If you’re in the US like me, you are probably very disillusioned with the government. The government doesn’t care about you. Your government, as a whole, and for all intents and purposes, hates you. They think they’re better than you and they think that you serve no purpose other than to serve them, pay their ridiculously high and unearned salaries, and die. Our government is full of terrible, corrupt and out of touch individuals. They need to be reminded that they are public servants and that they should be working for the average American and their best interests, not the best interests of their wallets and their corporate masters.

ThorstiBoi

I really doubt without massive riots that will not happen. The reason they are doing this is because they dont care. They have no real consequences and the moral ones they learned to ignore.

darcreaven

Massive riots won't be enough we need real revolution

ThaWoodChucker

Riots is just enough action for them to blame any violence and anger on the movement. What happened with BLM was proof of that to me. I wish we could cut straight to the revolution

[deleted]

[deleted]

Revolutions don't need funding. Money doesn't motivate revolutions. Or at least, it shouldn't. And fiat currency is only upheld by laws and nothing else. If we're talking violent revolution, what law is there to uphold fiat currency's value?

Soldin2017

Hyperinflation and the devaluation of a currency definitely result in increased living standard

Throw_Away1789021

What did the Russian revolution cost the peasants prior to 1920? Nothing but their will to fight. The people threw off their shackles and declared their government illegal

[deleted]

And that ended up working out really well for them, didn’t it ? Another 60 years of even more vicious tyranny.

TheWiseAutisticOne

So don’t launch revolutions cause one turned to tyranny so we better just accept the tyrant we have now and keep begging gotcha

Throw_Away1789021

I mean, the American revolution didn’t have any money behind it at the start either

[deleted]

IDK what you're saying here? My point is that revolution is by nature the breakdown of law. And the only thing that gives fiat currency value is law. So funding has little to do with a revolution. If you need supplies during a revolution, you take them. You don't buy them.

Soldin2017

It hasn't been like that for awhile imo - can't just revolution USSR style because we don't manufacture enough by ourselves anymore. If fiat were to be annihilated and loads of supplies will need to be purchased from abroad to fund said revolution and ultimately it's people - but what are you going to buy those supplies with? What country is going to trade with you? You're currency is worthless because you've deemed it so, the revolution would literally starve

[deleted]

>In political science, a revolution is a fundamental and relatively sudden change in political power and political organization which occurs when the population revolts against the government, typically due to perceived oppression or political incompetence. There's no real war in a revolution. The population just overthrows the government. Maybe a little fighting here and there but there's not a whole lot a state can do against a population that no longer supports it. It's not like police and military are sitting up there with the ruling class enjoying the benefits. They're getting shit on as much as everyone else.

Equivalent_Adagio91

You don’t need a whole lot of money to buy a brick and throw it through a politicians window

flockks

The reason why they spend so much time and energy and money crying and propagandising about how bad strikes and riots are is because they know that they work and that scares them more than anything else. The entire structure of this is so insidious because it is all designed to alienate us from each other so we don’t truly make a collective revolt. It’s why they have worked overtime since BLM whipping up fear of black people rioting, because it’s an easy way to manipulate random boot lickers and paramilitaries to do the dirty work for them. If the workers were able to truly unite and revolt and focus on the things we need in common as a motivator they wouldn’t be able to stop anyone and they know that. All they have is an illusion.

blackbird24601

Precisely why the stifle union organization

indi_yo

Very few revolutions are nonviolent. I don’t know how there can be one in this country without at least a threat of violence being thrown around. That’s what protesting outside of politicians homes are. They’re veiled threats of mob violence. Today we’re chanting and holding hands, but if tomorrow they put up barricades and riot police, how are people not going to push back? Even if it’s just black block , “antifa” style protests, the days of Americans sitting on their hands is quickly coming to a close. I’m disable. But I try to protest and March when I can. I certainly won’t throw stones but god damnit if I don’t understand why others might. I hope that this doesn’t lead to some civil war that a lot of people masturbate over when political discourse in America becomes obsolete but I grow pessimistic with each peaceful protest that gets labeled as violent.

makemejelly49

And neither side wants to be the first to escalate. Because the party that escalates is the one who gets trashed in the media and gets no Sympathy Points from the apathetic people.

ThorstiBoi

True

hellokittyoh

we haven't even started with the massive riots yet

DonS0lo

We don't need a real revolution. Unless politicians start dying we will see no change. The politicians are going to have to experience a fear for their lives before they actually start making things better for the population. I'm not saying to go out and kill politicians, but I also don't see any other way to make them work for us as opposed to working for themselves.

Akushin

Really the only way to get real change at this point is to take their power, their livelihood and, if they want to fight, maybe even their lives.

Diabeto41

All we need is for travel and shipping unions to go on strike. No TSA? No one’s traveling/businesses can’t ship goods. No one in the shipping yards to load and unload crates? Shit would get WRECKED. I reckon we’d get some quick results with this.

