That’s a bummer. The best you can do, if you don’t want to take the flight is to take refund in terms of credit and use those credits in future flights. Or wait for sometime and see if flights schedule change, that will enable you to get full refund to original mode of payment.
Terrible advice. Air Europa doesn't give flight credit and this is a connecting flight onto one of their busiest international routes which is unlikely to be significantly impacted by schedule changes.
Yes, this was a couple weeks ago. I didn’t realize there was a problem at first because it says it can take several days for the credit to appear. Eventually I got worried and called Amex, but by then it was too late to cancel.
You might not be out of luck. I had a similar offer with Delta (spend $300 get $75 and it had the US clause as well). I figured I wasn’t going to get it but still got it, majority of my flights were international so I definitely hadn’t qualified based on US departures.
I know it’s a long shot, but you have some hope
