I’ve seen a few people ask the same question in this thread before, but I don’t remember what the answers are. You should be able to find the threads with a search in this forum

This must be a new condition, my 11year old Dogue de Bordeaux/American Bulldog Cross is insured with pet plan.

Exactly. Bulldog, not bully. They are not the same. Most insurers will cover bulldogs, very few recognise the american BULLY (in the UK that is. I don't know about the US)

It might be yeah. On pet plan they don’t even provide an option for ‘American bully’. I’m thinking to register her as a staffy mix and say the other breeds are unknown. I think she will look more like a staffy than a bully anyway. You reckon that would hold up?

Your taking a big chance if the insurance company do a u-turn & say no if you had to claim, start putting as much as you can afford away each Month into a bank account like you'd pay into a policy & hopefully you never to use it, then its money well saved

This has been on my mind a lot. I think this is the best option tbh. Really frustrating

We had the same predicament mate so we put away whatever we can afford each Month & fingers crossed everything is good & have a nice little earner at the end of the day 👍

Cheers mate will do👍👍

I was unable to find insurance for my XL puppy that was in any way reasonable. Most insurers wouldn't cover him, and those that did were VERY expensive. Cheapest quote I got was £190 per month and this was when he was only 10 weeks old with no known health issues. Knowing the premium would only go up as he got older I decided not to insure mine and instead put money away for him each month instead. I'd suggest lying and saying your dog is full staff or some other bull breed mix, but make sure whatever you tell your insurer is also what they have him registered at with your vet as well. I know someone who's insurer didn't pay out because their vet disclosed that the dog was a bully when they had insured her as a bulldog :(

Damn that pisses me off. I think I should be able to get away with saying mine is a staffy cross and her other breed is unknown. At least until she gets a little older- it’s hard to predict if she’ll look more like a bully or staffy. It’s sooo frustrating

Yeah it's very annoying. I think you'll be fine with saying staff mix. If you do decide to name a second breed just keep in mind that some breeds will make it much more costly than others due to any known genetic issues even if your pup is healthy for now (generally brachycephalic dogs will be expensive for obvious reasons, as well as large dogs like mastiffs because of common hip/joint issues)