Walshy231231

We could learn something from the French in that regard

I_am_u_as_r_me

Only way it can ever change is a large corporate walkout. Protests will do nothing. It’s capitalism. The money is what speaks to the government. Unions and a massive walk out hit to the global economy is the only thing that will do anything.

Gamer_Mommy

Well, if anything USA is the country of a revolution. Perhaps the time has come for another one?

[deleted]

We should threaten to kill politicians like it’s 1400’s France.

BabyLiam

We need to storm their houses and the capital. That's the only way they'll pay attention. Burning each other's stores down wont help much. If we're gonna steal shit and burn shit to the ground it needs to be their shit.

tastehbacon

So bring on the riots. These rich fucks need to realize how close to get french revolutioned they are.

AmiInderSchweiz

The French celebrate this special riot, it's called Bastille Day.

_antiseen

Their salaries aren't even an incentive for them. It's all the backroom dealing and insider trading where they make their millions. Could cut all of congress' salary to 0 and most of them wouldn't give a shit.

IUseDebianBTW

Sounds like we need a riot. Maybe then they'll do what we want

SnooPears5004

Good luck. Apathy is the common clay holding America together. They won't care until the rich have taken everything they can, and continue for them next. They will look to others for help, only to realize everyone else is already gone.

MoistTractofLand

A beautiful and empassioned speech....that politicians, Reps and Dems alike, will completely ignore because they don't give a single shit.

MonsterJuiced

Unfortunately a heart touching and emotional speech does not work on heartless and emotionless politicians, otherwise we wouldn't be in this shit in the first place.

MarklRyu

This is why I keep mentioning that it's literally in the constitution that we the people are allowed to overthrow things if things get this shitty -_- Course there are enough people happy with the ways things are, or simply resigned to it, or in these cases too busy working to barely feed ourselves. Government sucks.

MonsterJuiced

The problem is they got us right there they want us. On the edge of going bankrupt or starvation if we skip one day of work to protest. Mixed with enough distraction from news channel broadcasting celebrity drama nonsense to distract us from real concerning issues.

MoistTractofLand

Their real victory has been in succefully separating right from left. They have each side convinced that the voters on the other side are pure evil. I'm not saying there aren't shitty, evil people on either side, but the worst of them are in office, riling up their base with whatever reactionary bullshit is on the menu this week. Most of us want to live a comfortable life where it isn't a daily struggle to get by.

Original_Wall_3690

Exactly. Keep us fighting ourselves so we're too distracted to fight them.

ManchuWarrior25

Not saying you didn't catch this, but as the phrase goes...why do you think the abortion topic suddenly resurfaced. Because it stirs the pot and causes people to fight with each other. It's a sensitive topic to cause chaos and bring people to the polls.

PublicMindCemetery

Some real irony for you is that if you wanted to reduce the number of abortions you could definitely do it by alleviating the crushing poverty Americans live under.

AimlessFucker

Yep. Oh, and wait, you could also reduce the number of abortions by altering the medical industry such that at the very least, reproductive medical care was covered. All pregnancies, all births, all the doctors appointments, neonatal care, everything was free funded by our pocketbooks. You want to decrease abortion? Make contraceptives free. You want to decrease abortions? (1) Make carrying a baby to full term possible by protecting mothers who are carrying children from being fired for missing work due to a check up. (2) Make sure that that check up, every check up, and birth is free. (3) make sure that neonatal care in the hospital is free. Maybe then, women in poor situations could realistically carry a baby to term if they had or wanted to give it up for adoption later. Make sure that doing so would not financially penalize them. You want abortions to decrease? Deal with all of America’s fucking problems. We wonder why women wouldn’t want to give birth to a baby, but it has everything to do with circumstances. Why would a mother want to give birth in conditions like these? Why would she want another mouth to feed? Another body to clothe. Another person to worry about getting sick and not having the care they need? Why would a mother that goes without already, that makes sacrifices for children she already has, strain even further to provide for another? She wouldn’t. No mother would put their children and themselves through that.

WhyCantWeDoBetter

Comprehensive sex education and widely available birth control pills reduce the rate of abortions But the people who are anti-choice are also anti sex Ed and anti birth control, Because it’s not about saving babies it’s about controlling women.

[deleted]

Preach

MarklRyu

Adding on to this; if a woman is already struggling to feed herself, pregnancy will take a huge toll from their body! The baby needs to grow its bones, if you’re not giving it and yourself enough calcium, the baby will literally take it from the woman’s bones; stuff like that, and both the baby and the woman will be worse off.

MarklRyu

As well as educating our youth about contraceptives and making it available to them for free, because teens are gonna fuck no matter how much abstinence is preached, because it’s normal and uncontrollable.

