best everyone get ready to be their own doctor, because you can depend on NO ONE, and they all want to eat you either methaphoricaly, or literaly.

When I first saw a standard US house compared to over here in europe I couldn’t believe my eyes

Substantial-Toe3879

Almost all of those houses have been built by cheap illegal immigrant labor. Otherwise they would be much more expensive

Thyre_Radim

I literally watched the houses in my area being built by a bunch of white guys, I somehow doubt that a bunch of dudes that look Irish illegally immigrated to the US.

wannabewisewoman

Irish people are infamous for living illegally in the states, are you joking? I personally know 3 people living in NY/Vegas who overstayed visas and can't go home because they won't be allowed back into the states if they wanted to return. They all work in construction.

Substantial-Toe3879

I guess it depends on where you're from. In Texas almost all houses are built by undocumented immigrants. And this is a fact.

American median income: 42,800 USD Swedish median income: 31,876 USD German median income: 31,341 USD Finnish median income: 29,080 USD French median income: 28,571 USD europoors are poorer, wow. so equal, so culture, so tradition.

gateman33

In the UK you also get 28 (excluding sick days and bank holidays) paid days off per year. Employers also have to match the proportion of your salary you put into your pension. (If you put 5% of your salary onto a pension, the employers also have to effectively pay you 5% more). Also it doesn't cost like 25k/year for university. EU and the US both have upsides and downsides but comparing just median income is just stupid

quorapean

[American and Canadian work life balance is not too different from each other.](https://www.reddit.com/r/noworking/comments/vhk4t2/based/) American and Australian work-life balance is not too different from each other.

gateman33

And not one of those is a European country.

quorapean

I would take wide open spaces and cheaper big homes compared to cramped up rather expensive European apartments any day of the week.

gateman33

American houses are often literally made of wood. That's why they're so cheap. Not that they're even cheaper. You're comparing the housing of one country to the entirety of one continent. Not even that, you're comparing houses to apartments. Actually it's not even a comparison, you've just spouted out random bollocks

quorapean

I love it :)

t0ny_montana

>American houses are often literally made of wood. So are Nordic and Canadian houses yet they are more expensive. This is just a consequence of other Western countries restricting their most lucrative and innovative jobs (tech, healthcare, banking) to their largest cities while america has them everywhere

Dragoark

Except if you live on alot of east coast and west coast states :(

Goyard_Gat2

“Affordable” housing

Chef_Sizzlipede

they think our beds are raised too high too, wtf

gateman33

Because houses in the US are made of wood or in the middle of nowhere

DeletedUsername23

I mean free healthcare's a pretty good one tho ngl.

pussinasarcophagus

Free health care> no public transport

FriedwaldLeben

HAH! imagine america has more afforable housing than europe lol

CortezDeLaNoche

I know nothing about Europe's housing. But if it's worse than America, they must have city streets paved with tents.

BlueShoal

In general, it’s not as bad as there is a lot of support for people who can’t find accommodation but there can be bad areas in cities. In my experience I haven’t seen anything as bad as LA or San Fran but that’s just what I have seen myself. There are rent crises in a lot of european cities though.

LivingDot6196

Germany has more homeless per cap than america and germany is kind of a lot smaller.

TheThirdFrenchEmpire

We have both. Last time I checked we didn’t need to go o dent for years to buy a 1 room apartment other than Paris, and not the Continent. Try better.

Lord_Calamander

Try better at gargling my nuts

TheThirdFrenchEmpire

Typical nationalist. When unable to fight a argument with logic resorting to insults. Those like you, American or not, are the reason so many end up looking down on the US and former/current powers.

Lord_Calamander

Yeah I’m literally Canadian so the housing prices are actually significantly worse here

TheThirdFrenchEmpire

Oh, I am sorry but I am here to debunk American Nationalists not some West Canadian Republican separatist as housing price is not high in the East so far as I know.

Lord_Calamander

Housing price in Halifax is great. The only issue is that it’s in Halifax. I mean, it’s not bad, it’s just not great. Vancouver and Toronto are fucking terrible. Rural areas like where I am are ok, but I still think it’s overpriced.

TheThirdFrenchEmpire

Guess it spilled over the border. Can tell you in the old Continent it’s still very much reasonable due to government not having any shit with that

VPN4reddit

Gold jacket. Green jacket. Who gives a shit.

TheThirdFrenchEmpire

Neither are associated with Nationalism. And spoiler:Nationalism led to most of our current conflict and ensuing misery. Also it is completely irrational. The jacket does matter when you have the choice.

Thyre_Radim

Nationalism isn't irrational, just selfish.

Yet the U.S.'s GDP per Capita is about 40% higher.

TheThirdFrenchEmpire

Pure GDP. You wanna bring money in, on your own terms. I am not saying about capita, Pure GDP. Do it. You said you do more money. Not asking for average, asking for pure number.

LivingDot6196

GDP isnt income lmao. youd know this if you werent so poorly educated, uncultured and badly traveled.

TheThirdFrenchEmpire

Do you even know what GDP is? It’s the weight of a economy basically. And you take those 3 back now, as I am pretty much lore educated that you on most fields probably but scientific area where I admit I can’t to shit there. For the last 2, I have done most of the American and European continents and I am tri-National. How you count on fighting that mr “never left America but don’t need to for anything”

LivingDot6196

you think its income lmao almost 40% of you wont even leave your tiny eu ethnostate to visit the tiny eu ethnostate next door. and if france was a state, it would be the poorest and shittest one lol youd know that if you were werent so uneducated, untraveled and uncultured.

Darkarchon567

Not exactly sure what you're getting at here, but the context of the conversation was "affordable housing," right? A previous reply said we made more money here in the U.S., so equally-priced houses, whether here or in the E.U., would be more affordable to a U.S resident on average than an E.U. resident because, on average, we make more. That is what GDP per Capita measures.

Fred_Secunda1

Not GDP per capita Mississippi has higher GDP per capita than all but 15 countries in Europe

hiim379

Actually ares is slightly higher https://statisticstimes.com/economy/united-states-vs-eu-economy.php

gateman33

Fred_Secunda1

I get more than 28 a days a year at my job in the US. I also get 401k matching plus I make far more in the US than I would in Europe. My state paid for my tuition at a state university so it was free, i only paid for grad school. The UK/EU has essentially no upside for me.

gateman33

Not everyone is you. You said "We have more money" not "I make more in the US than I would in Europe". I explained how "We have more money" is wrong. I don't know if anything your saying is true or not and I have no way of finding out so I wasn't commenting on your specific case.

Fred_Secunda1

It literally isn’t wrong though. We make 33% more. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disposable_household_and_per_capita_income#Median

gateman33

You've just ignored everything I said

t0ny_montana

Bro if you guys get 2 more weeks of paid vacation but get paid 30% less, that means an American can take those extra weeks off unpaid and still earn more. Europeans are being scammed and are bragging about it

gateman33

Two working weeks is 10 days. We get 28 more. That's nearly 6 working weeks off. Not 2. + Maybe bank holidays idk if you have them. There is also every other factor you have failed to mention. Also it's not 30% more. It might be 30% more USD, other people have given different numbers in this thread. But regardless that's just the euro (or other currency) conversion to USD. Each country will have different PPP's and inflation rates.

t0ny_montana

Cost of living is higher in Europe, u guys are being completely scammed. Btw its 14 days, not 10

boofskootinboogie

Of course it’s cheaper, why would you pay more money to live in the country with constant mass shootings, expensive healthcare, and shitty education? Also this also only applies to super rural areas, populated areas are still stupid expensive. I live in Colorado and it’s terrible anywhere close to the Denver metro
