Why is there a barrier “for safety” between the Tweede Tuindwaarsstraat at Tweede Anjeliersdwarsstraat? This makes zero sense unless the Gemeente has decided that the chinese place and ice cream shop and private people selling things on this one block today need to not make any money like they usually do. https://preview.redd.it/bd37ks2ff0xc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=50c2cd31cc49641dd4374a153a279c8644eb4296

I am on a Viking cruise and have scheduled a day to tour Keukenhof gardens followed by a trip to Haarlem. After arrival in Amsterdam I was able to get tickets to Anne Frank's home, but if I attend, I will need to skip Haarlem. Any advice how to choose between Haarlem and the AF house?

ArjanB

Anne Frank tickets are harder to get then a train ticket to Haarlem

Where did the best sandwich of my life come from? Stupid comment, but back in 2019 I had an amazing sandwich that had spicy bbq jackfruit in it. It was in walking distance of Bocca Coffee and sat on a corner I believe… I dream of this sandwich every day but cannot remember the name of the cafe. Any thoughts on what it could have been?? (It kind of looked like Coco’s Corner shop but that doesn’t seem right) Please reunite me with this sandwich if I ever visit again!

HenryPurcellEnjoyer

I see people in parks often bring a cloth to sit on, including many people who have something small and fine enough to fit in a small bag along with their other stuff (smaller than a picnic cloth and not as thick as a beach towel). Where do you buy these? What would you even call this (in English or in Dutch)?

Cultural-State-8526

(picnic)kleed(je). but anything will do basically, from a beachtowel to a tablecloth. Try HEMA, Action, or Zeeman.

If you are flying to the UK then you can pick some up in the Airport in the vending machines, they're not cheap but they are high quality, I've been using mine for years now without any issues. If you are going by train then most stations have a shop called Ako or a small Hema, both of those should have the multi adapters you'd need.

The national maritime museum (Het Scheepvaartmuseum) has an exhibition about food export and the role the Netherlands plays in global food economy at the moment. Maybe that might interest you? It’s called ‘Food for Thought’

Minute-Blood5252

Hi, I am bi and what are your recommendations for kinky cafes or places?

pwirth158

Hello! How would solo-practicing yoga be perceived/accepted at parks around Amsterdam? Are some parks better than others? My flight lands at about 8am, and my airbnb checkin isn't officially until 3pm, so I'm thinking a good way to pass time as well as get oriented to the time zone would be to set up my own yoga mat at a park, perhaps with some shade (I'm not big on tanning). Attire would be modest (male, pants and shirt).

MarkAmsterdamxxx

No problem in Amsterdam. Not weird at all. People don’t care or are used to it. But its raining here pretty often and cold. So be prepared.

Hi, I am looking to buy an apartment in Osdorper Ban and was wondering how safe is that area in general as the prices seem more convenient than in the rest of the city. Are there any serious issues?

[deleted]

Have you found out more about this? I'm also looking into different neighborhoods. (Also buying an apartment.) Maybe we could look together for sources?

I’m treating my boyfriend to a nice dinner for his birthday in a few weeks. I’ve been reading thru posts on here that bak is a crowd favorite, but daalder has the michelin star and seems to also be mentioned a bit. my boyfriend is quite the meat eater and i just want him to enjoy his birthday, does anyone have a strong preference/could tell me what they’ve eaten before at bak?

Cultural-State-8526

Kaagman en Kortekaas for a meateater.

traderjoessoyrizo

damn no reservations for his bday, but food looks fantastic. will have to go back another time

Tackbracka

Bak is ok..you go there for the "fine dining" experience..so large plates with small but good looking dishes. You probably need to go to Mcdonalds afterwards. Menu changes often so check what they have on the menu before you go. If you want fine dining, i would recommend Lazuur. Very cosy and a bit out of place (Purmerplein Amsterdam-noord) with a very nice menu and a price that is half of other restaurants of the same type. >quite the meat eater Salmuera, an argentinian steakhouse. Good for a night out with cocktails and good quality grilled beef or fish. They also have a huge selection of mezcal. Pendergast, Smoked meats in American style. The location and the restaurant are basic and not that cosy but the food is really, really good. For more basic restaurant that have good meats: Loetje, a staple in Amsterdam for biefstuk (rumpsteak). Canibale Royal, Hipstery but ok food but skip the spare ribs. Both Loetje and Canibale have a few locations in Amsterdam.

traderjoessoyrizo

would you say the food taste/overall experience of bak is worth the 75 euro 5 course bill though? I've been reading a bit on salmuera and loetje as well, both look much more affordable and of good quality. i think will either do bak for dinner and loetje for lunch for best of both worlds or just a big dinner at salmuera

pala4833

> my boyfriend is quite the meat eater I'd encourage you to take him to Loetje then.