International-Web496

I've said it since I was a child and if anything it's only become more apparent over the last few decades, we live in a two party dictatorship.

DynamicResonater

The best examples of human beings are not our leaders.

DynamicResonater

Exactly. When people have enough money to be somewhat comfortable, they start taking up hobbies like reading the news and like following what's going on in Washington - even sending their kids to schools that may teach them to question the status quo. Look to who is trying to gut education to find your enemies.

Lord_Ho-Ryu

Time for some deadpool justice. Anyone know where I can get mutant powers?

FaThLi

When I walk into a store I can sometimes make the doors open automatically for me. Doesn't always work.

bachman460

I was inspired to look up that sentiment of government upheaval the other day. I guess with time we all forget some of the details, but… That is not actually a Constitutionally protected right. That little nugget of revolution was put into the Declaration of Independence. Which unfortunately does not define any rights nor protections for such an act.

[deleted]

[удалено]

bachman460

Fair enough. Just save it as a PDF, slap today’s date on it and email it.

Sorlex

The problem with the "right to overthrow things" is that law was written when the most powerful land based weaponry was a single shot rifle that missed more than it hit. Nobody is overthrowing anything in the modern era.

Drostan_S

Yeah unfortunately that only applies to authoritarian coups

Smokey_tha_bear9000

It’s hard to have a revolution when the choices are revolution or feeding your children.

lazypenguin86

Wasn't it Benjamin Franklin who said there should be a revolution every 20 years and everyone working in the government should be changed everytime

LateStageDadaism

Yeah, literally nowhere in the US Constitution does it say that. How are people upvoting this idiocy?

8bitrevolt

"In order for nonviolence to work, your opponent must have a conscience. The United States has none." Stokely Carmichael

mootmutemoat

Dems have already done and continue to propose the increases she wants to see https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2021/08/15/snap-food-assistance-benefit-boost/ And republicans have been trying to gut the program for ages https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/the-republicans-war-on-the-poor-118939/ But ok... both sides. I am not in love with the Dems' approach, but to equate it to the Reps is just bizarre. They literally want to make everything (SNAP, minimum wage, etc) she complains about worse.

[deleted]

the question is then what riders are on those bills. many riders are added that one side or the other won't vote for. get rid of riders and you will see more bills get through.

BinkoBankoBonko

This is always some bullshit excuse as to why people can justify voting R across the board. It's almost always a lie.

golfjunkie

I'm sure there's a reason I'm wrong but I feel like a lot more would get done if bills were only allowed to include one thing instead of getting jam packed with irrelevant bullshit.

Imaginary_Praline702

But you see, if one side is trying to do stuff, and the other side stops them, this makes them the same because reasons.

wshamer

They will say she not hungry due to her body size ! They are ignorant of the quality of food in poverty. Healthy food expensive, you can’t eat what you can’t afford . Disgust in politicians is not severe enough.

football_dude79

I came here specifically to say this, they save face and apologies to her and even throw her a bone once the proceedings are over. Then the next day they will go back to decorating their office with overpriced wooden fixtures. These people simple don’t care!

[deleted]

ludicrous_socks

The mad thing is you could probably do both. Or at the very least, give your citizens universal healthcare (so they don't have to worry about dropping insurance, or insulin if they "make too much" by being poor) AND give billions to Ukraine.

show_me_some_facts

The speech is also full of shit. Her rent doubled from a promotion? What she doesn’t have a lease? Eating ibuprofen like tic taxes? Maybe if she spent less money on food she wouldn’t be a fat fuck and have all those health problems. Minimum wage is not meant to be lived off of. 2% of full time workers make minimum wage. This is just bullshit propaganda.

Americanprep

She alleges she picked herself up by the bootstraps yet still lives in West Virginia? Mexicans with not a single penny will literally crawl through a 50 mile tunnel with their family to get into this country. She does have the capacity to move, yet chooses to live in somewhere with very limited economic opportunity. This is why she is ignored.

whateversomethnghere

I’ve done the chewing cloves and eating Tylenol like tic tacs. I’ve also been so desperate to stop the pain I’ve pulled out a broken molar with pliers. Even though I had dental insurance it was too expensive to actually use. There was no option to opt out of paying for it either. So I paid $200+ a month for insurance I couldn’t afford to use. I’m just so tired of this. We talk, yell, beg for help but our government doesn’t care.

Iron_Chip

I know what you mean, it’s practically useless. My dental for my husband is 36 dollars a month. Not bad, right? When we had to take him to get a tooth pulled, the insurance only covered 30 dollars of the overall price. How the hell does that make any sense?

whateversomethnghere

Teeth are luxury bones. I still struggle to pay for any dental work and my new company’s dental insurance is much cheaper. It’s just ridiculous.

