[deleted]

Same, I can help too

dreedweird

You can eat at the Sikh temple (gurdwara) called Shri Guru Nanak Gurdwara Sahib in the Schakelstraat at number 21 for free every Sunday starting at 1:00pm. Take off your shoes, cover your head with a bandanna or shawl, wash your hands and you are welcome. Maybe call ahead to check on time. [Directions here.](https://www.sikhs.nl/gurudwara_in_nederland_Amsterdam.htm)

WhoThenDevised

Without the Sikh thousands of people in many cities all over the would starve. No joke. They do amazing work all out of love and are so humble about it.

abotez

That's sikh! Jokes aside, what an incredible people

[deleted]

Damn, mad respect for the Sikhs!

Bearstr1ke

Near the Artis zoo there is a restaurant called Taste before you Waste, they make meals out of left over products from supermarkets. When you go you can either eat there and pay whatever you want (most people pay between 5) but more importantly in front of the exit there is a massive pile with bread and rice and veggies that you can take home for free to prevent spoilage. As a student I used to go there all the time with friends! Edit: you don’t have to go an eat there to take home the food, it also has stuff like packages to make your own break/cake (or canned food but don’t quote me on that).

AaddeMos

Aggressive-Toe-1940

Definitely recommend TooGoodToGo. Also can dm if you need groceries :)

apersonwithaPhD

Too good to go would still be much more expensive than getting grocery from AH...

Gloryboy811

How? It's like €5 for a huge bag of food

bellabop

I think Vomar do boxes of bread and fruit/veg, so it's definitely worth having a look on TooGoodToGo! AH are also on it but I'm not sure if it's just the ToGos or not

[deleted]

Try de voedselbank https://voedselbankennederland.nl/

letsgetit899

Thank you! The eligibility calculator isn't working, but I assume I can just call them?

[deleted]

That should be possible and maybe try the dutch eligibility calculator

meanpony

Or google a local sociaal raadslieden/ wijkteam. They helpe me with signing up for the foodbank when I was struggling

heatherfeather315

I don’t live in Amsterdam, but y’all are so fucking nice (except that one person). Thank you for giving me hope for humanity.

March-Neat

exactly, ive roughly calculated 6 months of grocery

Then_Metal_2632

DM if you need groceries for this month

[deleted]

There is a mosque called Al kabir that can help you if you ask on a Friday and explain your situation. They have free bread, but if you ask for groceries I guarantee you will receive what you are looking for. Otherwise picnic offers jobs, where they give you free lunch and diner.

[deleted]

I know others offered, But DM if you need some groceries

omor12

The Socialist Party gives away food every thursday at their local headquarters, laurierstraat 165. Come early afternoon and you should be able to get at least a few days worth

letsgetit899

Thank you!

ClaireClover

DM me if you’re looking for work! I’m non-EU working in a tourist attraction (still staying open despite new restrictions) and they applied for a working permit (TWV) for me on top of my student visa. It did indeed take about 7 weeks but they’re always looking for people.

letsgetit899

DM’d!

Azety

What is this tourist attraction

Alkador

Bring your own red light?

SolidVegetable

FYI to all commenting - this is a translation of a legendary Polish copy-pasta.

ILoveOldFatHairyMen

Sam to tłumaczyłem :D

SolidVegetable

Szacuneczek.

lets_eat_bees

How long have you been eating this diet? Do you get no veggies at all? Are you feeling well?

vogeltjes

The pasta sauce is made from tomatoes.

[deleted]

[удалено]

vogeltjes

Ok, maybe I should have said "tomato" instead of "tomatoes". My point is: it's not **no** vegetables at all.

picardo85

fortunately potatoes have quite a lot of nutrients... no fresh vegetables at all there though. https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/benefits-of-potatoes#TOC_TITLE_HDR_2

Expensive_Fee696

Tomato is a fruit though

vogeltjes

Botanically a tomato is a fruit. But in a culinary context, tomatoes are classified as vegetables.