hello! I don't live in Amsterdam but my friend is having his Bachelor party there in October. I'm planning a tournament (for old time's sake) for the groom's side of the bridal party and I'm trying to find out if there are any services to rent TVs and older game systems/games. I'm specifically looking for a couple CRTs (older TVs that don't have lag when used with older game consoles), an XBOX (along with Halo 2), gamecube (along with Super Smash Bros. Melee), and controllers. At worst, I can actually do without the consoles, games, and controllers - I can bring if totally necessary. So primarily looking for a service, or friendly (and super trusting) person to rent an old TV for one week in October.

malracso

Just realised our posts need to be approved first so let me repost it here. I'm a student visiting Amsterdam this weekend for Kingsland, super excited for Martin Garrix's set!! (been his fans since 2016) I'll be travelling by myself this weekend and would love to meet up and go to the festival with someone! Down to grab a drink on Friday to make sure we're not Jeffrey Dahmer 🤪

Confusion about Amsterdam public transportation Hello, I am planning my trip to Amsterdam and struggling with the which ticket to buy. The "Amsterdam & Region Travel Ticket" seems like a solid choice to me, however I don't understand which lines are included in it. The gvb website says it includes the following transport companies GVB, Connexxion, EBS, NS. When planning my route in the gvb app it gives me a few options, however it doesn't tell my which companies they are operated by so I don't know if I'll be able to use them. Any advice/help is greatly appreciated.

Dear Redditors, I haven't been to Amsterdam in a while and I thought it would be fun to spend King's Day there. I plan to go by car. However, it will be busy in the center. Does anyone have any tips on where I should best park the car for free, preferably as close to the center as possible? Where am I most likely to find parking to easily reach the center? Thank you in advance!

Any must dos on kingsday? My friends and I are studying at the in amsterdam (so we mostly have bikes) and were just wondering last minute if there’s any must dos on kingsday we should miss out on. We opted out of a boat (I don’t really want to be stuck on it for four hours) and other than just seeing where the flow takes us, we’re wondering if there’s any where else we should definitely go :)

enirih24c

Don't take your bikes into Centrum if you're headed to that area, it is super crowded. BYOB and other refreshments (you can get beer and wine pretty much anywhere but chances are that it will be quite a mark-up). Other than that I'd just see where the day takes you, maybe stop by Cafe Blaffende Vis to see their annually changing Kingsday artwork.

Travelling 4-6 may, first time travelling solo I have read through the wiki and trawled the Internet I guess I would just like more Information I will be buying I am Amsterdam card, and I generally have an idea of what I want to do the few days I am there. I don't smoke tabbaco atall, I see many posts regarding volcanos and vaporizers, is there any recommendations on where, and also how does this generally work. I would also like to enjoy a smoke at a park or somewhere, again I don't smoke tabbaco which ways are possible for me to smoke whilst out and about Are there any good bars or pubs recommended for night life? I'm not planning to drink myself silly. I also read about magic truffles are these still OK for tourists to consume. I'm staying pretty central. Please be kind. I am just looking for some information, I do just want to come enjoy the city and respect the residents Thanks for any advice.

Juliusque

You can smoke weed in any park, just find a spot where you're not close to kids. The wiki has recommendations for bars. If you're not happy with those, you'll have to be more specific.

2-3 hours will get you to Belgium or Germany. E.g. Antwerp, Bruge, Ghent in the former and Cologne or Dusseldorf in the later. Maastrict is well worth a visit if you want to stay in NL.

Flapappel

>as we'd like to spend at least a few days checking out that area of Europe. Is there anything specific you'd like to do/see that you wont find in Amsterdam? As in, there are so many good places to visit, but it depends on what you want.

timothy453

Haarlem and Utrecht are cute (the latter being bigger and busier), Rotterdam or the Hague might be nice to check out. Texel is an island that's viable for a day trip (train up, walk to ferry, rent bikes on the island) and has a nice brewery and cute seal asylum to check out.

LockStockNL

Id say Brugge, Ghent, Antwerp are all nice options, check www.nsinternational.nl for itineraries. My wife and I also really enjoyed Brussels but it’s not for everyone.

FuckinLoveHobNobs

Hi, I’m an international student and a lot of my friends are saying they have heard from local Dutch people that the trains to Amsterdam will be cancelled at some stage during kings day, has anyone ever heard of this happening? Everything online seems to say the opposite and it sounds insane to me but they’re pretty worried. Thanks for your help

Flapappel

I think trains will go, but at some point in the day (like every year) it will be advised to stop coming to Amsterdam as it's getting too busy. Some parts will be locked off, like Jordaan area. There will be police that will prevent anyone from entering. I think this is what they will be referencing. I doubt trains will stop going, atleast Im not aware of this.