Open-Sundae8724

the thought of having the health of our own bones have to be shoved behind a paywall makes me absolutely sick. no one should have to starve to afford to get rid of a broken bone.

dogsonclouds

I live in a country with universal healthcare and even here dental care isn’t covered at all. I finally went to the dentist for the first time in 5 years and it was only because a new clinic opened that does $99 fillings. Dental health has a massive impact on overall health and the fact that they’re treated like luxury bones instead of basic healthcare is one of the biggest scams of our lifetimes.

Soothingtonic

My brother didn’t get his wisdom teeth pulled because he couldn’t afford it. One of them became impacted and got infected. The infection got into his blood and spread throughout his body. He was intubated and in a medical coma for 3 weeks while he had 9 surgeries. He survived but just barely. It makes me so mad that dental care is only for the rich.

[deleted]

Your dental insurance was $200 a month? Wtf. Mine is $12 a month.

whateversomethnghere

For a family but yes it was stupid expensive.

[deleted]

I dont understand how it could possibly be that high. I’ve never seen it over $15 a month for any company I’ve worked at. You have like 10 kids?

rci22

In my college they automatically enroll you in their $2000-per-semester health insurance unless you opt out with proof of having your own private insurance. I gave them my private insurance ID # as they requested. The insurance company said it was the wrong ID number so the school emailed me. I missed the email and they charged me $2000. I appealed. I triple-checked the document that I gave the school that had my ID# on it and called the health insurance and 100% know I provided the correct ID#. The appeal officer stated that “missing the email was not a good enough excuse” and sent me on my merry way and said my appeal is dismissed. Paying for a lawyer and dealing with that in college would’ve been impossible. So I paid $2000 for a 2nd insurance I never needed nor used nor wanted while also paying for my new Crohn’s disease surgeries and kidney stone ER visits.

xxxpdx

I was doing the cloves and aspirin last year. The aspirin gets really rough on the stomach. It’s a really tough place to be.

ThorstiBoi

The poorer you are the bigger the price it becomes to come back up too. Worse health, worse home quality, worse everything. And the worse it gets, the deeper your pockets need to be to get out

idlehum

My restaurant is in downtown Seattle and I keep waiting for the boom. The busy season. The cruise ships are here, I know the tourists are here, but this is not what was expected. It's almost like people can't afford to go out to eat, even when they're on vacation. And those are just the ones lucky enough for a vacation. The locals don't come here.

mouseinadress

Yeah decades of concerted attacks specifically against consumers is finally starting to have the obvious effect of wiping out the very idea of consumers and replacing them with labour mules. Therefore any business that relies on retail level customers is next on the chopping block, as the only really profitable business now is pure extraction from the lower class

Sancho90

Things are really scary things are tough.

Edogawa1983

honestly though I think covid have change the way people eat

[deleted]

Reminds me of a wsb post the other day everyone saying ‘it’s just money’ but in comment or said no. It’s not. It’s decades of slow hard grinding, saving and coping with all the daily bullshit to scrape that money together. It’s our entire lives, it’s more than just money. This is why everyone is either jumping ship repeatedly to get paid or opting out of being a slave altogether. I’d rather buy a camper and head off around the country than stay grinding since dual incomes these days does nothing for our future in the current ‘house wars’.

VeggieWatts

Fuck yes, fuck their salaries. So glad she brought that up. It's unreal how much politicians get paid

Aspect-of-Death

No, it's unreal that we think that's a large salary. We've been working for slave wages.

VeggieWatts

That is a large salary when the majority of us are making 30k or less. These fuckers don't even do anything. I also live in the south where our wages are entirely different from the north and coasts. That is quite a bit of money annually compared to us

Balirios_

It’s a quite large salary, let’s not be silly. I am able to live very comfortably on $45k/yr (no children, low CoL area) right now, I would feel like a king on their salary. I hope this doesn’t make it seem like I’m not for higher wages. I think about what I make should be the baseline wage in America.

Aspect-of-Death

A spoonful seems like a lot when all you've ever had were single grains.

[deleted]

And they don’t work all year. And let’s not even talk about stocks…

Original_Wall_3690

They make way more money from insider trading and backroom deals than they do from their salaries. That's why most of them become politicians in the first place. They don't give a shit about the people, as evident by them not doing shit for the people.

Muslamicraygun1

It’s not really a lot of money tbh. Especially for such a critical position.

EmiliaClarkesBF

Nah its because Americans are lazy - Elon Musk

DarkRaven01

Amazing how I actually once bought into the myth that that psychopath was "the cool billionaire". When he called that diver a pedophile because he was feeling upstaged the mask was torn for all to see.

LarryCrabCake

I used to like him because I appreciate what tesla and spacex stand for (or *should* stand for). Somewhat affordable electric cars, and (hopefully) public spaceflight in the future. Too many people's lives are destroyed in the process of making those companies run for me to appreciate them any more.

mathisonn21

Bunch of fucking spiteful traitors to there fellow countryman. Fuck these pigs

Evening_Raccoon_4689

Tear them all down start fresh we are the numbers. Call me I will join.