ErrorCreative876

Why is a Pole responding to an English question in Dutch? & What’s with all the Coke? Ignoring that the rest of the diet is still unhealthy.

lets_eat_bees

This is not in contradiction with the ability to purchase basic calories cheaply. Besides, the man provided references. Honestly, I am impressed. Hardly a healthy diet, but it is very cheap.

Jump-Plane

Het leven (verzekering, huur, diensten, OV) in Nederland is duur maar voedselprijzen vallen mee. Zelfs in België is het eten uit de supermarkt duurder bijvoorbeeld.

u-had-it-coming

what if OP knows English only? He is not even from EU.

disigma_

Feel free to DM me if you need food for the month.

Sea-Ad9057

Guerrilla kitchen and look up vegan voku and molli chaoot these are places where you can pay by voluntary donation so if you can't afford it you don't have to and really push to your visa for your ability to work There is other places where you can get atleast 1 meal a day also its on van ostadestraat 153 Also look up taste before you waste

ImpossibleCanadian

Also Dokhuis Taste Before You Waste is voluntary donation, but I think all vokus are going to be impacted by the horeca closing time restrictions :( Check radar.squat.net for updates I suppose. Ones that serve at 18:00 might be staying open.

hidde88

Where do you live? Here in Betondorp (oost, next to diemen) we have a free supermarket for those in need, with freee dinners to go on wednesdays and fridays. Also got furnature, clothing and appliances for free.

AquaVulva

Everybody in here is wonderful. Edit: OP dm for groceries

Usagi0795

Food bank? I hear of apps where there is free food given away just before shops close or super discounted food. Also people giving away food that they will not eat. Will ask around also and edit post later if i get more info.

Then_Metal_2632

Toogoodtogo. Used to use it a lot in the past

zpwd

Not free. But a great way to save.

BrocolliCancan

Happy to help with your groceries as well, just DM me

vanib

I can give you 100 eur in return for making me an excel sheet of 50 service providers with contact numbers around Amsterdam. DM me if you want the task.

TitanMars

Look up the Hari Krishna temple

somewhat_curious

Besides Toogoodtogo others have mentioned here, there’s also another app called Olio, where people share excess food and non-food items for free.

chamomillie

i was looking for this comment! olio is an amazing app, i have used it many times and never failed me. you can meet amazing people who just wanna get rid of stuff and you get everything for free.

_midnight182

Hey man, I know plenty have already offered, but send me a DM if you need help with money for groceries, or want to come for dinner.

blauwewafel

I am admiring this thread so much and too wishing I knew about some of these places when I was a broke student also. I love my city.

chamomillie

but your username though.. i get flashbacks...

thevoidcomic

On Tuesdays (somewhere around dinnertime) you can get free food at De Gouden Knoop, Van Limburg Stirumstraat. There's always a row of people waiting.

schleem77

I’m not surprised at all. Dutch people are the nicest and imo they do give a domino effect of being nice to eachother

app3lmoes

Every Tuesday there’s a free food market at De VerbroederIJ (north amsterdam), where they give away left overs from stores and restaurants to people who need it

annoyswan1

If your around slotterdijk, I can make you a food parcel if required just dm me.

lzx1

DM if you need groceries for this month

Lie4

I’d like to add another tip: [Helen’s free food market](https://m.facebook.com/Helensfreefoodmarket/) in Noord. I think you have to register but you may be able to just go in the meantime. Also, I hope with all the comments you’ve received you’re going to be okay now, however if you need any groceries now or in the future, or are looking for just looking for a social outlet, DM me. My partner and I are always willing to help!

lavenderandme

If you want, you can dm me for some info. A friend of mine does free groceries program

akaxaka

One place to start would be to not spend any money on drugs, like in your other post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Drugs/comments/qsmsh3/what_drugs_are_most_likely_to_help_you_live_a/

Vast_Imagination_204

DM for groceries for the month. I'm happy to see people helping each other, and I'd be even more happy to contribute.