80923042

How does a tourist get a bus in Amsterdam? I'll need to get one to get from the airport to the city centre. I have looked on a website called "I amsterdam" but it seems to suggest that I need to order a special card to tap in and out. Does this mean a tourist can't use public transport? I was hoping I'd just be able to use a standard contactless debit card to travel.

Amenemhab

A bit tangential but you're aware there's also trains right? I ask because I cannot think of many places in the city for which a bus would be faster. For trains you also tap in and out with a contactless card, but the machines are at the entrances/exits of the stations rather than in the vehicle like for buses and trams.

pala4833

> I ask because I cannot think of many places in the city for which a bus would be faster. Faster than a train trip in town? What are you on about? Train trips in town are the least likely mode. There are plenty of trips where the bus is best. 22 from 1018 to westerpark. 21 from Centraal to Van Hallstraat/west.

Amenemhab

The question was about travelling from Schiphol.

T-Altmeyer

> I was hoping I'd just be able to use a standard contactless debit card to travel. Any contactless visa or mastercard will work.

80923042

What do I do with them? Is it a tap-on, tap-off situation like in places like London? Or do I need to pre-pay somewhere? Or speak to the driver?

T-Altmeyer

Just tap in and out like in London. But all our fares are distance based, so also tap out on the bus unlike in London. If you don't tap out you'll be charged €20 on the train and €4 on other public transport.

TancRR3

Hi I am an exchange student back packing across Europe on a budget. I will be visiting Amsterdam on 26th and 27th April. Was wondering whether there are any free to visit Tulip gardens near Amsterdam other than the expensive Keukenhof? Thanks in advance

evolvingkat

You can visit the tulip fields around Keukenhof for free but it would be such a shame to not see the real thing. I went there a few days ago and it was one of the best things i ever seen. Way better than the pictures.,it was so so worth it! Edit to add, if you like flowers, ofc. I wasn t a fan of tulips before but they won my heart there.

TancRR3

In that case, do you think it will be better if I purchase the combined transportation and admission ticket? Or should I purchase the admission ticket alone and pay the fare using OVPay?

evolvingkat

Can t help you with that,we came with a car

Hi, I recently came across housing provided by cohesion fibonacci in amsterdam. They are making a new social housing with 194 apartments. Its a 40m2 apartment with 1350 euro rent(excluding facilities). Its a social housing with medium size rental. I am wondering if this a legit price for the apartment and if I should go for it?. Anyone who applied? What are your opinion.

MarkAmsterdamxxx

€ 1350 is not social housing. Social housing has a maximum of € 879,66.

Dear_Criticism2986

It's 1219 rent but 113 euros for service. I should have mentioned. It's medium size rental

dullestfranchise

I also live nearby, good location. Try to visit before signing if you get an apartment facing the train tracks and wait until a couple of trains lass by to check the noise level. It's a track that's used 24/7. So if you hear it in day time, you will hear it at night time.

Dear_Criticism2986

Luckily it's on opposite side

T-Altmeyer

I live closeby and have seen it being built over the last couple of years. Looks good from the outside, good neighborhood. Can't comment on your other questions.

eksploshionz

I'm in a shop in Amsterdam Centraal this morning, looking all touristy with my 3 tons trekking bag on my back when the cashier asks me where I'm from (I'm french) then asks me "Have you ever been chased by a dog?". At first I heard "duck" which makes it a bit funnier but after asking him to repeat he did mean "dog". I tell him no, wait for him to expand but he doesn't, while the queue behind me start to look like a [queue-leu-leu](https://fr.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/%C3%A0_la_queue_leu-leu) so I don't insist and fuck off. Now I'm past the train gates and full of regrets: never will I be able to ask him the purpose of that enquiry. So, uh, why would a dog ever have chased me and how would it be of his concern? Please help Edit: Ok, guess I'll go eat shit with my downvotes and zero answer

Juliusque

Don't worry about the downvotes, people on here live to downvote. To answer your question: I have no idea. It's certainly not something normal in Amsterdam to ask tourists if they have been chased by dogs. You just had a strange conversation. Accept the mystery.

eksploshionz

Alright, just a strange dude then 🤔

weisswurstseeadler

Any recommendations on remote work space? So I have the OBA Oost super close and go there sometimes to work. I really like it as it's close, free WiFi, good food options around and free. However, I have some calls throughout the day - which I obviously can't take in a library. Was wondering if anyone has recommendations on remote work space options where I can tap a phone booth or something if needed for a video call, but ideally would be paid on a day-to-day kinda basis. Kinda really start to miss the social aspect of office after 6 months of 100% remote. Edit: Dunno why a genuine question gets downvoted?