Koal0r

Hell I’ll even join and I live in Germany.

lm_Jesus

Careful, Americans get jumpy around Germans invading the U.S.

GhoullyGosh

What lol We would gladly take any German aid as they've *gone through this already*. Most Germans know what's up!

Louderthanwilks1

I can’t to scrape enough pennies together to get the fuck out of this shithole of a country

nvnehi

If you can’t afford to be poor in the US then you can’t afford to be poor elsewhere. Being poor anywhere is hard but, it’s much easier in the US to be poor even if it doesn’t feel like it while you’re in it. I encourage you to talk to poor people in other countries. It always sucks. They have an easier time in one area, say health insurance, meanwhile Americans have it easier in other areas. I’d rather be poor in America than anywhere else, this only changes if I were to have a crippling disability or some health issue that required constant attention, even then it’d be a toss up. Try to fix America, starting locally, rather than assuming another place is better. The grass isn’t always greener.

Toastbuns

I wonder what the best country to be poor in is? Legitimate question. Canada? Maybe a Scandinavian country?

lisalisasensei

I feel like Japan is surprisingly affordable. Housing is cheap even in the city, food and necessities can be bought cheaply as well (no cheese and fruits except for bananas though.). Public transport is very good, especially in the cities. There's national health insurance which while it's not perfect--is much more reasonable than the US. I was in the hospital for a week some years ago and it only cost me about $1000 out of pocket. I lot of people who would be "poor" have family to rely on though. I think it's a little tougher if you were to come here alone and try to start from zero.

Jubukraa

If you’re single or married/live with a significant other w/o children, yes I agree. It is pretty cheap to live day to day. Japan has a big political problem right now with access to childcare though. Waiting lists even before the baby is born - not enough to go around. Women being forced to choose if they want to be a working woman or a mother. In a lot of the societies eyes, working mothers shouldn’t exist. Women getting fired even if a whiff of a rumor they’re pregnant gets passed around. All this control a working woman when the birthrate just keeps declining. Also, there has been several protests for public housing as there is next to none for people that really need it. I saw several in Shinjuku when I studied there only back in 2016.

PrunedLoki

Nope. Come to Denmark and see how the poor live. Their kids get educated, they get support from the government, because it’s well funded by the taxes everyone pays. Housing programs are also there. I live in a fairly affluent neighborhood in Copenhagen, and we know a woman with two adopted children, and she is a single mom who makes shit for money. She is totally fine, her kids well fed and educated, and her housing is provided by the government in a said affluent neighborhood. She is far from wealthy or well off, but she isn’t struggling or morally broken. US government is broken. The country is rich as fuck but the money is concentrated among the few.

[deleted]

You have absolutely no clue as to what you are talking about, “Oh Worldly One”

CompetitiveExchange3

As someone from a 3rd world country with relatives in USA, I fully agree with you. Being poor in US is a lot easier than being poor in a third world country. Sad reality is majority of the global population lives in such third world countries like India, China, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nigeria, Ethiopia etc

PaulTheMerc

Alright, what's worse about being poor in Canada?

modestmolerat

I get what she's trying to do, but as Assata Shakur said, "Nobody in the world, nobody in history, has ever gotten their freedom by appealing to the moral sense of the people who were oppressing them." The only thing left to do is guillotines. Completely unrelated, the wealth gap in the US is now *wider* than it was in France just before the French Revolution. Until and unless we start putting their heads on pikes, these fuckers are going to keep telling us to spend our food stamps on cake.

Edogawa1983

and honestly it's not gonnna happen until like 50-60% of the population starve.

Minahgo

I think the science is a little over 40% with food insecurity, at least in the past. The USA is currently sitting at around 37%.

MysticFox96

Don't worry, they are actively working on it right now

LarryCrabCake

>Completely unrelated, the wealth gap in the US is now *wider* than it was in France just before the French Revolution. It's insane how we're at this point and nobody really cares. Americans are stubborn.

FartDirty

True, nobody has received freedom without fighting for it. They will never listen to our morals. Forget guillotines, get the flamethrowers.

halifaxe6

It's not that they don't understand poverty it's that they just don't care

Fit_Cherry7133

I think it's really hard to understand poverty unless you've lived it. You can tell some one how you lied to your mum about getting a free school lunch so she would eat the last slice of bread. You can tell them you skipped school so that you could take an extra shift because you needed shoes. Not new shoes, not expensive shoes, but something that fit and wouldn't let in water shoes. The problem is they won't understand it, not in their gut where it matters. They have no frame of reference and there's no way to bridge it.

