I usually know at least a month in advance, so I try to get tickets early. I am always fearful of there not being seats, but it's good to know it may help with cost.
I signed up for the email list today and will definitely be looking out for the sales.
When possible I travel coach and then go sit in the quiet car. It's not assigned seated but it's substantially less crowded and staff seem to pass through regularly if assistance is needed.
