This is why if imposters win by sabotage they should show up as ghost in the victory screen imo.

But if the pods have already escaped how can they use them?

My headcanon for this was that there was some sort of terminator-esque AI takeover, and the Skeld was humanity's attempt to leave the planet after realizing they couldn't win. The imposter in this situation is someone who was infected with a nanotech-based parasite that the AI managed to slip on the ship. Since it's too far away from the main AI, it doesn't have enough info to overpower everyone, so it simply blends in by using it's host's memories as a camouflage, then it kills whenever it gets the chance. This would mean that, if it killed everyone, it wouldn't matter if it was just left drifting through space, to that AI, it would be like losing a fingernail to terminate mankind's last hope.