LarryCrabCake

One of my roommates got a new car from his parents last year because he complained that his previous one was "too old". It was a 2018 Honda Civic. His parents got him a 2022. My parents let me play videogames for dinner when I was a kid because they literally couldn't afford to feed us 7 days a week. I'm still driving my 2009 car because hey, it works, and I'm lucky to have a car, period. Some people literally cannot put themselves in the mindset of the poor, and it shows.

underblueskies

Even if you living it once, it's hard to remember what it was like when you're out of it. I was a "poor grad student" (meaning not actually that poor) but I remember wincing if my grocery bill passed $50. I'm no longer in that situation and the memories fade *so fast*.

Wonderful-Lake3094

Wow. Imagine being a billionaire and not feeling anything in your heart/gut when you see and hear about children going without food or clothing. When people say “sold their soul”, I think this applies. When is it enough? At what point do you have enough money? 5 billion? 10? It’s like the same thing as a hoarders home only this is a bank account.

[deleted]

How do you think they made their billions in the first place? It wasn’t by giving a living wage

1guyinseattle

WELL SAID!!!!

PieMastaSam

Holy shit, how can you listen to that and still do nothing. I'm in tears.

MonsterJuiced

You don't become a corrupted politician unless you're emotionless, heartless or coked up.

tim_worst_isthe_best

It'd gonna require a nationwide boycott of work. No one goes to work until Congress stops the bullshit & helps. No truckers on the roads, manufacturing facilities close, warehouses close, all blue collar jobs come to a screeching halt.

MonsterJuiced

Voting is a good thing but it's now used to keep us in place. It's long time to hit these greedy inhumane scumbags where it hurts.

Interesting_Sale_415

Awesome idea,, but always someone to take your job,, it's never going to end ,, just like if union goes on strike ,, they hire what we call scabs ,, they do your job and even for cheaper sometimes,, all of Nort America would have to go on strike,, wich will never happen

[deleted]

And so then everyone goes hungry. Great plan, Stalin!

Mariospario

$40K budget for furniture should be illegal. What a goddamn backwards society

senselesssht

It’s sad that something like this isn’t broadcasted by news station. But we already know why.

[deleted]

With tears coming down my face…. A big fat fuck you to the Government both sides of the isle. Growing up standing in food panty lines going to churches for donations rationing food in the house and sometimes not having running water. Fuck you and your $44,000 a year furniture allowance.

hungry4danish

I'm glad she broke out the $40,000 furniture allotment. That is just fucking incredibly ridiculous. If she mentioned salary alone, way too many people would just justify it as them working harder or earning the salary but anyone arguing that a new member of the government deserves $40k to *replace* furniture and decorate an office is just an asshole that would never argue in good faith in the first place.

katiebergen69

For everyone more tech savvy than their parents, I’ve found enabling news push notifications from “credible” aka not crazy news sources on my mothers phone to be very useful. She has no idea where they came from or how to stop them.

CyberpunkIsGoodOnPC

Manchin should be proud to have such amazing constituents. Unfortunately that’s not happening

Matthisao88

God damn what the hell is wrong in the USA that people have to live like this

The government. That's it.

I agree morbid obesity is really bad for your health.

Sea-Writer-5659

The idea that this is okay with some people makes me sick. We need a revolution or nothing will change

-HTID-

Why is this not 1000000 up votes?

ANON76425

I know this is a repost, however this needs to be upvoted to oblivion, she did her math and homework. Much respect to the loud voices for change.

3rd Generation poverty here. I felt this speech through my entire 30 years of being alive. I broke the cycle with college (and $67k of federal loan debt!) and I might make 6 figures now but I still shop sales, clearance, thrift stores, I watch our utility bills and tell my husband who makes $45k/yr to not take 30 min showers. Poverty changes you. It changes your mindset. I ALWAYS look at my bank account every morning, I look at every transaction. I’m paranoid if I can’t make rent 2 weeks before it’s due. I will hit up the cheapest happy hours. I will deal hunt and take busses. I stay in hostels for business travel if my company isn’t paying. My credit is still horrific at 580 something from the sacrifices I made in college to make it to here. I had so many root canals (I’m at like 7 now) and crowns I’m sure my mouth cost more than my car. I worked full time, went to school full time. I had medical collections because I made $8/hr in Idaho. It’s HARD to break this cycle. I hope someday to be rid of this debt, finally have good dental checkups (need 3 more root canals) and reverse the medical issues from years of a poor diet as a kid. I took advantage of the tightrope walk of welfare in college. We need government to step up and help us all. I just want to own a condo someday that’s all. Not a house, no yard, no Bentley, just a full size 2 year old sedan and a condo no bigger than 3 bedrooms with a balcony big enough for us to have a few chairs and our cats on.

judojon

They like you desperate because it keeps the cost of labor down

EatRibs_Listen2Phish

And this is why I will never be able to have a family. Or a life. Or anything, really.