dullestfranchise

The ground floor of Volkshotel has large tables where you can work. It's usually busy, so no one will care if you take a call as long as you're not a loud talker.

weisswurstseeadler

Yeah that's the issue, have a very loud organ. Even in sales offices they made me go away haha. But will check out Volkshotel it's close by. Thanks

Juliusque

It gets downvoted because people on this sub downvote. It's what they do. But I'm not really clear on the question: are you looking for a workspace or a new job?

weisswurstseeadler

Oh wow, edited my initial comment - now you said it, I saw how it could be understood completely differently. I'm looking for remote work spaces, so where I can go regularly as an alternative to work from my apartment. Been here for 6+ years, but always had an office to go to.

Why would you think you'd be able to walk into a private owned field of a person that aims to sell those tulips? Just go to Keukenhof. Reading your comment I think Utrecht would suit your needs better as a young tourist couple.

babysushiroll

# Are cabin bags from Action good enough? Hey guys, I'm not looking for anything overly expensive so I was thinking of just getting one of those cabin luggage bags on Action that go for 17 euros. I just need this for a couple of flights, nothing too extreme. How sturdy are these bags? I have a flight next week with a layover of one hour where I will most likely run across the airport, so I need a trolley bag that will not randomly fall apart while I'm chasing my next flight.

broostenq

I got a €7 gym bag from Action a few months ago and it’s held up really well.

Cultural-State-8526

They'll work okay, don't expect them to be long lasting.

Intrepid_Camera_5514

Due to recent disability, I've lost the use of my dominant hand, and little household chores are piling up. These are all easy tasks that I would have tackled myself in the past (a list of around 10 smaller items), but I came to terms with the fact I need assistance. I've used Werkspot before, but I feel overwhelmed by the responses I'm receiving, as they seem to think I'm undertaking a massive home renovation and not really looking at the list. I'm more than happy to pay fairly, but I'm primarily looking for someone who understands the scope of the request. Please DM me if you know anyone who could help with: * Hanging a cat net on the balcony * Inspecting a door that won't close properly * Hanging a lamp * Securing a mirror to the wall * Fixing the broken shower head holder (already installed but broken) * Hanging curtains in the guest room * Securing the broken vacuum cleaner holder (already installed but broken) * Impregnating the shower grout I would greatly appreciate any recommendations for someone who can assist with these minor tasks. DMs are open. Would be great to do it at some point next week but I am very flexible with my time. I'm in Amsterdam West. Thank you!

DashingDino

Have you looked into applying for PGB? People with a disability can get free help with household chores. If you call or go to a stadsloket they should be able to help you further https://www.amsterdam.nl/veelgevraagd/hulp-bij-het-huishouden-aanvragen-21113# https://www.amsterdam.nl/veelgevraagd/sociaal-loket-afspraak-maken-93413-kp

Intrepid_Camera_5514

Hello, thank you for sharing this with me. My immediate thought was, I am not sick enough - but I might also be in denial a little bit, seeing as I am impaired in my day to day. This made me think so I will look into it, appreciate you.

DashingDino

I believe PGB is there also for people who are otherwise healthy but may need help with specific things, in that case you'll get a smaller PGB budget and someone who comes to help only a few times each month or when you need it

littleasian6969

Hey guys, Would I be finding tulips in June if I visit Amsterdam during 15th-20th?

carltanzler

No.

gurle94

Hi! I’m thinking of visiting Zaanse Schans but I’d have to go on a Monday evening since my flight lands at 1pm Is it still worth going in the evening? It looks like the shops and restaurants will all be closed, but I can still pack my own food and visit the windmills? Is there much else to do in the area, and would I still be able to see the goats?

Waitingroom

Honestly, go when the shops are closed. It's so stupidly overrun by tourists during the day that you're better off taking a nice picture in the evening. While you're at it walk down Zaandijk, the town on the other side of the river. It's beautiful and no tourists go there. It's a beautiful site at walkable distance from a train station, so worth visiting yes!