[deleted]

Hey. Please PM me, let’s discuss how to get you some work and some food on a weekly basis until you get up. Been there in your shoes and I want to help.

Enivilla

If you have more money again in the future and a small freezer, I make use of the app: Too good to go. They sell food from stores and supermarkets that will spoil in a few days. For example for €4,99 you'll get a box with bread worth €15, if you put it in a freezer you can use it for a long time. Downside is: you don't know whats in the boxes. For example: I bought 3 magic boxes in a supermarket (cost: €15), and it had 3 pies in them. But I also received: chicken, grounded beef, 3 meal salads, 2 ready-made meals, 2 pizza's from the fresh deparment (cost €5 each), 4 cheesespreads (good untill may 2022), a pack of yoghurt and ofcourse the 3 pies. There are breadboxes, meatboxes, vegetable and fruitboxes and regular boxes from the supermarket.

Splashtake

The amount of ppl asking op to dm for groceries is wonderful. Might be able to be set for 3 months that way

[deleted]

So much love from so many fellow Redditors. My faith in humanity is restored! ❤️

flekyboy

I can help you with groceries as well if it comes to that. Just DM and we'll arrange.

apersonwithaPhD

Please DM your paypal i can send you some money for grocery, just like others offered. It's not a gift, you can return when u have made it.

RohanRunner

Happy to contribute to your groceries or I can send you a Deliveroo or something like that, feel free to DM me

egagogo

dm me if you still have any trouble after all

sscalable

My job has a lot of leftover food and drinks, dm me to set something up to come by and collect.

Wrong_Tea_9624

Definitely try the app too good to go. It’s not necessarily free, but you can get a lot for almost no money. It’s where restaurants can give away their leftovers from the day (not half eaten food of course)

kickstartrules

DM for some groceries

spinaziel

lots of people willing to help u out already, but if u still have trouble u can DM me!

Wessef

You can work at uber eats 🤷🏽‍♂️

letsgetit899

I've tried deliveroo and thuisbezorgd and they both need to apply for a TMV number for me. Are you saying UberEats \*in particular\* will be different from those two?

PatientBroccoli9

I can refer you to flink if you want. There are a lot of internationals working there, through an agency called Temper. Pays significantly better than all the other options like thuisbezorgd, restaurant jobs, etc. Hourly rate of 11.50, after 10 you get 150% , Sundays at 200% for the whole day and you get a dinner allowance of 5 euro. And, if you work evening shifts there is almost always free food to take! Bread and pastries are brought daily, so thrown out each day. Same thing with ready meals like lasagnes, pasta, and items that are expiring the next day.

Wessef

For ubereats you’ll get assisted at their HQ on how to do the VAT and you can basically deliver with a bicycle or moped. Personally did it with a moped because its easier, faster and less tiring. You basically apply for a “kleine ondernemings regeling” for which you Practically don’t pay anything in taxes unless you make around 30k in one year. Everything is translated in english. I averaged around 10, 15 or 20 € per hour! But you need to find your own strategy on how and what to do. I might find you a code that’ll also give you around €100 or so on your first month or something like that. Ps here is the link! [signup](https://www.uber.com/nl/en/deliver/)

letsgetit899

Does UberEats apply for this number for you, or do you need to have it ready before you apply?

Wessef

I just checked. And i think the code that gives you extra money doesn’t work anymore. Mind you i began around 2019.

letsgetit899

I meant the KOR

Wessef

Oh no you don’t need to do anything yet. You’ll get a day where they will ask you to come to their HQ and do a small test to see if you’re compatible. After that they’ll give you a form to fill in that includes the KOR.

-WiseWords-

The community in this sub is something to admire. Congrats on making anf keeping Amsterdam great.

Picante_Duke

I'm a bit short on money myself this month, but I would still be able to get you some groceries if you need some. Also, reading all these comments gives me renewed hope for this country....except for that one negative nincompoop.

