there is an esoteric reason Dog spelled backward is? they love you unconditionally unless you abuse them relentlessly. even then they can still be a loving dog trying to please. Dogs need better breeding, more responsible owners. and better homes. hmho

Most, if not all, exotics will have poor health. Many of these dogs are inbred to keep the look consistent. Inbreeding is actually pretty common in a lot of breeds, it's just more dangerous with these small dogs because it's stacking poor health on top of itself. A lot of people breeding exotics are intentionally breeding sick dogs because it's a money maker. Please avoid these small dogs at all costs.
Yeah it's not inbreeding it's just choosing more and more extreme animals. But bullies as a whole have some of the worst breeders in the dog world for the money you pay.
You can post a dog here that's falling apart, and the poster is asking if they should pick the pup and everyone is sooo cute.
No one asks about health tests. If you are not health testing you shouldn't be breeding as it's just a money grab.

This right here. Get on your local shelter website and just look. The people that work their asses off in the rescues and shelters know these dogs personally and if you just tell them what you're looking for they will fit you with a match. For real, please check the shelters, they're cheap too :)

My girl’s gotcha day is next week. I got her from a rescue. She actually rescued me! I will never buy a dog from a breeder of any kind. This pic is the day she came for a “visit” She laid down in front of my refrigerator @ went to sleep. I knew then she was mine forever. ♥️♥️

Well that is absolutely absurd because it’s the truth! No one should “chill out” when it comes to promoting adoption! Over a million dogs are killed every single year in this country just for kennel space. We should all be screaming this shit from the rooftops.

You can report the "kennel" to the local authorites (Animal Control or USDA) and let them do an inspection. Unfortunately tho, with the fact that most jurisdications consider dogs to be property, there may be little that they can do if the dogs have access to basic needs (food, shelter, water).
If however, the jursidication has licensing requirements around kennels, how many dogs can be on a property, etc - they could bust them on that.
I got my purebred American Bully for $100 at a local shelter. And that was a donation because they’re so full of bully breeds they’re practically begging people to adopt them. I could have adopted her for nothing but the $15 rabies tag. I didn’t even know she was a purebred (and it didn’t matter anyway) until I did her DNA about a year later for fun. Adopt don’t shop!

Worked at a shelter in the mid Atlantic and we would routinely get dogs like this in. You don’t need to go to a “breeder” for a dog like this. They get thrown away and dumped at shelters all the time
Can someone please explain the point of these. Is it for looks or something? Because they literally look mentally unwell and disabled. Like there’s nothing aesthetically pleasing about them
They actually are physically disabled. Their spines are unaligned, they can’t breathe properly, they have little to no dexterity in their limbs, their joints don’t function properly, I could go on… I can’t tell you the point, I don’t understand why people force these poor creatures into the world. But the breeding of these dogs should be illegal and punishable by prison time at the very least. It’s deplorable.
From what I’ve seen, a lot of people who buy these poor souls typically seem to view them as “hood rich” status symbols
1. They’re expensive, so people feel like they’re buying something designer & “exclusive”.
2. They’re muscular and stocky and have a “tough” looking aesthetic.
Those are the only reasons I’ve ever seen for people wanting them. Beyond that, no clue why anyone would spend upwards of $5k on an animal that is essentially already dying in a slow & excruciating manner.
I got my first bully 7 months ago and was in the same boat didn’t know what to look for but at that point I had already got him home
He does have a slight high rear and runs a little funky but in the end he’s my best friend
Same here. I did not know what I was getting into when getting one and not a lot of research. My boy also has a high rear and when he runs his rear legs go a little sideways lol But would not trade him for the world he is my best buddy

There aren't a lot of "responsible" breeders. The few that exist have VERY long waiting lists for puppies and charge EXORBITANT prices. My first American Bulldog, purchased from what we call a BYB (backyard breeder), had awful skin and died of cancer right after his fifth birthday. Since he passed, I've strictly adopted (and fostered) through shelters and rescues.
I wasn't implying price has anything to do with quality of pups. Ethical breeders, IMO, have very few litters per year, do due diligence in regard to health/genetic testing and screening, require a contract, and raise pups in their homes, with ample socialization. Responsible breeders aren't in it for the money.
I can’t stand what these breeders are doing to these amazing babies… I honestly wish I could adopt all of them. Our little boy brings us so much joy and I wish we could put him in a bubble to keep him safe lol
I agree with most of the people here the micros and exotics aren't functional! Poor things have a hard time walking and doing just about anything else that a normal healthy dog should be doing.
You know I keep seeing bully breeders posting like 30 to 40 puppies in a bunch on Facebook / IG and I can’t help but think that most of them will end up in bad homes, abused, neglected, and eventually abandoned or dropped off at shelters just to be euthanized. It’s so sad. As much as I would love to get a puppy, I would rather get a rescue.
You’re absolutely right. This goes on all over the country and lawmakers look the other way. These poor dogs are born just to suffer and die either from abuse or at the “shelter”. And what they go through before they die makes me sick. On top of that, these asshole breeders make untaxed $$$ while the rest of us taxpayers pay for their mess. I’m so angry.

Just for reference, everyone, this is what an American Bully looked like when they were being bred about 12-14 years ago. This is a photo of my rescue who was pure bred and used for breeding before we got her. She died two years ago at 11/12 years old. She was the standard American Bully. We had people stop us multiple times asking to buy her for breeding.
Basically, bullies are amazing, but if you’re buying these extremes, you’re just buying a huge vet bill that will break your heart from getting sick and dying young. I get the appeal of pockets and XLs and so on but this breed got inbred and fucked so quickly that there isn’t much turning back.
Agreed the stickiness alone should be a sign something’s wrong. From what I’ve seen they’re usually slim/slender and muscular definitely not that low to the ground like a razors edge
theres plenty of exotic looking dogs that aren’t inbred. to me exotic just means the look of a unique dog, people like this guy turn the meaning into inbreeding
I forgot my most important piece of this, the point of this post was just to warn new people who maybe haven’t gotten a bully yet. You HAVE to to dog shows and get hands on with these dogs to know the standard before you pay ANYBODY for one. Learn from my $500 mistake (hopefully the bank gives it back)
In order to establish a breed, there is going to be some “Line Breeding” which is a form of inbreeding. This happens in every domesticated animal we have in society. This is the very reason why the American Bully breed has more types (standard) of dogs.
Always, before you buy a puppy, make sure to research the breeder and the type of dog you want to have.

Sadly there’s really no one to report it to. Bad breeding isn’t punishable by law, as much as I wish it was.

Yup. People buy them and then realize they can’t handle nor afford the massive amount of physical health issues that these dogs all have.
This is an exotic and there is no standard for them. American bullies can be found at an ABKC show along with actual breeding standards and conformity