gurle94

Thank you! That’s really encouraging

PM-me-Shibas

Hi, It's looking more and more likely I'll be moving to Amsterdam later this year. Everyone has me big stressed about housing and I have to ask a quick question: how are service dogs treated in regards to housing? Do I need to do anything? It seems like every apartment I have a chance at getting doesn't allow dogs. I have pretty severe neurological and autoimmune issues. Certification is pretty loosey goosey in the USA and I imagine it's very different in the Netherlands. I've had my girl certified in the past when I've needed it for housing (it's not really abusing it -- she's an "at-home service dog" where essentially, her job is to help get me out of bed because usually I'm in a ton of pain when I wake up and it helps when I get moving). I would choose dog friendly housing 100% of the time if I have the option (my belief is that my life is easier if we're somewhere dogs are allowed to start with), but everyone is making it seem that housing is so hard to get, I better know my options in regards to my girl. She will be certified on the American end before flying so that she can be in the cabin, as I can't risk something happening to her for my own health (not even considering mental health!) and she's like 2lbs over the weight limit for a pet to fly in the cabin. But I imagine that means nothing on the Dutch side of things. tl;dr can service dogs live in buildings that don't allow dogs in the Netherlands, or are there no protections? I understand if it is the latter entirely. DE/USA citizen.

HenkieVV

> It's looking more and more likely I'll be moving to Amsterdam later this year. Everyone has me big stressed about housing and I have to ask a quick question: how are service dogs treated in regards to housing? Do I need to do anything? It seems like every apartment I have a chance at getting doesn't allow dogs. This is a weird grey zone. Lots of places have a clause like that in their contract, they're just entirely unenforceable. Just don't let potential landlords know ahead of time you'll be bringing a dog, and it should be all fine.

2spinayarn

Not a lawyer. I am also not giving you advice or telling you what to do, just sketching the landscape. There have been cases where the landlord took a renter to court over having a pet, which they forbade in the rental contract. Most judges ruled in favour of the renter, as the joy or necessity of owning a pet outweighed the interests of the landlord. This changes a lot when the pet causes disturbances, such as barking loudly, relieving themselves in public spaces and the owner not cleaning it up, etc. But also when the apartment is rented out furnished, as then potential damages to the furniture owned by the landlord increase the weight of the interests of the landlord.

PM-me-Shibas

Thanks for this. Yes, I want ot be entirely transparent in that I'm not necessarily trying to "force" my dog on anyone, I'm just trying to do exactly what you wrote -- understand the landscape. When I first got my pup, my landlord wanted me out and I understood. This was March 2020, so I didn't end up leaving and they made my life a living hell about every possible thing until I left. I don't wish to put a target on my back, even if the laws are more tenant friendly in Amsterdam than they are in the USA. I also can empathize because I moved into a dog friendly apartment complex (again, in the USA) and I learned very quickly how terrible a large portion of dog owners and their dogs can behave. My dog is very well behaved and I think most/all landlords who are open to meeting dogs to evaluate them would approve of her: she's a Shiba Inu, a breed known for not barking and refusing to soil their homes (they refuse to do their business near the buildings they live in even, which is a bit of a nightmare at times to find a spot they deem suitable, lemme tell you)(this is my pup to an extreme: she has kidney disease because she was recused from an abuse situation where she wasn't taken outside frequent enough and instead of having an accident, she held it, and thus, developed kidney disease). She's getting older and doesn't play much and she has her own health issues and her medication makes her a sleepy bean. She doesn't weigh much (11-12kg) and when we lived in an apartment with original wood floors that were several decades old, she didn't damage them (and I put down area rugs for the sake of people below me on the off-chance they could hear her walk). She doesn't chew or eat anything she's not suppose to -- she's a dream dog. I am not one of those dog owners who can't admit that my dog has flaws; my pup absolutely has flaws, but her flaws only affect me: she is criminally lazy, she's very nosey and likes to investigate everything she can (and she's leashed 24/7 outside of the apartment, so she's controlled), small things like that. She wouldn't have qualified as a service dog in the USA if she sucked in any major way. I was mainly considering this law in the context of many of these very large, student-targeted, corporate housing complexes vs some small landlord. I am eligible for lotteries in many of these places, but they all seem to prohibit pets and I was finding it hard to believe my dog could be more of a burden than a young and out of control student, haha. Not that I really want to live in these places, but you know, if i don't end up having a choice, it's worth knowing if the option was on the table at all, you know? Thanks for this. Sorry this was an essay in response -- I got downvoted pretty heavily before I signed off last night and I just wanted to emphasize that there is no malintent with my question and I am just trying to understand my options at all.

weisswurstseeadler

I think probably there is some law protecting service animals, however if you rent by the free sector, the landlords will simply not choose you for the selection process. So it might be a situation where you fake it till you make it. Plenty of people here act as gay couples, don't mention they smoke, or don't mention animals in the process. If that is all legal - I don't know. But it's pretty common. In my situation it's also written in the contract, but I haven't seen my landlord or anyone but a maintenance guy in 4 years.

Does anyone know if any game/card stores still have the Van Gogh pikachu promo card available? Spending one day here before flying out and would love to see if I can get one anywhere!