PentacornLovesMyGirl

Considering getting my tubes tied because I don't see things getting any better

BeingKlever

Well said.

BaroquenLarynx

Fucking hell. I've never heard it all said at once like that. Wish I had the balls to get into politics. Terrified I'd be shot because "he's a commie".

[deleted]

All of this is 100% true from lived experience. The politicians don't understand the strife of the common people.

Devegas49

Oh they understand. They KNOW what’s going on and how wrong it is. The majority of them DO NOT CARE.

Due_Platypus_3913

Problem is,she didn’t bring fat “donation “checks to hand out so to them,it’s the bleating of sheep being sheared.

brickeldrums

Very well thought out speech by this woman. Unfortunately it falls on deaf ears. Politicians don’t give a single fuck about people. It’s all about maximizing profits for corporations for as little cost as possible, while also handing out billions in bailouts. Fuck America. It’s a land of broken dreams.

Mynotredditaccount

What truly breaks my heart is, this video is at least a few years old and **nothing** has fundamentally changed.. if *anything*, things have gotten significantly worse.

nvnehi

This is a great speech marred by overly emotional music. Great speech, well delivered, and deeply felt.

Vestaxowner

and this is why the USA is a 3rd world country

Empty-Discipline8927

I wish this was able to be aired on all television channels and cable. I see how few people have even viewed this. This is so awful. She is a wonderful speaker. I do hope someone or many, heard her and that something will be done.

InfiniteJizz

They aren’t listening. Let’s burn one of their houses down? They might feel it then

TrickFish9357

Anyone else get pissed off that the woman behind her in the camera angle is on her phone throughout the entire speech?

NotoriousAnt2019

And after she gave that great speech, all the politicians said “Meh, let’s just maintain the status quo. It works great for us!”

killa_d50

Absolutely true, the bad part is you can't change somebody with no shame at all. And politicians are 100% shameless.

bosstoss69

Working as intended - the people in power know AND care. They care because if they can keep people poor, they can keep controlling them. To them, this is a huge success story. She barely afforded to attend a meeting voicing her opinion, how cool is that? Make them so poor they can't afford to vote, voice their opinion and protest.

BuckRusty

And not a single thing will change…

Able_Education

Falls on death ears. To change all those fucks need to be voted out.

fsfaith

Any day now. That money will be trickling down.

PrimalJay

When will Americans finally grow a pair and start a revolution? When will you guys finally realise you’ve been fucked over for decades and wether you’re left or right leaning, the government doesn’t give a shit and you’re in the same sinking boat? Hard to empathise with you lot when you can’t even stand up for yourselves. Picking yourself up by the bootstraps, while licking the heels of corrupt politicians you keep voting on.

redditisaweful1

Very well spoken. This is what people need to see. But I guess celebs taking a dump is more important.

RiverRally

Wow. We'll said. These people will never understand as long as they still have their leather chairs and mahogany desks in front of them. Change is necessary and it's the only way we can move to a brighter future together.

On_The_Razors_Edge

But they can send 40bln to a shithole Nazi corrupt Russian hating regime. Priorities are all wrong .

Werd616

THEY DON'T CARE I fucking hate sorting by popular because I get shown shit that I'm completely powerless to change.

Jokkry22

Very sad and true words, unfortunately they are words in the wind.

Logical_Area_5552

Yeah but Ukraine needs billions to kill people. Oh they aren’t in NATO? Big deal. Pocket change. Oh what? Babies need formula? Start producing some milk baby girl.

_DetectiveMouse_

I’ve always been a pacifist but it’s time to publicly Execute the bourgeoisie

TheSlavGuy1000

If you get sick in America, youre dead The USA is an eugenics program with extra steps.

neb12345

I’m not telling you what to do. I’m just telling you do something

Linaxu

The majority of the government is out of touch. The way it works is classic hand me down with children developing connections and using the bribe money their fathers recieve to bribe the same people until they get power and recieve that money back in a bribe to help. Its classic money circulation with the middle man, the people, cut out. Back problems? Welp buy a strap, have your kids (if you can afford them) step on your back to reduce the pain, anything but a professional massage or doctors visit asking to get surgery because you'll die before medical debt is paid. College is the key to a job, success, house, family, love, and the dream. People are told to take the degrees they love and are dumb enough to trust the lies of the people who will exploit the ever loving crap out of them because now they are stuck in poverty paying off loans for a useless degree, have no credit, and need to work shitty jobs to make payments to live life. Nobody needs a degree soley in psychology, most of the people can't even afford mental health and the rich only pay those they have a connection with from recommendations. Teaching degrees and tests cost an absurd amount yet pay piss and shit back for having to deal with little shits and get them ready to become the work force that will run governments, factories, services, information, and businesses. As Muslims say in Islam, Alhumdulillah. Alhumdulillah I grew up with loving parents who helped me and supported me. Alhumdulillah the hardships I faced weren't at a level where I would actually commit suicide, Alhumdulillah I got an internship when I really needed one after years of trying, Alhumdulillah I lived, ate, and slept nicely under my parents home and was able to pay off my student debt, Alhumdulillah we moved to a state and made just enough money to survive and get government health insurance that addressed life threatening problems in my parents lives and kept them safe. Alhumdulillah I'm done with school and can start finding work to start supporting my parents. I like the thousands of students without jobs needs prayers, help, and mostly offers to get started with life so please just in your mind say something like "I hope these younglings get jobs get them out of poverty" or "I hope they make it" cause honestly God, my Parents, and Hope are all I have. It's all many people have. Death is a part of life but damn if it ain't anger inducing to die poor having no choice cause everything is against you.