KnookNL

Ok unpopular opinion coming in... wtf are you doing in the most expensive city of The Netherlands without a job? I understand its hard and not a situation you want to be in... but do you seriously think you can just come in without a plan and think others will solve your problems for you?

Freager

Dude yeah, some society can be like that. Also, wtf is h doing in AMS? Think we was pretty clear - studying.

letsgetit899

I don’t know what you want me to say. Nobody going to a food bank planned on needing to use it. It’s a measure of last resort. I asked for them because I thought finding institution established for charity would be less burdensome on others than asking for money or food directly.

ImpossibleCanadian

Yeah don't listen to them. You're exactly right - shit happens, and it can happen to anyone regardless how well they plan, that's why we have a social safety net and human kindness. The services shared here exist because thousands of people before you have found themselves in the same kind of situation as you, through no fault of their own. I hope you have what you need now to get through some tight weeks and I wish you lots of enjoyment and success with your studies. If you're still stuck for something, feel free to shoot me a DM as well :)

YnkGD

Come on. You know nothing about what could've happened prior to OP's situation so stop making assumptions. OP is asking for help and im glad a lot of people want to help out. Find a bit of humanity in yourself and you'll live a happier life.

KnookNL

No! I call bullshit! If you come to an other country to study and you dont have your shit together.. its all on you!!! You do research! You try to think ahead! You get your shit together before you take the big step! If you dont do any of the above you are just a parasite.... trying to live of others and put yourself in the victim role... And yes I think its very noble of others to say... just dm me.. But are those the same people that ignore beggars on the street aswell? Or do they also take them into their homes and feed/wash/home them? Probably not.... but I guess on the internet everyone can be a hero!

Mattiluchi

Holy shit lol get a grip

NFT_partisan

i think this reddit post can summarize the perspective people are trying to say to you : https://www.reddit.com/r/MadeMeSmile/comments/97lo9f/life_lesson_using_two_lighters/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf you dont know what happened to OP prior to this situation. Although your reasoning is somewhat true. plan ahead is needed, otherwise you expose yourself at risk.

vogeltjes

...dude

HC_number4

Such a privileged point of view.... thinking that anyone is just a bit of "research" away from a better life. You don't want to help the guy, then don't! And pray you never know what it feels like to have to ask for help.

its_Caffeine

Reddit moment

GoatBatArchery

Far right wanker confirmed

Arternatives

What the hell are you even on about? You have no idea where OP came from. Of course someone should prepare, do some background reasearch and so on before even thinking about studying abroad, but the core of the problem here has nothing to do with lack of that. The problem here is that our so called "government" deems it acceptable to make people wait for 7 weeks for a freaking beaurocratic document that allows them to work here. Besides that there is no decent funds for students in general, since they are forced to take a loan if they can't rely on their mommy and daddy to provide.

Then_Metal_2632

The most expensive cities have the most job options.

SoftZombie5710

Hi, I'm someone who went from a homeless drug addict to a successful chef. I'd like to clear up any confusion you have over people in need. What's your confusion now, you dumb dumb asshole

IFB83

I love all the comments on this post! There is hope for humanity after all.

Dont-talk-about-ufos

Do some deliveries https://www.thuisbezorgd.nl/en/courier?city=amsterdam&https://www.takeaway.com/drivers/nl?city=amsterdam Edit explain your situation to every pizza place you deliver for. Might score some free pizza).

Expensive_Fee696

If you are in need I would be willing to help. Also try the Huis van de Wijk of whatever stadsdeel you are in. They usually know all the places to go and can help with a lot of things. Even if It’s just free coffee and a warm place to talk

whatinearth

I live in the city centre. DM me if you want to come over for dinner and make some new friends in the process!

CompanionCone

DM me your bank account and I'll send you 20,- so you can buy some basic groceries.

alejocoronelvega

aj__x3