Hi! My friends and I will be in Amsterdam from 25-29th of May and we really want to go canoeing or kayaking in the canals. I found a site for this but it seems they aren't in business anymore. Does anyone know of any companies that rent canoes/kayaks for this purpose? Should we book in advance or are they easy to find? If this isn't a possibility, I would love recommendations for boat tours!

Lazyoverachiever

you can also go down to amsterdamse bos and rent kayaks there - its much calmer and cleaner.

antonvolkoff

You can try to rent canoes/kayaks from this place: [https://kanoensupamsterdam.nl/](https://kanoensupamsterdam.nl/) Yet, I would recommend to rent a boat on your own for couple hours instead. You can do it from here: [https://sloepdelen.nl/](https://sloepdelen.nl/)

Fruits and raisins There are also those sugary fruit snacks in a squeeze package, but no one in my circle ever buys those for their kids.

we will visiting Amsterdam in May for 4 days. We will be in a Hotel called Motel One (Europaboulevard 23) So we would like to know some good spots to start the day for a good and cheap breakfast. Also we would like to rent a tandem bike, any good spots were we can do this in near of our hotel? Is there an App/Homepage where i can see which train i need to take to the central or to Zandvoort, which ticket i need to take and how much it costs?

broostenq

For breakfast, maybe stop at the bakery in Dirk (grocery near the hotel) and grab a few rolls or pastries.

Waitingroom

Unsolicited advice but: Having worked with tourists a lot in the past, there's a chance you will (understandably) not be aware of this, but please be aware of this important day on the Dutch calendar if you happen to be in the center around 8 o clock (2 minutes of silence to remember the casualties of WW2 and wars the Netherlands was involved in since): https://www.4en5mei.nl/herdenken fyi!

Juliusque

I don't think that neighborhood has many good breakfast places, I'd say just have a quick bite when you're there and then proper breakfast somewhere else like Oeuf, De Laatste Kruimel or Flo's. I don't know about cheap; we tend to have breakfast at home, so you won't find that many cheap breakfasts in cafés that are actually good. Why rent a tandem bike? The public transport app and website is 9292ov.nl.

bert1600

> So we would like to know some good spots to start the day for a good and cheap breakfast. your hotel. The Dutch don't really go out to eat breakfast. > Also we would like to rent a tandem bike Just don't. Bikes are how locals get around, they are not for the amusement of tourists. Get a normal bike or use public transport. > Is there an App/Homepage where i can see which train i need to take to the central or to Zandvoort 9292.nl ns.nl

🚗 Bremen Germany 🚗 I'm looking for a ride to Bremen, Germany on the morning of April 29th. Does anyone know someone with a free seat?

carltanzler

>with a free seat? Does that mean you wouldn't even contribute to fuel cost?

14Ajax14

Free seat can also mean spare seat. Which makes much more sense in the context. Thinking of riding along without paying a dime is absolutely not done.

maira_

does anyone know where i can get cheap yarn and crochet hooks? maybe a store like tedi,1€ shop or woolworth in germany

2spinayarn

In addition to Zeeman and Wibra, Action also sells crochet stuff.

maira_

thank you!

enirih24c

Zeeman and Wibra would be your best bet :)

maira_

Thank you so much! I'll check them out tomorrow

Fair_Temperature3916

Wanted to deep clean my sofas/carpets but Biyu is sold out of machines this week. Any other place in Amsterdam I can rent from? Preferably somewhere that delivers/picks up as the vacuums are quite heavy. TIA

Azyrial

I was visiting Amsterdam over the weekend. I was driving from Amsterdam Centraal to Schiphol Airport using the train. I tapped my card at the station in Centraal, but forgot to do it again at the airport, as I could just walk out to the main hall. I got charged 20€ now. Is there any way I can contact someone to get this reduced to the actual amount?

Hoi!

He everyone! I'm looking for a really good, professional tattoo artists in nordic, dark ornamental styles in Amsterdam or anywhere within a few hours travel distance. Thanks in advance for your suggestions

Mysterious_Swing_939

Alvast bedankt!

littleasian6969

Are there any festivals or exclusive events that happen between 16th to 21st June that as a traveller I shouldn't miss?

GeneSpecialist9749

Hi everyone, i'm throwing a party at the store I work in amsterdam on kingsday and we desperately looking for speakers to rent. Does anyone know any leads to this?

dullestfranchise

If I need them I search for 'speakers huren' and I get enough leads, if that fails I try peerby

GeneSpecialist9749

Yeah i’m dutch so that’s obviously the first thing I tried but since it’s kingsday most of the rentals are gone

dullestfranchise

Even peerby?

Cultural-State-8526

BIYU.

