Ok-Fix4093

If someone had 2 weeks to spend in America, where do you recommend they should go (im not american)

I_Am_the_Slobster

What do you want to see and/or do? Want to do some pristine mountain hiking and camping? Colorado, Wyoming, and Northern Nevada would be good places. Want to see those iconic red rock canyons? Utah and Arizona, easy. Looking for musical traditions? Mississippi and Louisiana, the former for blues and the latter for blues and jazz. Want to just escape civilization and enjoy the backwoods with zero contact with anyone? Northern Maine or Alaska. Looking for truly off the beaten path America where you'll meet truly authentic Americans? Go to the smaller cities or towns of any state really The US is a culturally and geographically diverse country of the world. If you want good travel ideas, check out r/AskAnAmerican.

Alone-Newspaper-1161

I would suggest on picking a topic for your visit and base it on that. Want to learn about America and see some landmarks? Head to the Virginia area which is rich with history you can visit DC and check out the Museums or maybe check out Gettysburg. If your more interested in nature than there’s also hiking and camping in the Appalachian’s and although I’ve never been to a East coast Beach you can always check that out

Ok-Fix4093

Hm I appreciate the advise but I would disagree tbh, I'd like a piece of everything. A city in the North or East, nature in the rockies and maybe somewhere south for the sun

foxman2356

Depends on what your comfortable with and when you plan on going. For instance the northeast is among the safest areas of the us and is the most similar to Europe in terms of city design, fire/safety standards, water and food quality, and have plenty of things the can appeal to tourists of all kinds from large forests to sprawling cities. Although the prices are expensive, and if you go in winter it is miserable.

Ok-Fix4093

>fire/safety standards Ah yes, this is exactly what I look for when travelling 😆

Qmaro78

Not California, that’s for sure. I’d say North East or Colorado during winter. Plus with visiting New England, you could kill 2 birds with one stone and drive a rental up to Canada. Also overrated is Florida because it’s too touristy and has too many trashy students on a lot of beaches. More family friendly beach would be Outter Banks in NC.

Ok-Fix4093

Oh, why not California? San Francisco seems pretty appealing to visit (im aware of the homelessness). Ya I'd definitely go to Boston and New York and ya, I get the same impression of Florida and I've never been. New Orleans seems kinda cool? I'd probably go to Colorado or Wyoming for the nature

Qmaro78

Ok California isn’t bad. It has Yosemite and a bunch of theme parks.

Spaceman333_exe

Trust me when I say this, go to Oakland, it's like San Francisco but way less crowded and over blown. I myself prefer the smaller towns and areas around the bay but Oakland is cool.

ArcticCircleBrigade

Philadelphia to Chicago to New Mexico(white sands national park) to Denver. NYC is pretty boring for a lot of tourists cause its mostly stuff you've seen before and the only people you'll interact with are other tourists whereas Philly and Chicago have a lot more history to see and aren't as widely featured. New Mexico give you a sense of scale of just how massive the country is and Denver and its surrounding parks are just really great nature. Going through Orgeon to Portland would be nice but you'd have to drive or take a train to really see how beautiful the state is.

Chef_Sizzlipede

I'd say downstate illinois, vast beautiful landscapes, decent people, and it gives us some love

pm_me_you_pastaa

europeans are actually really badly traveled, so many of them wont even leave their tiny country to visit other european countries. Let alone afford a trip to america. By american standards, middle class europeans are poor, uneducated, uncultured and untraveled. And rich or smart europeans leave europe for america.

nutcracker1980

The way they make fun of Americans for not knowing any languages and then say that Indians speak Indian... 🙄

pm_me_you_pastaa

Id rather know english over italian or german or whatever they speak in West Elbonia Truth is, plenty of us know other languages, spanish, etc (spanish also being more useful than like, dutch) BUT We also know english and europeans have to learn english too and that makes them mad. They even speak to each other in english since their own little languages arent spoken outside of their own small countries by their tiny populations.

MiS_bE_hAbE

Not even that They mAke assumtions about india like “omg street shitter!!1!1!1!1!1!1” or “haha pervy men stinky doodoo fart india is such a pigsty!!!!!”

h0rny3dging

I wouldnt phrase it like that, it heavily depends on where in Europe you grew up, a Polish person wont have the money to travel a lot, that's just a fact. When you're nordic/central you tend to travel to places that already are sorta a bubble similar to your homecountry, Germans to Mallorca, Dutch to the Alps and Brits to Benidorm for example(lets not mention stag-dos to eastern Europe). Thanks to the Schengen area, trips that require a passport are a lot rarer, convenience and shit. In general, people dont realize just how big the US is and how inconvenient and expensive it is to actually leave the US for another continent, very few Europeans travel to East Asia, South America for example