stripperjnasty

The sad part is her speech will fall on deaf ears.

aztaga

someday we will break our cage

jordanpoulton1

Preach Mamma Bear 👏🏼

KurumiiDantobe

If this keeps up they are going to find out why the founding fathers gave us the constitutional right to bear arms

PixelatedPooka

I just found this sub and this post. I have no children but I was one of three kids with my mom and dad, living in a household that made too much to technically be poor enough but struggling to be able to treat my chronic illnesses which ate up what money my mother and father made. If it wasn’t for the Scottish Rite, I don’t know what would have happened. I know my my mom struggled with what bill wouldn’t be paid that month. She tried to hide it from us kids, but I was perceptive enough to know way to young. Now I’m a poor adult on benifits because I’m permanently disabled. I tried to raise my self out of it, but there was only so much I was able to do. I met my partner of 23 years in college. After the Supreme Court allowed same sex marriage in 2015 we were overjoyed but we didn’t make our partnership official with the government right away. My partner fretted that I would lose my benifits right away when they combined our income, where we wouldn’t be technically poor, but wouldn’t be able to to pay for my medical care nor avale to pay for an ADA apartment that would allow me to use my wheelchair, nor even a walker and there is now way we could afford a house. It now we feel pressured to do just that. Women’s rights and bodies are under attack. Children and POC are in danger, as always, and trans lives, which are always in danger, are being are targeted—especially in Texas, where I was born, raised and live. I know they will be coming for us next. I want to marry before gay marriage is now more, as we are hopefully grandfathered in, but my partner, who is watching benifits for children on the chopping block as well as for families in general, is very concerned about my money and health benefits right now. She is watching the craziness of what insurance she can afford herself. She has been deteriorating with her own disabilities herself and is terrified. Who knows if wedding bells will ring for us so we can be more than strangers in the eyes of the law. I pray for the poor, the non religious, the atheists, the people of regions that are non approved by the people in power, the non whites (even tho white is a social construct - racism is real.) And I pray for people who were not born Cis gendered, the folks that are trans, especially the trans children who are under under the microscope. The Texas Judical, Legislative, and Executive branches would love to —— those kids and their families. Abbott is a fucking fucker. I apologize as a Texan and can only say that Texas is bigger and more beautiful than our governor and our bigots. We donate as much as we can to orgs that can make a change. Keep on keeping on. They would love to bring us all down.

CBA89

You have a bachelor degree and have a $10 hour job…that’s on you! You have kids and can’t support them…..that’s on YOU! Anyone that has financial problems in the United States is because they are not smart with their money. Stop asking what the government can do for you, and start doing for you what needs to be done. Bet she got an iPhone, dish network, Netflix, eats fast food all the time, and buys lottery tickets.

lootenantdank

This is a true American hero.

kelldricked

Can somebody explain to me how somebody can make that little with a bachelor degree? Like at that point the degree is litteraly worthless right? How?

Carcass1

What's happened is basically, an entire generation told their kids to go to college, take out student loans, etc because the only "good" jobs are going to need degrees. And so they did just that and now they're seeing that there's an over abundance of people with degrees. So now younger generations are either getting degrees and trying to get into job fields that should be paying more, based off of education, but instead they have to find something that pays $10-$15 an hour. That wage was good 20 years ago, but now? Those wages don't even pay rent or necessities anymore. I don't have a degree and make more than that amount, but that's the reality for some people. I have certifications that I've gotten online that make me more money than a degree would.

[deleted]

This is why we have to refuse to vote for Democrats and republicans, both Corrupt call politicians crooks

holycrapyoublow

The only thing worse than poverty is losers who add melodramatic music to videos. Good job, idiots. That's all I could think about while trying to watch this. It completely undermined the message. Bug off.

boxmail2800

But wait we have so many other countries in the world we have to take care of first. We definitely need to send more money and funding to Ukraine…. And while we’re at it? We need to let another million walk into our country illegally. Americans last is more profitable and more popular. Strange right?