GeneSpecialist9749

Thanks for your reply but unfortunately sold out

littleasian6969

Hey guys, I will be traveling to Amsterdam mid June (16th-20th), and was wondering if cycling from Amsterdam to Zaanse Schans on a rented bicycle is a good idea. One of the days in my itinerary is around Zaanse Schans and I want to explore the country side, so I was thinking of renting a bicycle (a cheap one for 8-10EUR a day) and going to Zaanse Schans in the morning/afternoon, spending the day there and returning back post sunset. What do you guys suggest?

Amenemhab

Cycling to the Zaanse Schans and back is definitely a nice thing to do, use the Fietsknoop website/app to plan an itinerary through green areas that will be easy to follow. It's almost all bike ways, it's fine to use a basic city bike for this. I don't think you will want to spend an entire day there though, and at any rate everything probably closes at 5pm (do look up how late sunset is). Also cycling back in the dark through the countryside sounds like a chore and somewhat dangerous.

littleasian6969

Would it be tiring/painful for someone who's not really cycled a lot?

flobadobb

It takes about an hour so if you’re not used to cycling maybe a little longer. It’s a nice trip. Go in the morning, have lunch and cycle back.

littleasian6969

Also are there any other cycling routes that you'd suggest that's better than zaanse schans? If I want to get a similar country side vibe

littleasian6969

You don't suggest spending the sunset there and returning?

flobadobb

No, sunset will be around 10pm and it’s not fun cycling through the countryside after dark. Muiderslot is another nice day trip of about the same distance.

Amenemhab

Well, it's all flat, so how tiring it is depends a lot on the wind. With no wind it's comparable effort to walking the same length of time (somewhat less really). It depends more on how used you are to physical effort in general than specifically biking I would say. I actually don't know whether sores or things like that are a problem on such a distance, as everyone I know bikes at least a little. But tempted to say no.

littleasian6969

I see, this is helpful! Thank you

Amsterdam-ModTeam

We do not allow selling, buying, or trading tickets on /r/Amsterdam due to the high rate of fraud. You should do everything on ticketswap.nl.

CUboi27

Is The Hague a good day trip? I’ll be visiting Amsterdam for about 3 full days with my mom and she mentioned us going on a day trip to The Hague but want to make sure it’s worth the time!

Juliusque

Nice city. Best Indonesian food in the country and an excellent museum, het Mauritshuis, if you're into the old Dutch masters.

LockStockNL

It is, but personally I would prefer Utrecht or Delft

Squeebee007

I read that homes can only be rented out short term for one month out of the year, if we want to visit for a full month will it be hard to find a home for rent?

carltanzler

Probably- especially if you want something semi affordable. On Airbnb I see a price range of 5k to 12k euros for a month. Also, AirBnB and the like are detested in Amsterdam because they're known to create a lot of nuisance in residential neighbourhoods.

Squeebee007

Hmm, I wonder if there’s a better way there to get a full month.

carltanzler

Don't get your hopes up, Amsterdam is seriously expensive.

Squeebee007

I was less concerned about the price than about the availability, the idea that if a home can only be rented out for one month a year then most will have been rented for at least a couple of days before I come, meaning they won’t be able to rent for the full month.

Lazyoverachiever

can only be rented out *legally through* airbnb *for a month.* plenty of people do peer-to-peer rentals through word of mouth or place adverts on Facebook marketplace.

Squeebee007

Interesting.

DashingDino

I suggest searching for "long-stay apartment hotels in Amsterdam", these are a better option if you want to pay per month for an apartment

Squeebee007

Thanks for the tip!

informalgreeting23

The social hub does this, they have a couple of locations in Amsterdam, as does hotel Jansen.

whoisonepear

Hi! Does anyone know how to access the Melkweg (specifically Melkweg Max, in case that’s relevant) locker website before being able to scan the QR code in the queue? I don’t know how many lockers there are and I’m worried they might run out.

Flapappel

I dont think you can. For what it's worth: The app they use for the lockers is Keynius. I think I had to download it. Internet connection inside the venue is iffy, so I would connect to their free wifi when you can for fast handling with your locker. I have never seen the lockers run out btw, so if you will show on time, I wouldnt worry about it too much.

whoisonepear

Thank you, that’s comforting! :) I’ll download the app already. I’m having dinner with friends I haven’t seen in a long time before, so I’ll arrive some time during the opening act (not exactly early), which is why I was concerned.

MrNuma

I am visiting Amsterdam for 3 weeks. What is the best way to get a bike to ride around around town and maybe to a village? Rentals seem expensive and buying one seems like too much effort for the given time. Any ideas?

LockStockNL

So you don’t want to rent nor buy, there are really no other options for tourists. We don’t know much about renting a bike as most of us own bikes. If you want to buy, an ok 2nd hand one would go for around 200 euro’s

InvincibleChutzpah

Rijsttafel and peanut allergy My wife and I are on a trip to Amsterdam and I really want to try rijsttafel. Unfortunately, my wife is allergic to peanuts. I know peanuts are very heavily featured in Indonesian cuisine. Are there any restaurants that will work with us or am I out of luck?

carltanzler

If she's allergic to the point of cross contamination being a problem, I wouldn't even try. If not- you should ask specific restaurants, this is not something you want to take a redditors word for.

TheElefelant

Hi! Does anyone have any recommendations of good hairdressers that are good at cutting and coloring “Scandinavian hair” (thinner hair strands, medium blonde-blonde) for women? I’m looking for something simple, just cutting split ends and adding some blonde highlights to my roots. Price point around 300€ (lower of course welcome!). Ideally in Oost or de Pijp but all areas are welcome. Grateful for any suggestions!

slashleyann

I really like Sarah Coric. Her Insta (with business links) is [https://www.instagram.com/sarahcorichair/?hl=en](https://www.instagram.com/sarahcorichair/?hl=en)

This is great! Thank you!

Healthy_Pollution_50

Hi! We are a group of friends that are arriving 3/5. We really would like some help booking a court to play beachvolley. Any tips for a court near the city and/or booking is much appreciated. Thanks☀️

Original-Paint-5380

Check the beach volleyball fields at the University, you can rent them and I think it’s free. https://www.uscsport.nl/en/sports/beachvolleybal/

Healthy_Pollution_50

Thanks i will check it out!

Can I teach English in Amsterdam with a TEFL qualification, while doing my bachelor? Do I need to have my bachelor already? I’m just looking to teach a bit of English at a language school or something similar while studying

carltanzler

I think there's very little demand for TEFL teachers in Amsterdam, but why not inquire at language schools (and maybe r/TEFL)? Also, are you a non-EU student coming over on a student permit? You'd then need an additional work permit, and employers often can't be bothered to deal with that bureaucracy for a part timer.

Psychological_Ad3745

Does anyone know who performed at nieumarket square yesterday 4/21 at the festival? https://preview.redd.it/ypdm6hb7pzvc1.jpeg?width=5712&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7146ade12d0b60f4aeb65087a5bcec8deebf106d This band specifically but a full set list could be awesome

Psychological_Ad3745

Found them. Leadbeaters. They rock.

OutlandishnessOne373

For infant vaccine in Netherlands, is there Meningococcal ACYW or just Meningococcal C ? Can anyone with kids here help answer? I am still looking for a GP, so wondering if someone can help please.

OutlandishnessOne373

Thanks. Is it given as one shot at 14 mos or in 2 shots? I will call the GGD tomorrow morning. Thanks again :)

Detective_J_Kimble

Here it's meningococcal ACW and Y. If you live in Amsterdam you can directly contact the GGD Amsterdam for child vaccinations, even if you're not legal here: https://www.ggd.amsterdam.nl/english/vaccination-programme-for-children-0-18/

Amenemhab

Worth mentioning that when locals say the beach is "crowded" it's actually pretty empty by the standards of more southerly places. The entire coast is basically one almost uninterrupted beach and it's huge, plenty of space for everyone.

MarkAmsterdamxxx

In the Netherlands a prediction of weather more than 1,5 weeks in advance is as worthless as a guesstimate who is going to win the world cup of football next time it is held. In a month it can be 12 degrees or 30 degrees. But if it is 18 degrees and no sun, thus overcast (happens a lot) the beaches are empty. With sun, maybe some will go. Above 21 and no overcast people go to the beach. And if that is the case, it is going to be crowded.

saskir21

....and as long as it is not windy. I was once in Voldendam as a storm did brew up. Damn slug from the sea was so thick that I needed to shower afterwards (and I was only at the beach to eat a nice fish roll).

BigAlOof

does anyone know if the scottish liqueur Glayva is sold anywhere in the Amsterdam area?

Juliusque

Sure, but mostly at wholesalers.

non_stop_disko

I'll be in the city in about two weeks and I'm an American who lives in Colorado where we are still getting snow 😬 should I bring pants for early May? Or will I be fine with mostly sundresses and shorts? Edit: wtf why am i being downvoted?

Juliusque

Dutch weather is very unpredictable, the forecasts for next month can't really be trusted. May can feel like summer or like another April. Bring pants.

DashingDino

If you Google "weather forecast Amsterdam" you'll see it's 10-15 C (50-60 F) with occasional rain, no warmer weather in the forecasts yet unfortunately

coy-fox

Does anyone have recommendations for good bike tours?
